I had been having issues with my cats bowel movements and temperament. I was able to book an appointment same day as I called and got her in that evening. The staff was wonderful and very transparent about pricing the process and heard all my concerns and answered silly questions as this is my first cat! They gave me a list of emergency numbers and called me the next morning to follow up. Despite what ever issues my cat is having, I felt much calmer and prepared having visiting this vet clinic! I am writing this review because I firmly believe I was taken advantage of. I have owned dogs for years and have visited multiple veterinarians, so I fully understand how policy and standard care typically work. What happened here was unacceptable. I brought my dog in on Wednesday and paid $145, only to be told to put him on a bland diet. Fine. They called the next day to follow up, and I informed them that his symptoms had improved however he didn't poop . I was told to monitor him until the next day and that if the issue continued, I should bring him back -- especially since they would be closed over the weekend. The following day, I called again because nothing had changed. They told me to bring him in for a follow-up.asked if i could come right now because they were closing in an hour and again was closed on weekends I did exactly that. After the vet checked him and confirmed he was fine, I was hit with another $115 charge within 48 hours for the SAME issue. That is unreasonable and absolutely feels like a money grab. I have been to Penn Vet Hospital and other reputable clinics, and if you return within 48 hours for the same issue, you are NOT charged another initial fee. That is standard practice and basic customer service -- something this clinic clearly lacks. To make matters worse, the manager, Janelle, was combative, dismissive, and showed zero understanding or empathy. Her attitude alone would keep me from ever returning. Because of this experience, I will never return to this clinic and will strongly discourage others from going as well. Charging clients twice in 48 hours for the same issue is unacceptable, unethical, and shows where their priorities truly are -- and it's not with the animals or the owners. read more

Being a first time puppy owner has come with its new "parent" anxieties. Having a good vet came make these often difficult and trying times much easier. Liberty Vet came HIGHLY recommended to us from a few people, and now I understand why. The vet techs are as sweet as can be. You can tell their passion for animals and love in what they do truly through their demeanor and approach. Dr. Andy has been our primary vet thus far and has been wonderful. Our puppy, Mabel didn't even flinch or notice the multiple shots she has gotten with their distraction techniques and care. They take their time to answer any questions without judgment, but, at the same time, make the process quick and efficient. The overall vibe in the clinic is bound to make even the most anxious pup and pup parents feel at ease. I will too now recommend Liberty Vet to anyone in the Philadelphia area. Updated after Business Response 09/12/25 - I expected a response that failed to address the problem meaningfully. I didn't expect they would prove my point as well! As a consumer experience person by trade (30 yrs) and a consumer advocate by passion I feel a responsibility to sound the alarm about this practice for what appears to be serious shortcomings in sr. pet care. I did a yelp search of the 1 and 2 stars and largely their experiences reflect my own - that my senior dogs aren't getting quality care from this practice. Their response below proves this - she focuses only on my comment about price (which are astronomical but if they reflected high quality care, then they would not be an issue. Cost is an issue BECAUSE the care is substandard for my sr. pets and it appears from other issues posted here, they are not skilled in care for Sr pets and/or those with more complicated medical needs. ) What's more concerning is this practice appears not to listen - I have shared case notes are not reflective of the conversations and yet they persist - even with this admin putting in case notes for me to transfer implying I could not afford surgery for my dog when they never mentioned surgery in the first place. They said he had a small hematoma on his ear which would resolve on its own - it hasn't - it's gotten bigger - and when challenging them on it, I discover the doctor put in case notes she discussed surgery with me but I declined which was a flat out lie. Now add this to the fact that in two years - only 2 years - I have spent almost $5K on my sr. dog care with this practice and they absolutely are not thriving. And reading the note below, she states the reason their annual cost more this year was because they didn't do it last year? No? Why not? And when I review their records from last year where I paid $1800 to your practice, you're now telling me nowhere in that $1800 was an annual Sr. pet check up? And further, why have I been charged over $1400 this year when it says in May "annual" and then again in September "annual." This practice isn't listening to constructive feedback as I'm experiencing the same issues as others did 4 years ago. Advice to practice - stop price gauging and invest in delivering comprehensive pet care from cradle to grave and please modernize your offices. read more

