April 13, Les Caves de la Bourgogne, Paris Our family of four with a son 9 and daughter 10 ended up here by chance for lunch and it turned into the best meal of the entire trip. Arrival and First Impressions The restaurant was filled with locals which is always a good sign. We may have been the only tourists in the room. The atmosphere felt authentic and relaxed, and even with a slight language barrier our server Marius was friendly and helpful. The Highlights The Escargots à la Bourguignonne style here were completely different from others we tried. No shells, served in a rich garlic gravy with mushrooms and onions and plenty of bread for dipping. This was easily the best escargot I have ever had. I had to actively defend my plate from my daughter who kept reaching over to steal bites. I also ordered what I believe was a Gratin Montagnard, a mountain style casserole with potatoes, ham, onion, and cheese. It was incredibly rich, cheesy, and easily one of the most satisfying dishes of the trip. My wife had a Croque Monsieur which was crispy, cheesy, and very filling. She enjoyed it but could not finish it. Our son had a hamburger and the fries were a standout. They had a unique golden color and flavor that felt different from typical fries, and they were excellent. Even the side salad stood out with a light creamy dressing that worked really well. The Challenges Very few. The language barrier and the menu may feel a bit heavy if you are not in the mood for rich food. Would We Return Absolutely. This was our favorite meal in Paris and one we would go out of our way to visit again. Final Thoughts Les Caves de la Bourgogne is the kind of place you hope to stumble into while traveling. Authentic, rich, and incredibly satisfying food with a local feel that made it one of the most memorable meals of the trip. read more

Very rude employee, he shoved the chair when we asked for beer We went there for the second night in a row, the night before last was nice; last night everything was going ok until one of their employees , the average height tiny blonde one with a ponytail, was extremely rude when we asked for another beer. This person has anger issues and does not belong in the service industry , with this attitude he will continue to be less than a mediocre of an employee . If I were the owner of the place he would be fired on the spot. We will not go back during our stay. read more

Really good neighborhood spot in Latin Quarter 1. Everything we ordered was delicious. We had chèvre chaud salad with Miel, oeuf mayonnaise- all generous portions! 2. Salad had three large toasts with goat cheese. Nice touch with honey but could have been slightly less. Very generous portion with lettuce, tomatoes and even walnuts! 3. Ouef - partner loved them- 2 whole eggs cut in half with potatoes as well. 4. Duck confit- best I have had on rue Mouffetard- cooked right with crispy skin and chewy soft meat. Also comes with salad and garlic potatoes- better than those I had at Les Pipos 5. Entrecôte- poivre sauce was superb; gratin dauphinois as a side was excellent!!!! Could have eaten them all day! Love this place! Fantastically simple french food. Recommended by a friend and since recommended to many of my own friends. I have been a few times now and usually order the confit de canard which is served with delicious thinly sliced garlic potatoes and a green salad. This is by far my favourite dish - huge and a fantastic price (about 15 euros for the plat). Last time I had the salad complete which comes with the same delicious fried potatoes, chèvre on toast (which I gave to my friend) and dried meat. Was good and filling but the quality of the meat wasn't fantastic. My friend had the confit de canard which she really enjoyed. The quality of the food is good but not amazing but a great place to experience the real French/Parisian vibe. Sit outside and watch passers by whilst the Parisians smoke their cigarettes and drink their wine. Would recommend to visitors in Paris and any locals who want an easy, good and not too expensive meal. read more

