This is the best AYCE hot pot place in KW in my opinion. Even though the restaurant is slightly inconvenient, I always look forward to visiting. This is one of the rare late night grabs that is not fast food. Environment: Like I said, it is not the most convenient restaurant for students, but trust me, it is worth taking the trip. The restaurant does offer free parkings for those who drive. On the inside, the place looks like those traditionally looking Chinese restaurants. The ventilation is not the best, so wear something you don't mind getting dirty and getting smelly in. Food: AYCE hot pot. The price doesn't include lamb however, it costs extra. The beef, chicken, fried pastry 面筋 are my favorites. They make a lot of the ingredients themselves, so it's always fresh and they are super tasty. Their slushies are really good too and the portion is quite big. The price for hot pot includes tips and tax as long as you pay cash. Service: Yeah...this place is notorious for the bad attitude of the owner. He's manageable as long as you don't piss him offer. Since I've been hearing about the hype for this place, I decided to try it on a Friday night with 3 other friends. I would recommend coming here if you have 4+ people since the table does fit large groups. First, make sure you make reservations at 5 PM when the restaurant opens - they only allow reservations if it's 4+ people. When we arrived at the restaurant it is very busy and not a lot of parking spots so you'll most likely have to park on the street adjacent to the restaurant. Pros: This hot pot is Hong Kong style which just means it's mainly chicken broth and the ingredients are catered to Hong Kong taste but there are still the essential ingredients to a traditional hot pot. The price is amazing you really can't beat $26.50/person + taxes for anywhere within the GTA for AYCE. Cons: Unfortunately service is terrible. Since it's very busy in the restaurant the owner will give you a time limit which is about 1 hour and 15 minutes which I thought is sufficient time to eat but would differ for others. He literally was watching us to the second and the environment felt very rushed. Leung Yue Hot Pot on King is my "go-to" Chinese Hot Pot place in Kitchener. The restaurant is located in the same location as the now defunct Castle on King Restaurant. For those who don't know what Hot Pot is, from Wikipedia: it consists "of a simmering metal pot of stock at the center of the dining table. While the hot pot is kept simmering, ingredients are placed into the pot and are cooked at the table. Typical hot pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, leafy vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, dumplings, and seafood. The cooked food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce. In many areas, hot pot meals are often eaten in the winter." When we go for Hot Pot at Leung Yue, we always go for the All-You-Can-Eat option, so that we can get more of our favourite items. The staff has always been friendly with us, and has always been helpful. We love the great ingredients for the Hot Pot, including beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, among many others, which are freshly prepared. As another reviewer also pointed out, because of the large amount of food, Hot Pot is best experienced with a large group of people. This isn't your typical hotpot place. The restaurant itself isn't very decorated, and the owner will not be very happy if you don't follow the rules: touching the stove yourself, having leftover food, going inside to rush him so you don't wait in line, etc. BUT he also always refuses to accept any tip, so you can't complain ;) (FYI you need a minimum of 2 people) HOWEVER, the food is simply amazing. I have a lot of friends from Toronto who drive all the way here for it. It's not the typical spicy hot pot. Instead, you mix his special super delicious satay sauce with soy sauce or pepper to your own liking. The quality of meat is always super fresh. In other hot pot places, lamb meat is usually the superstar, but here people usually order beef since lamb comes at an extra cost. Tbh the beef here is just as good. The chicken is also very tender, not dry at all. Moreover, the meat balls are hand made and super fresh. Imo the best food to get include: beef, chicken, shrimp, veggies, fried dough, and dumplings The only reason I gave 4 stars is you almost always have to wait in line, usually for 30min-1 hour, so you're basically even more starved than when you get there. Definitely NOT gonna go again, unless I wanna get kicked out by the rude Chinese restaurant owner for a second time. The owner of this restaurant is very rude to customers. There was time limit for the buffet, and when there were still over 20 mins left and I asked the waiter to add some water, the owner suddenly yelled at me and asked me to leave immediately. Yes, he yelled at me, and there were still 20 mins left. He did this just because there was a huge line outside. Despite all these, the food was overpraised as well. There were only about 10 options on the menu, the texture of their chicken was weird, and the beef was not fresh. Besides, the tables were dirty, and you will see if you go there. I definitely won't recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. You will be disappointed by the awful service, the below average quality of food, and the poor restaurant environment. read more

First of all, this place is understaffed. The owner handles all the phone calls himself while the rest of the staff is busy waiting tables or in the kitchen preparing orders. There's nobody to greet you when you come in and if you call in ahead of time, you have to speak to the owner whose English is below acceptable standards. I made a reservation for four people at 5 pm. Everything seemed fine, until we came in and he told us we needed five people to make a reservation. Turns out he got confused with 5 pm and thought we had five people, so when he only saw four of us, our reservation was immediately dropped and we had to wait in line for almost an hour to get a table. He's also incredibly rude and doesn't know how to deal with people at all; he yelled at us as well as other customers. That being said, I knew the service here is terrible before coming in and would have been fine if the food was as good as other reviewers made it out to be. However, the food was just alright. Not above average and not below average. I'd give the food 3/5 stars, but because of the terrible service