They surpassed our expectations in all of the above, and in encouraging us to take risks where we otherwise wouldn't have. We are so happy with the end-result! Here's what I liked best about working with Katie and Michelle: 1) Super responsive: We were on a tight timeframe with our decorating project. Katie never let me send her an email without responding within 24 hours (and it was usually more like 24 minutes!) 2) Innovative: Just look at their website (www.rosenfeldking.com) and see what amazing colors, patterns, and furniture they pull together to make a room. I loved that they weren't afraid of color. They pushed me past my "comfort-zone" in a non-pushy way, and I'm so glad they did! 3) Hands-on: When I couldn't be at the house to accept a furniture delivery or let in a work crew, Katie or Michelle would. Seems very rare in this industry, and this was a huge deal - truly a lifesaver in our case. 4) Budget-conscious: For the most part, we stayed within our budget for the entire house. They pushed me to spend more where it counted, and to not spend when it wasn't worth it. 5) Thoughtful: I needed a family-friendly design that was pretty, but could withstand a TON of rough and tumble. I found that they worked with me to make it more "function over form" -- for which I am very grateful!

Kathryn was generous with her knowledge, such that we came away not only with recommendations, but with an understanding of the principles behind them. She answered our questions intelligently, then expanded into possibilities we hadn't even considered. We particularly appreciated the fact that she was sensitive to our budget, offering suggestions that could be implemented now as well introducing possible ideas for the future. While she has lovely taste and excellent instincts, Kathryn took care never to impose her ideas; instead, she offered guidance, then encouraged us to embrace the choices that spoke to us. She helped us with paint colors, furniture dimensions, traffic flow, lighting options, and all sorts of additional things -- from the small to the structural -- that we never would have known about. To top it all off, she was professional in every way, as well as a personal delight to work with. They gave me a price of $998 to install the cabinets direct to a padded out wall I was going to build so that the cabinets were not out of reach. One star to the great women who came out to measure the job. She was kind and courteous. I had a large contracting company come out and bid this job plus some extra work. They built the soffit themselves. Installed blue board, tape and seamed, led lights under the cabinets, installed 400 linear feet of baseboard and trimmed the stairs to the second floor. Cost me $1,200.00. I supplied the cabinets that cost me $200. As someone who works as an estimator for a very large company in the plumbing and Hvac industry. I work with material, labor and profit margins all day. I figured this might me valuable feedback to take into consideration. I'm sure they do great work but before making your decision when building customer cabinetry. Call a licensed carpenter or cabinet maker instead.

I got to visit the Headquarters of America's Test Kitchen (squee!), which is located in the…read moregorgeous new Boston Design Center building. While I didn't spend a ton of time exploring the vast facility, what I did get to see was pretty impressive. Not only is it home to a bunch of creative offices, interior decorating showrooms, and of course, ATK, but also several eateries like Flour Bakery, and cute little "food boxes", which are almost like permanent food trucks. Granted, I didn't experience BDC from a "design" perspective, but from what I did see, I was impressed. There's ample parking in the front lot and a parking garage, and the whole building is spacious, clean, and modern. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit "unfinished", but the Design Center is easily accessible via MBTA Silver Line. Again, totally not a "designer", but as a civilian, I liked what I saw!

This is a pretty spectacular carpet store located in Boston, and while it's not cheap, they have some amazing products here. We aren't even in the market for carpets, but because my family is Persian, I'll often will stop in and see what someone has on sale. Barbie is not too familiar with Persian stuff so I wanted to show her some of the more fancy types of things that you can get. She was pretty impressed, but not enough to part with enough of our money to get one (which she pretty much controls and I like it that way, I mean look at her). What's more - these are good people, and all things considered, this is probably where I would buy carpets in Boston if needed.

The staff helped me select this type of runner because of the issue of my dog and I wanted a stripe pattern to coordinate with my wall color. The installers mapped the stairs on site to make sure everything was perfect before slicing the runner at the shop. They came back with all the separate pieces to install exactly in each tread. The quality of my new carpet and the workmanship in installation from Landry & Arcari has added value to my house.
