Lets face it, There's a lot of good shops to go to in Seattle. Liberty, hands down, is one of the best ones. I don't like to go into a tattoo shop and feel awkward of unwelcome. That is something I never feel when I walk into Liberty. The ENTIRE staff at Liberty Tattoo is amazingly talented and SO nice. Jamie King is the artist I primarily go to at this shop. He understands what I want and always gets it perfectly. I would recommend this shop to anyone and everyone.... in fact, I do, all the time! Great shop, great people, awesome vibe. read more

My friend and I wanted matching tattoos and I wanted one other. We called a bunch of places to compare minimum costs. For a tiny anchor, we want something less than $80 min. Instead, these guys have a $60 min. They allow walk ins or appointments, however if you walk in, expect to wait 30+ mins or come back a little later, depending on time of day and how complicated your design is. This wait time allows you enough time to grab some cash (yes, it's cash only). They really worked with us on size and cost. Seriously some really nice and talented people. Emily is efficient and skilled - it took us like 30 mins for my two and my friend's one (granted they were basic designs). Some other people were ahead of us and they were in and out in a flash. She's awesome. All in all, I'm super happy with my mini tattoos as is my friend. Definitely recommend this place! read more

I was very pleased with this place. I made an appointment, not knowing if I could have my tatt done within the range I was looking for, but after all was said and done, it was worth every penny. This is my 2nd tattoo (one of many more to come) but my first one was over 10 years ago so I was a bit nervous at first until I watched them work and got a feel for the place. Then I was completely fine and ready. Jamie did my tattoo on the back of my neck in 10 minutes, if that. And it was perfect and almost painless. All the guys there were really nice and helpful too. The only bummer is that they only accept cash so I had to go to the ATM at Safeway across the way. I'm not a cash-carrier as I'm sure a lot of people aren't nowadays, so I was a bit surprised. I'd give them 4 1/2 for that, but I have to say that the experience, as a whole, was tremendous. Jamie was top-notch, quick, and precise. And a great deal on the tattoo as well. I love these guys. I have gotten two tattoos here, and the first one as a part of the "Toys for Tats" event. I loved my piece, and Asher was great. Super fast, and it looks great. My second one I came back because of my great experience here. Asher did it as well (mostly because he did such a fantastic job the first time!), and I'm really happy with it. This one goes to Jaimie King :-) Let me just say that Jamie is one talented and detail-minded type of guy. He's very thorough and really cares about what his client wants. He lives up to his reputation as a good artist, no doubt about it. I got a fairly large (okay, medium size, but I'm a small person) piece done by Jamie. At first I was very nervous, I wasn't sure if he could do it because what I wanted was an exact duplicate of a piece of artwork. The drawing itself was very detailed, and would require a person that specialized in portrait tattoos to get it done right. My friends (who are well experienced and knowledgable in tattoos) said that Jaimie wouldn't be able to execute something so difficult (they only said this because his binder of photos had a lot of traditional tats in it). Jamie did my piece in two sessions, one hour for the outline and three to four hours for the shading. He made sure that I wasn't too uncomfortable (my leg fell asleep) and the pricing is....well deserved, if not more. I love my piece. It's so wonderfully detailed and beautiful. It's worth how much i paid for it and so much more. Great prices, great atmosphere, amazing people, great experiences. I loved every moment of it. read more

Good service and good work! I had family in from out of town and most of us wanted to go get tattoos together. These guys did a great job accommodating our group, even though we didn't have appointments. The one missing star is that they're cash only. Walked in while in town one weekend. No one greeted me and the place seemed deserted. After a minute or two a young man about 18 or 19 years old wandered out. I asked some questions about walk in availability and shop minimum. The kid didn't seem like he really knew what he was talking about, but he was the only person in the place so I inquired about getting a simple piece of flash and what it might run me. I've got easily 150+ hours of tattoo work under my belt but this kid blew me away. 250 "plus tax" for a tattoo significantly smaller and less detailed than what 250 has gotten me in multiple other major cities. Ok. So it's over priced and the shop hand is kind of a dick. Whatever. But then I realize, this kid is the one who would be tattooing me. Seriously? There were a ton of artists with portfolios out but this shop boy is gonna go to work? Where are all the artists? What I'm getting at here is that any tattoo shop worth their salt should be able to bust out some solid traditional flash off the wall. Walked out and never looked back. read more

