This was my first time at Lexington Comic Con and I'm not sure if I am disappointed or not. A big group of my friends wanted to go so I was not going to be the odd one out so I bought a ticket for it. The vendors are the exact same at every other convention. It gets very repetitive to Funko Pops, tee-shirts and foam weapons at every turn. What really impressed me was the lineup of celebrities. It seemed like someone was there that everyone wanted to see. The most popular (in my opinion) were the actors from the office, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tom Kenny. I did not have this issue because I only met one person was the pricing and form of payment for the celebrities were inconsistent. Some people would want cash only, some accepted card, some wanted VENMO, it was just a little confusing. Also the prices online were not the same in person. I did have a good time at this con but if it wasn't for the good lineup, I would not have enjoyed it as much. It gives you something to do so if you're interested, try it out.

This was our first time attending the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention, and I can't say that I'm disappointed. We found out about this con when they were advertising themselves at Louisville's Supercon. I had a pretty fun time here. The thing is, is that it's all the same stuff I've seen before; I can only go through so many vendors of Funko Pops and stuff until it starts to feel repetitive. But I still did find some really cool and unique stuff for sale. The most impressive thing they had to offer was their lineup of celebrity meet and greets. Kel Mitchell, 4 actors from The Office, and freaking Tom Kenny...It was awesome. What I was not so impressed with was a few different aspects of organization. Some were cash only, some you could pay with card, some they could try with Venmo while others had never even heard of the app. And what really sucked is that unless there was a volunteer at the beginning of the line, you would have no idea until you got all the way up there. It was also very hard to tell the specific times that they were at their booths. It was basically like you just had to get lucky that they would be there. The pricing was also super inconsistent. Online it would say a certain meet and greet was $50, then at the event it would jump up to $70, THEN it would change to $40... I didn't quite understand that. The space it was held it was very large and nice. I liked how they had a shorter time period option that ended up being cheaper. Plus, they even let us in a little early. This con is not too bad. Not the best I've been to but most certainly not the worst.

I am not a comic/anime/toy person, so I am on the fence as to whether or not this was a disappointing convention or not. This was my first official comic convention, along with my husband and our two year-old. We went on Sunday, the last day of the convention. Not only had we received tickets for Sunday, but it was also "family day" and children under ten were free. We decided to make it a family trip and see how our son would do at such an event. We had anticipated large crowds, so we arrived around 9:30, before it was open to the public at 10am. We had no issue finding parking at the Rupp parking lot across the street, and although there were a lot of people waiting, the crowd wasn't ridiculous. We were able to walk around inside the convention center before the doors to the convention were open for the public. There were are a lot of venders in several different ballrooms: a LOT of artists and toy collectors and authors and other random things. While some tables had some free things to give to children (my son was soooo excited when he was given a Green Lantern ball), there weren't a lot of freebies. Definitely a lot of neat toys, artwork, and handcrafted items on sale, though. I also ended up buying a couple books from a local author (and have already read and enjoyed them)! I had an expectation that there would be more pamphlets and freebies. I've been to other conventions where every table had something to give us. I guess that's not how it works in the comic/toy world. All the celebrities were in Rupp Arena. Neither of us wanted to spend money or wait in long lines to meet a person, but we delighted in walking around Rupp and getting a glimpse of some people (and the crazy lines to meet them)! I mean, how often do you get to be in the same room as Oscar, Meredith, Creed, and Stanley!? My husband did, however, wait in a shorter line to meet Kane, one of his favorite wrestlers. We had finished looking at everything around 1pm (with a break for lunch from Arby's in the downstairs area). So, about three to four hours of walking around the convention was enough for us. I'm not sure whether this meant the convention was too small or just right. Overall, not a bad experience. Just not my scene, but it was fun to go!

This is my first year to attend the lex toy and comic con. I had a good time. I met James Marsters. I also wanted to meet Henry Winkler, Eliza Dushku, but I didn't want to wait in the lines on Saturday. I am telling you, the VIP Friday is the way to go. The lined are not nearly as bad on friday as they are on Saturday. The crowds on Saturday are filled with people with children, large folks that don't understand the purpose of deodorant and young virgins pretending they have touched a Boob. Overall. I've had a good time. I could do without the crowds.

