I had seen the had some higher priced bottles (maybe someday) but i was sure I would find something i liked. I was also sure it would be one of there bourbons . . . . but I ended up leaving with 3 different corn whiskies. One made from red corn, one from blue corn, and a red, white, and blue corn whiskey (250th anniversary of the USA remember). I showed up around 4:00 PM and hadn't signed up for a tour but they were happy to give me a quick tour as well as walk me through every single whiskey. I had a sample flight and ended up taking hme one or two more than planned. Oh, and the guy actually makes wood hats too. You can try them on too. The one i tried on was a little small for me, so no laughing at the picture . . . . okay?

Then, she took us back to where they make their products. They were in the process of distilling the day we visited, so it was fun to see everything in action. We also got to meet and chat with the owner - such a great experience. That guy has lived a LIFE. I'm not a huge whiskey fan, but my husband has liked everything he's had from Wood Hat. Definitely stop by if driving on 1-70!

The owners Don and Jeanne were so hospitable and kind. The tour was by far the best distillery tour I have been on so far (and I've completed the bourbon trail in Kentucky). You can tell Don has a passion for distilling! If you're in Hermann you have to check this place out. Even if you aren't a bourbon drinker, just go for the ambiance, it's so worth it! Oh, and if you do get a bottle of bourbon be sure to pick up a bar of orange milk chocolate and cherry dark chocolate (made for Copper Mule by Ricky's chocolate shop in Hermann) to pair with your bourbon...the sell them at the distillery. I promise it will be a game changer!

We had a party of 12 and we were told we'd be sat at different tables, no big deal. 8 of our party went to one table and the other 4 sat at a table catty corner to our party. We had separate waiters which I think was maybe their first mistake. Both tables ordered drinks and appetizers that came fast and were delicious....then things quickly fell apart. We were one of the first few tables seated. Our other parties tables food came out and us 4 at the other table was still waiting. We continued to wait while every table that came in after us starts getting their meals. Finally the table behind us that came in 30 min after us got their meals, we asked the waitress if she could check on our food? She came back and said it was "being plated." We wait a solid 30 more min and by this time our other parties table had eaten and were paying and we still did not have our food. Asked the waitress again who said they were waiting on mashed potatoes. We got up to check with the manager who was bartending who never once apologized or stopped to check on what was going on and only said "we got swamped." Which was a crazy excuse considering we were one of the first tables to order. Since the manager refused to help at all we talked to the hostess who was seating people and may have been the asst manager. She checked on our food and told us "there was a problem with the pesto." When our food came out my daughter mushroom and Swiss burger was charred to a crisp and hard. Finally the assistant manager took our meals off of our tickets. It was a frustrating experience for our first visit there and didn't leave a great impression. The food (minus my daughter's burger) and drinks were really good. I'm not sure where the disconnect happened but the managers poor excuse and the way he completely ignored us and the situation was pretty poor customer service. We come to Hermann every year and this year had brought people who had never been before. Sad they didn't get an enjoyable experience and my daughter didn't even get a meal.

Unfortunately, there were not enough available tickets for all three adults and him. I called out to the Caverns to explain the issue and ask if it would be okay. Matt, who answered the phone, said it would be no problem and to just go ahead and purchase the adult tickets. Upon arrival there was ample parking and it was a beautiful place. We headed into the gift shop and checked in for our tour and checked out all of their wares. Gracie led our tour of the caverns. She was so knowledgeable and just a sweet girl. The tour was a great way to spend part of the afternoon. Everyone in our tour group (ages 1-40+) really seemed to enjoy it! If you have some time to spare, you don't want to miss this family friendly, educational, tour.

Sadly our guide Macy was less "passionate cave enthusiast" and more "reciting a script she's said a thousand times and stopped listening to herself." I still don't know how this part of Missouri used to be an ocean based on the tour. She gave the exact same intro four separate times. Not because groups were bumping into each other, just straight up robot mode, probably from also trying to work in the photo package pitch every single time. Ask a follow up question and you'd get a shrug dressed up as an answer. A kid asked about a mineral and got a confident "nope, not that" immediately followed by "I'm not really a gem expert," which, ma'am, pick one. Nobody could tell us where all the clay that used to be in the cave went (there's a lot of water now after the excavation), how the bootleggers pulled off their operation, or whether the cave's ever taken earthquake damage. Also they sell alcohol at the gift shop right before you head into a dark cave, which feels like a liability seminar waiting to happen. What indigenous tribe did the skeleton remains belong to? How did you know it was an indigenous person(s)? What is the difference between an arrowhead and a spear, and when did those relics be given to be on display? She said the stairs were built by child labor because there are child sized handprints in the concrete, but provided no evidence of truth or why. Was it his 18 kids? No one knows. At least it was cool inside while the weather was hot outside. The cave has a story to tell. Macy just wasn't the one telling it. Would recommend the cave, would not recommend Macy. She already told us she's had a bad Yelp review, and I'm sad to say I understand why.

We started at Ozark Distillery, they do tastings you get to choose 4 spirits & two beer samples. They have plenty to choose from. The ladies behind the bar were both really nice and helpful, It started to get busy when we did our tasting so we did them pretty quick & it goes straight to your head but they had a water jug out which helped! Spoiler alert I don't like to taste my liquor but free tastings can't be passed up. I got the blackberry mule & it was very refreshing and yummy. The patio was nice even though it was drizzling they have a covered spaced and big umbrellas over the tables that aren't covered, we sat under the umbrella and it was a really nice morning! Will deff be my go to spot for a rainy day at the lake!
