Very fun place to bring kids ( I would say 10 and under) for a play-date or birthday party! They have an area that has bouncy houses and toys for children that range from baby age to around 10 or so years old. We were here for a little over an hour and the kids had so much fun. We came here on a holiday (Presidents' Day) and the kids had a great time! We had 5 kids- an infant, 2 y.o., 3 y.o., 5 y.o., and an 11 y.o. They all had so much fun! They have a limit on how many families they let in at once which I appreciated. A friend came to meet us and he was 'waitlisted' but it only lasted about 5-10 minutes and he was able to come in. You can enter with your stroller and stay on the gray carpet or use one of theirs which is allowed anywhere in the room. They even had exercise bikes set up for parents to use. They don't work but it's something to do! They also have WiFi. Overall, fun place for kids! I would suggest they put sanitizer pumps all over though. They make every kid sanitize on the way in but there aren't any inside that I saw. Also, I wish there was a Starbucks in this plaza! read more

My kids age 2 and 5 love this place. In fact my son insisted on having his birthday party there last month and it was great. During the winter you have to go early, like when they first open because other wise it can get very busy and you have to wait to get in. The biggest negative is that the the place is freezing cold. The owner obviosly try's to save money and turns the heat off at night. So when they open at 9am ( in January) the huge ware house is below 50 degrees and you and your kids freeze. We were there yesturday and after an hour the thermostats only registered 53 degrees (it's far to big a space heat up fast). Allot people complained but the staff wouldn't turn the heat up. So you had a bunch of kids running around with runny noses spreading germs everywhere. Personally I think this place is better for a private birthday then it is a regular day activity. But if you do go this time of year, dress warm and bring lots of hand wipes. read more

This has quickly become our go-to place for Friday evening fun with our 2-year-old son. There are lots of fun things to keep him (and us) busy. My favorite thing is that parents can go on a lot of the inflatable play areas with the kids. This makes a huge difference with the smaller children because they feel more secure with a parent nearby. And it's also fun for the parents! I mean, who doesn't love going down a giant slide or going through a bouncy obstacle course? There are also lots of toys for the kids to play with. There is a nice adult area with a couch and comfy seats, as well as exercise bikes. The staff is really friendly and you get the impression that they really like kids. The kids love this place. Enough variety for an occasional visit and we always get our money's worth. Nice comfortable area for parents as well as a few exercise bikes if you are so inclined. Someone complained about having to wear socks in their review - thank goodness this place has strict rules in place for people like that that feel they should be able to walk around in bare feet. That's one of the main differences vs their competition - it is really clean. The staff always seems to be friendly and there is ample parking. It gets pretty busy at the weekend but if you are lucky enough to have some time off to go during the week it's a nice relaxed experience. Unlike their competition as well you can walk in anytime (except Sundays). Would be great if they served food (outside of the birthday parties) so the kids could take a break but overall a pretty good place. read more

This place is ok but the thing that really bothered me was the constant signage. It felt everywhere you turned there was one sign or another telling you not to do this or that or clean up after yourselves. I get it, parents come and let their kids pretty much run around while they sit around and it can get messy and disorganized. But that's kids playing for you. The employees sit in the front which is completely apart from the play area and you never see them. If they came around and collected the little stuff (like play food and utensils) once an hour there would be less if a need for signs. It was a very unwelcome feeling. We've used Playtown for 2 parties and been here for several others. The inflatables are nice and age appropriate the kids have fun generally. Birthday parties are not exclusive so you will share with general public. However if a wait list happens your party will always be fully allowed in to the play area. A few video games but I rarely see anyone actually using them. Some downsides overall price, there are other options in the area for the same idea. Add on cost. If anyone in your party needs socks then they can just charge them to your party expense without any agreement. I don't know I've just lost the excitement and enjoyment of this location for a party with so many other options out there. read more

Been here many times with my little one. While the play area is great and spacious, parents very seldom actually monitor their children. While this is not something the management can completely control, there is almost never a staff member in the play area. Staff, quite often, remain at the front desk which is completely closed off from the play room. So they are entirely unaware of anything happening in the play room. My child was hurt once by another child, by accident, but nobody from staff knew until I carried my crying child out the closed door to the front area where the front desk area is. While it is a play at your own risk, there should be some monitoring from the staff to keep parents and children from running out of control. read more

