Southern Hotel - Another stay and gorgeous room..

Such a great stay at The Southern Hotel -- truly a hidden gem! The vibes are unique and charming,…read morewith beautiful decor and a relaxed atmosphere. We loved the bar drinks and the super cute, safe street it's located on. Parking was easy, and our room was surprisingly spacious -- perfect for the kids to spread out after a long drive. This will definitely be our go-to stop when driving from Texas to Florida. Always on the hunt for a good halfway point, and this one checks all the boxes!

I would not recommend staying at this hotel…read more Upon arrival, the front desk attendant was repeatedly hacking and coughing and appeared visibly ill. It was not the first impression I expected when checking into a hotel. Unfortunately, the room itself was also disappointing. The carpet was dirty, there was an old cough drop and a granola bar underneath the bed, and the air vent blew dust into the room when it turned on. These issues made me question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned before our stay. To make matters worse, there was a wedding taking place at the hotel, and the reception appeared to be directly outside our room. The music was extremely loud and continued until around 9:30 p.m. Traveling with a small child, this made bedtime difficult and significantly impacted our experience. The restaurant experience was equally frustrating. I ordered chicken tenders for my child, but they arrived covered in a spicy buffalo-style sauce, making them inedible for a young child. I charged the meal to my room and only discovered several days later, after requesting an itemized receipt, that a 22% tip charge had been added. I was never informed of this 22% tip charge when ordering. When I called to ask about it, the manager explained that the 22% charge was for room service tip. However, the food was never delivered to my room. I was required to walk to the restaurant and pick it up myself. While I didn't mind retrieving the food, I do mind being charged a substantial tip for a service that wasn't provided. To make matters worse, my hands were full carrying three drinks and a bag of food back to the room, and one of the overfilled drinks spilled along the way. I also spoke directly with the hotel manager regarding the 22% tip charge. I explained that I was never informed ahead of time that this charge would be added and that the food was not actually delivered to my room. Instead, I had to walk to the restaurant and pick it up myself. The manager did not seem concerned that I was being charged what was described as a room service fee without receiving traditional room service. What bothered me most was not just the charge itself, but the lack of transparency and the apparent unwillingness to acknowledge why a guest might find that frustrating. If they had actually delivered the food themself I would have tipped more. The combination of the dirty room, excessive noise, unexpected charges, and poor dining experience made for a very disappointing stay. I would not stay here again and would not recommend either the hotel or the restaurant.

Solid Hampton Inn experience, no suite for me I guess. Tehehe…read more I wasn't expecting much so the goodness that ensued was extremely welcomed. Stopped on a whim just because I was tired of driving. McComb MS. People actually live here. Check in was fast and easy. Dude did grill me like a cop about where I was headed and where I had been. At first I was annoyed, then I realized he was just being nice. Good kid. His name is Miguel I believe. I know a lot about that dude now, but if you meet him, I'm sure he will tell you too. This place had the most comfortable bed outside of my own that I have slept in this year. Pillows were glorious too! Room was nice and comfy. AC was nice level sound wise. Towels, linens, room all clean no nasties hiding that I found. All in all good job room wise. Breakfast was just almost edible. Classic booosheet hotel breakfast. Blah. Blah. Blah. I'd stay here again if ever needing a place to crash near a Supercharger. Oh yea. McComb has a Tesla Supercharger for some reason. '25 - 29/111

The only noise we heard was from the freeway (it was minimal), and the hotel is located in a prime area - several restaurants and things to do are within minutes. My cousin mentioned the hotel allowed smoking since one of her friends loved to smoke in her room, but I can assure you that was a LONG time ago. I was initially concerned since my husband is allergic. The entire hotel is nonsmoking, and I couldn't pick up on any hint of cigarette smoke (I have a very sensitive nose). We got a solid night's sleep and woke up extremely refreshed (Hampton beds are the BEST). Our room was quite spacious, and we didn't feel crammed at all (it was the king sofa bed studio suite). My parents stayed down the hall from us and enjoyed their experience as well. They also commented on how nice and quiet the hotel was, and we all agreed we will definitely be back next time we're in to visit family.

