Thought I'd give Liberty a shot selling gold coins after another shop in town failed to reply to my emails on two separate occasions. I'm glad I did. Holly and the owner were outstanding in their friendly reception and efficiency. What really made the transaction stress free was all the technology they had at their disposal - especially the counting. Also, the store did not feel like a prison. I needed to sell some investment grade gold and silver coins. I was expecting to have to sell them over the internet to get anything close to spot prices. There are so many "I buy gold" places out there and between those and pawn shops I was expecting to get a low-ball quote. To my surprise, Liberty Coin offered very close to spot metal pricing and wrote a detailed offer which we ended up accepting. Some coins were worth slightly more or less, based on their popularity. They were pretty busy on a Thursday morning but have a big staff and got to us quickly. The gal who wrote us up worked efficiently and knew exactly where to look for the various market prices she needed to find. We didn't need to sell any jewelry, but I expect they would pay you what the metal was actually worth. If you feel it's worth more as jewelry, you might be disappointed.. To top it all off, they had an in-house barista making espresso drinks and fruit smoothies for customers, all completely complementary. Had a great experience at the Liberty Coin & Currency in Vancouver yesterday. We went in for the first time with some of my mom's old jewelry to sell and we found the store very clean, well-laid out, and most importantly, safe. Bob and his brother were very welcoming, explained every step of the process, were upfront about pricing, and tested anything not readily-identified in front of us. It was quite the education, and we were surprised to walk away with much more money than expected. The offer was clear and there was no pressure to accept, but we gladly did. We went into Liberty Coin looking for a proof-set from a particular year. They didn't have it (although I was told on the phone they did). So we asked if they had ANY coin for that year - the associate behind the counter said NO. We perused the items in the glass case & found SEVERAL coins from that year. The sales associate couldn't be bothered with us. He was so distracted the whole time. He left us immediately, not at all interested in making a sale I guess. I have visited the new store at 8555 SW Canyon Rd several times. It seems as though I am interrupting them when I walk in. Several folks at desks with computers and no one to greet you. When silver prices are high they have plenty to sell you. When silver dips as in this instance they display little or none. Justin finally asked if he could help me. I expressed an interest in "junk silver" and he laughed at me. We talked about price/availability and a possible order that he could not give a definite delivery date for. Then he told me about the stuff he had on Ebay and how many times face value it is going above actual price. I came home and sure enough they had plenty of junk silver to sell at premium prices on Ebay but had no inventory in the store. I will never do business with these shady people. Nice store, and people will help you. I'm sort of a show dealer, so often make the rounds of the local stores, and know probably more about type coins than most dealers. Selling to them isn't easy though, last coin I brought in was a nice 1909-S VDB, they had three people look at it and decided it might not be real (it was), wasted about 20 minutes. Seems everything you bring in has a "problem". They pretty much sell at full retail, and not much better stuff, though a good selection of more common coins. read more

I have been a coin collector for about 50 years. I have had experience with coin shops that have not been very "user friendly" in the past. I wanted to move more toward the bullion segment of the market a couple of years ago and I had heard that Liberty was a very fair outfit. I took some of my collection to them and got a very fair quote on just about all of it so I sold most of that lot on the spot. I later took in more coins and sold them also. I have since purchased some gold rounds and this past week some bulk silver. I have a relative who is also doing business with them and we will be going in next week again. I really have no expectation of dealing with anyone else in the future. read more

I was at Liberty coins to sell 22 kt jewelry. First, the lady checked with a magnifying glass and then she put 22kt and 18kt solutions and rubbed my jewelry in the stone and solutions didn't show anything. I told her it is my jewelry from East India and it is 22kt. Then she offered $25 per gram. Internet gold value in the US is 38.39 today for 22 kt. When I mentioned that she said we buy at scrap value so we can get some return on the sale. Then she checked with a guy to confirm the gold and he took it and confirmed with someone else and said offer me 22 kt. I sold for $25 per gram. I was not happy. So I came home and checked the website www.goldpricez.com and it says 14 kt gold valued at $24.23. Then I called the East Portland Liberty Coins and they give me a different value for 22 kt at $26.79. Saying the price changes by the minute. Precious pieces being sold for scrap. More heartache for people in need. I thought they were the best in town. I got a good price last time I was there, for my earring and that's why I went back. Last time, I checked with jewelry doctor and went with knowledge and thought them to be reasonable. This time, I am disappointed with them. read more
