Our apartment building requires residents to cover 75% of their bedroom floor with carpeting. And our bedroom is freaking huge. We knew we needed a big rug fast, but didn't have the cash to get all designer with the thing. Lechmere Rug came to the rescue. This small, no-frills store offers racks of beautiful designed rugs, but we bypassed them in favor of the remnants pile. A huge stack of rolled up, leftover carpet dominates the showroom. Lechmere will cut the remnants to your desired dimensions and bind the edges to make an area rug. Obviously, you can't get a rug bigger than the remnant, but you can get it any size smaller than the remnant. We ordered an 8 x 10 rug based on our budget and our estimates of our room size (along with padding for underneath). It took about a week for the order to be delivered. The morning it was to arrive, the Lechmere guy called and apologized--he'd accidentally bound the rug at 8 x 11, and if I'd just give him a few days, he'd fix it. Meanwhile, we'd been second guessing whether we cut the rug too small. The solution seemed clear. Lechmere was happy to deliver the rug as-is, and we were thrilled to receive a slightly bigger rug at no extra charge. The rug looks much nicer than I expected based on the remnant, and I was extremely satisfied with delivery, service, and price. My biggest reason for giving Lechmere only 4 stars is that the selection is limited, particularly among remnants, and this is a no-frills type of place. read more

We were searching for a carpet remnant to cover the badly painted basement floor, and came across Lechmere online. We called to make sure they had remnants large enough to cover the area we needed, and they sure did. The salesman even told us that they had remnants (10X13) for as low as $130. After remodeling multiple houses, it's incredibly difficult to get quotes over the phone - but Lechmere had no qualms about giving us a quote. While I was purchasing my new rug I decided to add on a runner as well - the only downside was the selection - they did not have one that matched the area rug that I picked, but I did find one that was similar. The owner (or the man who identified himself as the owner) at Lechmere rug is a breathtakingly rude, ignorant, hostile, and dishonest individual. I would never do business here again and would recommend others that there are much better alternatives nearby, such as Cambridge Rug Co, where they are honest, courteous and professional. This following describes my recent experience at Lechemre rug: I purchased a remnant at a reasonable price from a very helpful and professional salesman one evening. I intended to custom cut the remnant to fit the back of my car and planned to return to have the edges bound. The salesman quoted me a price of $10 for each interior corner, and $2.50 per linear foot. When I returned the next day, the original salesman was not there and the "owner" was the only one working. I told him that I was back to have the carpet bound and explained to him that the salesman from the previous night had already quoted me a price for it and which he actually wrote down on the recipe. The owner refused to accept this and said "that's not right, it's always been $25". Unfortunately I didn't have the recipe from the previous night on me (although it turned out that would not have made a difference anyway) but I said I would be happy to bring it back when I came to pick up the carpet and pay for it then. The owner wrote out a receipt and said he was giving me a "good deal" but when i looked at the slip he was still charging me $25 per interior corner... more than twice the rate i had been promised when i purchased the carpet. when I asked him to clarify why he would not honor the written price the other salesman gave me he simply spat out "if you don't want me to do it take your business somewhere else". he then went on to say that they "gave" me the remnant (which I paid $45 for!!) and all this other nonsense. he then threw out the sip and told me to take my business elsewhere. It was really unbelievable how hostile and aggressive he was. I had no idea what was wrong with him. Maybe he was having a bad day but that kid of behavior is unacceptable. Don't shop there unless you are interested in a similar experience. read more

This is a great place. Both Patrick and his son were very friendly and did not push me to buy anything at all. It was very relaxed and I mentioned i was lookign for a simple, "cheaper" rug, and they pointed me out to the "extra pieces" that they had. I found one I liked..asked them about the material and went with it. For your info, most of these rugs are very high quality. mine was 100% wool. I think the way they are able to do solid prices is because they buy bulk (im not sure but i think he mentioned that). As it turned out, after i bought the rugand got it home, I realized the color wasn't quite working, i asked them if I could return it. They were totally cool about it. The rug was really nice, it just didn't work color wise, and I ended up going with a rug that my folks gave me. Patrick gave me a full refund with out being an issue at all. VERY EASY GOING AND VERY PROFESSIONAL. As somewhat who is very fearful of a "hard-sell", I can say that you will not experience this here. They were helpful, but in no way trying to get me to buy anything. Like most all good businesses, I got the idea that they stood behind their product, thus - no hard-sell. I stopped in on my way home from Lechmere Station to see if they had rubber stair treads available, and they did. These are a commercial item and not that easy to find. The guy took my name and phone number and said he would check prices for me on Monday and call me. I'm pretty sure that was two weeks ago. No call, nothing, and that even after I told him they carpeted my bedroom a few years ago. I guess I should have known he wasn't planning on calling me after he said "good luck" and instead of goodbye, when I was leaving the store. I don't chase vendors....moving on. read more

Great place! Last week, I purchased a 9x12 area rug here and couldn't have been more pleased with the two guys working here (I think one was the owner). They had two rugs that I was trying to decide between and they told me to feel free to take either home and try it out and if I wanted to exchange it for the other one...they were fine with it. Plus, one was twice the price of the other and they didn't try to 'sell me' on the more expensive one. Overall, very friendly.....and patient with me deciding. I would strongly recommend anyone to go to Lechmere Rug. We had a lovely wool rug and runner installed in our basement in our home in Waban. The process was very easy and stress free. Patrick senior works the sales floor on the weekend is helpful/ humorous and does not use any pressure sales tactics. The installation measure was easy and the carpet measurer arrived on time and was polite. The carpet installation was a bit of a process as the usual installer was not available which led to another rather poorly trained staff to install my carpet leaving several problems with the installation. Not to worry as the company does not employ these people anymore! The company always responded quickly and professionally and honestly wanted to resolve the situation. Patrick junior who seems to run the business was overall very helpful and totally went out of his way to make everything right. The company ended up replacing the rug and runner and making things look perfect and beautiful at no extra expense to us. My suggestion is to check this place out, take some samples home and try what work for you. It is easy to get a quote as they have a nice person there who can figure out the costs. They have amazingly beautiful wool rugs at a fraction of the cost of Dover Rug and give them a try with the following caveat- Be sure to ask for John who has been an installer with them for 27years- he will make your install be seamless and just perfect and the carpet will look like a work of ART. It is really important the installer knows what he or she is doing as this is really an art and a bad install will leave you upset with how the carpet looks. If a young group of males shows up for your install wait for John ( In his 40s- silver fox type) as he is really the only one I would want installing anything. The parking is small and the shop is not really luxurious - sort of cold and drafty but well worth the savings for the end product that you will have in your home. Would recommend this company to neighbors and friends for sure. I am so so so happy with the job they did and can't wait for my project to be finished. read more
