Tried the spa, had a very good message for a first time visit. I will certainly go back.

I really, really like lifetime fitness. I've been a member for years, and I have to say, a big motivator for me working out is the experience here. I don't really care about the other people at the gym, although, sometimes it does get obnoxious, especially in the ladies locker room after a spin or kickboxing class. But I try to take a postitive attitude with things, so I just laugh it off. For someone that is single like me, I enjoy the variety of classes offered, and usually getting there early isn't a big deal for me. Although those with children or a super tight schedule, I can see how it may get annoying trying to get a spot in some classes. The machines are good, and I never had an issue with a machine I want to use not being available. Everything is clean, the locker rooms are huge and spacious, and anytime I go to the pool, sauna, hot tub area, it seems that they are cleaning or checking the water, so that's a nice reassurance. The food can be pricy, but I'm willing to shell out a few extra dollars in a pinch to get a nice healthy meal. I'd say the staff is about 50/50 in terms of friendliness. Depends on who you get, but that's with any establishment these days, quite sad, but it's almost as if having a nice, pleasant person help you with anything these days is like finding a needle in a haystack. Overrall, I love the amenities, the 24 hour aspect of not only the gym but the pool, the sauna, and the locker rooms will keep me coming... for a lifetime (ha, ha!) read more

The gym itself is very good. Equipment clean and well kept. Good rock wall with a great staff working it. Way to busy however, between 5-9 don't even attempt to come. Never any clean towels in the men's locker room When it's busy. read more

They have a great cafe, child care facility, yoga room, massage experts, beauty salon, rock climbing wall, racquetball courts, spin classes, 2 full basketball courts with a league, full swimming pool with sauna, hot tub and dry heat room, too. Definitely pushy salespeople, but I figure they know once you commit you'll love it. Best gym in Macomb. It's not lacking in any way - one stop shopping for individual fitness, swimming, group classes, and spa services. One small criticism: too many kids allowed in the pool and kids out of control. I love this gym, but they shouldn't hover over pregnant women like they do. I understand not wanting someone to get hurt, but putting toes in the hot tub and riding a bike isn't going to kill us. We are paying members, too, and don't need staff yelling at us for everything we do. read more

Great facilities. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff and trainers. Run Club is great. I don't use the spa, but frequently use the cafe after a workout. And enjoy their selection of healthy, but enjoyable, snacks, smoothies and entrees. Parking can be an issue when they're busy. read more

I have been a member since 2005 but after receiving an e-mail that my dues are going up to $85/month I am cancelling my membership. If you plan to join, expect the dues to go up at least $5 every year (nearly 10% increase). The locker rooms are awesome and the classes are great with so much variety, but for me it just doesn't justify paying double the monthly membership of other local gyms. $60 would be a fair price in my opinion. I also feel like they oversell memberships and the gym is a lot more crowded than it used to be. You can never get on the equipment at certain times during the day. The Shelby location recently made a new "alpha" area and then crammed all of the machines into a corner. In my opinion it was very poorly planned out. The machines are all on top of each other with very little space to get around. Unfortunately a lot more negatives than positives as of late. I don't think I will miss this place. EDIT - There is no error in my billing. It was notification of an increase in dues. Seems like these are somewhat automated or generic responses from LT. read more

I am at the point of cancelling this expensive membership, because the customer service is beyond horrible! My membership was $59.95 a month, I put it on a "flex" for $10.00 a month to keep my membership price "locked." I came back in March, and decided to use a different bank account. First, when I went to pay for the month, they charged me wrong, they charged $60.95. Then, they were supposed to auto deduct the $59.95 in May; they somehow transcribed the expiration wrong on my card, and the dues were not automatically taken out. When I went to manually pay my bill, they AGAIN charged me wrong, and I just looked at my account, and they charged me $3.00 over on what my membership should be! I spoke to Dan in customer service who was helpful, but I am totally tired of the incompetence of this facility!!! I'm going to LA FItness. read more

This is the best gym, but it's more like a spa with a gym. I have been coming here for years, since 2009 and have had several other memberships but nothing really compares to life time in Shelby. Three swimming pools, sana, jucuzzi, steam room, rock climbing wall, yoga studio, two rooms for classes and a cycle room, basketball court, daycare that looks fun for kids, cafe and salon. I am going to miss this place. I have to say goodbye to my membership because of the cost. It went form 10 buck to keep it on hold to 15, and I can't commit to 15 when it is not in use. read more

