The Animedic location on Jamestown Ave is immaculately clean and cute! This clinic is Covid-19 cautious, everyone wears masks and waits near the doors at the front. There is ample street parking outside and the veterinary clinic is easy to locate. The treatment rooms are spacious, cute and adorned with animal lover art. Dr Jones genuinely demonstrates professional, pet-centered care. She is compassionate, answers questions with kindness, and exudes a strong passion for all animals. She always goes above and beyond, fitting us in or managing requests, as if we were her own family. "Meow" I was lucky my daddy "Meow" notice something was very wrong with me with that he took me right away to see you. First: "Meow" you took my temperature, 106.5 that was not normal, then you took blood from me, 42,000 white blood cells! Knowing that wasn't good for me you took action; you gave me an injection of "Convenin "whatever that may be to me as a cat" Then you gave me antibiotics to fight off this very bad Infection. I was "Meow" so out of it for days, no water, no pooping, no eating or jumping all over the place. Your assistant calls the next day to make sure I was alright, but I wasn't so my dad took me back where you gave me fluids and another antibiotic. "Meow" Your office call again the next day to see how I was doing if there was any change. On the 4TH day things started to change for me! "MEOW, MEOW" I started to eat, drink, go to the bathroom and cuddle up to my Dad. Since I moved to Philly, I have been seeing Jennifer. She is very knowledgeable, caring, and friendly. I really like her. The office is doing a very good job of COVID-19 Protocol from the early on. So, I feel very safe with this clinic. The reason I give only 4 stars is that the office is a bit sloppy - after a blood test, doctor says "Office will call you", and staff says "Doctor will call you". So, there is a bit of disfunction here. I end up calling the office. And another thing is it seems like the staff turnover is a bit high? Can not say for 100% certainty, just my observation. That being said, I would rather see a great doctor like Jennifer with a bit sloppy office, than impeccable office practice and not so great doctor. And people are very nice here. 5 stars for Jennifer and 4 stars for office practice. I wish I can vote for 4.5 stars. read more

I love this vet office! They truly care about your pet and you! My cat got sick for the first time 3 years ago when my husband and I moved into our first apartment. Turns out he had worms because the upstairs neighbors cat had nasty fleas. So my cat groomed himself, ate a flea and got worms from it. Long story short, they figured it out right away and Derek was safe and sound! We've been going ever since! They are always so nice and explain everything calmly and lovingly. If you live near the roxborough, manayunk area, I would never suggest going anywhere else. Animedics will treat you like family. Also, another thing that stuck out to me the first time was they didn't look at me strange when I had to bring my cat in a letter plastic bin (with holes cut out) because I couldn't get him to go into a cat carrier. They acted like it was any old day and I didn't feel any kind of judgement. Luckily Derek now easily goes into a normal day carrier haha read more

You will not a find a more reasonable, compassionate vet. Period. I started taking my senior Yorkipoo to Dr. Jones after life circumstances separated my dog and I for a few years. Unfortunately once I got her back, she had several health issues that hadn't been addressed and needed surgery and spaying (at 10-yo). Dr. Jones did the surgery and Shorty remained in her care for years, until I reluctantly had to find another vet this year when I moved back to New York. Bringing a 15-year-old dog with chronic issues to a completely new vet is very scary, but Dr. Jones is an actual angel and found the time to still offer some guidance on a high-risk surgery her new vet recommended, despite Shorty no longer being in her care. Knowing that Dr. Jones & the Animedic remain invested in her well being as she transitions to a new primary care has brought me invaluable comfort and reassurance. I had tried and struggled with several other vets in the area, including some who had been wonderful before the pandemic, and didn't find anyone other than the Animedic who could help my very sweet, pretty young dog who has several health problems. I've been taking my rescue yorkie mix to The Animedic for all his check ups, boosters, and sick visits and I've only had great experiences so far. They do have online booking, but if you don't see a time that works for you, I would try calling their office. They have great hours and are open on Saturdays, which is much appreciated. I've met with Dr. O'Pella and Dr. Chizmar who were both lovely, knowledgable, and professional. One time, there was an issue with a prescription I had gotten filled for a 6 month supply, but I realized a couple months later that the pills were going to expire before the 6 month period. They exchanged them with no questions asked. There is usually street parking as their parking lot is currently under construction. I highly recommend them! read more