My wife and I were loyal customers here for 7 + years. Despite a few missing medications during visits and some occasional misdiagnoses...were were pretty much satisfied with the care our pets were given. With all that being said it pains me to say that won't be returning! My wife and I have two dogs, 1 a senior with heart issues and a puppy with a handful of new health issues that need attending to. The treatment the Liberty techs showed us a few days ago was inexcusable. With two sick dogs, I had driven my puppy in the rain and rush hr traffic from S. Philly to be seen. The techs were extremely short and rude to me and my wife over the phone, finally handing us a bag of meds at the door saying "give this to him" when picking up my puppy. No thank you, we hope he feels better and here are the instructions...nothing. When double checking to see if the right meds were in the bag (they of course were not) I drove back and called from outside in the parking lot. They were unapologetic, asked me "what meds I would like to give my puppy?" (as if I'm supposed to know this) and offered no discharge instructions on how to treat my sick puppy who has been violently puking and diarrhea'ing for 2 days straight. The doctors were sweet when calling us to go over their prognosis, but did very little to make up for the awful tech treatment we faced shortly after. After fighting with the techs to finally give me the meds / prescription food I was originally expecting to get for my puppy via the earlier call from the doctor, they brought me out the correct meds w/o any apologies for their behavior...knowing that I had made two trips from S. Philly I'm rush hour / the pouring rain. Just handed it to us with no instructions just to get rid of us. At one point the tech had the nerve to say to me "well some patients have an idea as to what meds they'd like to give their pets before they come in"....if that's the case, what are they paying Liberty Vet for?!? They expect everyone to be versed in animal medicine....crazy! They demanded we pay the checkup bill, which we did...without offering any final saving grace. So we won't be back, not worth the trouble. And to think of all the money we've given this place over the last decade and they treated us like scum when we needed them most. If I could giver less than one star I would. This is difficult to write but I have been putting off for a few months and feel like it is the responsible thing to do to warn others. My usual vet was injured so I came here with my cat who was geriatric and had a new dx of diabetes. First saw Dr Perrone and she was nice and very gentle with my cat. Brought my cat back for blood glucose curve and it seems to go well. Vet told me to give cat too much insulin and she bottomed out but I was able to revive her and reduce her dose. She was responding to treatments and had regained some strength in her rear legs and her hair was growing back All but one of front end staff were pleasant and would respond quickly. I was told I should bring my cat back for blood work so I did. A mistake I will regret forever. The vet this time was the clinic owner- Dr Patton. The office was having computer issues but that is how it goes sometimes. They took my cat back to draw blood. Dr Patton brought her back about 10 minutes later seeming rather angry with her. I put her back in her carrier and the cat was clearly upset and crouched in back of carrier. Thsi is a cat who had been to the vet no less than 60 times in the past and always did great and everyone loved her. She also was less than 5 lbs at this point and 17 with multiple conditions. Dr Patton said in an angry tone "she fought us" and "she isn't going anywhere. There is ALOT of fight left in her!" When we got home my cat had trouble walking. Within 2 days her body was paralyzed and she was having trouble swallowing. 2 other vets were consulted and thought it was due to trauma in her neck area. I hope her condition would improve but given her condition I had to say good bye to my sweet little cat less than a week after her encounter with Dr Patton. I can adequtely convey how I feel about that person. I find in horrible and incredible that that needed to handle such a small weak creature in such a rough manner and that they don't employ cat calming techniques. Dr Patton clearly has anger management issues and should not be allowed to practice as a vet. During the vet visit I asked about a newly available pain med for cats and she knew nothing about it. When I spoke with her on the phone very briefly the next day she mentioned she read about the med but she did not offer to get. She did not care if my cat was in pain. Not her problem. I was in shock over the entire experience. My cat was not going to live forever but she deserved better than being harmed in this way. It was my job to keep her safe and get her good care but I failed by bring her here. Please don't make my mistake. read more

I wished my experience with Liberty Vet had been more positive. My dog's previous vet was awesome but hard to get in touch when we needed her so we decided to try out Liberty Vet Clinic. The staff were nice and friendly. The vet was knowledgeable but i felt like i was dealing with a salesman who was more interested in upselling their products at the clinic. I decided to go with buying the products since i was there. A comprehensive visit with meds/vaccines came up to $400. It is what it is. It was a little more expensive than what my old vet use to charge (the soft cone dollar here was $40 for an 18 lb. dog) but it was convenient. I recently placed an online order to restock on my dog's heart worm meds and Liberty vet denied my order. I received a voicemail from one of the staff stating they do not authorize online orders since they can provide the same service at their clinic. I understand this place is trying to make money but telling me to only shop with them turned me off. It did not seem as if they had their clients' best interest at hand. I am disappointed but I will be changing vets again. read more

