There are so many things to peruse from their yummy chocolate shop to their beautiful jewellery hall to their mad eclectic collection of homewares. They also often hold charity events with waiter service carrying trays of G&T (for instance) around the floors and tarot readings etc to raise money - it makes for quite a special evening. Liberty is heaven. The prints! Oh, the prints! I fell madly in love with Liberty's prints long before I lived in London, when they did a collection for Target in the US. Now that I live here, I've spent a small fortune there in fabric alone. Do I know what I plan to do with said fabric? No clue! But I have it, and it's beautiful. Yes, it's expensive. You don't walk into Liberty expecting low, low prices! Could spend hours in there just wandering around looking at all there is to offer. The new baby/kids section is amazing. I have no babies or kids, but I can't help but go in and fawn over the frilly baby Chloe and Dior and Marc Jacobs... *sigh!* Picked up some special Liberty collaboration Docs today, and I couldn't be happier. read more

I could spend the whole day here just looking and feeling things and and trying on everything and having a wee chat with whomever wants to chat with me :-) Yeah, it can be expensive as all get-up but their sales are good and if you are looking for something in particular, chances are, you'll find it. I bought my fave luggage here about 6 years ago and got it on sale, EU designer, no one had heard of her...then...she hit the US about 2 years ago....oh well...I still haven't seen anyone else with my cutie-pie luggage. I always have tea here and people watch, love it! They have big comfortable armchairs and serve proper tea, phew...! I actually fell asleep here once, was very jet-lagged, no one bothered me at all and I also had a little friend with me who snuggled in my chair with me, no problem! It's easy to get to on the Oxford Circus/Bakerloo line and there's tons of other shops in the Piccadilly/Oxford Circus area. FUN! read more

something about the interiors and lighting always put me off in this department store. I have been several times one of which was helped by a nice lady in the lingerie department for measurement and styles, but never felt like this is a place to buy from.. the variety isn't there and usually sizes aren't available I like the flowers at the entrance and the huge selection of luxe scarves but nothing else- up until last month when I was drawn to a tiny bag on display- went straight in fully determined to buy it. the sales assistant was really nice- she helped me check over 7 other bags to make sure that the bag I came in to buy was the right purchase at this moment I kind of pictured the snobbish staff at Selfridge's and how horrible they are with customers !!! at the till I discovered the loyalty scheme and signed up for a card- which I think is a brilliant idea (for every £100 spent you receive points worth £20 which you can redeem on your next purchase- a discount in disguise) looking forward to using my loyalty card soon at Liberty especially that they exclusively stock some of the finest fragrances and cosmetics ranges in London. read more

I wish I had a lot more money than I do. This place makes Saks 5th Avenue (or Neiman Marcus, or Bloomingdales -- or pick another top-notch American department store) look like a bargain basement. Seriously. Scarfs in the iconic Liberty's prints start at something like 85 pounds and go up to 200. That would be for a scarf. A small rectangle or square of silk twill, cotton, or single-ply pashmina. In pounds. So that that, multiply by 1.6-2x ... and you get a $400 scarf + 17.5% VAT. If I were not closing on a house next week, I might have bought a pocket square. The prints on the 3rd floor and the craft room are to die for. The prints are just amazing. I've never seen designs so balanced, harmonious, and gorgeous. I can't sew, but I seriously considered learning just so that I could buy some raw fabric and make pillows or something else equally simple -- also, raw fabric was the only thing that I could afford in the store, and just barely afford. There was a pile of quilting scraps for 50 pounds, for example. Those would be the scraps. The prints on silk twill start at 35 pounds a yard. If I were a designer, I would spend a fortune here. Visiting Liberty at the run up to Christmas has become a family tradition. We went a little early this year and it was very odd with the Christmas floor not all that busy. But the problem is that while I seem to love everything, I just can't bare to only buy some items and not others - and I can't afford everything. So typically I leave empty empty handed and sad. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about liberty. Firstly it is a really relaxing environment to shop in. In my experience the sales assistants are super friendly without being over bearing and salesy. Despite the (understandably) high price point and my (disappointingly) thin wallet I've never felt like they don't appreciate my custom. I think my favourite thing though is their diversity of stock, it is a really great place to pick up some inspiration for gifts and for home decoration even if you can't necessarily afford everything in here. I love the fact that it remains quintessentially British while modern at the same time. Essentially I love it and it should be the first stop on any shopping expedition to London, I could spend a long time just browsing. read more

