Fun place! I'd describe it as an inside-out escape room plus scavenger hunt plus art exhibit plus brewery. Two hours flew by for my family! We didnt solve many puzzles but thats ok, the experience was memorable. My 7 year old did great and helped us out, while my teenagers did best on the physical challenges. I'm pretty impressed with the layout and how they designed the activities so that no one group could hog the rooms. The instructions are "light to none" but keep an open mind and roll with it, you'll be fine. Very unique experience that has replay value as well. read more

just now NEW It's a great idea in theory, but not in practice. You pay for either 2 hours, 4 hours or all day passes. There are lots of challenges to complete, however there are so many people in the place you have to stand in line for each challenge, which takes time off your playing time. After waiting in line for the challenges, you walk into the room and if you don't do the correct thing you fail almost right away. You can get "hints" before entering, but even with those we failed almost everything and had to leave the room, and if you want to try again you have to stand in line again. The place is also super dark and the challenge room doors open into where people are walking, so you will get hit by a door when people come out. And a bunch of the challenges and rooms were out of order. For the money spent just go to Dave and Busters next door to play games you actually know how to do and don't have to pay by the hour. Maybe they should limit how many people get in at a time so you can play more things. read more

The trip was horrible for me. Fell flat on my face from the zip line, fell on my back from monkey bars, messed up my hands from many time based activities. If you want to push yourself to do things past your limit that you can't physically do, come here it's great! This was such a fun experience! My boyfriend and I have come here twice and have found new and fun things to explore every time. It's pretty busy on the weekends and filled with a lot of the younger crowd, but then we came again on a Monday morning right when they opened at 11am and it was THE BEST. No wait times for rooms, minimal outside noise so you can communicate really well in the communication-heavy rooms, and so much fun! $30 for 2 hours and $40 for 4 hours. If you get the 2 hours and want to add another hour, it's just an additional $8. We've only spent 2 hours at a time here because it can get pretty tiring since there are a lot of physical-heavy rooms. They have lockers to store things, and water on site as well! They also have food inside, but we never got it because it's a bit pricy. If we were hungry, we stepped out and got a quick bite at the food court across and then came right back. Would definitely recommend anyone to come here - especially weekday mornings if you can! read more

My friend recommended this place and it was so much fun! There are a lot of physical challenges and I would not recommend this place for young children. I took off a star because there were a few we couldn't complete because it required a lot of physical strength and also the system went down twice while we were there so we had to just leave the game and wait. I wish I was told at the front what to expect. The hints are helpful but it's most helpful to enter the game and not move until you figure out what to do because the game ends super quickly if you mess up once. Went to Level 99 for the first time today and had a blast! the challenges were fun, and I enjoyed the Art Hunt too! Place was clean, staff was friendly, loved the locker setup. It was quite busy because it was holiday break, but I would definitely go again! Next time I will have to try food. read more

Had a reservation, entered all player info and signed waivers. Had to still check in on a kiosk that was a nightmare. Had to re enter all the info. Some players had to check in separately even though they were also on the reservation. Not many people around for assistance. Many of the activities out of order. Many rooms gave no instruction so kind of a waste of time especially waiting in lines for every room. They ask for a ton of personal information, not sure why. This place is awesome. Going in didnt know what to expect and its really not described correctly on ads or posts so you think its a bunch of escape rooms. What this place consists of is 40 different themed rooms of skills challenges, could be puzzles, could be physical, could be trivia, could be matching, its a really cool concept and its a neat idea. The place was crowded but there is like 4 minute waits for each room and you have a wrist band to track your progress and its saved within your account. There are times you pick to buy at the start 2 hours or 4, we chose 2 and it was an adequate amount of time to start. The inside is quite large and the rooms each have a screen to tag into the games. There are also physical challenges to get through outside the rooms and also a sort of hunt for objects around the whole place to tag into games. There is a large area for food and drinks, full bar, and also Night Owl brewing is here onsite for after gaming. Prices are decent and the place is really fun! read more

THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG ONE BUT BEAR WITH ME: Overall a fun experience, however I believe there are definitely things Level99 can easily improve that would take it to the next level ;) (pun intended) If you love Boda Borg in Malden, this is definitely a place to try out as there was definitely some inspo taken! Here's what Level 99 gets right: 1. Use of technology is SUPER IMPRESSIVE: love the wristbands and the idea of having a "profile" that saves your progress and encourages you to visit over and over (I don't mind being marketed to) and the arcade vibes takes it beyond a puzzle game. Loving the stats that are always available like you're in a giant video game with a leaderboard! 2. along those lines, the sensors are very good and checking into rooms avoids a lot of the mistakes of boda borg with kids pulling on locked doors, accidentally winning/losing, etc. 3. lots of rooms -- like so many you don't see when you first get there, you can spend so much time here if you have the stamina 4. themes were cute and some have really great designs and atmosphere Here's where I think the experience has its faults: 1. The gem system. SO FRUSTRATING. Level99 has this system where even after you've paid $40, you use this in game "gem" currency to unlock rooms you haven't played yet, with replays free. The idea is that you will gain back those gems and earn even more by succeeding in those rooms. HOWEVER... it's not guaranteed that you'll win the same amount, or ANY gems by completing stars in a room. I think that we could do without the system at all, but if it remains, what would work better is for rewards to correlate more strongly to the achievement in the room, then there's a motivation to replay in order to earn your gems back. Instead, I had like... 8 gems left out of 50 when I left. 2. Further on the gem system lol sorry... the number of gems it takes to unlock a room INCREASES based on how many rooms you've unlocked/your progress or whatever because you're a ~professional~ now which doesn't really make sense. And along with the previous point, this actually sucks because you lose SO many gems with the increase of room cost + the fact that you only get like a coin for hints from winning a room. So basically we're penalized for playing more ?¿? It WOULD make sense if harder rooms costed more gems maybe? 3. (Not total! But enough to be notable) Monotony feel like most rooms fall into three groups: extreme physical challenges, button pushing, or arranging objects in a certain way. I think the creators got pretty ambitious with this "100 room" thing to a point where quantity became prioritized over quality. When I think about Level99 I can hardly remember which rooms or how many I played, much less what my favorites were (hard to identify since many had similar mechanics) I wish there was more story and heart to the rooms! 4. Repetitive tasks. Ok so I'm liking the ability to get different numbers of stars based on how well you perform like a video game. But Please Tell Me Why in order to get three stars I have to do a task 15 times a LARGE number of rooms were set up like this unfortunately. I went into it thinking the star system would be like Boda Borg's room series, only that there would be three different tasks of increasing difficulty within the same room; however, there are actual rooms (I'm thinking of fish catch) when you literally go in and do something over and over until you win. Once you do the whole acrobatics to get over the physical task--great! Now come back. This makes a lot of the challenge rooms more TEDIOUS rather than a challenge. You don't really feel smart or clever or even completely satisfied for finishing a room. *Boda Borg feels more like you have to puzzle through what the room is asking you through trial and error; Level 99 is straight forward with the task, but forces you to fail from lack of stamina. 5. For a game called Level 99 and marketed with a video game sensibility, there is a lack of PROGRESSION. As I said before, love the wristbands, love that you can see room stats and your own personal stats. However, that's really the only way you can progress: once again a reflection of Level 99's obsession with QUANTITY (of rooms, # of times completing the same task, # of times you return to play) When I heard Level 99 saved your progress, I was so excited thinking that completing a room could allow you access to a more difficult room, or maybe a continuation of the story (like Boda Borg but without the hinderance of having to repast the first rooms to get to the last) I think with the superb technology, this would take full advantage of the progress save and the unique individual profiles. 6. Also idk if anyone really does the scavenger hunts I feel like they eat up time LEVEL 99 CAN DEFINITELY REACH LEVEL 99 WITH SOME OF THESE CHANGES! Definitely need to play into their technology and video game atmosphere. read more