She had also mentioned that, upon request, he would use all natural ink which I was interested in. I was really impressed by him. He took two designs and expertly melded them together to form the perfect tattoo. He was friendly and skilled and made my friends and I feel welcome. They do great work, they're clean, and I go away with a new pretty piece of art that I'll never tell my parents about, even though I paid for it with the hundred dollar bill my dad just handed to me. Always heard good things about the place, went in here for the first time a year ago to get a $50 flash day tattoo with a friend, and ended up getting 2 tattoos. I've gone back for every tattoo I have since. Jamie King is my go to guy, he's done almost all of the work on my right sleeve. He's quick, and can always draw exactly what I want from the crazy examples I give him. This shop feels like home, I could sit in here for days. I always enjoyed tagging along with my boyfriend to sit and hangout when he got tattooed. His go to girl was Emily. Best traditional shop in the northwest. I've been to Liberty Tattoo for a few different pieces since I moved to Seattle in January 2016. Wicked nice shop and all around good folks working there. It was hard to pick an artist, especially for American traditional tattoos, because each artist at Liberty does a kickass job. I've been going back to Chris Ayalin for all my pieces. The shop is cash only, and for all you tattoo shop browsers, remember you pay for quality so don't choose a shop/artist based on anything other than that. Sent these guys a message off of their website asking for a cost and time estimate for a shoulder/ arm tattoo. I'm seriously weighing the option of either removing or covering a small existing arm tattoo. Here was their very confusing and very rude response: That's not how this works... REVIEW #600 goes out to something dear to my heart: body art. I chose to get my most recent tattoo at Liberty for a few different reasons. One, my guy at Lucky Devil was impossible to get in touch with. Two, the guy at Artcore wouldn't do a design I brought in (different than what I ended up getting). Three, I am The Most Dedicated Yelper In The World and I honestly wanted to add something new to my Inked Up List! Liberty came recommended by my waxing girl and it has great reviews. I paid a visit back in the spring and liked the feel of the shop. I eventually decided on Artcore instead, but after being rebuffed I decided to head back to Liberty. Every staff member I interacted with was friendly, which is not always the case with tattoo shops. The shop is pretty small (there are only five artists) and has a nice, laid back vibe. The walls are covered with flash, most of it old timey Sailor Jerry stuff. Not my cup of ink, but hey, it's someone's. Couple things to note: Liberty is right off The Ave so some crazies may wander in from time to time. It is conveniently located by several bus stops as well. Do note this is a cash only establishment! I selected Emily (the first time I've been tattooed by a chick since 1995!) and brought in my references. She was able to get me an appointment a week or two after I dropped in for the consultation. There was a $20 fee to hold my appointment, which was taken off my grand total. I brought in several images of the Blues Brothers and we talked about what elements I liked and didn't like. When I came back for my appointment she had a perfect picture waiting for me. Emily was patient when I had her change the placement of the stencil three times. We chatted while she was working. The music they were playing was awesome. She also touched up my last tat (not free since it isn't her work) and it looks way better now. I love my Jake and Elwood -- Emily did a really stellar job. I was at a party last weekend and a guy said it made him feel like all of his were crap because the linework is so clean! Overall I couldn't be happier... except I'm pretty sure I had a bad reaction to the ink. The tat did some weird things while healing and my arm is still a bit tired/sore feeling three weeks later. Now, I in no way blame Liberty. It's always the risk you take because tattoo ink isn't regulated by any governing body (Holy Scary FYI) and that's why you sign a waiver beforehand. I don't think there's anything I can do about it and I know it has more to do with me than the ink or Liberty. But just thought I'd throw it out there as a general cautionary tale. Aside from my unusual reaction to the ink, I would not hesitate to recommend Liberty as a tattoo shop for your permanent body decoration wants and needs. And remember, CASH ONLY!!!! read more

Aron is a talented artist and a super cool guy. My boyfriend and I came in for back to back tattoos. Aron is laid back and doesn't have an ego. His work is excellent and exactly what we both wanted. Both of our tattoos were completely different in style. I appreciate that Aron has his own traditional style, but is very diverse in technique and can accommodate any client's needs. I asked for a thinner line work piece with grey toned shading and he nailed it. I will definitely come back for more work, thanks for then session! read more

