Title: Avoid Tad Miller at All Costs - Absolute Worst Tax Service Experience Over ten years ago, I used this location and had a fantastic experience -- an 18-year-old preparer handled my taxes flawlessly. Unfortunately, she left for college, and when I recently decided to give this place another try, they recommended Tad Miller. That was the biggest mistake ever, and I will never go back. I've had many tax preparers do my taxes with no problem whatsoever. However, Tad is the only worse experience I have ever had, and the man is very unprofessional. From the moment I sat down with him, he made stupid jokes and just irked me, but I went ahead anyway as he processed the paperwork. This was mid-February, so plenty early before the deadline. He told me he needed a certain document emailed to him since I didn't have it with me, so he paused everything. After repeated attempts to email him the documents, I never got so much as a "got it, I'm on it." I called and he never responded or called back when I left a message. When I finally got him on the phone, his tone made it clear he was not happy to hear from me at all. I asked if he'd received my email, and he said he had. Well there you go -- why not tell me that in the first place? Anyhow, it's already early April and he tells me he has to file an extension, despite me coming to see him back in mid-February. Are you serious? So then I played the waiting game again, and when he finally finished the tax forms, he calls at 11:55 PM and says he emailed the documents and needs my signature before midnight or it'll be late. Mind you, this is five minutes to midnight on a weekday -- what am I doing at that time? Sleeping, because I have work the next day. So I didn't get the message until the next day at my computer at work. Are you seriously giving me a five-minute heads-up before midnight when people go to bed way earlier than that on a weeknight? So I got a penalty for being late -- because of him. A few months later, he still couldn't finish the work, so Veronica had to step in and complete my tax forms for me. This is now July. WTF. And on top of that, he still didn't give me back my sensitive documents with my personal information -- that didn't happen until November. He really worked on my patience, and I wanted to scream at him, but he had my sensitive information, so I had to bottle all that anger and frustration in. Anyhow, this man is in the wrong business -- maybe he should be flipping hamburgers, because 18-year-olds can clearly do his job a lot better than he can. This man is the worst, and I will never go back to Liberty Tax. If you have to go there, go see anyone else but not Tad. Stay away from Tad Miller at all costs -- this is a warning to you. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this Liberty Tax Service affiliate. I worked with Tad Miller and found the service unprofessional and extremely unreliable. I came in more than two weeks ago because I'm behind on my taxes and wanted to confirm they could handle my situation before investing time. Tad assured me it was fine. I had already uploaded multiple tax documents through the Liberty Tax portal, and after our appointment I spent about six hours going through two years of records (bank statements, healthcare-related receipts, W-2s, investment statements, etc.) and uploaded everything clearly labeled and organized in the portal. The next day, I notified him that all documents were uploaded. After that, I received no meaningful updates. A week passed with no email, no call, and no portal communication. When I called, I was told it would likely be done by the following Monday. Monday came and went with no update. I called again and still got no progress report or clear timeline. Voicemails were not returned. Beyond the lack of communication, the office environment was concerning. The space was noticeably disheveled, including torn flooring and trash on the floor, and it did not appear clean or maintained. Tad's appearance was also very unprofessional. Most importantly, during my visit he asked inappropriate personal questions unrelated to taxes (including questions about race/ethnicity), brought up political opinions, and asked who I voted for. He also made very uncomfortable, discriminatory remarks about other groups of people, which was completely unacceptable in a professional setting. I cannot recommend this location. If you need a tax preparer who is responsive, professional, and respectful, I suggest going elsewhere. read more

I have been doing my taxes with the Alvarado Liberty tax for years now. But this year the experience has been quite bad. They have been having quite a bit of churn, it appears. I was told I am getting a refund, looks like someone had goofed; I ended up owing taxes after they postponed filing. And I had to pay additional fines after that. The filing of taxes I owe is fine, but the multiple confusing messages on whethere I owed / not owed and the exact figure I owed etc., were all messed up. I typically do my taxes via turbo tax because they are relatively simply to handle; however, this year it was tricky. I got married, bought a new home, and had a student loan for the first time. I knew my husband and I needed to finally bite the bullet and find a tax person. Thankfully, a friend recommended Dan! Dan was awesome. I have been with this location since 2005. Great service, great people, very professional, reasonable cost for preparing very simple to very complex taxes which I have had both of. The people are subject matter experts and I often consult with them about taxes, retirement, real state, and investments. I recommend them every day of the week and twice in Sundays. read more

I am so glad I came back! ...I have to admit, I tried to do my own taxes on Turbo Tax this year, JUST to see what I would get (my company offers an additional discount off of the TT online service). I went through the process, but at the end felt that my return was a little....off? Then I went back to Liberty Tax. Dan was professional, attentive, and I didn't wait for service at all. He really helped me maximize my return, and through his expertise found extra money that I missed on my own with Turbo Tax (stupid student loan questions!). I don't know why the ratings on here are so good. I looked them up after my mishap and found so many complaints on consumeraffairs.com and supermoney.com I wish I would have done more research. I worked 2 part time jobs last year. They charged me $318 to do taxes there. I could have done them myself, but it was my first time trying to correct things from last year. Either way I needed help and I felt they took advantage of me. I only got $100 back for whatever reason. She told me because I filed the same numbers on my job and the state doesn't take enough. Idk I thought it was ridiculous, but I had to pay. She brought it down to $218 but even I still knew that was too much. Unfortunately Dan is growing his business and now managing their San Jose location. Fortunately Avil his brother is at this location. Avil was very easy to talk to and helped me understand what I had to deal with this year as well as forecasting for next year with my new career path and income. The great thing is Avil is also a Real Estate Agent and we were able to discuss our residential ownership questions related to taxes on equity. Highly recommended! We have tried other Tax preparers and have good experiences with them however they are really costly. Dan took care of our taxes last year and was very happy with his service. He was able to save us fees while maximizing our refund. This year we returned, he introduced me to Chitra and she did the same thing.
