My friend swears by Lidl in Long Island. I went to this location about 6 months and just didn't "get it." A little too spartan and too much variation between branded and unfamiliar items. Now with tariffs poised to destroy the trucking industry I knew I better figure it out so I can stash more cash. Btw a pox on all your houses if you contributed to this. Anyway. Ive gone a couple times in the past 2 weeks and there are things I quite like there: the salted butter, shredded cheeses, breakfast sausage, and fruit punch are always priced right. Small bags of produce like sprouts and broccoli work well for me since I'm usually solo and can eat them before they go bad. The hodge podge aisle is fun to shop too. I never buy but I like looking at all of the gadgets and seasonal items. Perhaps when we emerge from this impending depression, I'll indulge. Anyway, I can't do all my shopping here but it fills in the gaps nicely. Between this, Costco and a TJs run here or there I'm good. It won't look perfectly orderly or always well-stocked. But, if you can transcend the psychops of traditional grocery shopping you'll leave with an extra dollar or two in your pocket. read more

I have been to one other Lidl showroom in Maryland . Glad to see another one in our vicinity . Haven't been to this store before and quickly bumped to this location to buy few stuff . Wanted a beach chair but they did t have it . I also saw tomatoes at 90 cents in the Maryland location but didn't get it cheap here . They were about 1.99 or more in the north Brunswick location . I like their bakery . Good products and not that pricey. Service can be better . Not many employees around to help. Good shop for all household items. We come here often. Its kept clean and pretty well stocked. Most of the time, I can find what I need. They recently changed some items around the store but haven't changed the overhead signs yet. Very few workers. Often only one cashier checking people out, sometimes a second will open but it's typical to wait 5-10 minutes to check out. Food is fresh, haven't had any issues. I was excited to finally walk into a Lidl, as I've been seeing these pop up a lot in the past few years or so. This location had plenty of parking, carts are nice and spacious, store seemed clean.. but, nothing really stood out to me in a way that would make me feel as though I have to go out of my way to shop there in the way that I feel about Shoprite, Trader Joe's, or Whole Foods.. Not a great deal of organic produce options or maybe they just needed to restock? Most of what I purchased, can be purchased elsewhere.. but, I did appreciate the organic milk chocolate covered oatmeal cookies that were really tasty! Checkout seemed to be Aldi style with only a couple of cashiers open, but moves quickly.. I was a little bummed that I had to download an app to have access to their weekly savings. This European style German owned supermarket has so much to offer, I'm a huge fan after a few visits! Fresh produce, meats, dairy, bakery, dry goods, gifts, and my absolute favorite that keeps me coming back again and again is the amazing coffee! It's deceptive, from smell alone, you would not think their cheapest variety breakfast blend ground ($2.99 on sale) is anything special, but lo and behold the taste is superb, even better than the Starbucks bagged I've come to enjoy brewing at home. The whole bean organic Honduras at $3.99 a 12oz bag is unbeatable. The nut selection rivals Trader Joe's, much of it is house brand variety or European sourced gourmet goods and lots of US meats and produce. Every house brand or euro brand I've tried has exceeded all my expectations for the super low prices. Love the bakery here! Croissants, apple turnovers, amazing rosemary garlic sourdough loaf is divine, and check the frozen section for some absolutely delicious apple strudel frozen raw from Germany is so very good, as well as the direct from Belgium frozen waffles (wow!). I shopped for most of the holidays here so far and it's all been very well received by family and friends. It's been awhile since my first visit to Lidl and at that time I wasn't too impressed...mostly because it was a short, rushed visit but this time I had the opportunity to spend some time browsing and really check out every aisle. ...And I get it now... Lidl is about the search,the hunt and the score...Yeah there is their bakery with those buttery croissants, dairy and meat sections as well as all your basics but it occurred to me that just about every other aisle had a clearance or specials section just begging to be explored. After putzing around looking at my fellow shoppers a pattern emerges...You come to Lidl to shop for your grocery needs but linger for all the special little deals that makes the shopping experience a bit more exciting. Small batch smoked sausage for 30% off,English cucumbers for .79 cents each,40 ounces of extra large garlic stuffed martini olives for $2.99....well you get the point. so I get it....you should too. read more

