This place is essentially a bigger, slightly better Aldi. I find the meat selection far superior and of more variety, and of course there is an actual bakery section. The overall selection of grocery items has definitely rendered me completely unable to go back to Aldi because everything I would get there I can find at Lidl. The store is clean, large (albeit always stuffed with people meandering down aisles - no offense to those people, but you need to speed it up or learn not to stand in the middle of foot traffic) and has enough variety to get a lot of what may be on your list. However, there are some drawbacks in my experience. While I am able to find really inexpensive items that beat the prices of other stores, there are common items I cannot find there and that is frustrating, so I have to go to multiple stores. They have several different kinds of green leaf or romaine/kale lettuce, but no basics like spinach. They had loose green peppers for bagging, but no other varietals by the pepper rather than by the bag. But then at other times there are. If I need potatoes, the one day I go is the time they don't seem to have anything but sweet potatoes. There are just some basics they seem to neglect in lieu of other less popular items. The spinach ordeal really threw me off. I at least figured if it was the last item on my list and I was already there, I'd find a bag of it. Nope. Insert sitcom foibles here as I curse my way out and curse my way to a more expensive store for something I was surprised they did not have. The cashiers never give me a chance to enter my number for my rewards card, which I find odd. They also never ask if I have one - if I don't beat them to it they just skip that entire process. Overall, I enjoy the extremely competitive pricing (even if I hate how small they chose to make the parking lot) and I go here for my staples and save a ton of money. But if I want something specific, I know to look elsewhere or else I will risk having to go to multiple stores after being frustrated. It's worth the trip if you need milk, eggs, bread, etc. Those things are where you cannot beat the prices! read more

First time in one of their stores. My first impression is Walmart. They have some odd things for a grocery store. I walked out after seeing that I could not pay for my items. They had a few cashiers open, and each of lines were half the length of the store. For some strange reason. None of the self checkout lanes were open. read more

I usually like shopping here but I'm tired of them only having one register open (I'm a cash person) and forcing me to the self checkout all the time. Please have at least two if not three registers open at all times!!!! Also, sometimes the food products seem old. Not expired but like they are not stored properly. Example: I like to grab the prepacked salads. Few to many times the lettuce is already brown. Take it off the shelf! The yogurt seems like it's not been stored in the cool enough. Seemed a little curdled when I bought one last week. Staff pretty nice, when they're there. read more

I don't know why people are shocked that you do your own bagging and pay for bags. Lidl is a German owned market, and this is what they do in Germany. The selection is great, and so are their prices. It's much nicer than Aldi, with more produce selections and meats. I like their wine section, which is more like a Trader Joe's. I will coming back often. read more

This used to be my go to store. I used to brag and tell everyone about it. When our local grocery went out of businees, Lidl started failing. Lack of items in store, rarely any weekly sales items in stock, typically only 2 lines available with minimum of 10 people waiting...Lately, also noticed bread, milk and produce molding/rotting within 2 days after buying, even with refrigeration. Worst customer service ever. I've been driving past this store for months and after hearing the commercials several times decided to stop by for the first time. Unlike other grocery stores in the area, this one closes at 9 and I wasn't aware of this. As soon as my young child and I walked in, a rude guy yelled at us that they were closed. Before I could ask about the hours, I was rudely interrupted with another "we're closed." This place doesn't deserve my money, and I won't bother coming back. I understand that every store has business hours, and I would've appreciated a nice "Hello, unfortunately we're closed. I'd love it if you would come again to see us during business hours. We stumbled on Lidl in London in 2016. The store was mobbed. We were, therefore, very excited when we heard that Lidl was coming to Virginia in the United States. We looked forward to shopping there. We have been to two Lidls in Virginia already. The layouts were the same. One was the Manassas store and the other was at Midlothian, a thriving suburb outside Richmond. Both Lidls were great, actually much nicer than Aldi and Trader Joe's. The prices were superior to Giant, Safeway, Shopper Food, Wegmans, and even Walmart! The prices were rock-bottom. Eggs at 48 cents per dozen, big fat seedless green grapes at 79 cents per pound, and hot baguettes at 79 cents each. There were bakeries on premise that also sold rolls, loaves of bread, and doughnuts. I bought a giant pumpkin at $1.99 each while other stores including Trader Joe's sold at $3.99 each and Giant sold at $4.99 each. The quality of the merchandise is top-notch. I immediately opened up a can of coffee, peanut butter, salsa, and jam to taste. They were excellent even though they were not Maxwell House or Skippy or Smuckers or other American brand names. Needless to say, we were very pleased with the three Lidl stores we have visited. One day, I hope they will open a Lidl close to Springfield, Virginia. read more

