I dropped into Liberty Gym while visiting Albuquerque, and it's one of the best value gyms in the country. Their drop-in day pass fee is only $5 and their monthly fee is only $25 (I've paid as much as $25 for a day pass at other gyms). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The gym is super clean, and everything was working fine.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]While this is a smaller gym, with only one each of most machines, they do have numerous squat racks and benches, as well as multiple cardio machines.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was a little crowded while I was there (about 8:30-10:30am), but I only had to wait for a couple pieces of equipment. Gyms are usually the poster child for price gouging and dishonest contracts. I'm glad to have found a gym that seemingly bucks that trend. The people managing the gym are very friendly. After moving to Albuquerque I used their $5 day passes a few times and was impressed with their no BS policy and signed up for a gym membership. There's plenty of equipment available although you'll get the most out of this gym if you don't shy away from loading your own weights. If I could nitpick (and this is really a nitpick because 99% of people plug into their own music at the gym), I'd say that the gym's playlist could use a bit more variety. Otherwise this is a great place to work out. read more

I'm seriously jealous that I don't have a gym in Las Vegas built exactly like Liberty Gym. Read the rest of the reviews for this gym and you'll see the trend...this is one serious gym. Does this gym have a basketball court and a pool? No! Does this gym have a ton of cardio equipment? Nope! Is this gym full of useless machines? No Way! Does this gym have a bunch of people just sitting around socializing? Yeah Right! This gym is hardcore, folks. It's obvious that the owner of this gym was a competitive bodybuilder back in the day. You can tell just by the type of equipment that this place has and how everything is laid out. This gym is packed with the old school equipment and a lot of it. I'm talking a ton of benches, power racks, dumbbells, free-weights, first generation Hammer equipment, and even a section dedicated to the power lifters. Can you say "Yeah Buddy, ain't nothin' but a peanut, light weight"? The moment I walked in, I knew that I would get a great pump and workout. All the plates are also steel, not the rubber/plastic coated ones. Just that hollow sound of these plates clanging against each other on each rep makes me want to come back. Honestly, this may be the best gym that I ever trained at and I have worked out at a lot of different gyms. I hope my review and other reviews of Liberty doesn't discourage you to workout here. Even though that the atmosphere is hardcore, the employees and gym goers are all cool. Everyone working out here minds their business and is focusing on their own training session. Don't get me wrong. I love my Gold's Gym and 24 Hour Fitness memberships. But this gym is in a class on it's own. Known hardcore gyms out there include Temple Gym in the UK, Metroflex in Texas, Steel Gym in New York, Bev's Powerhouse Gym in New York, and of course the Mecca in California. For the money this is a very good value gym. Equipment and facilities are clean, and they have a plethora of machines and free weights. Lots of cardio equipment too. This is a DIY gym with trainers available. They do not have a room for classes, or large floor mats. There are lots of personal floor mats available and enough room to lay them down without you crashing into adjacent equipment. For 25 bucks a month, and no initiation fees- I think I am sold. they give you a free week to see if you like it. The amount of weight machines is overwhelming. I will have to go through my "Encyclopedia of muscle and strength" book to get my bearings. Which is my favorite book on weight training I have owned so far. I started lifting in 2005. I have enough room at home to practice yoga, and used to teach at a Gold's- so I am self directed. Gyms often have toned down yoga classes anyway. So my personal preference would be to find a true yoga studio I dig. But if you are the kind of person that orders their schedule around classes like Zumba, and that is your motivator, then you will be seeking elsewhere. For me I want to go in- and sweat and grunt, and then get on with my day. No Sauna or steam room, you bring your own water, towels and lock for the locker. They do have showers they look very clean, but I would bring flip flops if I was going to get in the shower at any gym I am afraid of plantar warts. The staff that I spoke with are very no nonsense and supportive. If you know what you are doing and just want to work out, I would highly recommend this as your go to. read more