I've lived in London for 8 years and been visiting for several more than that. There are a few of the big stores I've never been to and never really felt the need to and Liberty is one of them. My friends from out of town were visiting and the Christmas shop had not lot long opened so we went with them for a browse. Wow. Just wow. It's a beautiful building. Much bigger than you expect at first. And damn, it's expensive. It's the sort of place you go looking for that really special present for someone if you're a normal earner, or the sort of place that you get everything if you're a more well off type. Liberty is my favorite department store IN THE WORLD. No joke, this place is incredible. The store itself is beautiful, made from an old ship. It's unique, clean, and never over crowded. Undoubtedly my favourite department store, ever. Fabulous surroundings and architecture form a cosy, almost old-world charm. The champagne and oyster bar is fantastic, and the nearby TEA in an alcove of its own, wedged between the vintage and new handbags, is a treat for afternoon tea. Loved the store- good range of cosmetics, fabulous clothes and iconic stationary. PS: The parking thing on Yelp says street, but valet parking is available, too. read more

They have fab sales. That really is the only way I ever buy anything here--read: some fierce, cable knit, light grey, fingerless gloves. Actually, the ones I'm wearing in my profile picture. I loooove them! Beyond those gloves, I pretty much only have gripes: the men's department, the customer service, and the layout to name a few.The men's department is crammed into the lower ground floor. They also carry sizes meant only for tiny Asian men and the slenderest of the British types. The customer service is not good, even when I'm dressed well and carry other expensive shop bags. Once I walked around the store in my gym wear. Big mistake--security followed me around like I was a bag lady. And finally, the layout of the entire store is rather schizophrenic. It looks as though departments have been stuffed here and there, rather than laid out in some sort of cohesive plan. I understand; it's an old building. Still odd. For my money, I'd rather shop at Selfridges or Harvey Nich's. read more

I LOVE Liberty. From it's fascinating history, building to amazing contents, there is nothing better than an afternoon at Liberty... or is there? Well, in the old days of Financial stability and such nonsense, Liberty used to invite card holders to preview and sale evenings where they ply us with cheap wine and canapes and I'd bring my friend and we'd laugh at all these women having cat fights while we drink our free wine. This seems to no longer happen. Otherwise loving the new shoe lounge but revamped jewellery department and contemporary fashion could have a little more work. Some people dream about splurging on clothes but I dream about the day that I can walk into the 3rd floor and pick out miles and miles of fabric. The fabrics at Liberty are so lush. If you like delicate and vibrant prints definitely come here. They also offer a lot of haberdashery stuff but those can be found elsewhere for cheaper. Come here for the fabric. Customer service could be a bit better. There aren't a lot of employees on the floor to help you if you have questions. You have to seek them out and often times they are cutting fabric for one person or ringing up someone at the till. read more

Can I say this is my favourite British department store with out 'ruling out' my love for the other stores?? I really love it so much. I wish I could afford more of the stuff in here then in reality. So yes, It's expensive! Sure it doesn't have a 'food hall' like the other places but it had a section dedicated to chocolate so booyaa! It also has a whole floor for your haberdashery needs, with their owe unique prints - now how many department store can say they have that? The building is amazing and stands out from the crowd with it's mock Tudor type architecture and when lit up for the early nights/Xmas it is quite the sight. Also great place for the random celebrity sighting (Tracey Ullman looking for a leather jacket - yes I saw her try a few on, no I wasn't stalking her). I really think you have to see it to believe it. I'm just QUITE the place and it's not a visit to London without going there for a look/see and if in reality you can afford most anything then this is a must destination. read more