I took my 2.5 YO German Shepard, Luna, to the Animedic for severe itching around the ears. They told me it was a skin condition and prescribed prednisone along with an antibiotic. The itching never stopped, so I took my pup back, upon which time they simply renewed the same prescriptions. I specifically pointed out the ear issues, yet they tossed it up to "just a skin condition." Since the itching never stopped, I took Luna to see a different vet. This veterinarian did the check up with me watching and immediately swabbed her ears and discovered a severe ear infection. Do not take your pet to The Animedic. They do not perform thorough exams and miss obvious diagnoses. read more

I've taken my dog here a few times over the past years and the service was usually great. Recently they've been overwhelmed and under staffed and it shows in both their customer service and the way the pets are taken care of. About 6-8 weeks ago I called here because I noticed my dog had trouble urinating and one day she peed blood. I called to get her an appointment and they didn't have anything for about 2 weeks but said if she continued to pee blood take her to an emergency vet. Thankful she didn't pee blood again but she continued to struggle urinating and started peeing around the house which she never does so I kept her appointment. When I took her to the vet you are not allowed inside with your pet so I had to wait outside. My dog is 12 years old and mostly blind and shes a chihuahua shih tzu mix so she wasn't happy! Anyway they bring her out and say since it was only the one time don't worry about the blood in her urine but they wanted to remove a mass that was on her leg and proceeded to give me more information on that. I had the mass tested before and knew it was benign and so I wasn't really worried about it but said fine. I scheduled her surgery and on the day of the surgery explained she is still having trouble urinating can you do further testing on her bladder. They did a urine test and said the white blood cell count was high and she had a bladder infection but that the antibiotics that she was on due to the mass removal would take care of it and no further meds would be needed. Cool! She finishes her medicine which was about a 10 day supply and she's still having trouble urinating. I called and they said they would take a took during her stitch removal. So I take her back for her stitch removal and tell them to please check her bladder again because she's still having issues. They then prescribe her another 10 day medication that cost additional money stating that this is an overall medication that should take care of her issue. I give her that for 10 days and still no change. I call back and they say the next steps are to get an xray of her bladder. I called and spoke to Nikki on Monday Aug 24th and she stated that they would need to sedate my dog in order to get her xrays due to my dog being "spicy." Again she's old, blind, and you're not letting people into your office! The animals of course are going to be scared. So I ask for the quote on the Xrays and she said she would get back to me. I called this morning Friday August 28th because not only had I not heard anything AND my dog is still having trouble urinating (about 8-10 weeks at this point) but I also noticed that THERE WAS A STITCH LEFT IN HER SURGERY SITE as she's been biting at it for the past day or so. Nikki answers the phone saying she WAS going to call me today. She told me the next steps would be to get an xray and that in order to do that they would need to sedate my dog. I tell her about the stitch still left in my dog and I ask is it possible to just put muzzle on her I really don't deem it necessary to sedate an old dog just for xrays and shes says no she wouldn't be able to do that and to email a picture of the stitch. I said ok well what is the estimate. I was told her would get back to me with an estimate. So I explain to her that she said that the last time I was on the phone with her. She starts going on about how shes the only receptionist and has over 200 appointments to book and she KNOWS EXACTLY who I am and that she already told me she was going to call me but she has a lot on her plate and she doesn't want to deal with this. So I'm like Nikki I didn't ask for any of this I just want to get my dog taken care of and Nikki starts raising her voice and yelling at me. I'm a yoga instructor and do voice over work. I don't yell because it can literally affect my work. But Nikki starts to say I'm yelling and belittling her because I've "said her name like 47 times" and that she's going to send me my records and I can find another vet because she doesn't have to deal with this etc and hangs up on me. So I call back and she picks up again and continues to tell me that she KNOOOOW EXACTLY who I am that she has me on a list. I asked her to further explain what she means by that and she proceeds to say i'm Zuri's parent and she has me on a list to call. RIIIGHT! Anywho she hangs up on me again and this time lets me calls go to voicemail a few times. After about the 3rd/4th time of calling back a woman named Kayla I believe picks up and answers my questions and proceeds to say they are overwhelmed and understand and they have a lot going on but she does a better job at explaining why they would need to sedate my dog for xrays. She said she would send a quote for the xrays and Zuri's records. It's 3pm and they close at 1pm on Fridays and guess what I still don't have quotes or records! You're better off taking your pet elsewhere! They're to busy for your business! read more