After visiting a few times, overall I am pleased with Lidl. It is a step up from Shoppers, but I prefer my Super Targets. Their prices are pretty good. Produce is a little bit and miss, like one time they did not have broccoli, which I consider a pretty standard vegetable. Overall I really like their meat selection. Their steak, marinated chicken and different kinds of sausage were all good. The only meat quality I was not impressed with was their ground beef 85%/15%. The store is clean, but don't expect any employees to acknowledge you. There is usually a wait at the checkouts. I also find it annoying to pay for bags. read more

I love this new grocery store. They have the best prices. The meat selection is my favorite in town. They have so many extra items too. Clothes, speakers, bathroom accessories, etc. my new favorite place to get groceries!! And they have a good brand of wine that's only $2.59! :) read more

Scallops were on sale 12oz regular 9.99 with 3$ off so 6.99. Sale started Wednesday Jan 8 my husband went in the 9 th to buy some for a dinner party we were having that night. There was a family pack but not the ones on sale they were the same price reg as others. When he got to cashier they said they were out and couldn't honor the same price. I find that having been on sale for only 1 day and they don't have them pretty poor since the sale page had been out for a week Happens a lot at this store , so had to go to other grocery store Call before you go or big waste of time. read more

Way too long, no self check outs open, no express lane, those of us with only a few items have to stand in line behind people with a cart full. While I love lidl pricing, the customer service at the Manassas location has gone SO downhill since they opened. They never have enough people working check out, the produce section is always a mess. And they do not honor all their sale price items. They had a sign up saying buy 2 donuts get them for 52cents each. That sign was on multiple donuts, just said buy 2, All were the same price! So I get 1 of each. I had to do self check since they had only 1 register open in the middle of the day (1pm). It wouldn't ring up right on self check, so I had to wait almost 15 minutes for someone to come over. Then he tells me, only it only works if you get 2 of the same donut. I tell him the sign doesn't say that, and even take him over to show him the sign, and that the price is the Exact SAME! He tells me oh I don't know but it only works if they are the same. I ask why the sign doesn't say that then and he just shrugs his shoulders? It's basic math, they are both the same price, with the same sign.. what is the problem? While it may have only been a 40 cent difference, it's the principle. It is great to save money.. but it comes with a hassle every time my husband & I come here. They don't have enough staff, the store has become dirty and they don't enforce their sale signs. We moved to Manassas from Leesburg and the lidl stores are a huge difference! The Leesburg store had way better customer service, was fully staffed, CLEAN always, and they upheld ALL their pricing, every time! Lidl of Manassas needs to step it up.. yes the pricing is good compared to other places but the service isn't. You save money shopping here yet you pay by it taking longer to shop and sometimes they don't even have the basics or there is stuff all over the floor, rotten produce etc. Buyer Beware! read more

I am so disappointed in this location. We come here ALL the time and spend a lot of money here. I have always been pleased, but today I was so disappointed! We came at about 6pm. We had been out doing our weekly shopping because it is my only day off work all week (retail works on holidays). I ran in the ladies room to use the facilities while my wife grabbed a cart, to my dismay there was NO TOILET PAPER IN EITHER STALL AND THE FLOORS WERE DISGUSTING! Now I have worked retail for 14 yrs. I understand it gets busy. But there is no reason for there to be no toilet paper! Especially in the ladies room!!! Luckily I had tissues in my purse. I walked out when I was finished and asked for a manager. I explained the situation to her and said I'm sure she understood my frustration as she was a lady also. Her reply was that they were busy and employees had called off. Well I'm sorry but that is not my problem! As a supervisor/assistant manager, my first priority is ALWAYS my customer. If a customer has an issue, I don't make excuses. I apologize and rectify the problem. I just smiled and walked away. As I walked through the store with my wife, we noticed how dirty the store was. Trash everywhere on the floor. Again I can understand being busy but it just looked terrible. We got the few things we needed and went to check out. The gentleman cashier was very nice. That was the bright spot of our visit. We thanked him and left. Hopefully our next visit is better. Fingers crossed. read more

As a dedicated Aldi shopper, I was very interested in checking out Lidl upon their grand opening weekend. This location marks the 30th location in the US. Lidl is a German based grocer, focused on private label offerings with limited selections. These factors are what help to keep cost low. While the fresh fruit & vegetable section was large for this size of store, the organic options were very slim. Quite the contrary with canned vegetables, though overall organic selection is small they do exceed that of Aldi. Lidl offers fresh bakery items, however to quality I can not attest to. I found many of their private label offering to be an exact match to Aldi (though not inclusive of ingredient list) with similar pricing, just slightly different outer packaging. Also worth a mention is their wide selection of private label beers & wines. What interested me the most was the very reasonably priced selection of free range, antibiotic & steroid free meat options; of which included chicken, steak, pork & ham. This alone is worth a visit to Lidl, but for me - only if I'm in the area. read more