I'll start by saying I didn't know what to expect as this was my 1st ComicCon. I really enjoyed the event even though most of it was lost on me. I LOVED all the costumes even if I didn't know what most of them were! I really wanted to see the Cosplay costume contest but the line was really long so I settled for just checking out the costumes as we walked around. There were lots of vendors selling a variety of toys, comics, prints, costume accessories. I saw so many of the toys from my childhood and it made me wish I had kept more of mine (and not taken them out of the boxes). The highlight of the toys was seeing a Castle Grayskull that a guy had purchased at the show. That one really took me back to the 80's! There were also several different vendors who had videos games for sale. I purchased 2 NES games that I didn't have yet (Mario Brothers Arcade Classic and Spy vs Spy). We didn't go for any of the special guests but it was really cool to see how many were there. This was a great event and I'm definitely glad we went. A big thanks to YELP for hooking us up for Lexington's ComicCon!

I had a great time at this event and was so happy that I was able to check it out. I have never been to one of these conventions so it was really interesting to see all the costumes and just see what it was all about. I'm not familiar with a lot of the celebrities there but I was so giddy and excited to see my childhood crush as one of the celebrities that you could meet and take a photo with (Thomas Ian Nicholas). I can only imagine how fun it is if you know a lot of the celebrities there. We also got a glimpse of Chuck Norris but you couldn't get up to close unless you paid for an autograph or photo. There were tons of vendors and I just enjoyed walking around and seeing everything. Thanks Yelp for a fun afternoon!

I came here with my husband this year for the second year in a row, and also on the same day we came last year. This is a really fun convention to come to in Lexington. I am 100% sure that my husband and I will keep coming back here.

Let me start by saying this is not a typical event that I would attend but my son saw advertisements about it and We decided to go. I must say that I'm glad we went and just wish I would have taken more pictures. The amount of things and people that were there was crazy. They had comics, toys, pictures, paintings, wood crafts, cards, celebrities and a lot more. The event was pretty well organized for 1st timers like us and everyone working was very helpful even if they didn't know some of the questions. The arena had all types of celebrities from comics to tv shows that you could get autographs or pictures with or just stand in line to shake their hand. It was a lot going on and you could have spent hours just walking around and looking at everything. I would definitely go back next year.

How bad the lines could have been!

Huge thanks to Yelp for sponsoring my first time ever at a comic convention of any sort! Even though I perused the website quite a bit, I still didn't know quite what to expect when I got there. My little group showed up in the afternoon on Sunday which was probably a good choice for us as newbies even though we may have missed some cool happenings on the other days... I'll never know - haha! We saw remnants of the queuing system and it looked as bad as what you would see at an amusement park in the summer. At this point, there were no lines at all to get in, so that probably made my first experience less stressful than it could have been. Parking was close by for a fee, of course. But that's probably the best you could find with so many people excited to be at this event. And it was quite interesting to see the variety of people that were drawn to this event. So cool to see so many fanatics! We didn't see a map of the event right away, so we just wandered around and tried to figure it out. We found the vendor section near ticketing easily and checked out all the fun stuff for sale - anything and everything you could think of to play with and then some! I purchased some fun handmade soaps in different horror movie styles. Loved it! We wandered down to the much larger vendor area and didn't end up having enough time to see everything. So many amazing artists and fun doodads of all sorts. We wandered into the celebrity area and had no clue what we were supposed to do until we just decided to ask. Lots of fun celebrities available to meet and greet and you could get their signatures - for a fee. It was cool to see them up close and personal. Admittedly, I didn't know who some of them were, but now I do and that's pretty cool! There were also photo ops which were set up and that was a great idea but I missed my chance at a photo op with Chuck Norris since it had sold out! It could definitely get expensive trying to get signatures from and photos with all of the celebrities, though. Haha! I don't know how any other events are run, but I think I've seen other places on YouTube and things seem way more serious in those larger cities! I'd like to have seen more serious cosplay and props or things that are used in the comics and movies or something along those lines rather than just so much to buy. All in all, it was a great setup and they did a great job with the event.

