Front desk Social Security employee(Carmen) at the Lodi office needs more OJT(on the job training)…read more My wife needed to add a middle initial to her social security card to match exactly her drivers license and the social security employee (Carmen) told us that she needed all original copies of birth certificate and birth certificate translation and gave us an appointment for two days later. My wife went to talk to the same lady the next day to see if she could change the time of the appointment and Carmen was rude and said what appointment? I'm not going to work the front that day. So my wife drove all the way to Sacramento to get an original birth certificate at her country's consulate and brought it back and another lady(Mrs Fisher) who assisted her, and told my wife she didn't need the originals, that copies were fine just to add a middle initial to the social security card. Mrs Fisher provided much better service and was nice, not rude at all like Carmen. All the unnecessary time, gas, money and frustration and unnecessary rudeness because of an incompetent lady(Carmen) that does not know her job and gives incorrect information. Incredible. Fire or retire her.

This area has a few government buildings and some nifty sculptures and a water feature in the All Veterans plaza, worth the visit. The Italian renaissance structure is impressive and the nighttime accent lighting showed off its features. Couldn't help but notice the homeless settling in for the night - just to the right of the entrance. Would have liked to walk the veterans plaza but frankly we were alone and safety was a concern but it did not deter us from the sidewalks to admire the architecture. Fantastic to see cities like this make a name for themselves and watch them grow. A must visit especially if you enjoy murals, history and of course wine.

This review is not for the building or security but for the records office where you can get your birth certificate. I went in and a lovely lady assisted me. She was polite and friendly, advised me of the process and so I completed it. After I took everything back up to her, she advised me it would be a quick wait and to have a seat. At the time, I was on disability due to a previous TORN MCL injury, so I could not stand long. Mind you, I even had a minor limp. I was told I could have a seat by the nice representative processing my request. As soon as a I sat down, some guy who was not even ASSISTING me that was behind the glass, told me I needed to stand up and wait for my turn? Despite me already being assisted but everyone else was sitting? Just because one had a child and another was elderly.... why couldn't I sit down? I felt this rep needs a refresher in disability rights and to learn how not to discriminate. Not ALL disabilities can be seen by the naked eye. I am not the type to argue especially in a government/city building so I stood up and when the lady noticed this, she quickly tried to process my request to get me in and out. After a few minutes, I sat back down because of the pain I was feeling in my knee. The man, however, needs an attitude check and a reminder by HR to leave your problems at the door when clocking in to work. If the process is to not sit (which doesn't make sense.... not everyone can stand for long periods to fill out forms oR at the computer) then you should be mindful of that. Have some signs up maybe if that's the policy !

If there is a lot of history around this building, it escapes me. City Hall is a moderately-sized, old rectangular building. The day that I visited, it was locked, but I watched people drop off their utility payments in a box on the front door. That was perhaps not the highlight of my day. At this location, there are cool, relaxing views. After you finish watching people drop off their utility payments, you can read the whale monument, or have a seat and watch the fisherman. This is also a pleasant place to go for a stroll along the water. At City Hall itself, you can check it out in about 2 minutes. There are dilapidated bathrooms around the left side near the back. You can also watch dogs jump into the water near the boat launching ramp. I only saw dogs jumping into the water. I did not see any utility customers jumping into the water after dropping off their payment-- but if they jumped really fast, I might have missed them. Pleasant area for a quick visit, but don't expect a diamond attraction here.

Murphys is so cute. They have a bunch of rentals in the downtown area and have a lot of real estate opportunities. We came for the opening weekend of Anderson Farms and landed in a local Christmas Event at Murphys Park. Can't wait to visit again!

I used to watch California's Gold with Huell Howser on PBS many years ago and enjoyed watching his…read moreshow. He would always showcase a town or place that's off-the-beaten-path with plenty of history lesson to boot. Man, I miss that show and may he rest in peace. Visiting this old, historic town of Murphys reminded me so much of that show. I don't know if he ever visited this town, but this would be the kind of place that he would showcase on his show. From what I know, it's an old mining town dating back to the Gold Rush and it's obviously named after the maker of Murphy's Irish Stout. Of course I'm pulling your leg, but whoever Murphy was, he was definitely of Irish decent with all the four leaf clovers painted all over this town. You won't find any Leprechauns here, but you will find plenty of small wineries, restaurants and small mom-n-pop shops. It has remained a merchant town, much like it has since the Gold Rush days were over. It's a charming, quiet and quaint little town that has plenty to offer and plenty of libations if you are in the mood. The air is clean, the trees are green and it feels like you are in Mother Nature's nest. This town is perfect for a weekend getaway whether you decide to spend a day or two. Murphys is in Calaveras County and approximately a 3+ hour drive from San Francisco. It's on the outskirts of Stanislaus National Forest, North of Yosemite, East of Stockton with Moaning Caverns Adventure Park and Calaveras Big Trees State Park close by.
