Keys would play once and then not again because the hammers were not properly returning and of course it was out of tune after standing unused for a long time and then being moved. The piano moving company recommended someone to repair and tune it. He arrived and almost immediately told me I would have to replace almost all the inside workings at a cost of more than $500, possibly a lot more. I decided against the repair as it could easily have cost more than the value of the piano. I waited several months and decided to bring in someone for a second opinion, which is when I found Randy Prentice. After looking it over, he told me I likely did not need to replace anything, and it was hopefully just in need of lubricating. After about two and a half hours of intensive work and tuning, the piano has recovered nicely. It is playable and in tune again, and got there with a very fair price (nowhere near the $500+ I was quoted previously). I highly recommend Randy's services!

Some time later we noticed sticking keys and contacted Mr. Ramsey to come out and repair the sticking keys. 3 emails, no response. We turned instead to Daniel Ley piano. Mr. Ley was very responsive, came after a short period, and repaired the piano. One year later Mr. Ramsey emailed us to confirm he would be tuning our piano the following week. We literally had not heard from him for two years. Needless to say we informed him we were working with Mr. Ley and would not need his services. His response was indignation that we would choose an alternative service, despite his inability to respond to previous emails. The result: a confusing and not particularly positive experience for us.

I had a couple of guitars that needed set-up adjustments but Rainbow was backed out for weeks so I…read morepaid a visit to JFL. The owner/operator, "Rick," seemed very knowledgeable so I asked him to do a set-up on my Anderson "Crowdster II." Sweet! So then I shuffled off my 20-year-old ES-335 to him that needed the action adjusted and pickups balanced. Sounds sweet and balanced now and plays like a dream. Finally, I had a slight intonation problem on my Martin 000-28 so I asked Rick if JFL would fix that which he did with a little bridge work and a neck adjustment. The intonation is near perfect now and the action plays great. As far as I could tell, I don't think JFL has the capabilities to do things like a neck reset but if you need a quick turnaround on a set-up, a fret job, etc, and don't want to mess it up, give JFL a call!!