This is a Geekfest Galore and I loved it. I have to say I let my Nerd Flag fly here and had no shame. If you have every collect comics, bought toys, or watched sci fi shows/cartoons, then this is the place for you. There is so many vendors and booths here that anyone will find something the like or are interested in. Even if you don't like any of that stuff you can sure do some great people watching here. There were many people who attended this event that were dressed up like their favorite characters from comics or horror movies. Secretly that was the best part of all. I think I had more pictures taken with fans than I had taken with the actors and artists that were actually a part of the comic con. Me taking pictures like a tourist in an amusement park loved the photo ops available here with different cos plays and just scenes set up. So good. There are so many famous Science Fiction actors/actresses here to meet and greet. They are all happy to chat with their fans and give photo opportunities while signing random collectible items. That was very impressive. They all were so warm and welcoming. This event is also a good place to discover talent, games, or comics. Many new and upcoming artists were showing off their upcoming projects and ventures. Its kind of a behind the scenes of what is to come. I love it. Now for them to earn my last star... They really need to do something with the ticket situation. I had received 2 day passes from Yelp Lexington for my Nerd Army List. So I had tickets in my hot little hand when I arrived. Then when I went to the designated floor to get my bracelet, there was a 2 hour wait. WTF? All the people in line already had tickets and still needed 2 hours or more to get through. How the heck is that possible? These people need to stream line this process some way. Taking the ticket and getting a bracelet isn't that hard. They don't look up names. They don't make you pay when you already have tickets. They literally just give you a bracelet. Why did it take so long. It isn't rocket science. It also isn't like they had the olds putting the bracelets on you. They only let the olds scream at folks to get in line and not cut line (which I may have done). Also food options were few. They had one little concession stand like we were at a high school basketball game. Step it up RUP. With that many people in the building, it was so hot in there. It was like I was participating in a Hell Simulator and with all the folks dressed up, it was hard to deny. All and all, it was well worth going and so glad I did. FUN TIMES! Might have to get VIP next year so as not to worry with the stupid endless lines.

This was the first ComiCon that I had ever attended, and I had a complete blast. I ended up buying VIP tickets last year, and I must admit that they were totally worth it. We were able to gain access to the con Friday evening from 6-10p, which allowed for first dibs on a lot of goods and interactions with the celebrity guests. For example, I was able to chat with the immensely talented artist Stuart Sayger for about 45 minutes and found that he brought one print with him that he did of Metroid which I immediately purchased, and I spent about 20 minutes talking with Gigi Edgley (Chiana from Farscape) about everything from the show to herself and to what I like doing. It was quite fantastic. The VIP tickets also allowed for one hour early access on Saturday and Sunday. Aside from the VIP perks, the con was full of geeky goodness: Cosplay, Marvel, DC, Power Rangers, He-Man, autographed goods, toys, memorabilia, replicas, hand made items, and tons more. If you get a chance to check this out next year, give it a try. I'm certain that you will have a lot of fun.

Has anyone experienced bringing a toddler? Tips?

Bring a stroller and lots of snacks. But otherwise, they will have as much fun as you will. Just make sure to keep any toys clipped to their person, as it's pretty easy to lose things at the convention center.

Per their website, every piece must be original and made by the artist, who's present at the show. They don't allow MLM products or vendors selling soaps, lotions, or candles, which makes it feel more like an actual art fair. No shade to candlemakers. There's a great selection of food trucks and drinks, including beer, cider, wine, mead, and non-alcoholic options. I appreciated how the beverage vendors were spaced out throughout the event. It made getting a drink easy and convenient. It's a huge fair with hundreds of booths. I ate the mac & cheese bowl from a BBQ food truck. It was tasty but lukewarm. There's a wide selection of food, and if you like tacos and pizza there's vendors upon vendors for you. We did get to try some pretty unique things, with Turkish coffee being at the top of this list. It was really neat seeing them warm it up in the hot sand. My husband said it was a really unique drink. We also got to try some pho, some Cajun food, barbecue, nachos, and more. The festival was well-run and well-organized. The app made it easy to track how many crave-bucks you had left. The parking situation was intuitive and ran smoothly, making it easy to get in and out. Great job to the organizers, I hope to come back next year!

Good local food, live music & August Saturdays in Lexington? I'm definitely a fan…read more I'd heard from friends that Crave is a super fun event and I'm glad it worked out with my schedule this year that I was finally able to go! Out at Masterson Station, parking is free, but it is $8 for admission which I thought was a little steep for this event. Granted there was live music and games for kids set up- I think even paying 4 or 5 dollars would seem more reasonable to me. We were given a map of the festival with our tickets which listed all the events for both days and showed the general areas (zone 1, zone 2, etc) in which the different food vendors were located. In order to get food from the festival you need to buy crave dollars which are dollar for dollar. The booth suggest that each adult would need about $30, but my boyfriend and I had more than enough food for $15 each. We did a lap around the fairgrounds first to survey our options & see what there was to avoid making any hasty decisions. I realize this sounds obvious but I really liked how you were able to sample a lot of different foods from a variety of places. Especially if you come with an eating-partner, you can get a lot of things and split them to really increase the items you're able to try. Loved this event and think it will continue to grow every year! One thing I'd like to see is more stations for water as it was pretty hot out- I only saw one ant it was when we were leaving. I would suggest doing what we did to avoid long lines and crowds- make it a lunch/dinner and go around 3:30/4- by the time we left at 7 it was getting crazy packed. All in all a very fun time!