Conveniently located off route 1 in the old a&p location off Milltown road. There is plenty of parking since it is located in a strip mall. When I first walked in, I was immediately in the fresh herb and produce section. Then came the bakery where everything is freshly made, from croissants to donuts, cookies, and bread. They even had Portuguese egg tarts which we tried. I wouldn't recommend these as they were overly sweet, the donuts as well. They also have hazelnut croissants but unfortunately they were all sold out. They have a lot of great food options as well as home goods, home decor, and school supplies, even lawn equipment. Their chocolate bars are from Germany so we had to pick some up. All in all, this reminds me of Aldi except with a fresh bakery section. Prices are very affordable so definitely worth checking out. read more

Another European grocery store landed in Central NJ! There are no shortage of these stores in Europe and the UK, but it's still an exciting addition to the neighborhood of North Brunswick. The store feels and looks like a brother of Aldi. Bakery has good selection (got some baked cheese twists) including slice-your-own-bread selection (closed for sanitary reasons during this time). Lidl has everything (80% of what they sell is their own label) from stuffed escargo to berliner donuts to great looking mascarpone mushroom pizza to Indian food in the fridge to blood orange soda to jamaican ham to delish German chocolates, to all sorts of meats -- regular and organic, to 39c liquid glue, to men's and women's shirt and shoes. The mask-wearing staff is very friendly and excited and rightly so from the opening. Aisles are large (but not as wide as Costco's). More people wear masks except for 2-3 people who just "pretended" to wear masks (under the chin, etc.) and that bothered me a bit since Lidl didn't seem to do anything about it. Otherwise I feel that it's a safe and enjoyable shopping trip with deals on each aisle. Plenty of convenient parking at this Brunswick Shopping Center location. First impression of this grocery store is that it's a mix between Aldi's prices, and Trader Joe's larger varieties of items. It has some organic foods. In my opinion, the fresh produce isle needed some freshness update though. It looked wrinkly. Maybe I didn't come in at the right day of the week? I don't know. On the other side, I found the bakery section was good. All bakery food was prepackaged and labeled and clean. They have these cutie kid's shopping carts! Will I go back? I go here less often now and absolutely CANNOT do most of my grocery shopping any longer, and definitely need to go to a big supermarket frequently. I still go because they are very, very close to me and I can get a few cheap things, BUT a lot has changed in the 18 months since they opened: - Produce is usually terrible. Some things on special are okay, but you still have to check it over really carefully. They usually seem to have cheap berries though. - Out of stock on advertised items: very frequently. - Items you grow to love, like the 79 cent box of saltines, $1.50 box of generic triscuits, 0.99 big bag of tortilla chips, pack of six thin dark chocolate bars for 2.99, 1.99 extra firm tofu: they no longer sell. If there's something there you love, they'll probably stop selling it sooner or later. And the non-food seasonal items: They used to have some really incredible stuff, very inexpensive, like every week. The quality of these offerings has gone WAY WAY down. It used to be a fun, novel draw. Now it's a tacky side show. It was nice at first, but the company has clearly changed their business model. You can stop by on a goof, but don't expect to bring a shopping list if you truly *need* everything on it. Fresh baked pastry is still good but pricey. Their packaged store brand sliced cheeses honestly is the best section. If they stop carrying that, I would probably not go at all. They have somewhat improved the checkout. It's still slow as hell, but they do open up new lines when the one gets really long. It had been totally out of hand, and there were surely many complaints. If you have any other Lidl store near you then do yourself a favor and go there. The shelves are mostly empty, the 50% off bread is lying on the floor, the regular bread is hard. The cold juice was spoiled. The staff is rude, make mistakes on your bill and give you an attitude when called on it. They opened not too long ago. Their first week they had lines out the door. Now things have tamed down. It's a great place if you want a quick grocery store run. Most of their everyday items like bread, milk, eggs, and cheese are cheaper than larger chain stores. The prices are comparable to Trader Joe's or Aldi. It's a German branded store so they keep some european branded items, like aldi does. They also have a ton of festive items right now (December) for the holidays. Even in October to they stocked up ok pumpkin and maple items. Cheese and other charcuterie board items are fairly priced. This is a good stop for a fancy charcuterie without paying a lot. They also have a bakery section to fresh goods, Aldi and Trader Joe's don't have this yet. They also have a nice collection of house plants at the entrance. If you want something small for your window sill. They're very cute. read more