Huge lack of customer service that will affect getting any kind of help within a reasonable timeframe-the actual vet was decent. Took my puppy in on the 24th for a UTI-again the vet was awesome-very personable and knowledgeable. My puppy was on antibiotics for 10 days, 2 days after the last pill her UTI came back. I called on Thursday the 6th asking for help, and was told the vet I saw wasn't in and that she would call me Friday. I explained my puppy was in an immense amount of pain and if any one of the doctors or techs could call me ASAP that would be appreciated. Was told I'd receive a call in an hour. No one called so I called back. The receptionist said they were all busy the rest of the day and if I didn't get a call that same day it would be first thing Friday Morning. **I literally didn't get a call from anybody until this afternoon and today is the 13th. An entire WEEK and nobody reached out to me about my puppy being in pain.** Of course I didn't wait that long to treat my pup. I waited the rest of Thursday and Friday to receive a call from them, still didn't hear from anyone so Friday afternoon I made an appt for Saturday for another vet who I will continue to see instead of the Animedic. She's being treated again for a UTI. I called the Animedic Saturday after she was seen at the other vet office, and left a voicemail for my records to be faxed over to the new vet and even after my 2 calls on Thursday, voicemail on Saturday-it took them an entire WEEK to respond to me. Ridiculous. I let the tech know on the phone I wouldn't be returning and what happened and all she said was "oh, okay well I can email you the records". Really? No apology? No, "I'm sorry your dog was in pain and we neglected to call you back after a whole week although you called 3 times?" I was shocked. Whoever I spoke to didn't even seem to be bothered at all that I was upset with the services. It's such a shame as this vet is 9 minutes away from my house and I did like the actual Vet. But because of the lack of care and customer service of the remaining staff especially when my dog was in a lot of pain-I will not be going back. Go see Dr. Broder instead at Plymouth Animal Hospital. He is awesome, staff is attentive and wonderful and his pricing is Very Competitive. My mom takes her 2 cats and dogs there and now I will be taking Both of my 10 week old puppies to him. read more

I never thought of getting my dog a thundercoat for being reactive. The major reason I am writing this review is from my recent experience with them. We brought my dog is because she was limping and not putting any pressure on her hind leg. She ended up needing a TPLO surgery to repair her ACL tear. Instead of doing it in house and getting the money for the surgery themselves, Dr. Heller referred us out to the best doggy surgeon in PA. They are doing all of her after care and xrays. They are very upfront with the costs and I know going in what I am going to be paying for. We couldn't be happier. read more

We've taken our pets to Dr. Jones for years (3 cats and a dog) - we followed her from her previous practice to opening her own location. We drive 30-40 minutes from Blue Bell because of the care she provides. When our cat Mulder needed to be euthanized, she came to our home to take care of him compassionately, and we had to beg her to charge us. Finally, when we were looking for boarding services for our dog, all we needed to know about the location we chose, was that Dr. Jones was their house vet; she's the Good Veterinarian Seal of Approval! The thing that we love and appreciate about Dr. Jones is that she seems to have a much less invasive instinct for pet care - where other vets we've gone to want to perform surgery or use drugs as the first recourse - Dr. Jones only goes that route when necessary. The technicians and staff are also wonderful. I highly recommend Dr. Jones and her team with your pets. read more

