"We tip 20% here". I've been coming here for years and never again. My husband and I went in for a couples massage and it was actually the worst massage I've ever had. We've been here dozens of times and have always been satisfied - and ALWAYS tipped 20%. This was the first time I ever tipped anything lower, and it was 17% - which is pretty generous considering I should have tipped nothing. The masseuse had a cold and was breathing heavily right by my ear and sniveling the whole time. It was so gross, that halfway through when both masseuses left the room (for a rather long time - which happened multiple times) I asked my husband if we could just leave. We stayed and I regret doing so. The masseuse had such a terrible technique, it was like he was chopping vegetables as fast as possible on my back. He didn't listen to the focus areas I wanted, and I was just so uncomfortable and skeeved out by him. Instead of the lady at the front desk asking if anything was wrong with the massage, she was visibly annoyed that we only gave a 17% tip, and gave me the dirtiest look. What poor customer service. If she had bothered asking and apologized for the experience, I wouldn't have written this and would have considered going back. But I guess they'd rather have no business at all from us. That's fine. Side note for anyone in the couple's room - I've always been suspicious that in the corner of the room where the ceiling meets the walls, there is a sizable hole. I try to turn away from it because I've always wondered if there is some kind of recording device up there. Why would you have a hole in that specific spot of the ceiling? The kicker- after paying with a card, I was asked for a tip. I mentioned I would leave cash. After leaving a tip, one lady counted it and told me it was not enough- that I had to tip 20%. Annoyed, I grabbed my money and decided I was keeping my money. I started to walk out and said tips are optional. She would not let it rest and argued with me that I HAD to tip 20%. I went because of the amazing reviews, but this was the most underwhelming massage I have ever gotten for $200. The front desk and staff are incredibly sweet, but the service itself was so lackluster. I booked a lymphatic massage thinking it was a manual one like I normally get at every other place I have been. But they explained that they don't do it manually, instead they use these handheld machines. I thought why not, it's something new and I'm already here. I walked into my massage room and the lights were not dim, and there was zero music playing. It was such an awkward massage- the lymphatic massage is basically metal handheld machines being rubbed over your body with minimal lotion, so it's uncomfortably dragging against your skin. It was a 60 minute session, but about 10 minutes of it is the masseuse shuffling around you and in the drawers trying to reset the machines for every section of the body. They are also comedically loud and take away from any relaxing experience. Usually when I get a $120 lymphatic massage, people throw in a quick massage of your troubled area. But they told me 30 minutes of shoulders is an extra $50 - so I did it to make it worth my while, since the lymphatic massage was not relaxing by any means. Again, minimal lotion was used so it was just an uncomfortable 30 minutes of her unsuccessfully trying to get out my knots. I also did not see or hear them clean the machines after. I wanted to like this place so bad because of the reviews, and how sweet the staff was. But I definitely don't see myself coming back. read more

The pressure for me was too hard, the person performing my massage couldn't understand me. Upon checkout, we were asked what type of tip we wanted to leave, when my husband responded with a 15% amount he was told it's 20% customary and if that was OK. Based on our experience, his response was no. In addition, they charge a credit card processing fee, both is a bit steep . This was my first time here but I've driven past this place more times than I can count but had no idea. When we arrived we checked in with the receptionist where we quickly found out that they forgot to put us on the schedule. However, the receptionist was very apologetic and remorseful. I've been going to Li Massage for over 3 years and if you read my review, dated 12/18/2022, I pretty much summed it up back then. Today, 12/1/2024, I just came from my third massage with Selena and she is arguably the best massage therapist I've had (and I've had some real good ones at Li Massage). But we'll get to that in a moment. First, the reception area is always clean and tidy and very welcoming. Next, the rooms are clean and sanitary and tables are set up with clean linen and ready for clients. On colder mornings, the table heaters are turned on prior to arrival so clients are comfortable. Next, they use soft warm blankets instead of cold sheets to cover your body. It's obvious Mrs. Li is thinking of how to make her clients feel as comfortable as possible so they have an enjoyable experience. I speak a little Mandarin but I take my phone in with me and I use Google Translate to communicate with Selena so she knows exactly where my trouble areas are. She is very willing to accommodate my needs withing her 90 minute massage routine. Selena is methodical and patient and I can tell she loves helping people feel better. Selena is very professional, as are all the therapists at Li Massage that have been tasked with relieving my aches and pains. Mrs. Li, the owner/manager, is a friendly and professional business woman who is very accommodating and