What a disappointing experience. I experienced lifetime Shelby today, as a guest of a friend. We started with what felt like a rectal exam upon check-in, my friend gets 12 free visits for a guest per year, and I practically had to sign away my firstborn just to get inside. We were trying to make it to a 930 spin class, and had to sit in a managers office and hear her talk about her kids, and then the hard sell came as she asked me if I planned to sign up. I don't live on that side of town, and was simply there as a guest. I may suggest the hard-sell, after a guest actually gets to experience the gym. We attended Whitney's spin class, and that was the highlight of the day. It was a great workout, Great music, and a great sweat. Next, we ate in the cafeteria. While the food was fresh, and organic, it was very expensive for what you got. Lastly, I signed up for a massage, while my friend got a pedicure. She seemed happy with her experience, but my massage was far less then what I expected for $100. My therapist seemed to be trained appropriately, and even though I told her to apply more pressure, it never really happened. The room was absolutely freezing, you know it's bad when your feet are froZen, and your therapist even has cold fingers. It was very hard to relax, as the massage room is right next to the gym, and the daycare. Between screaming kids in the hallway, and listening to one of the managers take a conference call in the room next-door, literally the entire hour I could hear him on speaker phone and the female he was talking to. Extremely annoying, and not even close to relaxing. The entire experience was extremely disappointing, but paying $100 for an absolute disaster of a massage was the most disappointing of all. Upon my exit, my therapist then tried to sell me additional items. No thanks, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. can't say as though even if I were looking for a gym, this would be the place. All I want is my money back for that massage. read more

I've been going here sense 2004 the dam free weight benches seem like that they have never been changed they rock there torn for 80 bucks a month get some new dam benches in there, weigh rack sucks 2 pairs of 35 n 40 most used dumbbell n the curl bar tree rack is completely a mess no one ever re racks anything, I used too see people cleaning n re racking stuff now only guy I see doing anything is cleaning the locker room only reason I give it 3 stars and that's for that guy doing his job! I bike 20 mins every day half the bike heart monitors don't even work! What a shame n I see a guy walking around with a lifetime fitness engineer shirt on wonder what school he graduated from? read more

Seriously the employees here are a joke. First, they pounce on me and I felt forced to sign up, I was told I can cancel before fourteen days with no questions asked. .. come to find out, if you decide the gym us not for you. .. they will give you the dirtiest looks and give you the worst attitude! The facility has a lot to offer, I give them that. .. but I don't use all of their amenities and because of that, I noticed how busy the facility is! I only go to exercise. Poorly managed, spouse had a fall during a fitness class and broke her wrist and required surgery .. Management refused to write up an accident report, the only employee showing concern was the trainer...We also asked for a summer camp receipt, and was told by mgmt that we will email your receipt by 1230 that day and again mgmt fell flat .... The only thing that gives them any stars is the summer camp program...Dont waste your hard earned cash, get physical at home read more

Have been coming to this gym since I was 12 years old and I have never been satisfied going anywhere else. They have really elevated their group fitness classes and instructors are amazing! It is surprisingly busier in the morning from my other location I go to. However, Life Time is hands down a great fitness center. Always clean and up to date. And a very Friendly staff. My personally opinion is you will get what you pay for and you will enjoy this health club if you take full advantage of everything it has to offer. read more

Crowded, equipment that needs to be fixed/maintained/cleaned, and HORRIBLE customer service. Besides the poor equipment and being overly crowded, you need to AVOID this location purely on the poor customer service and horrible management. I won't even get into all the billing issues I have had with them, but they refuse to fix any of their errors and want me to pay for the screw ups. Management could care less and they make you jump thru hoops to make any changes to your account unless you are upgrading or paying more. HORRID HORRID HORRID. Stay as far away as you can. This review is for the Lifespa. My facialist Tina rocks and I hope that she will be feeling better soon. My hairstylist, Tara, is new to Lifetime and she is amazing. I'm so glad that I met her and my hair looks great and it is not a fluke. Today was the second haircut she has done for me and based on the last cut, it can be replicated and looks great even if I just let it air dry. Exceptional! Almost every staff member that I have encountered (cafe, trainers, cleaning, spa, lifeguards, class instructors & anyone else I missed) are wonderful and always ready to assist you with whatever your need. The facility is clean and even though it's fairly large, I have yet to wait for any equipment. If you are going to utilize all of the amenities that they offer it's worth every penny! I love Yoga with Lisa H. and Kickboxing with Rodney is craaaaaazy challenging and awesome; he's so encouraging and makes you bring your A game. If I could give this gym a negative star I would... keeping in mind that I actually worked here I'm am pretty knowledgeable of the the in's and outs of this shitty establishment.... from the members that don't give an actual fuck about this place and literally shit in the showers to the underpaid and under appreciated staff and the oblivious incompetent management... The customer service at this location is awful. I was misinformed about the cancelation policy numerous times. Finally, I spoke to the member services supervisor (Jessica) & was told I needed to come in person to cancel. So I did. The member service was closed and there was no supervisor available. It was documented that I was there and tried to cancel. When calling back the next business day, I spoke to Jessica again (who was extremely rude and not helpful at all), only to be talked over every time I would speak. When addressing this to her, she ignored it and continued to speak over me. She did not try to locate the document even when I told her the name of the man that helped me. When asking to speak to her manager, she said there is currently no manager since they are going through a transition process. When asking who else I can talk to, she said no one, just her. I then asked for corporates number and she rudely gave it to me. She said she had put her own notes in my profile for corporate to see. I called corporate and they said I should have never went through all this hassle and even when member services is not available, I was still able to cancel. They took care of me right away and agreed that Jessica was extremely rude and should not have handled the situation the way that she did. This location is full of over-confident, extremely rude workers and supervisors. read more