We've been taking our three dogs to Liberty since it opened, and I have to say it's the best clinic for pets I've experienced. Dr. Patten clearly loves animals - she gives ours kisses- and they know that. Even in stressful situations like injections, they trust her. Our oldest dog has always growled at the vet and tried to hide, but not with Dr. Patten. She's also great at keeping the humans calm; she inspires confidence. I took my dog here for the first time a few days ago and had a great experience. We moved the area within the last year and were looking to establish a new local vet. The clinic is smaller than some but is clean(!!) and bright. The front desk staff were all friendly and helpful. The vet who we saw was knowledgeable and really nice. They never tried to sell me exclusive products and were pretty fair and honest in my opinion. Lastly and most importantly, they were great with my dog and so happy to meet her, which sold me. Still feeling this place and the vet out. The staff has been nice to me and my pet. I wish they would take on another vet or be open more regular hours. Everyday, the hours are different, several days being part-time at best and none on the weekends. I'm glad that they are so close, but the cost of treatments are not less expensive in comparison to the well-established vets and practices a little further out. If I'm willing to give this newcomer a chance, make it worth my while. FYI, Put a trash can with bags for doggie doo near your door (pillar?). In the pantheon of veterinary medicine, one has a wide range of choices. Some vets seem to be just animal lovers who were able to find a way to allow their passion to become their means of livelihood, some are the crazy cat lady who somehow slipped through approvals board, others are doctors who found a bigger bond with the four-legged than the two, some are clinical and precise but with the bedside manner of Dr Spock, whilst others still are those listless souls who care more about the money than the profession. I have been to all sorts. I will tell you most of them should go back to running some pun-based doggy day care. In my many years of trying to find a competent practitioner that cares appropriately for my dogs (but not to an insane extreme where I worry the vet may abduct them if given a window of opportunity) I have had more failure than success. I am glad to say that today the search is over; the peak has been reached, a caring vet with the skills of the finest neurosurgeon, with a lovely manner and true passion for her work. Your pet and companion could not be in safer and more comfortable hands than with Dr Patten. She is at the cutting edge of her practice; she specializes not only in the proper care but knows the latest research. If you care about your dog you are making a mistake by going anywhere else for his or her healthcare. Kudos Dr Patten. Recently, one of my senior cats, Jinx, suffered an injury and severe infection in his right rear paw. For various reasons, my regular vet was not available. At wits end, I called Liberty Veterinary Clinic in the morning and was given an appointment for the same afternoon. From reception through diagnosis and treatment, Jinx and I have been treated w/the utmost professionalism, courtesy, and friendliness! The office and examining rooms are very clean, yet welcoming. The staff handled Jinx w/care and kindness. Dr. Perone explained everything fully and clearly. I felt that we both were "in very good hands." Our follow-up visit was equally impressive! Dr Patten is the most compassionate and caring vet I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I as so happy to see she is opening her own clinic. Roxborough is very lucky to have such an elite animal doctor in their area. Dr. Patten, you are truly wonderful you show a love and compassion for the animals that is lost today. Thank you all for everything you have done for all of my pets!!!! My story with Dr. Patten is a bit long, but a worthy read: I was extremely lucky to have Dr. Patten treat my precious pooch, Spanky, our 85 lb American bulldog mix, last year. Two days before Thanksgiving 2013, I took my Spanky to the vet because he just didn't seem right. I could not pinpoint anything, but knew he was not feeling well. I called on the previous Monday night and I was given an appointment the next evening. Unfortunately, after a brief exam, I was told he had a very large tumor in his abdomen he needed emergency surgery. We were extremely distraught. Our Spanky was so special and the thought that we could lose him was incomprehensible. He was only 7 years old! We brought him back the next day and Dr. Patten reiterated everything that we were told the previous evening, this is likely to be cancer. She seemed as heartbroken as we were, when she conveyed the information. Thankfully, Spanky came through the surgery minus his spleen and a 5.7 lb tumor, however, he was extremely anemic, and needed to be transferred to a critical care facility. Dr. Patten called us several times that day to keep us informed and made all of the arrangements for us to transfer him to VSEC, where he spent the night. We were able to bring him home on Thanksgiving evening but he was still very anemic, so we had to take him back to the vet the next day to have his blood checked. They did the blood-work without charge. The following Monday we had to bring him again. I asked if there were many of dogs in the waiting room, one of the ladies