the standard she set for her staff is excellent service. I lean more towards good than opportunity but overall it is a decent spot. The pros: weekdays and weekends there are always plenty of spots available, you can call ahead, they offer a wide range of services, the environment is mellow and free of any outside sides and it is very clean. The workers are also very friendly. The cons: the prices seem to change with each visit even for the same services. One week it will be 60 the next it will be 90 but the don't have a great system of showing the cost of each service (all done by hand no computers). Additionally, while I always tip at least 15-20%, it is quite awkward that they wait for you to hand it to them (most places I've been have a little envelope for that). I am totally cool with language barriers and finding new ways to communicate, but make sure that you really make sure you're getting what you want. Be careful coming here. This was my second time. First massage was fine - not the best, not the worst. But the 2nd time I came in with my Fiancé and both had the worse massages of our lives. I asked for a regular Swedish style massage and my fiancé wanted a deep tissue massage. My massage: approximately 30 minutes was spent on my hour massage, she missed my neck entirely and spent 30 minutes braiding my hair, which I did not ask for nor thought was warranted as I came for a massage not a hair styling appointment. My fiancé's massage: he asked for concentration on his lower back due to pain. Not only did she massage the wrong area, when he showed her where the pain was, she still didn't focus on the right area. Incredibly weird and disappointing experience. Signed up for body massage ($70 treatment + $20 tip we HAD TO PAY upfront), were put in a room right next to their break room, where the other massage therapists wormed up their food in the microwave (open/close/timer), ate and chatted, which of course is normal, but not when the client is trying to "relax" next door. I have been here a few times and always liked my massage. But this past time, the guy at the front desk just rubbed me the wrong way because he gave me so much attitude. Let me explain. I asked for a topical salve for some aches and pains and it started burning me when It was applied so I told the masseuse it was an allergic reaction and he wiped it off. When I went to pay, the guy at the front desk didnt believe me and gave me attitude for it claiming they used half the jar. He was a total jerk about it. Why would I lie about something like that? Then he told me that they usually apply the topical salve to a small area to test it first. I said he didnt do that. He just brushed off my concern and still charged me for it. I thought that experience was pretty ridiculous because again, why would I lie about something like that? I was looking around Ventura County for something that was a happy middle ground of high quality and affordable. I'm not a massage connoisseur but I at least know what I like and don't like. And I like Li Massage lol. I came out of Li Massage floating. ^.^ The massage: I did the facial massage package. Michael was my therapist and he was very kind and knew what he was doing. I'm fairly sensitive to pressure so I don't like someone drilling into and Michael was a great balance of not too soft but not too hard I cry inside. He would also check in from time to time if I was doing ok. He pressed in all the right areas and knew where my knots were. The entire time I was just smiling and possibly drooling at on point. I definitely think the facial massage is a really nice package that gives you a little of everything at a fair price. People want to be pampered but not everyone can break bank and go to Burke Williams. And to be honest I tried BW once, was super excited just to experience a standard massage for the cost of a house. Li Massage definitely tops BW in my book. Customer Service: I skimmed through reviews and it's unfortunate that people had a poor experience because I do think this place is worth a try. I will say that it does seem family run and owned meaning customer service and professionalism might look a little different. I was greeted by a young man who lead me inside and pointed to a room and left. It was my first time and I had no idea what I was suppose to do. It would've been nice to have the package explained to me or at least let me know if the therapist will knock or give me time to undress before jumping into it. People have noted a poor tipping experience as well. When I finished my massage it was the owner who was managing the front this time. She didn't hassle me with tip and I gladly tipped 20% regardless. There was also a woman who was paying for her massage when I entered and she tipped under 12% of her bill but the young man didn't hassle her either. There are shared massage spaces and private rooms. All the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is super clean and easy to access. I give this business 5 stars all the way. Not only are they friendly and welcoming, this is the best massage I have ever had. The rooms are super clean, comfortable and have a nice calm vibe. I had some lower back pain and my friend recommended Li Massage. I looked them up and was pleasantly surprised with their pricing! I originally was going to do the 30 min $40 massage but the owner let me know that for $20 more, I could get a full hour. That sounded perfect to me and I'm so happy she let me know. All I can say is that Michael was amazing!!!!! All the tension, knots and pain in my back, neck & shoulders is gone.
