Let's be honest--I usually only find myself on the third floor of this mall for one thing: the food court. After deciding to walk off some calories, we ended up inside Lids. Who knew hat shopping could be so gratifying? They boast a broad assortment of styles, including fitteds, flexfits, snapbacks, and strapbacks. Between the floor-to-ceiling displays of hats and their ability to personalize your headwear with embroidered patches and/or custom text, you're bound to find one you fancy! They also have blanks for any creative visionaries who may prefer to design their own hat from scratch. I've window shopped at Lids a handful of times, but this was my first time making a purchase. We had the pleasure of meeting Andre, who truly gave us an ideal consumer experience! He was knowledgeable, accommodating, and engaging. Once we finalized our selections, Andre let us know that our embroideries would be completed in 30 min; we came back in 20 and our two hats were already waiting for us at the register. A delightful experience overall--my true rating is a 4.5/5 (rounded down to 4), only because their glow-in-the-dark thread came at an additional cost, but the glow itself is rather unnoticeable and almost nonexistent. If I could give 0 stars I would. This place sucks. I went in the day before Father's Day to get my husband a hat. The girl working there was trash talking her Dad at full volume to another employee across the store... Tacky. My husband tried on the hat, it was too big, so I put it back in the bag with the receipt to exchange it. When I went back a couple weeks later, I waited AN HOUR past their posted opening time. No one ever came! I went back today to exchange the hat for a smaller size. He refused to exchange it because it had "a smudge" on it and "dog hair"............ DOG HAIR!!!!! I'm pissed. I went in on Friday to purchase a hat and jersey. I went to return/exchange the hat for a different style. The opening person said he couldn't do it because the hat was not "resalable" that it was smashed. The hat was never taken out of bag or moved. It was in the back seat of my vehicle the whole time. The way he talked to me, he was being a dick. And there were other customers inside the store. I almost told him he could of spoke to me better and not be such a dick. I wasn't being rude so there was no reason for him to speak to me the way he did. It was really disappointing and almost wanted to return my city connect jersey too just to not give any business to that store. read more

Don't buy anyone a gift from here. I brought in my hat that I received from my son as he went into the Marines. I wanted to exchange for one size down. They didn't have the size and said "there's nothing they could do" then said they could exchange it no matter what because there was a teeny bit of glitter (hardly any, and I brushed it off as I walked out to my car). Just went to Lids I wanted San Diego Mustangs embroidered onto my daughter's brand new custom team hat and this is what they did to it, guy was nice but he said the machine is 10 years old and so why do they even have embroidery service get a new machine! Don't risk the embroidery service. Now I get the spend the next few however many hours trying to take out the stitching at the same time trying not to ruin the hat. Update: the next day I got my refund and found out they charged me for two hats and double stitching, I only wanted one hat done. The employee also told me the guy that did the stitching on the hat yesterday was their best de-stitcher, is that because he makes a lot of miatakes???? ‍ Anyways good luck to whomever decides to go their and get their hats embroidered.... read more

This is what is wrong with our world today!! The day before Christmas My husband went to buy a cap for our 4 year old and got his name embroidered on it at LIDS in the North County mall. My son's name is Kai. When we spell Kai on our Apple devices or computers it always autocorrects it to "Kia". Obviously no parent spells their kid's name wrong! Especially not three letters. When the hat came back with "Kia" on it instead of Kai my husband, in the Christmas rush, grabbed it and came home. He didn't notice. When he came home he was excited and showed me and I saw that it said "Kia ". We tried to hide it from our son when we gave it to him with the intention of taking it back to get fixed after Christmas. Mistakes happen, shouldn't be hard to get fixed right? WRONG The guy at Lids told my husband that they would remove the "IA" in Kia. My husband was disappointed but felt it was his fault since he didn't tell the guy it was wrong when he handed it to him in the first place. My response, "um no!!!! Regardless of if you noticed it then or now, the damage was done, they made the mistake and would have to fix it". He got the hat back and it is HORRIBLE. Like despicable, horrendous, garbage. Lids was perfectly fine with this solution! This is what is wrong with our world today, it was as if we owed them since we bought the hat. I will never shop there again. read more

Went to the store here in North County Westfield and was amazed at the service, kindness, attentiveness of Sam. He greeted me and asked me how I was when both dropping my hat off and pick it back up. Went specifically to get my hat embroidered with the Kobe wings. Was expecting the staff to be stressed because I'm sure there were a lot of requests for this free embroidery, however they were extremely polite and seemed happy to do it. RIP Mamba read more

A couple of weeks ago, I visited the store in the evening and the employee played music the n-word used repeatedly and a lot of profanity, including the f-word, used throughout the songs. Racist music and music with profanity should not played anywhere, including Lids stores at malls. I am glad my kids were not with me and will never spend money at that store again. read more

