The view & set up is very cute. For starters, you get to enjoy your food/drinks on the beach, take your shoes off & dig your toes in the sand. The presentation of the food is very aesthetically appealing and the food is delicious. We got both types of burgers, shrimp ceviche, and mixed aguachiles. Beautiful spot for lunch. Showed up at 11:20 and was seated and greeted. Was told we can order drinks and guacamole until 12 when they start serving lunch. Agreed and ordered a ojo Rojo with dos xx, guacamole, and a pina colada. Got chips first no guac and a ojo rojo with melted ice to the top. The lady (Karen) real name laughed and said she'd get me a new one. 12 o'clock came and so did the guac and the waitress. I told her I didn't want another ojo rojo set up and she looked upset. Then the bartender came out with the new ojo rojo and asked me what was wrong. I asked for my bill and then shortly(awkwardly) after paid and tipped like things were great. I am giving this place four stars because their vegan selection is quite expansive and delicious, and because I enjoyed the live music on the beach. That said, I would also like to express a couple of minor grievances: 1. One of my biggest personal frustrations is when I am traveling within a Spanish speaking country and despite my speaking fluid Spanish (and clearly wanting to continue practicing my Spanish) the server sees that I am white and constantly answers me in English. I understand that many people choose to become servers at tourist locations to improve their English, and when we are in the U.S., I will happily oblige. While we are still in Mexico, the insistence upon speaking English feels just plain selfish. Also, to every person I have ever heard complain about Americans' ignorance of other cultures, please stop giving us a crutch. 2. The fee to rent a sun bed is $25, including in the evening hours, which feels a bit inflated, especially when there are beach clubs two doors down that offer free use of their beds with a purchase of food and drinks. read more

It's definitely one of my favorite beach clubs down here in Playa, but you have to be careful and make sure that they don't add extra things to your tab. Obviously, when you're able to speak Spanish like I can you are able to advocate for yourself better but just make sure you triple check everything. Now, the food is pretty great and the Wi-Fi is strong enough for my friend and I to work from here once a week like we typically do. They will try to ask you for a cash deposit for towels which is annoying because I'm spending a pretty sizable amount at the bar but it is what it is. I wish that they had a pool and then I would definitely be here more often than not but I enjoyed my time here when I come. And the prices are beyond reasonable! read more

If looking for a more affordable option on the beach, lido is a great place! Right on the ocean, this place has both restaurant seating at no minimum consumption, or beach recliners for a minimum consumption of 500 pesos, around $25 USD. They have a large vegan selection which was delicious, including vegan chilaquiles and Buffalo cauliflower wings. Lots of cocktails but I highly recommend the lido which is a mint and mango frozen drink. The service was on the slower side, but they were nice. Get here early, I came right when they opened at 8 and was alone, but it got crowded so come early to get a good spot. Ignore reviews saying it smells, they can't control the ocean! Sargaso/seaweed was bad a few years back bringing that smell and murky brown water, but now it is cleared up and from my chair all I saw was clear blue water and a nice ocean breeze! read more

GRASSHOPPER GUACAMOLE - i'm giving this place a 2 rating. It has a beautiful location and they were able to accommodate my daughter's request of a bagel with cream cheese outside of the regular timing. The reason for the 2 stars is that they didn't have menus so you had to look everything up on your tiny phone. We ordered guacamole, which is standard fare down here. What I wasn't expecting was that there would be grasshoppers in it. The waitress didn't mention it either, which I feel like she should have, since grasshoppers are normally in guacamole. I pulled back up the menu and sure enough, the last ingredient under guacamole was grasshopper. Kind of felt the should call it GRASSHOPPER GUACAMOLE, to really highlight that element. I mentioned it to the person clearing plates, and they smiled and did nothing. I didn't eat it at all, but of course paid for it. read more

Literally right next to the beach, this is the first seafood restaurant where we found ourselves having some serious lobster, mixed ceviche, usually shrimp with avocado, pico de gallo, and Limón!! You also get a killer view of the beach itself, and of course, underneath the shades of the umbrellas and great staffing. Though the service can be tremendously slow at times, I think this place is great for drinks, and even drink at night. That's when their lights show and lots of mariachi play their songs. read more

Went here today with my wife and three teenagers! Was a great experience. Great shade and loungers, food was good not great, drinks were good, the beach was clean. Service was good for Mexican standards. Prices were amazing 5 people lite breakfast, lite lunch and 7 beers, 5 margaritas 3 frozen drinks and five waters for 1600 pesos so about 105 US dollars after tip! Also the best part the 2 hour long massages for 500 pesos yes not a misprint 30 dollars for 2 hour long great massages! Very small portion of potatoes, salsa, and a small cup of watery beans. I was still hungry after I finished it. My friends got the chilequiles and it was just OK. Our opinion was that the food was very Americanized. The service was great though. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. Lido is one of the best places to have a drink on the beach. And Dafne is by far the absolute BEST bartender. She makes this place feel like you're partying with your friends. The food is also great. Get the Aguaschiles Mixto. And their tequila is the best selection you can find on the beach. Our favorite tequila is Don Julio 70 años. Come here, you'll have a great time. We visited this beach club in 2011 and returned to visit in 2015. It is better than ever and in my humble opinion the best beach club in playa del carmen. It's right on the beach and has great beach beds and chairs with umbrellas. The food and drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. Most importantly the customer service is exceptional. Alex, Johnny, Ricardo, Quetzal, Kara, Julio, etc. will take care of you and make sure you have a great time. Try the club sandwich for lunch, a smoothie, or the drink of the day. This is only for the 2018 New year's Eve dinner party which was roughly $90 usd or $1,680 pesos per person. In the grand scheme of things and having it by the beach $90 per person wasn't bad so we thought. This came with ab3 course meal, fire dancing, champagne toast, party favors and 12 grapes for the traditional begining of the year celebration. Dinner Reservation started 9. We are a Party of 4 that arrived 10 mins before 9pm. We we're seated farthest from the ocean front next to the men's bathroom. No worries we still think this was good because we know how tight and crowned it is closer to the water (we have been eating here for the last 3 days breakfast and lunch). Diner guests arrived slowly that by 10pm we didn't have any drink service. We got a manager and finally got some service. 1045pm no sign of food, appetizer, snack or service. The hubby took the kid across the street to get some snack. Now I am upset and demand service and answer (they are busy was the answer we got)...no food when it is 1115pm. Let's just skip to finally eating 2.5 hours from arrival and dessert after the New year's toast. To add insult to injury we were expecting fillet mignon we got top sirloin, no asparagus on the dish as described and tiramisu was old and dry. Other guests didn't eat until after midnight so I guess we are lucky (not). They did offer another bottle of red wine at 130 am (oh BTW they serve red wine very cold here - not 19 degree Celsius/66 degree fahrenheit but rather -7 degree Celsius/19 degree farenheit) or 20% off the bill. Given that our son already missed desert from waiting too long and this place doesn't have their stuff together we opted for the 20 % off from the bill. Our tip we gave part of it to the busboy and the rest we gave to the head person to distribute to those that worked hard because we know how hard it is to get an event like this to pull off. But for our own Waiter there was no excused for him. The restaurant f up big time and needs so much help. They took on much more than they can handle. Sadly I can't recommend this place for the poor service and execution of an important event such as NYE dinner. read more
