The specialty cocktails and soup were SO good. Our waiter recommended the Coq Au Vin, and were were blown away with how yummy it was! We also ordered the classic steak frites and just WOW. We had dinner last night a Levant. Excellent experience. The redesign of the restaurant is totally inviting, open, spacious, friendly and welcoming. My dinner companion had the Squid Ink pasta, which she said was the best she has ever eaten. I had the Salade Nicoise with grilled yellow fin tuna. Delicious. Went here early on a Sunday for dinner. Host and waitress were nice and welcoming. Saw they had French Onion Spaghetti which is an interesting combination. It was quite nice. Sometimes French onion soup can be kind of salty but this main dish was not salty. Wasn't too heavy either. Portion wise I would have preferred it to a tad bigger. But overall it was very good. Was looking forward to having dinner here last night but came away very disappointed. Serious sticker shock. The portions except the salad, soup and pasta were rather small and over priced for their size. Our salmon dish looked beautiful (as did all the dishes) but was seriously lacking in flavor. Many of the sides can out cold. The black pasta was a huge disappointment. The coq a vin had great flavor but was barely a leg and thigh. We will not return. read more

Abi, the owner was awesome to work with as we were trying to feed 30 people an early dinner --right after 16 of them had just played a college basketball game. He arranged that we could pre-order one of 4 entrees. The clear favorite was the Hanger Steak with pomme frites! We went to Levant because the menu was very interesting and the reviews were great. Something went wrong on the night we ate there. We started off with your amuse bouche, 4 balls of goat cheese the diameter of a dime and rolled in something that added no taste and they were ice cold, not the temperature where you would serve cheese. Note that we were the only patrons in the restaurant for a good portion of the time. As a 4-top we ordered salmon tartare, waygu steak tartare, grilled octopus and the Levant salad. The salmon tartare was not really fresh and had a fishy taste and the octopus was way underseasoned with large tentacles bordering on being tough. For entrees we ordered steak frites, duck confit, frogs legs and crepe de courgettes. The steak frites were unusual, apparently the kitchen attempted to eliminate the tough sinew that runs through the middle of that cut of beef by butchering it producing a uneven cut of beef which was served with a sauce the consistency of water and very little flavor. I asked the server to substitute mashed potatoes for the frites but fries came on the plate followed by a portion of mashed potatoes a few minutes later. The duck confit was tired from reheating and what should have been a crispy exterior was masked by a sauce. The frog legs were a sorry looking plate, something you might get at a low end lunch place serving buffalo wings. The courgettes had the off putting taste of soap and were uneaten. I really have to question these 5 star reviews as not one of the dishes we ordered could be considered excellent. Garnishes were haphazardly placed on a few plates and presentation, in general, was not up to standards. With regard to service there was a lack of coordination. We were initially served by a woman but in the end we had three people who were bringing plates to our table and the plates never landed together, two plates, then one more and finally the last. I feel the restaurant has potential, very nice atmosphere, nice bar and the walls of wine were a nice touch. I believe the thing that strains the restaurant is the size of the menu, 11 appetizers, 4 salads, 12 entrees. With that size menu, it's difficult to maintain freshness across the spectrum. The night we were there there was only 8 covers but still the kitchen seemed strained. read more

I made reservations for 4 at 4:30 on Sunday the 13th via Yelp. I received two email confirmations, a text, and a text reminder of the reservations. I come from Central New Jersey; the other couple from Staten Island. We arrived at Levant at 4:25 only to find that the restaurant was closed due to some problem in the kitchen. Not once did anyone inform us of the closure. Four people wasted all that time time and energy for nothing. Management at Levant needs to at the very least be courteous to those who make reservations and inform them of closures prior to their arrival/reservation time. Fortunately we found an excellent French restaurant on Atlantic Avenue so the evening was not a waste. But no thanks to Levant. read more