This is a really nice facility. A fantastic place for kids to burn off some energy. It's clean and they emphasize hand sanitization, which I appreciate, especially when surrounded by all the germs that kids carry and pass. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and explained the rules simply and concisely, which was great since our group had three eager three year old kids and one five year old. They also mark all the kids and adults in the party with a uv ink number to make sure that you leave with right kids. Once inside, there is a cubby area for storing shoes and bags and the restrooms (which are also equipped with stools for reaching the sink faucets... thank you!). Everyone who enters is expected to leave their shoes in the cubby area, and wear socks. This is often the rule at these types of indoor facilities and I take no issue with this requirement. There are plenty of different play areas for kids to explore. The inflatables are fantastic, but the kids also enjoyed the giant connect four game, mini playhouses, and play gyms. We nearly had the place to ourselves, which only made the experience better. The few other kids there were well behaved and properly supervised by adults. We will definitely return. My only suggestion would be for them to play music. The hum of the inflatable fans is monotonous white noise. read more

Grandparents for a change of pace this is a great place to take your grandkids on a rainy day and spend hours without anyone getting bored. Very clean and safe yet provides fun challenges to those 18 months to 8 yrs or so. Very reasonable in price for a way to burn off tons of energy. read more

Visited today for the first time with my 2 year old. We loved it! Safe, clean and good customer service.

I visited Playtown Express with my two children for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised at the age range that could enjoy the space as well as the number of options for kids to play on. What I didn't love, and has been mentioned in other reviews, was the lack of staff in the play area. There wasn't anyone monitoring any of the spaces, and some of the larger inflatables have rules and age limits. And not every child is being watched by their parent, so some extra staffing would be helpful to prevent injury. There were also a few areas that had miscellaneous items and extra inflables piled up that kids could actually access. My 2 year old almost ran behind an inflatable at one point and at another was on his way into an area that had a pile of random things and mats. I was with him, so I was able to grab him, but not all parents watch their kids that carefully. If you're going to allow kids to have free reign without any staff monitoring, then you could make sure that kids can't access areas that could be dangerous. The other cons- my friend needed socks and was handed a pair when we went in and they looked used. Ick. And when we went in, I was happy to see that my children and I were all "tagged" with the same number (with invisible ink) so that no one would be able to leave with my children. However, that didn't ultimately matter, because when we left through the main door, no one checked to see if my children belonged to me. In fact, there was not a staff member in sight when we left. So the marking us all up to say we belonged together was all for show. Overall, there are a lot of pros to this place - catering to the age range was the biggest for me, but there were also some cons that would prevent me from going back. With a few tweaks in the staffing, then it would be worth more stars, for sure! read more

Just had my little girl's birthday party here today. Brianna was WONDERFUL!!!! If you do a party, I highly recommend asking for her. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the manager and some of the others seemed difficult when I was initially booking and on subsequent calls. (Perhaps part of their strategy is to set low expectations.) Either way, a great time was had by all. My 2 year old is napping away after appearing to have the time of her life...and mama and daddy are wearing big, big smiles. read more

