Duck, rare with scrumptious potatoes and gravy
Bev C.

For authentic, traditional French cuisine the place to go is Chez Georges. My husband got the fish and he raved about how it was cooked and the tasty sauce upon it. My choice was the duck. Being from the US, I'm not used to the way it's prepared in France. For me it was undercooked, very raw in my opinion but I did want to dine traditionally. The potatoes and gravy were incredibly delicious. So much so I wanted to lick the plate. If we return to Paris, I would order the same but ask to have the duck cooked well, now that I've tried the traditional offering. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the service warm and friendly.

Decided to have dinner with friends to close out our Frence journey. We came to George based on recommendation from hotel matre'd. We had an appointment at 7pm. We arrived promptly at 7 and were seated promptly and provide with menu. The ambiance was warm and intimate as it was a small interior, which appears to be typical of the area. Primary reason for coming was for the OSSO BUCCO. We were told by the waiter that this was a daily special and today was unavailable. Note: the Osso Bucco was a Saturday special and today is Saturday. A member of the group asked to speak to the owner, at which time Veronica came to the table. My friend indicated that a primary reason for coming was the Osso Bucco. Her response was quite ambilivant and someone terse. We contemplated leaving to go to another restaurant. However, we chose to stay and make the best of it, and it was absolutely the best choice of the night. Veronica took the reigns and proceeded to treat us as honored kings and queens. The food was absolutely great, coupled with a great presentation. The Lamb was nothing less than superb coupled with green salad followed with sorbet that was to die for.....this was truly a capstone event ...what a way to close out pur trip to France and the city of Paris Veronica....well done ..salute...hope to enjoy your company again on our next journey to France.

This restaurant is exactly what you would expect from a high end, high quality, high service. Wonderful ambience, French restaurant. The chicken melted in your mouth and was served with pieces of soft sautéed garlic. . The asparagus was perfectly dressed and the potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The service was one of the best ever received. A MUST visit when in Paris.

Walked into Chez Georges about 7:30 we had reservations so we were seated immediately. The restaurant was not crowded because the they had just opened for dinner about 30 min before we arrived. There were not a lot of people so the atmosphere was really laid back and casual. We chose a table that was inside of the restaurant but was next to an open door so you could see outside and people watch. The waiter came over and informed us that there were no special tonight. Now the main reason we came to the restaurant was to have the special which was suppose to be Osso Buco (veal in a white wine tomato sauce). We were highly disappointed so we asked to speak to the manager to ask why the special was on the menu but was not offered. The manager was Veronica who by the way was not very friendly, she informed us that they were out of the special. I was thinking to myself you just opened 30 minutes ago and the restaurant was not crowded so how are you out of the special already. I guess she saw the puzzled look on my face because then she said that there was no special. We started to leave however we ended up staying because of the time. I was not dissappointed that we stayed because the food was amazing. I ordered the cod with bearnais butter, mashed potatoes and green beans. The cod was amazing perfectly seasoned, cooked and tasted amazing and the bearnais butter took it over the top. The mashed potates and green beans tasted amazing they were seasoned perfectly and complemented the cod. Of course I had to put the bearnais butter on top of the potatoes and ooh lala (as they say in Paris) lol it was excellent! Veronica actually waited our table and by the end of the night I guess she warmed up to us or we warmed up to her. If you are in Paris do yourself a favor make reservations ahead of time and have dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant and once you taste the food you will taste why. Check this place out!

Filet mignon -- perfectly "à point".

Chez George is a higher end restaurant with a somewhat expensive price tag and a favorable reputation among the locals. Maybe our expectations were too high, but we were not impressed at all. Don't get me wrong. It was a nice dinner and the food was good and the service was friendly and adequate. But it just failed to impress at this price tag. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium (à point) and was quite tender, although it was probably not the best prime cut of filet. The Angus entrecote was also quite good with a rich beefy flavor, although the meat was not quite tender. The French pepper sauce was good, but we've had better. Craving for a nice steak? You're better off going across the street to that steak frites place with the line out the door and around the block.

We love this place. There are 2 Chez Georges in Paris, this is the unknown one out near Porte Maillot, and let's keep it that way. (sorta) We luncheoned here in May 2017, loved it so much we had to go back this trip. Hard to call this anything but a fine dining restaurant. We split an heirloom tomato salad, they were all there in their many colors, and each serving had to be the regular portion, so many slices. My wife had the duck Parmentier, absolutely perfect, not light, but great potatoes and duck. I had (hold it) veal kidneys, they were small and tender and perfectly cooked in a sauce I wanted to drink. Just delicios. Dessert - fig tart with Chantilly. Nice. Will go back every time. Service was spot on (do not show up at 2:45 and say you want to just drink some wine, this is a restaurant).