The only remainder of this store's former grandeur are the lifts. These are still lined with original gleaming carved wooden panels. However step out on to the haberdashery floor and get an unpleasant surprise. The previous selection of goodies ranging from lace to embroidery kits has been replaced with "cute" baskets of insipid pieces of fabric ranged along the minstels gallery. The ground floor has a new beauty department - but alas John Lewis easily eclipses it. I get the distinct impression that the store is catering to the tourist souvenir trade and is no longer interested in retaining established customers. I spotted a gold charm at three times the price I recently paid - yes you expect a mark up in the heart of London but me thinks 250% is taking the pee. Save your feet - visit McCulloch for lace and John Lewis for cosmetics. read more

I visited their chocolate department on 31 May and the female staff was very charming, efficient and helpful. Every department has its own charm and character, and the knowledge of the staff is totally marvelous. Unique department store with great merchandise but a little snobby. The housewares department has great items for gifts. The candles were my favorite. The fabrics and ribbons are also worth while checking out. I must have left with at least $100 worth of ribbons. How I use these ribbons is to be determined... The snobby areas are cosmetics and shoes. You seem to be sized up by these sales associates and if you are dressed "comfortably" they ignore you. Hey, when I'm on vacation, I leave my high heels at home. London is a town where you are doing a lot of walking and you need to wear comfortable (but presentable!) shoes. At least I can browse undisturbed. This is still a must see store when your in London. The building, the interior and the florals are great eye candy. read more

Liberty is one of my favorite department stores in London. I especially love Liberty's beauty department. A lot of lovely niche beauty brands are represented at Liberty's beauty department. I love the "cult beauty product" corner of the beauty department with beauty products that are so beloved that they have a cult status among beauty lovers. Liberty can be crowded sometimes because of the layout of its old building, but I love it's old-style charm. The staff here is professional and helpful. The staff will not ignore you when it's crowded at their counter. They will at least ask what you would like from the counter, in case you only need a product and not a full face of makeup. And otherwise, if you need more help, they will tell you that they will help you when they have finished helping another customer. read more

Ever since I have left London, I can't get this place out of my head. Maybe it was the Hour and a half i spent browsing all the unique makeup lines. No, maybe it was the two hours i spent hitting every square inch of every floor, including the most AMAZING jewelry department! My goal is to see my designs among the Pamela Love, Alexis Bittar and Eddie Borgo. Only in London could such a old, cold and definitely haunted old building successfully stage an abundance of modern, hip and forward thinking style. This place cannot be duplicated and it cannot be missed. It is a must for any fashion lover making her way through all the London retail. read more

Liberty is normally a magical place however currently they are doing renovations on the ground floor (possibly more but I was only on the ground floor) which is making it a very complicated warren. It is a little pricey - The umbrellas are +£100. But it is an amazing place to window shop. If you look pass the temporary walls it is a beautiful old building and the departments are beautifully arranged. read more

But I love having a browse of the kitchenware, stationary, the Christmas shop when it's open and those lovely fabric prints. The chocolate room is very nice and every now and again you can find a bargain. The building itself is gorgeous. The old lifts are fun. One of my favorite stores (dept. stores) in London. Small compared to Harrods or Selfridges but I like the more personal vibe and how beautiful this mock Tutor building is. I always take my tourist here as I see it as such a beautiful building with wonderful collection of goodies. I like the stationary section, jewelry, cosmetics, candles, shoes and homeware. There is nothing not to like about liberty besides possibly the price tags... They do carry some of the most well sough after luxury global brands such as Stella, Chloe, Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang etc etc. This is worth visit just to marvel at the pretty building and goodies inside. read more

This store is paradise! I loved every moment of exploring the interesting wares, but the store itself is beautiful, as well. I was out bopping around SoHo looking at all of the Christmas decorations and exploring the restaurants, coffee shops and retail spaces. I had no idea what Liberty was until we were right in front and I absolutely had to go inside. I didn't buy anything as I'm traveling the world with just a small backpack, but it was a fun place to explore. read more

What's there to say about Liberty that hasn't already been said? This is a classic department store (dare I say 'the' classic department store?) in the traditional sense of the word. Each department is its own little haven of perfection, with knowledgeable staff and an interesting selection of items. Don't be put off by the £15,000 Persian (and Afghani, and Indian) rugs that, one day, will grace my floor. Liberty is certainly unabashedly upscale, but it has something for (nearly) every budget, and includes practical household items--think thread, measuring cups, hand soap--tucked in among the designer, one-off, and antique pieces that it's better known for with price tags to make the most hardened shopper twitch. Their more pedestrian items are priced very much in line with places like John Lewis et al. If you can cope with the throngs of tourists and the groups of Saudi men trying out overwhelming colognes, you're bound to find something you covet (or maybe even something useful) and can (almost) afford to bring home. read more