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. This place is great, I've taken my kids here many times since we moved to the area. My 4 year old son absolutely loves the place, it is such a great spot to let him run around and burn off some of his never ending energy. The last time we were there he bumped heads with another child (typical kid accident, could've happened anywhere) and wound up with a bloody/fat lip. Tracy the manager and her staff were great! I had my daughter birthday on December 15. Once I arrived they just told us to go to a room to put everything. When they were all sitting down on their phone , and not show us were the other room was. After they started to set up I went in to look and the employees literally with an attitude told me that she will call when they were done. Unprofessional. My daughter and I went here for the first time today. We just moved to Ashland so it was less then a ten minute drive, which was great. When we got there we ended up waiting 20 minutes for the woman at the front desk to get off the phone and stop answering the phone. She would hang up with the person and try to talk to me to only have the phone ring two seconds later and answer it. Now, I understand you have to answer the phone but she could have called the person back or put them on hold but instead decided it would be a better idea to leave a costumer waiting with their 4 year old child and talk on the phone to someone about a potential party. (I know there is more money in a party but still poor costumer service skills. You always handle the person physically there first then the phones.) That was handled very poorly and the woman seemed very overwhelmed and unorganized. After we finally were able to get inside we were amazed. The place was very big, clean and the inflatable structures where spaced out well. It was very impressive. My daughter was so excited she didn't know what to go on first. We spent about 3 hours there. We normally go to a place in Maynard called Jamtime which has longer hours and is a little more laid back but it's become too far for us so I was hoping this would be out new go- to. It still might be but the first impression of the staff was not pleasant. The only other issue I had was with a woman telling my daughter the opposite of what I was asking of her. At first I thought it was just an obnoxious mom who was telling all the kids they could do whatever and who would constantly give my daughter conflicting advice after they overheard me telling my daughter to wait or do something specific. I bit my tongue for the most part and would just tell my daughter she had to wait her turn or move out of the way so she wouldn't get hit and that just because this grown up was saying it didn't matter that it actually did to me (she listened to me, her mother, for the most part but was confused with being told something else by someone other than me.) I later find out this woman WORKS there. She never approached me or my child saying she worked there and that was she was speaking to my child about was part of the rules or anything along those lines (which it wasn't apart of any rules that were posted ), it was "No, it's okay. I told her she can do this and she didn't have to wait." or " Go ahead and do xyz" after I said it wasn't alright by me. I was really shocked that she was deliberately telling my child not to listen to my directions. The fact that she was a staff member almost made me ask for the money back on the pass I just bought but I was sure the woman in the front was probably on the phone and wouldn't give me the time of day plus the place itself was unfortunately great. All in all it's a great open area with lots to do and if you can avoid the staff or put up with them undermining your parenting in front of your child then this is the perfect place. :/ read more

