Service is horrible, no one comes out when you pull up, you have to have an appointment for everything, tires rotated, tires balanced ect, I would drive to Merrill there service is excellent, no rude receptionist like Alturas, I was able to get my tires rotated and balanced in 20 minutes, would of took me 2 separate appointments and hours to get it done in Alturas. read more

On a recent trip, my truck broke down in Alturas. I called around about having it repaired, and was told by locals that Les Schwab could repair it. I called their store, and Ben (the manager) informed me that they could repair it. I thought they just did tires! They were able to repair my truck quickly, and at a great price. Had a flat tire on our truck while pulling a travel trailer late this afternoon near Alturas, CA. Called Les Schwab and they said to come on in even though we wouldn't be there for a few minutes after their closing time. They fixed our tire and checked the rest of the tires on our truck and trailer and to top it off, wouldn't accept any payment! Wish we didn't live 600 + miles away from this great place! A persistent slow leak resulted in a detour to the nearest tire service center. After some troubleshooting, the super helpful, diligent & skilled staff at Les Schwab Tires in Alturas, California identified the issue. They found that our rim had a hairline fracture which prevented the tire from maintaining proper air pressure. The technicians then installed our all terrain tire on the spare full size rim, checked all the tires again and got us back on the road. We cannot stress how awesome the team at this tire center was. We half expected to roll up to this seemingly middle of nowhere garage and get treated unfairly. They were fantastic. Now it's time to schedule an appointment with Mercedes Benz to get a replacement rim which should be covered under warranty. read more

I am a 66 year old disabled man living on a limited income. I bought my first set of Schwab Tires when I was 28. I had done business with them ever since, regardless of where I lived. That ended today. It appears that Les doesn't appreciate such a long term customer. Why, well I found a set of tires for my truck elsewhere for a remarkable deal. Last time I purchased the tires at Schwab ..this time I bought elsewhere for almost 1/4th the cost. I still took them into Schwab for mounting and balancing and was shocked. Since i did not buy this particular set of tires from them, they charged $160 for the service. Now that may be policy but I would think that a customer of 38 years would gain a little respect. But, it doesn't end there. I specifically told them that i would take the old tires with me, as they still had some good mileage on them and I would mount them on some used rims, yes that i bought a Schwab too. First,when I got the bill it included a California disposal fee..Why am I paying a disposal fee for tires I took with me ? Particularly since I know that these tires are good enough for them to resell as used. Second, I paid for new valve stems ?Not sure why as I had them put brand new rims on it about 5 months ago. Third, as I stated i am 66 and disabled... Yet I had to put the tires in my own truck after paying and excessive fee just to keep them.. The whole thing took 2 1/2 hours and other customers that came in after i did were serviced first...Now, I would not complain but this is not the first time I have felt disrespected. About a year ago I bought the aforementioned rims , as used from them, as an stopgap until I found new rims.They showed me a chrome rim in fair shape for $35 each.. They showed me one... They did the work and I drove home... When I got home I immediately noticed that there were 2 chrome rims on the drivers side...on the passenger side..ratty old black ones.. It may seem like a good why for Les to bolster the bottom line... but in the end my business going forward goes elsewhere as does my story and opinion. read more

We had a flat tire hundreds of miles from home, in Alturas. Having had an excellent experience at a Les Schwab location in Burns, Oregon last year, we went to the Les Schwab location in Alturas. Again, simply excellent service! Friendly, helpful employees, and the tire was repaired while we were at breakfast next door. Unfortunately, there is no Les Schwab location where we live, the closest being about thirty miles away. Maybe I should take me non-emergency business there... read more

We blew out a front tire driving down the highway just past Alturas. We had tow truck take us to Les Schwab and we couldn't have had a better experience. Marlin Peterson, the assistant manager ended up making special accommodations for us to get our truck back on the road. He personally stayed late after hours to fix our broken tie rod in addition to getting us a new tire. Great friendly service with a comfortable waiting area too! read more