I wish there gyms like these in So Cali. I come here every time I am in town. What I like about this gym is that the weight machines are all tried and true equipment. People have been getting results from these machines for ages. I came during a busy time and all the plates and weights were where they supposed to be. The gym floor was well kept. Got a few workouts in here on our road trip across the country. Absolutely loved it! It definitely has the old school/hardcore gym feel.. but these type gyms are usually dark, dingy, worn out and dirty, not this one. Without a doubt the cleanest, most well kept hardcore gym I've ever been in. There's not one weight out of place or dust anywhere. The members seem to really care as well, everyone is cleaning their machines as soon as they're off, putting weights back immediately etc. They also offer scoops of pre workout and protein in their store if you're in a pinch, and a fridge and microwave for those who bring their food. If you want those old school bodybuilding machines and that hardcore feel but don't want to walk out feeling like you need prophylactic antibiotics.. this is your spot! Oh and the day pass was only $5!! It's not uncommon for guns to charge ~$20 for a day pass! Can't recommend them enough. read more

I have been going to this gym for about a year now and I really like it. I have been to several​ gyms in Albuquerque and I keep going back to this gym. It is very fairly priced, has good hours and pretty much all the equipment​ that you would want for cardio and weight lifting. It gets very busy around 5 but I think that is common amongst most gyms, the majority of the time you don't​ have to wait for a certain machine. They have smaller lockers at the front that where you can store your keys/sunglasses etc. In the locker rooms,​ they have larger lockers and showers. read more

While visiting from out of town, I was looking for a gym that had TRX suspension trainers. Most gyms wanted $8-15 dollars per day to use their facilities. Liberty Gym offered a $5.00 daily rate or $16 for a week. $16.00 for a week? Are you kidding me? SOLD! Liberty gym was well maintained and had a variety of equipment that would satisfy any ones needs. The TRX suspension bands appeared to be brand new and the mounts were located out of the way from the other equipment. One final note: This gym is not for those who like to show up just to hang out, it is a serious place. The members take their workouts seriously and get the job done. If you are looking for towel service and someone to wait on you, I recommend you go somewhere else. If you want a no frills, functional facility, that also has a professional staff and courteous members; then this is your place. read more

Slightly older crowd of people that workout here and found them getting in the way a bit. Has most equipment, tons of leg equipment and free weights. Was missing any serious back machines and all of the cables are quite outdated. All and all did the job and Kevin was great. Recommend if your passing through and need a lift. I travel a lot for work, so I am writing this review as someone traveling from out of town and using a day pass once or twice a month. Although I can't speak to long term customer service, the front desk has always been helpful/polite when checking in for my daily use. Liberty is definitely what a lot of people would call a "hardcore gym," which is exactly what I am always on the lookout for on the road. This gym has plenty of squat racks, benches, and even a deadlift platform. Great variety of dumbbells and weight machines as well. One of the best locally owned gyms in Albuquerque! They have everything you need to be a cardio bunny up to a power lifter. If you are looking to be pampered with a sauna, televisions, and tanning beds then you'll be disappointed. This place is for the person that is serious about their fitness and personal well being. They have a great selection of dumb bells for the curl bros. They have two power racks and two squat racks for a great leg workout. They also have an Olympic pad with a 485 rubber plate setup to do your, deadlifts, snatches, and power cleans and jerks. The staff here is super friendly and helpful. People are quick to give a lending hand, a spot, or a good conversation about fitness or nutrition. Be sure to sign up and talk to Doug, the owner. Liberty has been my gym for years. I've left and checked out others from time to time, but always come back. 1 - it's quiet. No spin class instructors shrieking at the tops of their lungs, a low setting on background music so you can listen to your own music or a book on tape while working out, nobody crashing weights around. 2 - No merchandise pushing (nobody's trying to sell you vitamins or overpriced bad coffee). 3 - a big floor space has been opened up in the back where there are mats so that *you can like down and stretch* after a workout which is particularly important for older people (me; I've just turned 79). 4 - invariably friendly and helpful staff: my husband used to go there too, and in the middle stages of his Alzheimer's disease, they were very helpful in keeping an eye on him when he needed it. 5 - Attention to the equipment. When something breaks down, it gets fixed or replaced. 6 - the high, high ceiling -- it never feels cramped or overcrowded because you can always look UP. 7 - And the mix; I am not the only old person there, or the only white person, or the only black/brown/other colored person there, or the only Spanish-speaking person, or the only overweight person, or the only person working out in street slacks and a T (but gym shoes, of course), or the only anything. 8 - And there's the cat. I'm in Albuquerque working for a couple of weeks and found it to be a touch challenging to find a good weights gym. It was made harder by the fact that I was on foot for my stay. After moving hotel to the uptown area I searched and found two gyms equidistant to where I was staying. Both about a 35-40 minute walk. Luckily the hotel I was placed at has a free shuttle service. Liberty Gym seemed like the bigger, more well equipped gym from the reviews and pictures. This is a hardcore gym for people who want to workout. It is large and full of almost everything you might need. Most of the equipment is getting a little old, but there is also a lot of newer stuff, especially in the leg area. There's an abundance of new squat racks, but there's a lack when it comes to benches and cable machines. There is only one cable cross machine and both occasions I needed it I had to change my exercise because it was taken... and the guy was on there for about 30 minutes. LOL. But mostly they have all you need to train hard and in any way you feel like. Another thing, if you're into cats, they have their own gym cat. Her name is Anastasia. She lives next door, but spends most of her time at the gym, just wondering around, patrolling, and saying hi to people, or simply sleeping at the front desk. Her alone is worth going to this gym. Look, the scoop is, if you want a very basic weights gym with (absolutely) no frills or extras, this is it! Also, I was very pleased to see that almost everyone put their weights away and in the right place as well!! The selfish & messy members at my LA gym could learn a lesson there!! Kudos. read more

