I looked and bought it. It was late at night. I paid for it and was told to come back Monday. He needed time to change the strings before he let it leave his shop. Monday turned into Next week. Stop by again and he tells me it's not ready yet. Came by to pick up the guitar after two weeks of waiting to replace the strings. To my amazement it's now missing two knobs. He said he would order it from Charvel. Take the guitar home he never changed the strings. 8 weeks later no contact from Ed telling me the knobs are in. After exchanging nasty text messages I drove up to Danvers at Guitar Center and they hooked me up on the spot with aftermarket knobs. 1st impressions of Eddy. He comes across as a very nice guy. Personable, shared some good stories. As it turned out we knew some of the same people.....after reading reviews here the results are the same. I understand he is on his own and overwhelmed. I get that. I am in the Plumbing Business and get overwhelmed sometimes. Only Ed knows why he does what he does to some of his customers. I wish him all the success but I know I will not be back.

I've always wanted a candy apple red Strat. The electronics were terrible, the nut was plastic, the action was way too high and the intonation was terrible, and the pickups were underpowered (they were crap, actually), but I knew from past experience that I could count on Domenic at Third Floor Guitars to turn it into a quality instrument. Once again, he didn't disappoint. He replaced the plastic nut with a Tusq nut, swapped out the pots with 3 CTS 250k pots, replaced the switch with a genuine Fender 5-way switch, replaced the jack with a Switchcraft jack, installed an Orange Drop 022 cap, and installed 3 genuine vintage1990s MIM Fender ceramic magnet pickups - and of course, a full setup. I played it tonight at my band's practive and everyone (including me) was amazed at how awesome it sounded. Honestly, it sounded as good as my 1978 Strat - maybe even better!

We walked into this place on a rainy Saturday afternoon and there were some very talented people picking a little bluegrass in a corner while we browsed away. The selection of stringed instruments is unlike any that I've seen in a small shop, and they have separate room (which are enchanting) for all sorts of music lessons (not just stringed instruments, but piano, horns, etc). The woman behind the counter was friendly and chatty and although she tried to upsell just about everything, she wasn't pushy about it and seemed to know what she was talking about. This is a great place to go on a lazy afternoon, whether you're a musician or not.

I called one Friday morning at about 11:00 AM and explained to him what type of piano I was looking for. By 3:00 PM that day, he had assembled the piano at his studio, delivered it, and set it up - all for about the price on Amazon. I have never experienced such extraordinary service. They were confident they could work on the vintage instrument no problem and would finish it with two weeks max. When I tried to pick up the instrument, he said it wasn't ready. There was a couple month period where we tried to set up a time, then i couldn't get ahold of him. His phone number disconnected, email didn't exist, and website no longer existed. I finally heard from him after leaving a note in his mailbox. Came to pick up the guitar months later, and he said he refretted the guitar but couldn't setup the guitar correctly with the new bridge without resetting the neck. So he only charged me $400 something dollars instead of the $600 he quoted. Shame on me, I paid him without checking his work. Upon looking at the guitar, there was glue fingerprints all over the guitar and chunks of the fretboard were missing. Literal slice marks across the fret board. The refret job was horrible and essentially ruined my 1970 ES175. The value of the guitar has significantly dropped because of his work.

I have known Yury for years as a valued member of the Newton-Watertown community. He had been…read moretuning my old piano for a long time and when it came time to graduate to a better instrument, I visited his store in Newton. I had a low price range in mind but wanted a decent, real instrument that would hold its tune well in an apartment that's not heat- or humidity-controlled. Other piano shops laughed at my price range and said I'd never find a decent upright piano for less than $5,000. They were completely wrong. Yury is an expert in his craft and I completely trust his advice when it comes to pianos. He tunes them with an old-European-style precision and care that, quite frankly, is very difficult to find from other piano professionals. I purchased a refurbished Yamaha U3 from his shop for a wonderful price and couldn't be happier - true to his word, the piano was perfectly in tune when it arrived and hadn't required any tuning for over two months. When it does, I will be sure to call him - his prices are very reasonable and his work and years of experience, both in Europe and the United States, speaks for itself. I most certainly can vouch that his work is excellent and that the care and depth he brought to the job really made my old instrument a joy to play (and my new one even better!). This shop is a real gem because it's truly a one-man show and a real local business that does it all (there aren't many of those anymore!): he tunes, restores, repairs and sells pianos of all types and sizes. There are used Baldwins, perfect for a beginner student or kid starting out; there are also grand Steinways for the local jazz players and professional performers. In fact, a good friend of mine, a world-class jazz pianist, purchases his instruments at Yury's vs. any of the local chain stores. You will be supporting a LOCAL shop and will know that if you make a purchase, it will be an instrument that had been individually cared for. It will also be a fair price without the huge markup seen at the other places. Buying an instrument, especially a piano, is always intimidating, but I highly recommend this little shop and place complete trust in Yury's services.

I have a 9k Rose Gold Aurumite Handmade Conservatory Flute from Powell, with offset G and a high E…read morefacilitator. I love my flute, (not sure I love the headjoint and am trying other things) . It changed my life. I was playing a Yamaha 584H through college and for nearly 10 years afterward, and wasn't sure I would ever amount to being much of a flutist. That is, until I tried the Powell...I didn't know what more I was capable of til then. The Aurumite also is a unique blend of gold and silver offering the response of silver and the warmth of gold. Other cool things about Powell: Their website is wonderful with tons of info about the company, masterclasses, events, videos of flutemaking. They make these great metal plugs "Plug-O's" for flutes which convert an open hole flute to closed hole and back, and the rubber o rings that hold them in prevent them from falling out. Friendly staff, always answer e-mails and phone calls.