I have spent sixteen hours getting tattoed by Jamie King, he is awesome. My first session with him was eight solid hours, me being from Arizona it had to be done in a day and he was super cool about it. Jamie has only gotten better through the years and I have made around five trips to Seattle for tats. The shop is not intimidating like some can be, and the staff is friendly and inviting. Got a tattoo from Emily here a couple years ago (I am a lazy reviewer), and she was awesome. It was on the back of my neck and she kept hitting this nerve that would make me feel really woozy and nauseous... weird. So she sent her co-worker out to buy a bag of hard candy, because she said the sugar would help me out. Was totally cool about pausing so I could have a glass of water and recover, and never flipped me any attitude for, admittedly, being kind of a pussy. Liberty is full of talent. The artist I've worked with on two pieces, now, is Jamie King. He's extremely efficient, with clean lines and no sacrifice in quality. Very reasonably priced. Good enough artists but really bad service. I got a tattoo here in 2009 of Marilyn Monroe, it was done free hand by Matt Areola who seemed like a nice guy at first. This was my first professional tattoo and I still like it. I was told that I would get at least one free touch up (which it needed badly) in a week, I called to schedule the appointment and was told to come in the next day for it. Sadly when I went in he was no where to be found so I left all my information for him with a female tattoo artist. A month later I still didn't recieve a call so I gave them a ring. They were very short with me and told me that he never said he would do a free touch up. I am still pissed about this because my tattoo looks pretty uneven, especially in the eyes and eyebrows, and I also spent over $600 on it. If you go here make sure it is something simple and punk like where you don't need a touch up. read more

I moved up to Seattle in February and while I had six tattoos before going up there, I'd never met someone who clicked with me as a tattoo artist. A friend at work recommended a few places but Liberty was right down the street from me. I was greeted by Emily (the person who was recommended) and she was/is hands down, perfect! My sister was a tattoo virgin! We both went to Emily and even though she is great with her own sketch work, she did my Zelda hearts perfectly! A few months later, I was ready to start my sleeve. If I don't have something someone created for me, I SUCK at telling people what I want. My general speech for Emily went like this, "I want this Snow White picture... In a mirror, ya know?" She was SUPER excited and when I came back to get it, even though I was vague, it was EXACTLY what I wanted! I got the huge piece all at once and we talked about so many things! (I even got her to want to read Harry Potter). I moved to California few days ago and got a realistic looking wolf on my inner, upper arm (painful, ugh) and my experience was amazing as always. I will wait and save up for a flight up to Seattle JUST to get a tattoo from Emily. Everyone was super nice to me and the work I saw others do was amazing as well! Their prices are much better than I've seen before, especially for the great quality of work! Emily really likes to make sure that everyone she tattoos is getting exactly what they want, even if it takes her all night. My husband recently went in for his first tattoo at Liberty Tattoo (I'm yelping for him since he doesn't use yelp). We were very impressed from the moment we walked through the door. He had emailed in prior to see about setting up an appointment and they said he could just walk in which is what we did. When we got there it was us and two other groups of people with about 5 of us requesting a tattoo all at the same time. Emily is who helped us initially and she was very friendly and helpful, we arrived first out of the three groups but they asked if we were okay going last since the others were very small pieces compared to what my husband was getting which we were more than fine with. We sat for about thirty minutes but were occupied looking at all their neat art work there, it was a great environment. In the mean time Emily took down his information and then Tomas (Tumbleweed Tomas) came out to discuss the piece. My husband loves traditional style tattoos which is why we chose this shop and Tomas had three sketches of black panthers that he had previously drawn up and was waiting for someone to want. We went in there with some basic references but were hoping for the artist to have their own twist on it which matches perfect with Tomas's design. We ended up his third design which Ry was very excited for and as was he. Then came time for us to head back and Tomas was very friendly to talk to and got it done fairly quickly even for it being a good size tattoo with color. We paid $275 for it and while sitting there I heard a few people coming in and when they got their quote they would complain that it was expensive. How both my husband and I see it is you simply get what you pay for, we had absolutely no issue paying what we did because it will be on his body forever and you're paying for your artists time and skill. If you want to find the cheapest price for a tattoo then I would look else where because the artist here are all very talented and shouldn't have to defend their prices. All together we had a great experience here and will definitely be returning and recommending this place to others, thanks again Liberty Tattoo and Tomas for the great work! :-) read more

I went in for a small piece took less than an hour and they price gouged me 300 dollars for a simple black and white tattoo the artist was very cool and nice but whoever did the introduction and I payed to was super rude and shouldn't work in customer service or be allowed to talk to people. Wouldn't go back here to get a tattoo unless I enjoyed being ripped off. I could get the same tattoo up the street from my house for a 150 or less. read more