I mostly like this vet fine for standard visits, less a few points. I keep coming because it's so close and I don't want to keep my cats in the car longer than necessary, and the people who work here are very friendly. That being said, I find the quality of care really and customer service really inconsistent. In the last year and a half I've been bringing my cats here I've experienced things like being charged wrong amounts, being charged (and almost charged) for services not rendered, very long wait times for scheduled visits - all things that just require a little more organization than I think generally goes on here. I'd say it's about 50/50 per my experiences here, sometimes all is smooth but half the time, not so much. As for the care - I've had extremely varying experiences among vet techs. Dr. Jennifer Jones is wonderful, I really like bringing my babies to them. But some of the vet techs come in the room very loudly and abruptly which scares my animals. Some are graceful and calm and compassionate when administering shots or doing blood draws (using treats, feliway, calm voices, slow movements), other times my cats are screaming bloody murder and the energy is extremely stressful and I don't feel comfortable at all with the tech. I've experienced them administering shots to one of my cats and then becoming confused about dosing, leaving the room and returning to do the other cat, in a very flustered manner, leaving me in a tough position to feel trusting that all is done correctly. I plan to keep bringing my cats here for now, but did feel very inclined to write this review. Another note I'm sure beyond Animedic's control - the parking lot once available is no longer theirs. So it's street parking, which can be really tough in this area of Manayunk. read more

Ppl were really nice and they took good care of my little dog (itching and shots). They offered things we normally do not do but were not pushy or judgemental about us not doing all of those. I would give 3.5 if I could. I'm new to Philly from out of state so when my dog was suddenly in pain we needed a vet quick and I found animedic on Yelp. We made an appointment online (awesome). We arrived the next day 10min prior to our 1:00 appt. we filled out forms and then were taken back to a room at about 1:15. We did end up waiting for 30min (1:45) before Dr. Heller came in. I'm in healthcare and things come up so I'm not at all upset by wait time but it is something to note so others are aware. He listened to our concerns and was answering all of our questions. He suggested X-rays and those were done quickly in the office. He then came back to explain results to us. He was thorough and I appreciated that he gave us both the worst and best case scenarios. I'm not a fan of vets or even doctors who sugar coat. He was the right amount of honest while also being empathetic toward how scary it is to hear that there may be serious treatments needed in the future. He prescribed medications, explained what each was for (being in healthcare I knew but my bf did not). The pricing for medications, the exam, and X-rays was more affordable than I expected. About 1 week later my dog is definitely responding to treatment but I wanted to follow up with Dr. Heller to discuss future plans and how the X-ray results may have indications for changes in activity etc. The reason I feel that I can't give 5 stars despite the great care while at the office is because 3 days in a row twice a day I have called and no one picks up. There is no way to leave a message. I just wanted to let someone know that I'd like to have a brief 5min conversation about future plans for my dogs health. Why is it this hard to get in contact with a human being? This is super frustrating and makes me reconsider using animedic as my regular vet. What if something was seriously wrong and I couldn't get ahold of them? I expect that the vets are very busy but I can't even get ahold of an employee so they can leave a message that someone call me when it is convenient for them. I don't feel that is asking too much of my vet. I'd even feel comfortable with a tech passing along the doctors recommendations. read more