This is exactly what we wanted. A mix between a gym and an escape room (Or more like boda borg). We've been back 3 times. We've enjoyed the food. We have replayed the rooms many times, even ones we have 3 star completed. We went as 2 adults, no kids. At 35, we seemed to be amongst the oldest there, on average. It never seems too busy to find something to do. At the busiest, you might have to wait 3 minutes if there was a specific room you wanted to do. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the room is broken in some way, or if you are just bad at it. It's still fun. Dave and busters is next door, which lends to some gaming synergy. In comparison to boda borg, it's very similar and very different. Better in some ways worse in others. Unlike boda, each room is 1 room. So if you fail, it's just that room you are failing (not the third room of a 3 room boda borg). Because the level 99 rooms are often open to the larger level99 floor, it can be a little noisy. But we haven't found that to be an issue except for maybe 2 rooms. Boda borg are often more satisfying to solve, but I don't think I would want to replay most of the boda borg rooms I finished. Level99 rooms are generally more skill based, and can be fun to play again. We had lunch and enjoyed the chicken sandwich with rosemary fries. Another day we ate at the restaurant and had 2 pizzas. We could have easily split one pizza for 2 people (6 slices total per pizza), perhaps with an appetizer. read more

So much fun! Went here for a date night with my husband. Dinner at the attached brewery was delicious with a great craft beer selection. The best way to describe the food would be "comfort food chic" - delicious and familiar but with an upscale twist! The games were great! Each room has a timer for 3 or so minutes, so you never have to wait that long for your next challenge, and if you don't like a particular challenge, you can easily head to the next one. I was skeptical of this place when the sign in process took forever and the rules around "gems" and "coins" were explained. Too complicated! Can't we just play games? But once we got started and got the hang of the system, everyone had a great time. There were 8 of us and we split into groups of 4. The challenges are short and it takes a few tries to get the hang of them but because they're short another group can take their turn and you're only waiting 2 minutes. We were there 2 hours and moving quickly and probably only tried half the rooms. There were some we didn't like and did once, and others we did again and again. We only won 2! But the gem system gives you rewards for almost winning (you can also see your progress) and the coin system allows you to get hints so the room you cannot figure out at all gets a lot easier. And at the end of your session there's a Night Shift Brewing outpost to enjoy. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers unless you plan to avoid the "physical" games. There's a wide range of physical challenge. and plenty of non-physical games. Some are better for 2 players and some are better with 6. I found the pricing to be super reasonable, because if you hustle you can play a LOT of games. I'm hoping to go back soon! read more

Came here with my son, mother, and sister and had a blast. Everyone had a good time from ages 11-46, so fair to say this is a good family place. Really nice place for games and activities, but be careful of the "plank" level, for some reason most of their levels have cushions in case you fall down but the ledge where they ask you to walk off and on wasn't protected and i fell so hard because the plank itself was moving side to side as well as it wobbling. I am in so much pain and my whole leg is swollen. The prices are higher on Sundays, the food is a little pricey for a place like that but its really good quality and kinda worth it. Night Shift was great, both in the beer hall and in the restaurant. I did not try to food at all. My only idea for improvement this time is to make the physical challenges in the back and in the corners. They can be moved. People want more "privacy" while competing. If you're a fan of Boda Borg or escape the room challenges, this place is for you. There are so many rooms and games to try. I loved the decor. The art is beautiful and uses local artists. The games are a good mix of mental and physical. And all of the rooms can be completed by 2-6 players, which makes it a good option for date night. If it's your first time, make sure you have an employee walk you through how to use your wristband, the difference between gems and coins, and some tips for game play. Bad experience. We went there on Wednesday afternoon and had to wait on almost every room. They do not give you the option to understand what the room goal is, only confusing hints are provided. I understand that they want To make it mysterious but at least they could provide an option for people like me who is not very good at solving mystery and still would like to take on physical and mental challenges.
