Stopped in for a bottle of wine and a snack. We were greeted upon entry by a smiling bar tender who gave us a warm welcome. A nice wine list, and a full bar with some pretty upscale options! A nice selection of snacks, a perfect stop pre-dinner or for a light meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is nicely finished with plank floors, tin ceilings and rock walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A really nice warm feeling place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of comfy seating as well![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance when you first walk in is amazing! I loved all the real candles and rock walls. Very intimate vibes but still feels roomy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was excellent, kind and attentive. He was able to answer all our questions. He also made a delicious dirty martini! We will be back.

How in the world has this beautiful gem of a place been hiding under my nose the whole time I've lived in Omaha?! Nestled in the corner of a strip of stores, I had no idea what I was missing! I met a few girlfriends here before dinner and was immediately impressed upon entering. The ambiance is absolutely stunning. Lit candelabras accented the stone walls and enhanced the feeling you were in a swanky wine cellar in a multi-millionaire's home. It's dark and dim, but still warm and welcoming at the same time. Now I now it's a wine bar, but that wasn't my groove that evening. I'm sure their wine selection is superb, however I fell in love with their cocktail options. So you don't have to love wine to go here! The espresso martini is in the running for best I've ever had. Service was attentive, timely and kind. Such a lovely place, can't wait to bring my next out of town visitor here.

Wowwwwwwwwww! I have been missing out and immediately told my family when they come in town this is where I will take them. We walked in randomly one day and were so impressed. Haley was the bartender and she is so sweet, so helpful, and a hard worker. We actually went back a few hours later that day to try new cocktails because we loved it so much. The second time we were back she was watering the plants. Great hire, management! The paper plane is one of their most popular drinks and we'd order that and the dragonfly again! I love the wall of wine, it had some interesting wines that I'd go back and buy. It was quiet, it was dark though so be prepared. And it has a speakeasy feel to it. Loved this place, it's going to be my new go-to!

Barroco is the most unassuming, amazing little spot I had no idea existed! It's located in the corner of a strip mall, but once you enter, you are completely transported to another place! It is dimly lit with candles, yet warm and welcoming. The service was friendly, and the espresso martini was amazing! I only had the one drink, but I can't wait to come back and try more of their wine and cocktail offerings.

This is our favorite date night spot! So cozy and romantic. Phenomenal wine list that makes ordering easy. The staff is amazing and super helpful. It does get very loud in here with all of the stone walls so if you're looking for something quiet try to go in at off hours.

When we arrived, we were seated promptly and given time to look over the menu. There were plenty of options to choose from, with something to suit just about every palate. What impressed us most was that there appeared to be only one person working, and he was an absolute champ . effortlessly juggling multiple tables, crafting excellent cocktails, and taking the time to answer questions and make recommendations. Between the four of us, we sampled quite a few drinks and found every one of them fantastic. The cocktails were thoughtfully made, well-balanced, and showcased a lot of skill behind the bar.Great drinks, great service, and a pleasant surprise all around. This is exactly the kind of gem you hope to stumble upon.

I ordered an espresso martini, and the bartender mentioned he could make a salted caramel martini that wasn't even on the menu. It was decadent, perfectly balanced, and definitely strong--in the best way. It even came garnished with a Ghirardelli chocolate, which was such a thoughtful touch. Despite how busy it was, the bartender was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. I never felt rushed or like I was a bother, which really stood out. Excellent service, elevated cocktails, and a gorgeous bar, proof absolutely lives up to its reputation.