and the fact that the whole place looks a bit run down, making you question whether or not the food is any safe to eat, I have to give this place 2/5 stars. The main reason this place has any business is because of a severe lack of competitors in the area. It's OK if your group is really craving hot pot and you don't want to go all the way to the GTA for something better, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. "How is this place still in business?" -Was the question on my mind as I drove past this place for the first time in 5 years. Since I didn't actually eat the food last time, I figured maybe I was too harsh in my initial review. Sure the service was horrific, and sanitation questionable. But I thought to myself "I am not the same person as I was 5 years ago, I can overcome the demons of my past." When I was a student at UW, I'd frequent this place once a term. You don't come here for the service but rather come here if you're looking for some decent hotpot grub. The satay sauce is very delicious (and if I recall correctly, homemade)...you're served typical hotpot foods i.e. dumplings, a very good selection of veggies, fried gluten, tofu, assorted meat balls, chicken, beef (best hotpot beef I've ever had), pork, seafood and a few types of noodles. I'd say this place is worth making the trip to versus spending $40/pp at Morals Village in the UW plaza. The owner is super friendly and enjoys meeting new people. We usually just go with the meat all you can eat, but they have a meat and seafood option as well. All their meat balls and fish balls are home made and they always have fresh produce. Their beef slices are out of this world, dip it in their satay sauce and you don't want to stop eating! Once you get to know the owner better, he would bring you a plate of their amazing home made shrimp balls on the house. What else? Noodles, just try them all! Try everything! My favourite hot pot place in Kitchener / Waterloo. Leung Yue is a family run restaurant with great tasting food! I believe they make a lot of the ingredients themselves, so it's quite special. The mango slushy is also a very popular item and I get it every time I go. The owner has a very unique personality in which some may find rude. But once you get to know him, he is actually very nice. Wait for more than an hour and I was very okay with that, knowing that this place is very popular and we came like 20 minutes after they just opened! However, a chain of horrible things start to happen. I went with another friend so i thought we would be given a table for two but they actually put us in a big round table to eat with other groups!!!! When we came, one set of toppings already sit on the table but the table was not cleaned very thoroughly and we seriously don't feel like we are having a new set! I was still pretty okay with that since i already read the reviews and i know those things will happen.The worst thing was when i tried the soup base, it is very very bland and tasteless! Later only when i read some other reviews did i find out that you have to put soy sauce and satay sauce into the soup to make it taste better. Also i have to mention there is no instructions on how to order the food so and if you just come in eating without saying anything, they will automatically assume that you're doing an AYCE. They have only around 10-13 hotpot food options and they all taste very normal. The dumplings skin is pretty good but the fillings is very normal. None of the hotpot food actually makes me want to eat them again but i try to order more since we choose the AYCE and i do not want to waste $25 and an hour waiting for this :|| Overall, i just do not like anything about this restaurant! I gave one star for the "not bad" food and clean washrooms! P/s: this is my very personal point of view! I was pretty surprised when i saw so many Chinese people going there too, from which I conclude that maybe this restaurant actually has good Hong Kong style hotpot. Honestly, I am so disappointed with this hot pot place - I wouldn't even call it a restaurant. We walk into this medieval times wannabe restaurant and get seated for 7. We got seated by this rude old Chinese guy telling us what we can or cannot do. Our food came out and we somehow found two flies in the vegetables. The owner was extremely rude to all of us, swearing at us in Chinese assuming we did not understand what he was saying about us. Finding the menu was difficult assuming there was a menu given to us, to only later find out it was on the wall, though no explanation was given as the Chinese guy simply brought out the food. The quality of the meat was subpar, and the raw meat came out warm like it was sitting out waiting to be served. The quality of the meat was poor as well, the beef had no marbling, the chicken was slimey and filled with fat. The vegetable was good aside from the flies so I give the restaurant one star right there. At the end when we paid they charged us all you can eat, when we only got one round of food. The rude server said we asked for all you can eat but none of us ever stated that. He also used some rude analogy where he said "you don't get a Mercedes Benz by paying for a Volkswagen". We expected to pay for the basic meal which was $17 but we were held hostage to pay for $23 which was the all you can eat meal. read more

Was recommended by a friend to try this hot pot place. It is a run down unsanitary place to eat. From walking through the doors to your table. The table is sticky and doesn't feel clean. The area around and under the stove was unclean. The service was poor. The waitress was not attentive and seemed peeved when asked for extra cutlery. The place has two choices, basic or ayce. They have a preset menu with little variety. They bring you all the food on the menu really quickly without you asking, which in my opinion is a waste because we didn't like everything on the menu. While the food is decent and the all you can eat option with a largish (5+) people can be fun, the drink selection is terrible (bud or bud light). However from my very first encounter the service has ranged from distant to hostile. When we inquired about the difference, we were told to choose the $22 or for $16 we'll get whatever they give us since it's a busy night. Food: The soup base had no flavor. Hot water was added to the pot when the level got low. There were not a lot of vegetable choices (iceberg lettuce, broccoli, napa and spinach). The meat was good not the choices were few as well.
