I've missed you ever since I graduated college from UT Austin, and you continue to have some of the best and most awesome ice cream flavors I've ever known. Some of the everyday flavors that I thoroughly enjoy the most are: Coffee with Cream Goat Cheese, Thyme and Honey Hill Country Honey Vanilla Bean Texas Sheet Cake Some of the seasonal flavors that I've enjoyed throughout the year (depending on when you go) are: Red Velvet Peppermint Bark Tres Leches Cilantro Lime Great staff who takes great care of their customers well, has mostly indoor seating but has a couple outdoor as well. I finally got to visit Lick after they closed early last time. We got 3 flavors: Texas sheet cake, strawberries and cream, and cookies and cream. All of the ice cream was so smooth and creamy. Not grossly sweet -- it was custard-like. The strawberries and cream didn't taste like strawberry but was still good. The cookies and cream was the crowd favorite, but the Texas sheet cake would be a chocolate lover's dream. I have come here a couple of times so far. I usually stop in when I get my nails done from next door. I like that they have seasonal flavors. And they never have any issues with offering samples before you decide. This time I tried the seasonal flavors of Gingerbread, Red Velvet, No egg nog, and Candidd Pecan. The Candid Pecan was my favorite. So I went with that this visit. Last time I got the goat cheese, honey & thyme and I loved it. I like that there flavors are pronounced and you can tell exactly what you are eating. I can tell they put alot of time and effort and creativity in the product. And I like that. My only real complaint is they don't have half scoops. The single scoop is pretty large. I would love to be able enjoy 2 flavors with a smaller volume. They don't even have a kids menu? Meh - Lick is an Austin staple and they usually have some unique flavors, but I've never really been a big fan of their consistency. This time at this Houston location, I felt like all the flavors I tried had an icy consistency. I also wasn't that impressed with any of the flavors I tried. I ended up getting the Pecan Joy, which tasted similar to an Almond Joy, but with pecans. This flavor felt better in texture and was decent in flavor. I do feel like compared to the Austin locations, the scoop size here is better - either that or it was just the employee. Even though there are fond college memories tied to Lick, I feel that there are other, consistently higher quality ice cream shops in town. Worth the try for their unique flavors though. As one of two locations in the Houston area, this Lick in West U is by far the lesser known of the two. For nearly a year, they didn't even have a storefront sign, leaving folks like myself to discover them by chance. Now that the weather has gotten unbearably warm again; it is the perfect time to enjoy a scoop of what they do best: atypical ice cream with a gourmet twist. Most ice cream shops are on smaller side and this Lick is no exception. Aside for a cramped seating area, it's mainly a in-and-out experience. The counter is built to handle lines, which I imagine can come fast and furious on the weekends. Props to whomever is overseeing the bathroom situation -- it's looking quite good. Speaking of quite good, that's how I feel about a majority of their ice cream. The hill country honey and vanilla bean has an addictive quality to it, as does the goat cheese, thyme and honey. The roasted beets and fresh mint is refreshing and the Texas sheet cake will always be a winner. Lately, the seasonal lineup has been calling my name. The grapefruit paloma is very good and unsurprisingly, very vegan. The loopy fruit is a lot like cereal milk, which should really be in their main rotation. For Pride month, their featured flavor is the "orange you glad it's pride" which a zesty orange and vanilla dream that's absolutely worth the hype. Every flavor noted is available in pint form, with a limited selection for half-pints. I appreciate their ice cream sandwich selection and love that everything can also be ordered online. The prices are understandably more premium in these parts (#1), but not unfathomable at $11.50 a pint. The customer service is on point as well, since they've allowed me to sample practically everything I see without giving me any grief. As a Texas brand that started in Austin, I'm glad they've made the expansion to Houston. I've passed by this ice cream shop on Bellaire Blvd a hundred times, but never noticed it. It is a small shop in a strip center - one that I frequent at least 3X month. Well I found the place and loved it! They have unusual flavors and the flavors are excellent - I had 3 samples. My absolute favorite flavor is the Coconut Cream! A close second is the Pecan and Bourbon (very close). The server was very helpful and friendly. They do have a small seating area. I wish that they'd open up earlier than 1 PM on Saturday and Sunday - possibly noon. The only problem is the parking - it was difficult to find a place a parking space and the rows are a bit narrow so it is a bit difficult to back out - and a lot of cars circling for spaces so be careful. read more

The online ordering service doesn't list all the in stock freezer flavors, so you HAVE to go inside to look in both, which honestly with a limited rotational menu isn't much of a hassle. Ambiance: LOVED the lighting style, large menu lettering, fellas at the counter don't talk much but they are great at proper portioning & samples. "Food": I'm not a fan of sweet/salty combos but the thyme/ goat cheese(?) is surprisingly sweet I got it in mix with the salted caramel (very umami/sweet) and dang near melted into the floor. The flavors here were not for me. Their coffee flavor was sadly not offered anymore. I sampled the dark chocolate/olive oil (the olive oil was too strong for me), the rumchata (good for horchata lovers), Texas sheet cake (meh), pecan and bourbon (not great and had cake pieces) before i decided on the mint and chocolate (I wasn't a fan of the chocolate pieces). Talk about a hidden gem! I am at this shopping center every 3 months for a hair appointment. Anddd the way I have never noticed this place until I arrived extra early one day! This ice is sooo good and creamery with uniquely crafted flavors. The origin story of the