The Council Bluffs 100 Block is the oldest commercial neighborhood in the metro area. Dating back…read moreto 1853, most of the block's buildings celebrated their sesquicentennial a couple of presidents ago. Omaha's first newspaper was printed on this block. This block is older than the invention of cocktails, imagine that. It was pretty rough and full of scoundrels in those halcyon days: journalists, lawyers, land speculators, railroad magnates, Abraham Lincoln. Eventually things improved as saloons, social clubs, gambling halls and bordellos moved in. Today, the 100 Block is to Council Bluffs what Buckhead is to Atlanta and a new whiskey bar called The Barrel is in the middle of it. The Barrel is a swanky, crafty, well-appointed, beautifully decorated, two-story lounge featuring cocktails made according to original recipes with top shelf brands. No mixes, no shortcuts. Every drink is a double just as our shameless forebears intended them. The interior is full of local art including the Barrel sign over the bar. It's well lit with high ceilings reflecting the warmth of the architecture and the staff.     The night I stopped in was moderately busy for a Friday night before 9 p.m. A dozen or so patrons filled the upstairs bar room before wandering downstairs to the more lounge-y Bottom of the Barrel. This is where the bands play and the furnishings swing more to the comfortable side of things. There is a bar here as well, but the craft cocktails were being made upstairs that night. So back upstairs, I asked for a recommendation to show me the takeaway, the thing I should know about The Barrel. Now normally, if a bartender recommends a whiskey sour I assume he thinks I'm in high school or doesn't want a tip, but the gregarious gent behind the bar that night was telling sincere stories, and not just with his beautiful scalp tattoos. The Whiskey Sour was a great place to start. The simple classic has been denigrated for decades by shortcuts and mixes. But this Whiskey Sour is born again hard made with Cody Road Rye, fresh lemon, egg white and love for only $8. Spectacular. And foamy. There is a literal wall of 130 whiskeys at The Barrel Each shelf is higher than the last. Your taste is limited only by your credit. Their Old Fashioned had me at spherical ice, but I intend to return for more classics (Manhattan, Negroni, Tom Collins) or clever originals (Brockway Bulldog, Baltimore Zoo or The Night is Dark and Full of Terror). And there's beer. Exile Beatnik Sour and Lagunitas IPA ($5), Burning Skye Scottish Ale, Lucky Bucket Wide Eye Coffee Stout, Millstream Pale Ale, Brickway Maple Pecan Brown Ale, Empyrean Dark Side Vanilla Porter ($4.50) and Bud Light ($3). There is live music on Fridays and Saturdays, an open jam from 4-8 Sundays followed by an open mic until close, and comedy every second Wednesday. The Bottom of the Barrel has $3 premium wells on weekends and there is never a cover. With drinks like this, it's obvious why our ancestors were so unapologetic about drinking doubles.

For starters, we had the bacon-wrapped shrimp, which came with mushrooms on the side. It didn't look particularly appetizing when it arrived, but it was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms were especially good--salty without being overpowering, which I really enjoyed. To drink, I tried the sangria. It didn't particularly stand out, but it was still enjoyable. For my entrée, I chose the whiskey ribeye cooked medium-rare, and it came out exactly how I like it. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. The salad bar wasn't huge, but it had a nice variety of toppings to choose from. The atmosphere is rustic with very dim lighting, and there were a few TVs throughout the restaurant as well. It does get quite loud when it's busy, though. Our waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a good experience, and I will definitely be back.

But I'm not a huge fan. First, it's really, really dark and really, really noisy. Not a place for a conversation, especially if you are dining with kids. The salad bar is, well, meh. The tastiest part is the super sweet poppy seed dressing. As far as the stars of the show go, I've eaten several of their steaks. They've all been well marinaded and perfectly cooked, but the ribeye and strip had a lot of exterior gristle that should have been trimmed off before grilling. Meals come with a baked potato, and other sides are available. I wish creamed spinach and corn were options (it is the Cornhusker state, after all), but those are just my preferences. We made reservations weeks ago (we knew the College World Series would be in town) so we did not have the 2+ hour wait that less organized folks were complaining about. We were seated right away - yay, OpenTable! Service was very attentive, and our meal's timing was impeccable. Omaha has a lot of choices for carnivores, and The Drover is a long way from the worst I've tried. I'm just not not sure it's where I'll get my steak fix in the future.