Parking lot was full because there's a water park behind and they use all the parking spaces. We were told after 8 parking would free up. Wrong it was nearly ten before parking was available. Found white stains on chair in corner of room. Grease stains on wall by head board. Missing artwork on wall. Touch up paint on all the walls. Pillows were awful. It's a non smoking room yet there's burn marks in the comforter. Room felt clean but dirty at same time. Was told there would be continental breakfast this morning until nine. Walked down at 8 and there was so food. Paid over $120 for room because July 4th weekend. No park of this building was worth $120. This is a 40 dollar experience if you're being generous. Gentleman working front desk at check in spoke poor English which made communication a problem. When leaving this morning there were maybe 8 cars in parking lot. For $120 we shouldn't have had to wait for a parking spot last night.

All of the lampshades were tattered and dingy. But we didn't see any other choice, so we settled for it and put our stuff down. Had to go to church that night. When we got back to the hotel after church, the lady from registration was was lounging in a chair in the lobby and some man who appeared to know her was slumped across the sofa with his shoes off and a vape pen on the table. It was the most unprofessional behavior I've ever seen by hotel staff. But wait. There's more. The pillows were like someone stuffed a bunch of rags stuffed into a sack. The bed creaked with every movement. You're thinking lots of beds creak; no big deal. No! This thing was loud and I couldn't turn over without making a bunch of noise. We didn't see anyone else staying there. That should have been a warning. The next day, we checked out and canceled the other days we'd planned to stay there. I told the reception manager I would be giving them a bad review because the place is so dirty. She just looked at me, expressionless, and said, "OK." Guess she's used to it. I'm just glad we didn't get bedbugs. That's a low standard.

However, if you value your safety, I highly recommend you do not stay at La Quinta in Hammond Louisiana. I was greeted by the fresh smell of weed as I arrived. I was immediately grossed out, but wish that's all that happened while I was there. The bathroom, which I'm pretty sure supplied used toiletries, had mold around the bathtub. The curtain was filthy. The fluorescent lights made me feel like I was in a factory. While the surrounding areas had clean cut grass, the hotel itself had at least a foot of grass...possibly to hide the broken glass that was all around ... not to mention, the human feces. We felt very unsafe both because it was quite evident that there were attempted break-ins on all the doors... And then there was the drug deal that happened next door, in the parking lot and the stairwell. That one was fun. The dirty ice machine, and caution tape that had fallen into the dark green pool gave me the feeling of wanting to douse myself in antibacterial solution. We did our best this morning to pack the car up and get our fourteen-year-old out of there- while keeping our eyes down so as not to disrupt any drug dealings. La Quinta, either get yourself together and clean this place up, or add a disclaimer to your business listing at this location so that unsuspecting families don't walk into this death trap.

Military & Government Travelers avoid this property!…read more I stayed at this hotel while traveling on official government assignment. My assignment was unexpectedly canceled on the final day, forcing a change in departure timing. I checked out approximately 30 minutes past the posted checkout time. All of my luggage had already been removed from the room and I was in the process of leaving the property. Despite this, the manager refused any flexibility and charged me for an additional full night. I contacted Hilton corporate customer service and was advised that the decision was entirely at the discretion of the individual property's management and ownership. I fully understand hotels have policies. However, anyone familiar with military or government travel knows schedules and orders can change without warning and are not within the traveler's control. A 30-minute overage, with a vacant room, resulting in a full additional night's charge shows a lack of reasonable accommodation and customer consideration. If you are military or a government contractor traveling on orders, I strongly recommend avoiding this property.

Although I didn't try it, the outdoor pool looked inviting. And there is also an area to play pool and other games. When you arrive or depart the hotel grab some complimentary popcorn, warm cookies, or bottled water. The staff is more than happy to oblige Cheers!!

Not only did they have rooms, they gave us a great "negotiated" rate! We (my husband and two girls 3 & 4 months) got a Suite ($100 per night) and it was super clean and roomy. But at the end of the day the only real problem was a group of local 40-somethings on TRT with their 3 pit bulls who were camping together in a group of 6. They basically hung out all day in lawn chairs getting hammered in the driveway section of their site (directly across from our site) basically just being d**ks. (there needs to be some sort of rule about pit bull kennels operating in a campsite)... But after they left, this RV campground became more calm and worth exploring and enjoying. There is a small lazy river, a large pool and a poolside bar. There is also a decent workout room available 24/7. The lakeside location of several camp sites was the draw for us, as was the evening entertainment while enjoying a few drinks. The campsites are all immaculate full hookup with excellent concrete pads. There are both back in and pull-throughs to accommodate most size rigs.
