A complete nightmare that totally ruined my vacations.
2 days before rental start, Let's Go Campers write me on Outdoorsy to coordinate things for the camper. As I read the message, I notice my reservation is changed (was Masy that sleeps 4, now The Bumble Wasp that sleeps only 2). I tell them about this major problem but get no feedback at all from them for a complete day.
Less than 1 day before rental start, I finally get answered my campervan was damaged but a backup will be provided in time for my trip. I immediately answer them that it will do and they then tell me they would call the next morning to coordinate things.
The next day everything seems to go smoothly until I get on the ferry and call them. On the call the person is evasive and tells me he will contact cleaning service to make verifications and call me back right after. 45 minutes later, I am off the ferry and nobody called back. I call them again but fall on voicemail.
Minutes later, outdoorsy calls me to tell me there is no camper for me. I become very upset because just earlier we were coordinating with cleaning service. I call Let's Go Campers to understand what is going on. A very arrogant guy named 'Dan' picks up and tells me I won't get a campervan until the next day. Being upset to learn all this at the very last second, off the ferry, I ask why was I told otherwise just minutes ago. Dan then tells me to shut up if I want to hear what are my options and have a camper. I ask him what my options are but he keeps being on defensive, that I am wrong, that he notified me 3 days ago (a complete lie). He says that "[he has] all the control and [I] have no control on the situation", says that I am "abusive and that [he doesn't] rent [his] vans to abusive people". He keeps lying and being uncooperative. All attempts to reason him fail so we end the call.
I call outdoorsy for them to handle the situation. They come back to me to tell me that I would have no choice but wait until the next day. I take a taxi from the ferry terminal to a mediocre hotel room costing $350 after searching for 1.5 hour because *everything* on the island is booked.
I try to follow outdoorsy's recommendation to keep all communications on outdoorsy for documentation. But I do net get any reply so around 9:30pm, I am forced to call them to get feedback.
Within seconds from answering the call, I weirdly and instantly get transfered to the owner of the camper to be rented to me the next day. He says his name is 'Buck', insists he's not part of Let's Go Campers, that they begged him to rent me his van. I discuss with him for 14 minutes. No question is clearly answered. At the end of the call it's totally unclear if, when and where I would get a camper, and I must wait until next day.
Next day at 8am, Buck calls me back saying outdoorsy asked him to call me. He looks irritated. Again he is super evasive and keeps saying the campervan is not ready because of cleaning team. So I just candidly propose him to take the camper as is and that I don't care if it's cleaned or not, and that I will just go to a store and buy bedsheets. Buck's irritation increases substantially and I then notice the same arrogance and irritation as with Dan as he is now telling me to shut up and do what he says or I would not get a campervan. Seeing that Buck was actually Dan, I just tell him "ok, will do exactly as you want and will wait for your cleaning team to clean. Just have a question. Are you Dan, the guy I talked with yesterday?" Hearing this, he becomes *totally* upset and that the rental is cancelled. At this point, absolutely no reasoning could be done with him. Seeing there was no chance I would be getting a campervan from them anymore, I just told him to end the call and he did.
I had no choice but to take a ferry back to Vancouver, change my flight and go back home. I lost all my money on airplane tickets, flight changes, hotel room, campground reservations, ferry fares, taxi... Several thousands wasted because of them. My girlfriend and my two kids are completely devastated. read more