My almost-three-year-old and I visited Playtown Express for the first time this week and had a great time! We went on a weekday morning, and got there right at 9am when they were opening. There was just one other family there when we arrived, which was great because it gave the woman at the desk time to walk us through the rules. I had to fill out a brief form before we entered the play space, it only took a few seconds. The cost was $10 for a weekday visit, or you could purchase a 10-visit pass for $80 which I thought was very reasonable! Before entering the playspace, we had to use a hand sanitizer they provided (a God-send in a place filled with germ-coated toddler hands!) and were assigned a number which was written with a blacklight marker on our hands. The first thing that came to mind when the woman opened the door to the playspace was that scene from the Lion King (c'mon, you know the one... and if you're reading reviews on a place like this, you're probably a parent and, well, you get it. Most of our lives are over-saturated with Disney movies.) where Timon and Pumba push apart the leaves to reveal an oasis.... Inflatables, slides, pretend-play areas with stores, ride on toys, obstacle courses, you name it! All in great condition, bright, colorful, and CLEAN! The space was much larger than I had been expecting, almost overwhelming! We ditched our shoes and coats in a cubby by the door as quickly as possible (Thank God for Velcro!) and it was ON. We spent an hour and a half there, running around and having a blast, until my son reached the point of exhaustion, melted down, and we decided to call it a day. Being our first visit, I wasn't aware of the rules and didn't think to bring snacks or anything... next time I will be prepared! They allow you to bring food and drinks to enjoy in the lobby-area outside of the play space (Just nothing with nuts!). My little guy wanted me to play with him most of the time, but for anyone with kids who are a little more independent, there is a nice comfy couch to relax on and even a few adult exercise bikes! I write this review out of Tough Love. The Good: Playtown is a nice, large facility with many nice play options for kids, mostly under 10. There are 6 large inflatable rides/bounce houses. Some jungle gyms for bigger kids and some for small as well as an area for infants. They also have a few arcade games, a couch for some parents to sit and even some recumbent bikes for parents to burn a few calories. They have a party room and offer birthday parties at the facility. All in all a nice place to bring little ones to burn some energy and have fun. The Bad: -Absentee staff. There are typically 3-4 teenage (maybe early 20's, but I doubt it) employees working there. At times, yes its busy and maybe all 3 are needed to get people checked in and out and maintain the party room. But there are slow times and you'll almost never catch a staff member out policing the floor. As with any kid situation some parents feel its ok to drop their kids off and go play with their phone for a few hours. My son is 2, I can't leave his side for a minute lest he get posterized by a pack of sugar high 10 year olds! Lazy parents have to be guilted into doing their job. (I know I've been doing it). There is NO HELP from the staff. I was there today and a couple of ten year olds aimed the roller coaster cars at each other in order to have a demolition derby. Had a toddler stepped in between the oncoming cars they would have been really hurt. I parentally shamed their mother into hoisting her rear off the couch to stop them after about 2 minutes. No help from the staff, they would rather sit at the desk and gossip/flirt. -Maintenance. Most of the rides, gyms appear to be well maintained, but some other components, not so much. We got a 10 visit pass and have been coming pretty much every week since early December. Since we've been coming there has always been a big wet spot near the water fountain. A few weeks later a paper sign was taped on the fountain saying, caution, 'watch your step, fountain leaks.' Its been a full month now and that paper sign is the extent of the repair effort applied by management. So water has been constantly dripping on the carpet for at least a solid month. No chance that you know, MOLD might start to form...?! No plumbers in Southboro? C'mon, they can do better. The Ugly: -Bathrooms. Ok bathrooms at a kiddie place are always rough, but the mens room at Playtown is always nasty. They have a diaper changing table with a changing pad with no cover (complete with stains on it from past diaper changes) and a trash bucket full of used diapers. We always bring little poopy bags to put used diapers in, but not everyone does, so poop soaked diaper smell dominates the whole space. I'm pretty sure something else in the mens room leaks too as the floor is always wet. One simple fix to the diaper bucket would be to do what Petco does, set up a stand with little poopy bags for parents to put the diapers in. That should help with the smell anyway...and how about incentivizing the staff to clean the bathroom at least once during the day?? It smells as though its cleaned weekly. In Summary: We were going to have my son's 3rd birthday there, but will consider other options and play out the string on our multivisit pass. I hope that management takes action on this feedback. I would love to be a regular customer. read more

Lots of options for activities. My main complaint is that toys like cars are broken and have been for months and toys for the little town are broken or immensely dirty. While I like the area created for my toddler, the majority of other parents present let their much older kids play there and simply do not watch their children. read more

I have always enjoyed a good indoor playground, and the one in this location previously was OK. Playtown Express is AWESOME though. It has huge inflatables and lots of things for both my kids to do. I really like the massive slide myself, and like that I can do stuff WITH my kids. read more

Great place. They have plenty of room for small and bigger kids. Gets very busy so I would recommend coming when they open if you have smaller kids. Socks have to be worn at all times to keep children from slipping on the equipment and for hygiene. If you forget your socks they charge a very small price to purchase some. We just had our four year old twins birthday party there this weekend. We chose this location because it has something for everyone and my children aren't fans of bouncy houses while their friends are, so they were able to enjoy the little houses and climbing towers. But after this experience, I can say we won't be booking another party there again. Firstly, their website is misleading when they list what they supply. To say they provide "cake and food plates" made me think they provided the cake, especially since I was only told to bring a cake cutter and candles. I am an organized person, and pretty much freaked out when told 15 minutes before cake time that they didn't provide a cake. Luckily my parents were able to go and get one, but seriously, they should change the wording to "plates provided" to avoid confusion, or provide a cake given the price you pay. Also, there were supposed to be two assistants for the party, but I would never know it, as they were nowhere to be seen in the play space, we had to go looking for our tokens halfway through the party, cut the cake and serve it ourselves plus bring the gifts to the car. They never even gave us the utensils they were supposed to provide, luckily I had some that I brought for the adults. The only time I saw the assistants was when they were sitting in another room on their cell phones, and couldn't be bothered by us. Prepare to do the work on your own if you have a party here, plus pay a lot of money. I'll be seeking out a different venue for next year. read more