I purchased a laker hat and got embroided with the free kobe wing. I later brought my sons hat to get the free wing. The guy working said one day & come tomorrow. Store was empty. I said ok. Came the next day guy was sorry said the girl would get to it at 1:30pm it was 12 and he asked me to wait for her to get there. I left the hat and Came back at 5 pm girl was there and didn't have it done. She said she didn't get to it. And literally didn't do it. She kept saying purchased hats get priority but she wasn't even working on any hats. Machine wasn't going . completely just ignored me and kept cleaning the counter. Her name is rachel. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Tried to get a stocking embroidered for my new baby there since my MIL had me get my first daughter's stocking done there and I wanted it to match our family stockings. First employee couldn't tell me what the size or font was that would match. I understood, as he said he wasn't too familiar with the embroidery machine. So I picked the font and size to the best of my ability and was ready to live with my decision if it wasn't a perfect match. But he told me if I wasn't in a hurry, the manager would be in later that day and is an "expert on the machine" and could figure everything out! So I left it... Came back to pick it up and at the register, when I asked for my stocking, they said, "Ohh...It got messed up. Go ask him over there, he did it." They handed me my new baby's stocking....It was embroidered inside out...top folded over, with her name on the INSIDE of the stocking..........The "expert" was the manager. He chuckled and said "Yeah I did it like a beanie, so I flipped the top down. I ain't gonna be doing any more stockings haha!" Through tears I ask him to please undo the embroidery and try to re-do it since it was a stocking for my new baby and matched our family stockings. He says it's impossible, too many little holes, can't undo it. Says he can embroider on top of the messed up embroidery but it'll look messed up but we can try, or he can give me my $15 refund. But these are family matching stocking, $125 for multiple matching stockings, and I don't have the receipt from 8 years ago that he's requesting....so I again ask him to please try to undo it. He shrugs his hands up and yells, "I already told you, either I do it on top or I give you your refund. Pick one or the other." When I ask him to not yell at me (still tearing), he says "I'm not yelling, I'm PRO-JECT-ING. BIG DIFFERENCE." I say to him, "I feel like you don't even give a sh**, you're just laughing at me and yelling while I cry? Not even like 'Hey here's a hat I'm so sorry." He legit LAUGHS and scoffs and says "I can't give you a free hat!!!" I didn't even want a hat, he missed the whole point of my comment. I just wanted him to *try* to fix it, to show some remorse. Hell, if it were me that messed up, I would've bought him a hat or a gift card or something. There wasn't even a sincere apology in any of our interaction. I left in tears with $15 and a messed up stocking that I was told couldn't be un-embroidered. Got home and my sweet older neighbor undid the embroidery that he said couldn't be undone, and I had it re-embroidered by real professionals. I know this is primarily a hat store, but the service is total crap. Don't advertise or offer services you don't know how to perform. I should've read the previous embroidery reviews here on Yelp before going to this LIDS or else I would've known better. Don't trust them to embroider anything, they can't even correctly embroider hats according to others' experiences here on Yelp. read more

I would give zero (0) stars if I could. I bought a hat and tried to return in a couple weeks later at the Carlsbad location which was closed for a remodel. I then went to the Escondido location a couple weeks later to return the hat. The manager didn't want to help me return the hat knowing the situation and said he couldn't help because it was outside of the 30 day return policy. He wouldn't call his manager or find another way to help. Very blunt and didn't have an ounce of customer service knowledge. I disputed the charge with my credit card company and resolved the issue that way. Very disappointed and I will never shop at Lids again!!! read more

This use to be my favorite Lids because they always had the SD Padre options and sizes in all styles available. Unfortunately, the staff has changed and so has the store stock. The options were a bit more limited and they literally didn't have a 7 1/8 or 7 1/4 in anything except the standard 5950 on field. The staff was not nearly as knowledgeable as they use to be. One of the girls tried to tell me how she was a hat collector and had just got the hat she was wearing and that's why she was wearing it. The hat she was wearing was from the collection a few years back. Guess she didn't realize I am literally a hat geek and wasn't falling for her poor attempt to seem like she knows hats. The store itself is located in nice mall on third floor not too far from food court. They still have a lot of hats foe size of joint and they do offer embroidery at this location. read more

They never have my size in any hat. The help is ok however stock in this store is terrible. I chose 5 hats and they didn't have the most common size 7 1/2 in any! Not one hat? That's wack I came to spend on hats at a hat store and they didn't have any hats! I was also told they wouldn't get shipments really until February that's sad. Stock the hats up stock more of the hat sizes that sell the most common sense guys! Apparently they don't want to sell hats cuz they don't even wanna stock them.... read more

Here is a Lids Store in North County Fair Mall on the 3 Level . It has all sorts of hats from flat brim to fitted also it has all sorts of different types of hats like all sports but not every team though . They also have a rack with Clearance hats but are still kind of expensive like a clearance hat would cost you 22.00 dollars or more which I think it should be more like 5 or 10 dollars then it is more like Clearance !! But the service here is ok but not the best !! Well if your a Hat collector then this place fits you well . But overall it only gets 3 out of 5 for selection and service . read more

I went to Lids with the impossible task of needing to have hankerchiefs made with custom wording on them. The manager Chris was so AWESOME and helpful. He helped me customize my lettering and font and spent so much time with me making sure they came out perfect. The other employee Mike was also so very helpful, and did a great job cleaning up my handkerchiefs after they were embrodered They were both very professional, made the whole experience a great one, and where the perfect example of great customer service.
