I also had a follow-up appointment scheduled for 1 Jun for the permanent crown placement. The following day, I had a root canal completed by the endodontist, and that experience went great. On 19 May, my temporary crown broke. I left an after hours message with Surprise Smiles and received a return call the next day. Instead of helping repair the crown as I had originally been told, I was simply reminded that I already had an appointment on 1 Jun. I explained that I was in a significant amount of pain and was then told to contact the endodontist. You do not need a dental background to know what the answer was going to be, but I still reached out to the endodontist anyway. They told me they do not do crowns and that I needed to contact the dentist who placed it. I have since contacted the VA and cancelled all additional care through Surprise Smiles. What shocked me most was how quickly responsibility was passed off instead of trying to help a patient who was in pain.

I selected Burns because they accepted my insurance. The dentist I left told me not to go with…read morethem because they were less expensive even if they didn't accept my insurance. I was sure that with my insurance it would be less expensive to go with another dentist because I had the "Cadillac" of dental coverage. As it turns out even with insurance coverage I was paying so much more at Burns than at other dental offices. As an example Burns cost for a procedure I needed done was $25000+. When I told them the cost was too much they said they would discount it to $22000+. I went to three other dentists and I found one to do the exact same procedure for $10300. In addition Burns began charging 3.5% to use a credit card. I decided to change dentists because of those two issues. Through the years I found them to be about twice as expensive as other dental offices. On my last procedure the dentist charged $319 for "flipper teeth". At Burns I paid $970 for a "flipper tooth". When I left they sent me a bill for over $500. They said this was for a claim that was denied because of frequency. They did the procedure in 2023 and they did the same procedure in 2025. If it failed in 3 years they should have done it for gratis I would think.
