Brian was phenomenal! His knowledge of the Lake is vast, and he has a gift for communicating in a way that is educational, fun and engaging! It's as if he's been doing this forever, and gave us a perspective on Winnipesaukee that was multi-faceted...taking in points of environmental interest such as loons and an actual volcano, human interest, such as celebrity residents, all the while cleverly weaving in the rich history of the lake, including a very heartwarming story of a young Native American man and his lovely bride to be. It was as if he was introducing the lake like an old friend. Brian is seasoned and at the same time humorous. We enthusiastically recommend this cruise. We loved it!

And even though there was a fairly stiff breeze blowing up some chop, the Millie B just plowed through it all. Just be aware that getting wet is all part of the trip.... I want to do it again! The NH Boat Museum is still housed in its location on Center Street, and you can see how great it will be when they move into their new spot in a couple of years - hopefully. Be sure you watch the historic video before going through the museum itself so you get a better sense for the things that you'll see. This isn't a big museum, and if you don't appreciate the historical significance of these boats and life in the Lakes Region, then you probably won't enjoy the 5 minutes that you'll spend walking through the exhibit. My wife and I savored each boat and read all of the documentation, and really enjoyed it.

It was a very congenial group, and the staff who assisted were also warm and welcoming. After a short talk about the traditional ways of making the snow snakes, there was information on the current plans to include other Native bands in competitive games in early 2023. Everyone in the workshop was invited to sign up for the online newsletter so they would know when it was happening. It was an enjoyable and informative 2 hours!

It's an oasis of green trees, bushes, and grasses dotted with the most beautiful variety of flowers. There's classic statuary, stone walls, an artists cabin, scattered chairs and benches, the stately old home and, of course, marvelous views of the calm Salmon Falls River. If you look closely, you might spot a heron or several turtles coming out of the mud, marching slowly toward the tidal waters as the river's edge fills back in. You can even access Vaughan Woods from a footpath, if you'd like to get a hike in. Of course, you can always bring a blanket, a picnic, and just enjoy the gorgeousness that surrounds you. Bathroom situation: in season there's a wee house-type structure that opens into a single, large bathroom. It appears to be cleaned and stocked regularly.

There are exhibits on several floors and visitors get to prowl around on their own as they checkout the stuff. In one end of the Museum is a research library that is chock full of original NH documents, books, records, letters and so forth - all available to the public. The library staff are extremely friendly and helpful. All in all this is a very worthwhile stop! A WORD OF WARNING: the Museum sits close to the State House and if our legislators happen to be at "work" they sure make it hard to find a parking space!

Afterwards, you can visit downtown Concord with some nice quaint stores. Plus, the state capitol is just across the street. We just had bagel sandwiches for lunch down the street at the Works Bakery Cafe. I tried a honey bear smoothie which was especially good. Then, you can stop by the LL Bean factory store not too far away.

There is a (free) train museum on the grounds that has many interesting artifacts and a working model train. There is also a diner that has snacks available for purchase. The best part of Silver Lake Railroad is that it operates on donation only...so it is very affordable for a family to enjoy this excursion.