Oh my, how did Cave La Bourgogne escape my review? Sitting in a restaurant 8 months post visit and my wife and I were talking about this spot. I got the hot goat cheese salad and her the duck while our friend got the tartar. Everything was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. It was quite full when we arrived and we preferred a table outside. They served us drinks st the bar and got us seated as quickly as possible. We were able to witness a gorgeous Paris rainstorm all while sitting there and enjoying our meals. We wrapped up the night with coffee and dessert and went about our way. It is funny that while in Paris we visited some of the highest rated and fanciest establishments but this one stands out. Will definitely visits again when we return! The salads were great, and tapas (which I ordered) was reasonably good only. So I ended up eyeing the beef tartare my friend ordered - which was fantastic. A special mention of the sauce, which I used to eat everything with. All these are large enough portions to share with friends. Nice touch of putting a slice of lemon in their coke - our table of 5 ended up ordering that after sighting this at another table. Marketing 101 - be differentiated from the common stock. It works. This was my first time in Paris and I was really looking forward to a Croque Monsieur. So naturally, I went straight for their Italian Croque. I was completely blown away! For those who like grilled cheese sandwiches and pizza, this sandwich had a perfect blend of cheese, ham, and oil on a nice crispy piece of bread. As full as I was half way through my sandwich, I couldn't stop. My wife also got the duck confit. She shared a little with me and it was great. I wasn't really a duck guy before, but after this I was sold. For my first restaurant in Paris, I was definitely not disappointed and would happily go back again. Tres bon! read more

This place was good. It was most definitely not the best place I've ever eaten, but everything was good. We each got the duck, which was very tasty, but I felt was maybe a little too 'fried' if that makes sense. We also got the foie gras which didn't have a lot of flavor to it- although I've only ever had it once before so I don't know if that's just how it tastes. We got a bottle of Chardonnay for a very reasonable price, which was nice. Honestly the best part about this place is the location. It's on a cute street great for people watching. read more

This is a great place to get simple, well-prepared French food. After the recommendation of a friend, I took some visitors here. We all had an entree and plat, shared a bottle of wine, and were too full for dessert and the bill came to about 80 euros, which I thought was very fair for the quality and quantity of the food. I had a beetroot tartare, and the salad complet (without ham), and couldn't finish the salad. It was really yummy, and huge. My visitors had escargots, tartare du boeuf, and duck confit, and they really enjoyed their meals too. Would recommend if you're looking for a simple restaurant with classic French dishes. read more

Amazing! First cafe we tried in Paris and I was in love. The waiters made every effort to explain the end in English and we appreciated it. We were a little intimidated to order but tried out best. I had the salad complete which was incredible. A salad that has everything. Greens plus potatoes and ham and goat cheese.yummm. We went to this restaurant based on the amazing reviews of the duck and beef bourgignon. We had read that your service could be affected by whether you ordered their very overpriced wine (which we did not) or chose tap water over bottled. Similar to previous reviews, our waiter was annoyed and brought bread to all other tables but ours and did not bring water. We really did not want the bread so no big deal. The beef was very good, the duck was bland. Definitely not worth a trip from the Latin Quarter where we are staying. There are so many restaurants in Paris to choose from. read more

This was a great place to dine with kids. Our waiter spoke good English, but he was also encouraging when our kids ordered in French. Service was great and friendly. Food was simple and delicious. The worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. I ordered a special du jour veal cutlet and it was tough, chewy and veiny. Inedible. After several bites I called the waitress to complain and order something else. She shrugged me off for 20 minutes. So I stood up and went to the cashier/owner. She got angry at my insult, grabbed the money in my hand and said I was wrong and will pay. So, I make this my first negative review on Yelp. Please avoid this restaurant. We "dined" there 4 January 2018 at approximately 800 pm. After ordering Boeuf avec sauce Roquefort, the waiter came with the food rather quickly. We were sharing the dish, and first noticed that there was no sauce Roquefort. When I tried to split the steak, the knife couldn't cut through the meat. We spit out the majority of the steak, as it was inedible...75% gristle. The waiter never returned to check on us, but was happy to check on a table behind us twice. When I told him (in French) that it was "immangeable," he just shrugged. I asked for the bill and he apologized, offering no compensation. I also think they ripped us off on the wine. We ordered 46 cl of wine, which is approximately 15.5 oz. He brought us two six oz. glasses and that was it! Rather than argue over the remainder, we just wanted to get out. Horrible food, abysmal service...BUYER BEWARE! 0 stars! read more