I've been to gyms all around the country (and the world) and Liberty Gym was one of the best equipped, reasonably priced for a daily, and most welcoming gym I've been to in a long time. The place was clean and COVID protocols were followed. The staff was friendly and I had a great conversation about my hometown of Detroit with the gentleman who was the manager of the day. I ended up buying a boatload of gym gear from the pro shop and my son and I returned several times over our weeklong stay in Albuquerque. There is a wide variety of equipment that gives one many options to hit each body part and a good variety of cardio equipment. And kettlebells! gotta love kettlebells. I was visiting from out of town and stopped in for the day and got a day pass for $5.00. Bobby was extremely kind and helpful, and allowed me to store my massive bags in the office while I worked out. I also had the chance to talk with him after, and really enjoyed getting to know more about the gym, the owner, and him. The gym itself is really awesome. Lots of free weights and machines. Casual vibe -- not corporate (thank god), and the type of place you can hangout at (they have a mini fridge, microwave, and seating upstairs). I wish more gyms were like this. This review has no bearing on how much I like Liberty Gym, but a negative review on a personal trainer DANIEL ROCHA. My husband and I have been going to Liberty since January 2015. It is the perfect gym for us considering all we utilize is the weights... and they are plentiful. We have noticed since we have gone there, that Daniel is always staring at his cell phone while working with his clients. We see all the other trainers personally involved/interacting/motivating their clients. All the while Daniel stands on the side staring at his cell phone. It is infuriating that his clients pay him for a service and that is the service they are receiving, compared to the service I see other trainers giving their clients. It is absolutely rude and unprofessional. Another major gripe we have about him is that he always leaves the weights on the equipment after he is done. All gym rats/junkies know that is is POOR gym etiquette and it makes everyone frustrated/mad when they have to walk around asking everyone if anyone is still using the machine... knowing that it is Daniel who left the weights on that machine. It messes up the workout flow and wastes the time we have designated in our lives to getting/staying in shape. I have talked to several patrons of the gym during the time we are always there and they feel the same about Daniel. We overlooked the issues until last week we walked into the gym and Daniel was walking down the stairs and cut my husband off... so directly that we both stopped and expletives came out of both of our mouths. It was extremely rude and made both of us angry. At that point I decided since he thinks he can throw his weight around with people trying to mind their own business, I've had enough. As owner and manager of two successful businesses in Albuquerque, my husband would never allow a person like that to represent his business. Daniel Rocha, you are a poor example of what a personal trainer should emulate and should never be allowed to practice in any gym. If it were up to me, you would be fired. read more