I have been loving shopping at Lidl. I go at least once a week. It's usually not busy when I go and I feel safe shopping there. The prices are great and they usually have everything that I need on my shopping list. 49cent avocado sales? The best. Seasonal treats? Amazing. Bakery Section? Seriously, SO good! The staff is helpful and kind and I have no complaints about this particular store. I've just had a few problems with some Lidl products that buyers should be aware of. Unfortunately in the past month I have come across multiple items that contained green mold in them from the Lidl Brand. The first occurrence was in a Strawberry Banana Yogurt cup. I figured hey, it happens, and just threw it out. Opened another cup and it too was molded. This happened a few more times and I just ended up throwing out the whole tray of 12 cups. Kinda bummed but nothing to write about. Refrigeration issues happen. Could've been them, could've been me, could've been anywhere in between. Then today I used a jar of Lidl brand Alfredo sauce to cook pasta and a giant glob of green mold poured out over the pasta ruining the whole meal. I was thoroughly disappointed this time. This was something shelf stable that didn't even require refrigeration to prevent mold. With the yogurt I figured there was a chance something was off with refrigeration but now I'm starting to think it's something is off with Lidl brand.... or at least their dairy products? I knew this place was too good to be true. I will probably still continue to shop here because I think the pros still outweigh the cons but will definitely think twice about Lidl brand purchases now. I actually love this store. The food and produce is good. Very good prices and it's easy to find everything. That said, I have encountered a few employees that are quite rude. At times their behavior is aggressive and they seem angry. These are mostly people working at the checkout. Although a few who stock also work the registers. This one little guy purposefully shoves the food off of the belt onto the reception area so aggressively and sloppy. It shows his incompetence and disrespect to the customers and the company. There is also a rude, miserable mature woman. On the other hand there are many wonderful people working there. They are helpful, pleasant and seem to like their job. NOT SAFE. Same male cashier keeps wearing his mask below his nose and leans in to talk to customers. I'm not going back until covid is over. I have been there 4 times since it opened and all 4 times, that same guy is in everyone's face with his mask not even covering his mouth. This store is brand new and it consistently looks ransacked. They have these stations set up with wipes and hand-sanitizer that are ALWAYS empty. The shelves are always half empty...it is just bizarre. Do better Lidl. read more

A fresh addition to the neighborhood. Lidl is a German based grocery store, comparable to Aldi. Prices are very competitive especially on the fundamentals such as eggs and milk. My personal favs are the croissants and baguette from the bakery dept. I am also a fan of the interesting grocery items from places such as Germany, Italy and France that I haven't seen in any grocery stores. When you have time, you will wanna stop by and. do some shopping there. Note: you either have to bring your own empty grocery bag or purhase bags. You also want to consider downloading their app to get the scoop on whats on sale and be aware of any coupons. read more

Love this store, just what we needed in this area! The store has staple items, variety that changes weekly along with different cultures food featured each week. Have enjoyed meats, seafood and Lidl specific items, only thing we did not like was the ice cream. The bakery department is fantastic with some of the best breads. The staff is friendly and helpful- I was waiting for bread to cool and continued shopping with the intention to go back- the gentleman from the bakery came and found me and brought it to me.
