I tried this vet because of the Yelp reviews, however I was very disappointed. They muzzled my dog to do the exam, and he was terrified. (I've been searching for a vet, and have tried a couple different ones and this is the only place that felt the need to do this). The doctor was also very awkward and not friendly. The lady that was working the front desk and one of the other vet techs are way too rough to be in this type of an environment. They are not caring or gentle and handled my dog way too aggressively. They really are in the wrong line of work. Then, there is Dr. Magnusson, who is fantastic. He is warm and compassionate and intelligent--so great at explaining things to his clients. Dr. Greg & his staff have earned & deserve many appreciations for all of the professional and completely compassionate levels of service provided to me, as well as my dog Harley. Unfortunately, this was not a visit to the vet that I ever wanted nor ever want to repeat. Despite knowing what I had to do, in order to help Mother Nature along & avoid Harley suffering tremendously one hour more, I was able to make this decision with the professional and personal levels of care that Leo's Pet Care offers. Truth be told, after speaking in great lengths with one of the staff members, I NEVER anticipated someone actually walking to my car, given I am handicapped, in order to get Harley inside. I NEVER once expected to be greeted at the door with basically "open arms" knowing what would be happening. In a nutshell, I was treated like a well-known friend of 20 years or a family member; not once was I treated as "just another customer". Furthermore, it is apparent & evident that Dr. Greg & his staff are knowledgeable, competent, caring, loving, and willing to be there for the good times and the bad times. Of course this is a business yet that was not as important as the way we are treated. The rates are competitive however the level of care you receive is PRICELESS. The least I can do is spread the GOOD WORD about a practice that truly cares vs. being "another file number". I guarantee you will have a truly personalized experience with people that are there because they love their job, love their patients, and love the "parents" of the patients!!! My beloved bullmastiff, Buddha, was a patient of Dr. M's. She has been gone for a year now. I just never got around to writing the review. He was absolutely amazing. As soon as we got her, we made an appointment with him. I worked for a vet for three years before moving here, so I was extremely picky when it came to who was going to take care of my baby. As soon as he walked in, he put me at ease. He answered all of my questions, was gentle with Buddha and gave her time to warm up. He didn't rush her just to get done and move on to the next appointment. I felt like I and she mattered. At one point, she had a small rash on her belly. It was after hours so I couldn't call. I tweeted Dr. M and almost immediately, he replied and asked me to post a pic. He made an appointment for her for the next day and told me what to do to make it not so irritated until we could get in. She was never socialized with other dogs, so that made it a little difficult to take her to the vet. Every single time she had an appointment, he would have his staff on the phone with me in the parking lot to make sure it was vacant so that it was a pleasant experience for all involved. When I get another dog, Dr. M will be my first call. read more

First I want to say I had extremely high expectations for coming to this place with it being the #1 recommended on the Indy-A-List. First impression with the vet staff showed to be good but it all changed with Dr. Magnusson. During the entire appointment I was not able to see any compassion or empathy in his character(empathy can be given in a bold manor, I understand that). Initially he seemed to be very thorough and informative which is what I was looking for with this being the 4th vet I have been to for an answer. The only thing I will give him credit for is referring us to an incredible surgeon and nothing other than that. We were only referred because he gave us 2 options, either have them do X-rays (and still not make a determination of what should be done), or get referred to a surgeon. None of his advise was accurate or honest. I do not appreciate him telling me my dog who is 2.5 years old would have a lame leg for the rest of his life and that no surgeon would want to operate on him due to both his age and that his leg had been bothering him for 4 months (not on purpose I was shipped out of state for work) this was the 4th vet visited and surprisingly Banfield was the most accurate in their advise and conclusion but they recommended a surgeon who wasn't certified and never took x-rays. The first vet said nothing was wrong, the second vet said it was his acl(banfield), the 3rd vet said it was just a minor sprain and it would get better without any extra attention other than rimadyl for inflammation). He never answered my moms question when she asked if he had any suggestions of what we could do to him him being an active dog (red healer) just walked out of the room and never even showed appreciation for us coming there, with it being our first visit. His character and personality were not compassionate not to mention I met with the surgeon yesterday morning with Rosko and never once did he question his age or the length of time the problem in his knee had been going on. He never raised a flag on any part of my pups situation and treated him like his own. Surgery was performed and completed yesterday and all went great. I am so thankful I did not listen to Dr. Magnussons advice, because if I would have, Rosko would not have had surgery and be expected to make a 95% recovery (which to a dog is 100%). Needless to say, I will not return nor will I refer anyone to this clinic to have their animal treated. This review is not in anger or frustration, it is to say that my 2.5 year old dog would have stayed on Rimadyl and had a limp leg his entire life if I would not have stated I would like to be referred to a surgeon (someone who calls the shots). My guess is that patients with situations that cannot be solved at his clinic, he treats differently than those that can be. I am not one to get upset over bold truth spoken, but when I find out that what was spoken wasn't honest, that brings a little uneasiness. read more