I even had an official come and speak to me because he saw me taking a picture of how understaffed a beer tent was. He started on the whole, "We can't hire help. Biden is paying people more to stay home." Meanwhile, he was not lifting a finger to help the people working the beer tent. I made a comment that he should be absolutely embarrassed that welfare pays more than he is. Either way, I was already sour, and I didn't need someone in my ear. We arrived to the shuttle pickup at Rupp Arena on Saturday afternoon and had to wait for over an hour to board the bus. Once we get to Railbird, I asked if there is a shuttle for ADA needs, and they said they didn't have one, so my girlfriend with ADA needs had to walk up the hill while pushing her scooter, etc. The ADA sections at the stages were fairly small. If they were full, then you were out of luck. We only got to sit in one ADA section for one concert all weekend. Only at the end of the day on Sunday did someone say that they had shuttles for ADA guests. Prior to that, everyone said it didn't exist. But even so, there weren't any available. I would like to note... - The music was awesome. My Morning Jacket absolutely crushed it. Dave Matthews, Jason Isbell, the Black Pumas, Magnolia Boulevard... They were all amazing. The music and the concerts generally didn't disappoint at all. - The people working the tents for food and drinks worked their butts off and I am proud of them. I feel really bad for them because the Railbird leadership failed them on Saturday in every way imaginable. - Sunday was much better. Lines were shorter, there was greater water access, etc. Whatever Railbird did differently on Sunday, they should have been doing all weekend. But they didn't. Instead, they actively chose to screw people that paid them several hundred bucks. Ordinarily, I wouldn't give a low rating for logistical issues, but these were so bad that they actually were immoral and dangerous. People were having medical emergencies because they were having to stand out in the heat without water for so long. If Railbird wants me or anyone else to come back, then they have got to reassure us that they've made every conceivable effort to keep their guests safe. If they don't, then forget it. I have to admit that upon hearing the name of this festival, I had no interest in attending. I…read moreactually thought it was going to be literally a sandwich on a lawn with old men aka "POPS". Please note, this is not the case. Picnic With The Pops is a two night event that takes place every year inside Keeneland. You can buy general admission aka picnic blanket seating or you may purchase tables that seat up to 8 people. Either way you can hear and see the stage with ease from any location on the lawn. It is great for young and old alike. The festival features the Lexington Philharmonic and a random guest(s). This year happened to feature Wycliffe Gordon and the theme was "Night on Bourbon Street". Why does the theme matter, you ask? Well, my kiddies, besides the tone of the music provided for the evening there is a table decorating contest based off this theme. This table decorating thing was serious. People brought in props and decorations and lavish place sittings. Just to deck out their table to be the chosen one. I was really impressed. There was even a table bribing people with voodoo cookies. Bribes I say, just kidding. The cookie was yummy. The winning 3 tables get their names announced and received a prize. This being a picnic wouldn't be legit without food and drink. The event provided a food truck and some drink vendors, but you were encouraged to BYOB. For those of you who aren't familiar with that term, BYOB is Bring Your Own Booze or Juice as I like to say. Some people even opted to have their night catered. I went as a guest at the Yelp table. I was fortunate enough to have Lyles BBQ cater for us. Chandler brought the food piping hot to our table and wished us a good evening before disappearing into the night. I would really recommend them for catering any event. A few other things to note...You can't get into the parking area without your ticket in your hot little hands, but the ticket takers will allow you to pull to the side and wait for your party. The next thing which I found awsome, the Boy Scouts and their little red wagons unloaded and delivered the coolers and decorations to the tables/area. How awsome is that? The Boy Scouts! They didn't even get a badge for it. Hats off to them for sure. So if you like music and food while surround by friends and fun, get tickets next time you see them go on sale. It was a great time and great festival. I will more than likely attend again.