Listen, I wanted to like The Animedic. I really, REALLY did. It's only a few blocks away from where I live and when you have a puppy who gets carsick, these things matter. Unfortunately, there was just way too much negligence for me to tolerate. When we first started bringing our puppy to The Animedic, everything was okay. They were happy for us because we rescued a puppy and everything looked fine, etc etc. They called us immediately upon finding a problem with our dog's stool sample since he'd been in a kennel with his litter and we got antibiotics that day. We were super happy with the experience! It really only started getting hairy 6 months in when we got him neutered. First of all, there was very little orientation information shared with us regarding their process. I don't know what I don't know so I did as much research as I could and asked as many questions as I could but there were quite a few things that fell through the cracks including our drop off time. When we picked the dog up later that day, they said everything went really well and our little guy was fine and take him home. They said to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't play for the next three days to a week. They only gave us pain meds that he was supposed to take much later that night. When I asked if he was okay to go up and down stairs and get into bed, etc, they said "yes, of course, just watch him." They told us he had ONE suture and was perfectly fine to go home. As soon as we got home the dog was very suddenly completely disoriented from the anesthesia and wouldn't stop wandering around crying. Rationally, I knew it was the anesthesia, but, come on, my baby puppy had just had surgery! Of course I was spinning all sorts of awful scenarios in my head! So finally, I called The Animedic. They gleefully exclaimed, "Oh, yeah! He's been crying for hours now! That's so funny!" NOT. FUNNY. Like, at least tell me he'd been acting this way prior to us picking him up. Why would you not mention he'd been constantly crying? Why wouldn't you say something like that to me? For real? Anyway, the pain medication I was instructed to give him hours and hours later, they told me to just give it to him then. Which seemed a little reckless to me but, whatever. I'm not a vet. So I did it. (By the way, it didn't help at all.) Two days later, our dog had developed a SERIOUSLY swollen little nutsack. I tried to get him in to see the vet ASAP. As soon as we got there we saw YET ANOTHER PERSON (we'd seen about 6-7 different people by then just within this neutering process already) and they said, "Oh yeah, look at that, he's got a hematoma." When I asked how that had happened she said, "Has he been going up stairs or anything?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I SPECIFICALLY ASKED... Anyway, we got antibiotics, she told us to put HOT compresses on it, and we went home and made sure the dog didn't MOVE! A week or so later we got his ONE suture removed and his hematoma checked by yet another person. She asked if we had been using COLD compresses as that's a good idea for healing these kinds of afflictions. I rolled my eyes and let it go since he seemed to be healing just fine on his own. Fast forward three weeks once he was pretty well healed and we realized there was a SECOND suture in there! They hadn't taken it out or even NOTICED it! They had NO RECORD OF IT! Then, when we tried to get his Heartworm medicine for more than one month from their online pharmacy we were denied. The doctor explain that it was dangerous to do until he was a year or older. That I have no problem with. If it's dangerous, I definitely don't want to do it. I never communicated this to my husband and he stopped by in person to pick up extra heartworm meds and the woman asked "how many do you want?" he said, "how many can I get?" and she said, "As many as you'd like," knowing full well that our dog was under a year old (she had to pull our account up to sell him the meds at all). She sold him SIX. Which is APPARENTLY DANGEROUS??? I'm just saying I'm disappointed and it made me worried about the well being of my animal. We took our puppy to another vet to get his extra suture removed and that's where we'll be going from now on. I don't care if she doesn't have hip artwork up in the waiting room. I recently got an email from a doctor at the Animedic explaining that it was not an overdose of proin that my dog experience as I stated in my review from 2017, but an adverse reaction to the prescribed level of proin, and that my dog required a smaller dose. I wanted to update this review to reflect that information she provided to me. read more

The customer service here is nothing short of atrocious. Do yourself (and your pet) a favor by finding a different veterinary office.

I had to encounter under the sad circumstances of learning that my elderly cat had cancer and ultimately had Animedic help me put him down. The staff there was so kind and so thoughtful and really helped me through that terribly sad process. I also recently adopted a kitten through Animedic and it's been such a wonderful experience. I'm just always impressed by the intimacy of the staff and how they all remember my name and the kitten I adopted from them. The only downside is that they are rather pricey, but at least I feel like I am really paying for good service. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. read more