Leo's is great. We did not have a vet since taking in two adult cats 6 months ago and recently had a pet emergency with one of the cats. I checked out Yelp reviews and other sources and balanced the reviews with proximity to my home (the cat does not like to be in the car) and Leo's came out on top. I called and easily made an appointment for the next morning, printed paperwork from their website and completed it at home to save in-office time and was treated warmly (both my pet and I) by the staff. Both the tech and the vet were great - listened to the problem and provided a thoughtful and budget-friendly solution. Our cat is now on the mend. Dr. Magnusson is wonderful. He really listens to what is going on with your pet, asks a lot of questions to get to the bottom of the problem, and thoroughly explains his diagnosis and how to treat the problem. On top of that, you leave feeling like he truly cares about the health of your dog and is not trying to just get as much money as he can out of you. Both times I have visited his office he has discussed with me the best treatment for my dog at the best price. Once again I am so pleased with this vet. I arrived and was actually a few minutes late due to crazy traffic on Keystone (imagine that). It was no problem for them and once again made me feel like they were so excited to see my kitties! The lady who took me back and initialized everything even said she was disappointed she wasn't there for their initial exam 3 weeks ago. She even knew the exact day (Wed) that we came in. She was off that day and knew that we came in when she wasn't there. I mean...Wow! I wish I could remember her name (I'm terrible with names). My kitties had a harder time this go around, and one of them even scratched her. I feel so bad for her, but she said "whenever a kitten is faster at scratching me than I am at administering the shot, then touché!" Dr. M was once again so comforting! He really explains everything and asks about any concerns. He truly makes me feel like my kitties matter and I matter. He is so thorough and you can tell he just genuinely cares. I have 3 English bulldogs which are a breed that not all vets are capable of helping. I had already gone through 2 vets when I found Leo several years ago and I believe we have found our LAST vet. He is so straight forward with his diagnoses and his assistants are the best. I also greatly appreciate understanding what is going to be done with my dogs and what the costs are up front. Leo's Pet Care is pretty much as great as it gets in regards to knowledge, warmth, compassion, and friendliness. On all counts regarding my usual negatives for places like veterinarians (ie: feeling pressured to do things I would rather not, feeling put down for not understanding the technical terms, not being able to get an appointment in an appropriate time frame...etc.), they exceed my expectations and have never once caused any negative experience, all the way from making the appointment through check out. Dr. M is also a highlight, as he states things plainly and is funny to boot. My only reservation in giving them a 5 star is the price...they have some deals, but generic care will run you over $100 every visit and is usually closer to $200. If only they had "doggy" insurance... Other than that, if you love your pet, you'll take them here. Everything you'd want and more. read more

We started off with Leo's Pet Care because we explained that our Dog Jasper has massive allergies and needed to be on Prednisone for the rest of his life. We found this out from previous vet's and had allergy testing done and everything. They in the past had always called in his prescription without seeing him or at the least scheduling an appointment and they would call it in but however this time they refused to stating it was a "policy" issue. I'm frustrated because we explained that when he has a flare up he needs to have it so now we are going to have to find a new vet and start all over because of a "policy" issue. Absolutely ridiculous and now my poor pup has to wait to get medicine because they care more about "policy" instead of the animal's well-being. read more

I absolutely loved my first experience bringing my first baby to Leos Pet Care! Everyone was extremely nice and helpful. As anyone knows that when you have a doctors appointment there is a good chance the doctor is running behind, especially towards the end of the day... but I have never once had a doctor apologize as genuinely as Dr. Magnusson about running a LITTLE behind, it was not even that bad!!! As a first time mom to my puppy child I am a paranoid worrier and had a ton of questions. I've been to 2 other vet offices here in Indy. The first was for a friendly stray cat that I took in to have checked out. The place wasn't very thorough and the vet seemed to be in a rush (didn't check for stomach worms at all until I said shouldn't we do that?! Sure enough, he had them...and was then treated for them). The second place was for an emergency visit, and I actually had a really good experience there. However, when it came time to find a regular vet for my dog and cat, I couldn't ignore the online reviews praising Leo's (and I am glad I didn't). Leo's pet care has an awesome staff, Dr. M will stay in the room during your appointment and is happy to answer any and every question you can think of (if fact, he almost seemed disappointed when I only had 2-3 questions). You can tell Dr. M and staff really enjoy what they do. Each staff member I encountered must have told me at least twice to just email, call, or send Dr. M a twitter message if I have any questions going forward. Talk about accessible! I had a question about a spot on my dogs eye (which was nothing) and Dr. M even said if such a quick question arises in the future, don't worry about making an appt., just send him a photo via twitter and he'll let me know if an appt. is necessary. AWESOME! Not only is that comforting, but it saves paying for a visit to the vet when it really isn't necessary. The lifetime vaccination plan is a great deal, as well (check their website for info.) and prices across the board are very reasonable, especially for such individual, accessible and personal care. They also send out a wallet card and key chain sized card with your pets records on it for boarding and grooming convenience, and appointment reminders are mailed in the form of a postcard with a photo of your pet's big, smiling face on the front. Just some neat little bonuses. My brother just adopted a puppy, and I told him not to bother looking around for a vet...just let Leo's be the beginning and end of your search.