ice cream shop is pretty cool too. Any who I decided to check this place out after my hair appointment and I got 3 scoops in a cup so I could try a variety of flavors at once. Lick is my go to ice cream shop in Houston (first time I tried Lick was in college at their Austin location). I tend to always get the same flavors (coffee and/or vanilla with Texas honey). Their seasonal items are always fun (I tried the spring ones today: strawberry and cream that was coconut based and lemon sugar cookie). The offer free samples and also have a punch card. My friends and I came here for some ice cream after dinner. All their flavors are really amazing. Normally I get the goat thyme honey ice cream , but I went with the caramel salt this time and it was pretty good.. the goat, thyme, honey ice cream was really strong in the thyme this time. So even if you are a regular, you should sample the one you're thinking about getting first before you get it in a cup or cone. The waffle bowls are very crunchy. If you're not a big fan of sweets, I would recommend the dark chocolate olive oil . Their worker was pretty chill, and he is fine with giving us all the samples we wanted before ordering and didn't make us feel bad for asking so much. There are limited tables and chairs and inside. We were a group of seven people I think we took up half the available chairs. Tables are clean. It's very close to where I live, and it's in a plaza with a HUGE parking lot, so you will never have a problem with parking when coming here. Saw and advertisement that they were giving out free scoops today 3-5pm and decided to try it. Of course we came after the free scoop rush cause this is Houston and I'm not about to stand outside in 100 degree weather for one scoop. Upon entering, the establishment was extremely small with only two tables and a bar sitting area. It was still rather crowded even though the free scoop period was over. There were only two scoopers, which made the line slower. Kudos to them for having unique flavors though! One of the ones we ordered was beet and basil along with blueberry crumble in a waffle bowl. They were rather delicious and it was obvious their waffle bowls were freshly made. We sat down for a bit, but didn't stay long as it felt way too overcrowded and claustrophobic. I tasted a few samples and opted for a pint of the Texas Sheet Cake ice cream and a half pint of the Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil, and Sea Salt ice cream--both were so good, and I appreciated how they had half pints of a few flavors. The service was very nice--the servers were helpful and friendly and were happy to let me try samples. Just note that the store was a little hard to find because their sign isn't up yet--it's right next to Antone's. I lucked up upon this establishment which is only one of two locations thus far so you know the Yelper in me was like, Dive in! The selection is phenomenal and the Seasonal selection was a bonus. If you unsure of what flavor you want..psst they will let you try a few samples. I have never seen some of the combinations that Lick Honest Ice Cream have on their menu and I could only try one this day and that would be Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil and Sea Salt. The ice cream did not melt too fast and was creamy and sweet. My goal now is to try a different flavor every time I come here. They support local farmers and artisans; in addition, to Cones For A Cause. Lick is here in Houston!!! On National Ice Cream Day, we stopped by for their grand opening as they're offering free scoops for everyone who comes by! I sampled their Dewberry Corn Cobbler, Blueberry Crumbler, and their Peach Oat Crisp. I ultimately decided to get a cup of the Peach Oat Crisp, but all three were fantastic flavors. I had a bite of my friend's Honey Peach with Rosemary flavor which was also a solid choice. So happy to have Lick in the neighborhood now!! Very interesting flavors, extremely friendly staff, clean place and great location. A bit expensive for the amount you get. I got a few small cups for my kids and I dare say this place serves the smallest amounts by far--which doesn't bother me in the least, especially for kids cups--I hate when it melts (in this Texas heat!) and drips everywhere. However, the price does not reflect that whatsoever. The flavors my kids got weren't that memorable for me either, but they enjoyed them. I did sample the sea salt which was very good, but not my personal favorite type of ice cream to begin with, so I didn't end up with any for myself anyway. read more

We tried this (Austin-based) new Houston location today. It's a small shop in a retail strip center. Lisa R had forewarned me that she gave it thumbs down as far as flavor compared to Jeni's & the Chocolate Bar's ice cream shops. Well I have to agree with her. The ice cream flavors looked appealing, but after ordering, it wasn't the fabulous flavors I'm used to enjoying at the two above mentioned competitors. While service was certainly friendly, the size of the ice cream scoops left me wondering how my waffle cone was barely showing any ice cream sticking out of it. Since I have had many other ice cream shops ice cream scoops in a waffle cone, I have to say this was the skimpiest portion ever! There were 3 of us here earlier this evening and each one of us said, no this isn't the best tasting ice cream. It just did not have that rich wow flavor we're used to enjoying. I was excited to try the flavors that were advertised. However, I found most of them were understated and mild. I tried samples of a number and bought several anyway. A strawberry flavor had no real taste of strawberry, same with cherry, lavender, and cilantro/lime without a deep flavor of lime, mild of cilantro. Despite many attempts to use my Vanilla Gift card...see, I don't want you to know my name or send me emails...well, the person could not get it to work. So, before walking out empty handed...I asked politely...do you take cash? Well of course we do. Really, well the two men who work here refused and said they did not take cash..oh except that tip jar. This time I vowed to walk out if you folks got my credit card. But very politely the employee took my green bills and I put some in the tip jar...even though I only bought a pint of ice cream.