Cafe Liberty is the perfect place to stop and have tea. We were done with the crazy shopping and wanted a break from oxford circus. We went in and got cream tea. It was just over 10 pounds and was worth it for sure. The cream tea comes with two scones each, that are incredibly delicious. We also each get our own pot of tea. I had Mango Tango tea and it was delicious. we were there for almost two hours. Great hidden cafe in the Liberty store. read more

I never think of Liberty as a department store. Somehow that word just doesn't do justice. I think it is more like an extended boutique. At least that is the feeling you get when you are surrounded by the breathtakingly beautiful interior and decoration, walking on the wooden floors with nice and smooth music on the background. I can spend hours there just walking, browsing and dreaming around. I like the fact that the ranges in all areas are rather different from their competitors. Like in the health&beauty department almost all the major brands you see in the shelf's every other store are missing. Instead they have a well selected selection of smaller quality labels. And that idea repeats in all the other departments as well, and is mixed with the exotic and well designed Liberty's own brand. Especially I love the clothing section. Yes it is mostly designer wear, but they have more affordable contemporary section as well that sells brands like Vanessa Bruno, Marlene Birger and Tsumori Chisato to name a few. read more

I really love this store, and right now Im specially pleased with the candle section they have. Its located as an annex to the actual Tudor building on Argyll Street, and you can enter it from Carnaby Street. What is cool about it is that it's a great way of getting a present, in a Liberty bag, and one that almost everyone will love. I mean who wouldn't want a Green Figuier Candle, by Diptyque? At £38 it might seem a steep price to pay for a candle, but they last forever and they really fill any space with the most amazing fragrance. Also this section is probably the only one where I can afford anything from this store. read more

Liberty is not a department store, well it is, but when you think of a department store and what it entails: harsh lighting, loud music, too many people, long till ques, Liberty just doesn't fall into that category. It feels like walking into a stately home, plush carpets, amazing drapes, wooden wall coverings that are beautifully carved, even if your not going to buy anything, a stop to look at the decor is enough to leave you satisfied. All the products sold within the store are aimed at the high end market and all carefully selected by specialist buyers. I personally think the most impressive stop offs are the florist and the lingerie, both leave me salivating a little bit and wishing I could find that rich husband. All these qualities aside, unless your a Liberty veteran, it can be quite difficult to navigate round and I have found myself walking in circles many a time. One ,must also enter with a head held high as I believe it is the shop assistants (and sometimes other customers) favourite game to look down on a mere pauper and intimidate and destroy! read more

The designs are fantastic. Its not affordable by everyone, but the quality of everything here is so beautiful. I get enamoured every time I visit the store. My obsession with Liberty is starting to scare my friends. Last week there was an 'early bird' promotion that gave shoppers a 15% discount between 7am and 9am, and there I was, rushing to the tube to take full advantage. Liberty, founded in 1875, brings together designer home ware, clothes and accessories with a difference. The result is a nonpareil and eclectic selection of just beautiful artifacts inside a wonderful Tudor arts and crafts building. Forget the regular department store copycat labels, here you are going to pick up something unique. The thing I love about this place is how well the store's buyers choose the pieces for each collection. There isn't one dress, pair of shoes, or bedside table that escapes my attention here, I covet them ALL. Shame that the price is often a little out of my budget but then I'm quite happy to daydream I have that personal shopper and an endless pit of cash. What I come here for though, is Liberty's own range of fabrics, accessories, notebooks and cosmetics, which make such wonderful gifts for friends and are very reasonable indeed. read more

What an amazing store. Looking at it from the outside, you get this oldsy worldsy feeling from the architecture, but once inside it's a bit 1870's and 1950's and 2050 too, all sort of mashed up, depending where you are in the store. The goods on offer are quite nice. Prepare for sticker shock! Ouch! You will see some lovely goods, however. Spend wisely. Enjoy! read more