It was one of the few places opened on Jan 1st, so keep in mind Paris actually closes for new years day! This place was very cozy and better than the food was the service! Two very pleasant servers took care of us and pretty much made our night! I ordered the cod and my husband ordered the lamb. As far as the cod, it was very tasty, it just felt like the portion was quite small for €32, so if you are hungry and not ordering an appetizer I don't recommend. The lamb was a very healthy portion, I guess we are used to the chops in the US so we were surprised to get sliced lamb on the plate, it did not say chops on the menu though, lol! The rest of the table ordered steaks, which they said it was good but be aware that our medium in the US is medium rare in France. My friend ordered a potato soup and wasn't very impressed with it. My godmother ordered kidneys and according to her it was very good, I wasn't brave enough to try it, lol! The desserts were to die for!!! Be sure to save sone room for them! Overall a pleasant experience!

Very nice French restaurant. Their specialty seems to be mostly beef. The have a few fish dishes. I tried their fried squid dish and it was ok... Not much flavor. They have few private rooms upstairs for lathers parties which we used one and was pretty cool.

That was the shared pate! Delicious.

Came back again and I was very happy be back! The lamb was my choice and I am sold on their speciality. I wanted it medium rare and it was perfect. The slices were cut perfectly and there was no need for any jus or other accompaniment. Delightful and my new dish.

The food was okay, the service was fine. Cute restaurant, but they do allow pets in the restaurant, so keep that in mind.

I live in California and only eat Mediterranean style food but also have great influences from Asia. This turned out to be the perfect place for my taste. The flavors were rich and subtle, and the execution pitch perfect. I can't say how it compares to other French Michelin stars but it's hands down better than anything I ever experienced in California. I am still grappling with how tantalizing this was.

I thought the menu a little small We settled on a Viognier and a Brouilly while we decided. In the end we both chose the smoked salmon, my partner went for the piece du boucher (bavette with a sort of mash, mushrooms and a sauce...and a surcharge) and I chose the souris d'agneau with mash. Accompanied by a 50cl Malbec; then coffee I thought the salmon was well smoked but my partner - who is Scandinavian - thought too much so. Ignoring that, it was delicious But we both left rather disappointed...mainly because the bavette, as is so often the case in France with any steak, was was as tough as old boots (and too red for me in any event) ...sorry from the waitress when she asked how our meal was, doesn't really cut it.. As it was, my partner left at least 3/4s of it. My souris was fine but needed some vegetables of some description; it looked a little lonely. I seem otherwise to have chosen well, plenty of meat and very tender Thought it was or had been a Rostang place, but not so sure. Shame, nearly but not quite

An elegant upscale French cafe in the Sixteenth Arrondisement…read more The Sixteenth is known for being wealthy, old school conservative and elegant. Le Stella is expensive, serves French classics and executes magnificently. It is the neighborhood cafe for families who maintain a household staff and chauffeurs. They eat well. At Le Stella, you will eat well. * * * Most of the menu looks like it could be served in any cafe in the city. With a notable exception. The menu includes a vast array of seafood to be served as an appetizer. Some cafes will offer raw oysters. Le Stella will offer you a broad selection of oysters from which you may take your pick. The oysters are not even remotely cheap. Most of the tables were starting with seafood. I have generally been unhappy with the oysters I have gotten at everyday hoi polloi cafes. I strongly suspect that this is the place I want to go if the plan is to get my French aphrodisiacs. * * * I DID have the steak tartare. OH. MY. GOD. I have had a lot of steak tartare both in Paris and elsewhere in France. Nobody's version comes up to the standard of Le Stella. If you want to find out what steak tartare can do, This is where you want to order the dish. The beef itself was wonderful ... Which is not always a guarantee with the competition. What set the dish apart though was the flavoring. This was the spiciest and most stimulating steak tartare I have had in my life. It was not blow-the-top-of-your-head-off hot, like a dish with two cups of Thai green peppercorns. But my palate was hit with strong flavors of every type imaginable, As if a martial arts star was doing his signature fifteen move finisher in my mouth. There was strong yellow mustard powder. There was black pepper. There was green onion. There was horseradish. There was who knows what else? Each bite was absolutely strong and absolutely pungent. But each bite was also absolutely different. I never knew what was going to happen next. Just eating raw beef with some black pepper dumped in is no longer going to do it for me. I have seen the Holy Saint of Steak Tartare. No mortal Steak Tartare will ever rise to this level of divinity. * * * The wine cellar is also impressive. You can go all out and buy a bottle of a great vintage. (You can do that in many other French cafes too - Or for that matter - at the upscale wine stores which can be found every three or four blocks in Paris.) But what they sell by the glass is much better than most other cafes' "just-one-glass" choices. I had an first rate Beaujolais that was surprisingly reasonably priced. My wife was very happy with her fish. * * * I was watching my weight so I passed on the very attractive cheese and dessert options. As far as I could see, the only real lack was the bar whose spirit offerings were plebian and uninteresting. At Le Stella, you want to drink wine. Any other beverage is treated as a toss off. But sometime when my budget goes up and my waistline goes down, I would like to make a stab at their full menu. There were a lot of happy oyster eaters in that room.

However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.
