You call a toll free number and they then contact a Techician to let them know your needs. I wanted someone the same day and at a specific time. Within 15 minutes, I had a return call telling me when my technician would arrive. Just a few minutes after that, Jessica had sent me an introductory text. Right at the requested time, Jessica arrived. She was extremely pleasant and explained the entire process. She was very thorough and always verifying my granddaughter was comfortable. She engaged me and also made conversation with my shy granddaughter. I scheduled an appointment for a tech to come to my house and treat myself, my two little boys and my mom. So, thankful to get a tech within hours of calling to schedule the appointment. The tech was thorough and conscientious of time/cost management. She discussed in detail post treatment follow up procedures and provided written instructions as well. I felt the dispatch was misleading as to the equipment that would be used to detect the lice, however, the technique and equipment the tech used seemed to be effective and I'm thankful for a service that comes to me and does what I cannot do for myself. I discovered a lice egg in my hair on Wednesday. I had picked it up from my daughter apparently. It was gross enough to deal with her, finding it in my own hair sent me into panick mode. I, nor my duaghter, have ever had lice before. I had already treated her but now I needed the treatment. I put RID in my hair but needed my hair combed through. I was worried since my hair is very very curly and goes to nearly the middle of my back. My friend texted me the phone number to an establishment that ended up being the Lice Doctors. I called them and asked if they had any appointments and I was told that they would contact a technician to see how soon they could get to me and then they would call me back and let me know. My first mistake here was not asking how much this would cost but the cost information was not given to me either. I made the assumption that this service could not be more than $150. When the technician made it to my home I asked her how much the service was going to cost me and she responded that she did not know but it is charged by the hour and that I could call the number and find out. My second mistake was ASSUMING that this service surely could not be more than $60 per hour. SO I had her comb through mine and my daughter's hair. Now I provided all the items she used EXCEPT Dawn dish washing liquid soap. She poured olive oil on our hair. Combed through it with the nit comb I already had. Put the dishwashing liquid on our heads. I washed the soap out of mine and my daughter's hair. She used my blow dryer to dry my daughter's hair then did a dry comb with the nit comb we had. For myself, I blew out my own hair and then she did a dry search. When she finished she told us to follow up with nightly olive oil treatments and comb throughs for 2 weeks. That took nearly 3 hours so I told her to just let them know she was here for 3 hours. Now imagine my sheer shock to see a $375 charge on my CC the next day for this service!!!! I immediately called the Lice Doctors and asked them what the cost of this treatment is. I was told then that the cost is $125 for the 1st hour then $100 per hour after that and depending on how far the technician has to drive there could be a $50 transportation fee (which I was charged). I explained to the lady that this information was not provided to me when I called to make the appointment and that when I asked the tech she said she didn't know. Furthermore, had I been aware that the service was this expensive there would be know way in the world I would have went through with booking the service. She responded that she would take my information and have one of the owner's contact me and that the technician's should be knowledgeable about the cost of the service. When the owner returned my call she was less than sympathetic to the situation and even tried to make it out to be all my fault. The owner told me that the the same information is always given over the phone and the costs are given at that time and that I just didn't hear them when I was on the phone. I told her that that was not true because there was no mention of cost whatsoever. She then asked me "Well why didn't you ask?" I told her that I asked the technician when she got here and she said she didn't know. The owner immediately responded "well, that's not their job to know that. The cost information is given when customers call and it is on our website." I informed her that I did not get the number from her website that a friend had texted the number to me. Put quite simply, this woman came off as completely unwilling to come to any kind of solution for the misunderstanding. My only recourse seems to be informing others of this scam. To add insult to injury, this so called "olive oil treatment" they are peddaling to vulnerable customers is not even a proven effective form of treating head lice! I feel completely taken advantage of in a very vulnerable moment. Don't let my $375 mistake cost you too! read more