told me to go into the closed grooming room. She knew I didn't want Spanky stressed. A few minutes later Dr. Patten came down to the grooming room to see him. She was ecstatic about how well he was doing and told him, "I have been thinking about you all weekend", needless to say, I was extremely touched by her concern. During that visit, she sadly gave us the bad news, Spanky had hemangiasarcoma, an incurable cancer. She was very honest with us and gave us our options. Sadly on January 13, 2014, we lost our dear Spanky to cancer, but without the knowledgeable, compassionate people at the vet office, we would not have been able to spend one more Christmas with him. Dr. Patton even called me on the evening of January 13. She was told about Spanky and she just wanted to check to see how we were doing. How amazing is that!!!!! A couple of weeks later, I saw a post about 2 old dogs that were abandoned in a dog park, a boxer and an amercan bulldog. I inquired and subsequently adopted both dogs. Once again I immediately took them to the vet and saw Dr. Patten. She was so happy to meet my new additions and examined them thoroughly. She gave me good news that despite their age and obvious issues I was aware of already, they had no underlying problems that she could see. The next thing I knew, she had left the vets office and I was told that she was opening her own clinic. Although all of the doctors I saw at the clinic were wonderful, I was still devastated that my pets would no longer see Dr. Patten for their vet care. I searched the web and and I was relieved to find the FB page for Liberty Vet Clinic. I wish Dr. Patten as much success as the love and compassion she shows the animals she treats. YES! I love Dr. Patten and the comprehensive and personalized care she and her team provide. She has an ability balance being professional and thorough while being crazy calm and patient. She's so easy and all GENUINE. Actually, that is for sure my favorite attribute of hers. Man, did THAT come in handy when we had a big scare w/our first (canine) baby. He all of a sudden became paralyzed and I started to spin out. Dr. Patten was totally unfazed by my crazy and as soon as I stop rambling she gave me a plan of action to get our little dude well again. I'll never forget it. She helped me move from reactive to proactive in the matter of 5 minutes. Our dog had back surgery, a quick recovery and was back to his normal self in great time. I have been going to this clinic since January, with two different dogs. The clinic is nice and although the week end hours are not great, appointments are easy to get and there is no waiting. I was asked by an organization that I belong to if I would recommend my vet a few months ago, and I realized that I could not because I was not yet convinced of my opinion. I learned the hard way why I had been uncertain. It was a disease as serious as IMHA that was diagnosed at the clinic to learn that Dr. Patten does not have the people skills (otherwise known as EQ) to deal with clients in distress. She further was not well informed on IMHA (which I learned after researching the disease for 3 days afterwards) and could not assist me in making the right decision at the moment of the diagnosis. The most unbelievable fact however is that my puppy developed IMHA within a week of Dr Patten neutering him. IMHA has many causes, among them infections and surgery (I want to clarify that his wound healed nicely, so if there was an infection it was internal). And that was it, one moment I was walking into the clinic with by buddy and the next I was leaving without him forever. I don't believe Dr. Patten has been a veterinarian for very long and my experience taught me a very hard lesson. Another incident with my other dog: I needed a travel certificate and proof of rabies vaccination certificate to travel with him. He was vaccinated elsewhere and the rabies certifacate had not been signed by error. Normal protocol in my opinion is to ask the client to contact the previous vet and have the certificate signed, which is the most logical and easy thing to do. Dr. Patten however recommended that I re-vaccinate my dog to have a signed certificate. (I obtained it without any problems 4 days later in the mail after calling the vet that had vaccinated him). Why would she have done such a thing? Money? In both instances I have to ask myself where the RISKS of over-vaccinating and over-medicating taken into account??? I don't often write reviews, but I owed this one to my beloved lost friend, and all the other dogs out there. read more

We have been going to Dr. Patten since she opened in December of last year. We have 3 dogs of our own and we help to run a dog and cat rescue. We have now visited Dr. Patten with well over 50 animals over this time. Dr. Patten has always treated our animals with great care and treats them as if they were her own. Being a rescue, we are used to being treated like a second class citizen and the care we have received by many other vets was mediocre at best. This has never happened with Dr. Patten or her staff. When I choose a vet there are a few criteria I consider to be important for both my personal animals and my rescue animals. 1. They need to care, sincerely care. Dr. Patten does not phone it in. She is thoughtful and committed to each cat or dog we bring to her care and she treats them like they are her own. 2. She doesn't simply bring us in and move us out like we are on a conveyor belt. Each case matters to her and she is committed to the best possible outcome for that animal. 3. Dr. Patten doesn't run up meds, treatments, bloodwork, etc when it is not necessary.