Tried this store twice both times super crowded. Prices are much higher than Aldi to me that is not worth enduring the crowded store. Paltry bread section. Also had a bad experience at the register with the conveyor belt crushing all my food including my eggs. Cashier didn't even care and manager came over to apologize and continued to push the conveyor button to crush my food more. Not planning on shopping there again. read more

Great store! I save so much money here. Lots of fruit and vegetables. Workers are nice. Bakery is great and well stocked especially considering Covid-19. In walking distance from Costco. I come here first with my shopping list early before heading to Costco. This is the best place to shop for groceries. It's between and Aldi and Target but better than both. Yes you have to buy bags for less than .10 cents for nice big plastic bags. Prices are less than Costco and other stores. Good spices. Plenty of parking spaces. Very convenient to gas station. The have flowers and plants there and are less expensive than Trader Joes. Best time to go is as soon as it opens. Worst time is around 1:00pm when people want to pick over everything and not put things back. Store clerks and inventory people are always working to stock selves and keep the place clean. I don't know how they do it with putting their lives in danger. I applaud them!. I go there from Chantilly. read more

It's a fun store to shop in. They have great sales on wine and the weekly specials can be real bargains. The downside is that Lidl must be German for we're out of that. You also have to watch the cashiers or read your receipt carefully because sometime those sale prices don't show up at the register. Since there is no customer service desk, you need to track down an employee to get the problem fixed. read more

Cheap prices, sure. But management at Lidl has yet to realize that this is a densely populated area and more than two registers on a Sunday is necessary. Cashiers are friendly, people stocking are knowledgeable, but for whatever reason once you hit check out the management stops paying attention. Today a cashier needed help. It took several calls for someone to emerge from the back. Manager scanned his card and left - only to have the cashier unable to move forward again without him. Most items are cheap and fresh however the management needs to keep up with the marked off or discounted items. If look carefully, the discounted item especially fruits are not taken off at the counter and customer ended up paying full price. I like the French baguettes but they run out quickly. For the last 3 weeks, I haven't seen them baked it at all. I stop by the store solely for the bread!!! I won't buy anything else unless They started baking my French baguettes again! read more

I have told many people how much I like Lidl-until today. I had a list of about seven items from their current ad--three of them were out of stock with two days left in the sale. They will not give rainchecks! I understand that some items may be offered for just a limited time, and rainchecks cannot be issued. These items, however, were regularly stocked items that will indeed be restocked after the sale ends. I called their corporate "customer care" line and was told to go back tomorrow to see if the items are back in stock. This store isn't around the corner; my husband and I are senior citizens who drove out of our way to shop there. I find it to be very bad business to advertise prices that are not honored when back in stock. To me, it seems like "bait and switch"--to entice us into the store but not have the items or provide rainchecks for them. They say "rethink grocery". I say, "rethink lidl." read more

The reason I didn't give this a 2 rating is because most things are good. I bought two ribeye steaks. I grilled the first one. It was so tough that we couldn't eat it. We laughed because we said it was the toughest piece of meat we'd ever tried to eat. Since it was so cheap I didn't take it back. I made stew from the second steak, thinking that if it cooked long enough, it would be tender. Wrong. It was just as tough. I took the packaging back to Lidl. I told the person I spoke with (he said he wasn't the manager, but would help me). I said I wasn't looking for my money back, I just wanted them to know about how awful the product was. He said I should have tenderized the steak first, or put tenderizer on it, or poke holes in it with a fork. I said, it's a rib-eye. I shouldn't have to tenderize it. I asked him to explain then why it was still tough when I made stew from the second one. This obviously wasn't getting anywhere. I asked him if he wanted the packaging so he could address the problem. He said no, but I'll throw it away for you. So be careful and don't buy any of their steaks if you're planning a barbecue. read more

Some of the products are good, such as their jams, jellies & preserves. One of my staples, yogurt is something I will not buy there due to cornstarch in their ingredients list. The customer service is non-existent. There was a spill in an aisle on my first visit. I informed an employee and 20 minutes later he still hadn't cleaned it up. Last night, as I was checking out, the cashier, who was dressed like a manager told me to give him my reusable bag, which I bought on my first visit but stupidly handed to him thinking I was elsewhere where they bag your groceries for you and he proceeded to scan it. Again, I didn't think anything of it and only thought I was getting a 5 cent discount. Well I was cleaning out my purse tonight and and looked over the receipt to find he charged me for the bag I already paid for!!! Now I see how they keep their prices so low. They rob their customers!!! I will not be a regular customer. read more
