I…read morevisited recently on my search for raw materials to duplicate a stacked stone landscaping wall. I have a contractor on standby, willing to do the work if I supply the materials. I've been carrying around one of the stones to match up but am finding most stone yards have business hours the same as I work. Fortunately I was able to get to Penn Stone since they're located in Lancaster City by the Clipper Stadium before closing with some time to browse. I went inside their office to inquire on how this works. A nice gentleman took my name and wrote it on a long piece of yellow tape. This is how you "tag" your materials, similar to how you would a Christmas tree. He lead me straight to the area I needed to be after looking at my sample stone. I was able to find a pretty close match within 5 minutes. Here's when things got tripped up. A skid is $290 and included delivery, however they don't deliver that small of quantity. So you have to tag, pay, and wait until they get a big order in your area (not even a bunch of small orders) for it to be delivered. While he said they are in my area "often", with a contractor on standby there was just too many variables to commit. I even offered to pay extra for delivery with a firm day, which they said they can't do. The stone yard is only 5 miles away. I wish they had more delivery options available. I did find their prices inline with other local stone supplies I've researched online. Who knows, if I am able to work something out with my contractor I may be back to place the order, however do feel that's a pretty crappy policy for delivery. Also worth noting, while the office closes at 5, the stone yard is only available till 4:30 - it's dirty, uneven, and dusty, although organized well if you know what you're looking for. Be mindful of what shoes you wear. I came straight from the office so my sandals were filthy when I left. Parking was also confusing - I had no idea where I should park so I parked in the stone yard itself. If coming from the east, be careful as there's a blind corner you need to cross to access their property and cars were flying thru. There's a nice "sample" outdoor space highlighting some of the products available that's beautiful and could be a source of inspiration or a relaxing spot to decide on how to proceed.

My wife & I spent two months vetting shed manufacturers from Gettysburg, down to Bel Air, MD and up to Lebanon with many places in between, and the best quality storage sheds we found were right here at Glick Woodworks LLC in Mt Joy. From the pressure treated 4 X 4 sleepers to the pressure treated 2 X 4 joists topped with two layers of 5/8" plywood, the foundation system of our shed was extremely well thought out and crafted. I cross sighted the floor of the shed and the opposing corner measurements were spot on dead nuts. Every single sole plate, stud, header, trimmer, king stud, and top plate of the wall framing systems were cut square and accurately without a single gap between any of them. The rafters and collar ties were cut & notched with precision so as not to compromise their integrity, and the roofing system was topped off by OSB sheathing covered with underlayment and top quality IKO dimensional roof shingles. The rafters at the eaves were all perfectly plumb cut and covered with straight fascia boards and ventilated soffits. This will allow me to install gutters on the fascia boards and direct rain water away from the shed. So when you combine the foundation, wall framing and roofing systems all together, this shed is absolutely rock solid. On top of this was added all the lipstick items such as a pressure treated wood ramp to easily move equipment in and out of the shed, diamond plate sill protectors at the roll up door and the mandoor, two openable & screened windows with shutters, vinyl siding and all the trim, which makes our shed look gorgeous. But the best part of this shed is the owner, David Glick, and the great team of coworkers that he has assembled. Besides David, we also interacted in the office with Josiah, and both men were extremely friendly, honest, ambitious and knowledgeable about the products that they manufacture, and both men were also willing to share their knowledge and experiences regarding the local community in which they live and work. We also spoke with a couple of employees outdoors who were involved in various shed construction tasks, and each of those men were just as kind & friendly as David & Josiah. I must also mention delivery of the shed. OMG, it was amazing to watch the shed being unloaded from the tractor trailer and then maneuvered from the street and down my side yard property to the compacted gravel building pad (constructed by Precision Worx, another outstanding company) in our rear yard, about 100 yards from the street. All this was accomplished by one man using a remote control device, and he set the building down onto the gravel pad exactly where I had sprayed the desired building corner locations with spray paint. So from first contact at their office until the delivery truck exited our neighborhood, working with Glick Woodworks LLC to construct & deliver a new shed for us was an absolute pleasure, and they made the entire process stress free for us. The initial interaction we had was fine, just to find out that once our order was placed, everything went downhill quickly! The Hajoca representative originally told us the order would be delivered within 3-4 weeks. Understanding that we had a tight timeline to meet, she never mentioned about certain parts in this particular color being on back-order. Here we are over 3 months later, and we are STILL waiting on certain Kohler parts for the shower! The expectation was never set appropriately. In addition, we moved forward with using different colored parts to "temporarily" have the bathroom up and running. Sadly, when the fixtures were installed, the toilet was delivered with a piece chipped off the back and cracked, now we have to re-order and wait another 3+ weeks for a new toilet. This could have been a 4 star experience if pick up went a little easier. The backstory was I…read moreneeded glass for a dresser top. It needed to have polished edges. I called several different glass companies to get estimates and lead times. Only two answered, one quoting a price of $60. Howell's gave me a price of $35, while all the others never returned my messages. It was a no brainer to place my order with Howells, although I did have some pick up concerns. I was told it would take a week. I placed the order on a Thursday around lunchtime. Howells shares space and/or has some sort of affiliation with a True Value in the city. In a less than desirable part of the city. I was concerned about parking, as that area is street, and some metered and very hard to secure parking. The weight of the glass according to my goggle research would be about 27 lbs. I was concerned about the possibility of walking some distance in a bad neighborhood with a large piece of glass. I spoke to them about this and was told of their parking lot in the back off of the Beaver Street alley and to call when I got there and someone would bring it out. To my surprise my order was ready for pick up a few hours later and was a few dollars less than they quoted me. I went to pick up after I got off work, still dressed in my work attire. The alleyway is wedged between a church and warehouses. There was a lot back there, wasn't sure it was theirs but parked and called. They said I was in the correct spot and to walk up the ramp, thru the glass shop, into the True Value to pick up. I asked why they can't bring it to my car and was told that "there was paperwork I needed to complete". It was prepaid. I assumed someone would carry the glass out. It's late in the day and about to get dark. I'm in heels. I walk up the ramp and thru a workshop where they are actively cutting glass with protective gear on. I'm not in protective gear and it's a maze to get to the store. In the store a lady hands me the glass and the receipt - which apparently was the "paperwork aspect" and I'm left to fend for myself, carrying this huge piece of glass the same way I came in. An employee did offer to open the door for me but at no time was it offered that they carry it to my car. I made it ok but wasn't thrilled about the experience especially after being told pickup would be handled differently. Note to store, they need to make this process easier for customers, especially females and at no time should any customer walk thru a working "shop". That alone is a huge liability. Also labeling of the lot and lighting would be most appreciated for safety reasons especially in such a bad neighborhood. Otherwise I was thrilled they got my order done earlier and for less.

These folks know what they are doing and are honest too. I won't need to play around if I need anything glass in the future, it's Howell's for me.