I have been a member of this club since 2006! I can honestly say I will NEVER join lifetime fitness again. My membership has creeped up from $40 a year to $52 a year. Upon turning 26 I just received an email stating my membership would go up to $79 a year! I would be fine with this however, they upgraded my membership to a more expensive membership without my consent. Not to mention, when canceling my membership 2 days after the supposed cut off date, they stated not only would I not be refunded for the current month, I would have to pay for the following month at the increased rate!! Sounds like a great way to treat a member of 12 years right? Fellow community members, please take your business elsewhere. Its the only way to force change and treatment of this kind. read more

While it was nice of them to give me a 7 day cancellation option, they didn't initially honor it until I called headquarters. They said I was a prior member so they couldn't cancel. I was not a prior member,they made mistake. Once they figured that out, no one notified me until I called headquarters. Now I just got a monthly bill charged to my credit card even though I'm not a member. I called my credit card company to dispute. I'm tired of dealing with lifetime fitness. I recommend all to pay attention to any credit card transactions with them. You may get a charge that you were not expecting. read more

Lifetime is the best gym that I have ever belonged to. The variety of classes offered keeps me motivated. I can take spinning, yoga, water aerobics, kickboxing, strength training and much more. I am never bored. The outdoor pool is wonderful for morning water aerobics. It is not as nice as the Rochester Hills outdoor pool area though. Rochester has an outdoor deep water pool that is great for swimming laps and taking deep water aerobics. It is the only thing that I feel the Shelby center is missing. The good news is that I can go to any of their locations. They also have a nice cafe. I have started using their salon for haircuts, manicures, and pedicures. I have also had a couple of facials from the spa. Lifetime has everything I need. Almost forgot, the locker room is fantastic. It has huge private shower. It also has dressing rooms for those who prefer to change in private. read more

I used to love this gym, at the time $60 a month to go there was really worth it. The gym was well cleaned, open 24 hours, hot tub and sauna are nice.....this was about 6 months ago. Now this gym changed their hours from 24/7 to 4am-Midnight. This means if i want to come for a late night workout or a swim in the hot tub at 11,they are pushing me out the door at midnight. Right around 11:30 they start saying on the intercom when the gym closes, and then that comes in 10 minute increments. F'ing annoying. As a result, now the gym is much more populated at all hours. This means barely any machines or waiting a while to take your turn for each machine or squat bar. AND they upped their prices!! Now the price is around $80+ a month, which is absolutely ridiculous. A family of 5 would have to pay upwards of $400 a month just to attend this gym. This means if you are an adult, you also may be paying for things you do not utilize (rock wall, lap pools, classes, daycare). Many other gyms and stores can stay open 24 hours with no "safety concerns". Also, they used to be able to clean the club good, but now they have to clean it "better"??¿ Used to be a good gym, now it turned to shit, very disappointed. read more

Is this contact info you have to give them, just to find out the pricing, used to look you up and see what they think they can charge? I don't know. I love this Lifetime, but I've only been to this one and the Troy one so my perspective is limited. All the trainers here are awesome and they are obviously enthusiastic about their profession. I haven't found any of them to be pushy and they really try to accomodate. The facility is large and has always been clean in my experience. I took the kids to the pool a few times and we had a great time but it gets super busy at peak summertimes. There has been no shortage of towels in my experience. I love the child care center and so did my kids, never had a problem. The free classes fill up really fast, especially the ones around 5:30 when everyone is off work. Plenty of machines are also available. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is the price tag - this membership is WAY overpriced compared to others. I understand there are a lot more benefits at Lifetime but the advantages are being outweighed by the hefty membership cost... read more

For what you pay, it's not even worth it. Gym is over crowded and there are never any weights to use. When you want to go workout they have all their nonsense personal training classes going on at the same time where all the equipment and weights are reserved for a class being taught by a "personal trainer" who doesn't even monitor the class. If you do happen to get there when a class is going on, you won't enjoy it for long because some personal trainer will come and push you out of the spot you were in. Extremely irritating that you pay so much when you can't even use the equipment and space 99% of the time. If you are going to have classes, make sure you have a seperate room and equipment for the classes. It's bad enough the gym is already overcrowded with members. read more

I was a member here for 10 years. The gym went downhill over that time. The equipment is always broken and abused. The personal trainers are completely stuck-up and the staff, as the other reviewer stated, acts like you're bothering them. They put Girl Scouts selling cookies in the lobby. They put mortgage companies and chiropractors in the lobby to harass you as you're going up to the workout floor. They FORCE you to add your child to your membership once they're over the age of 12. Between the signs over the drinking fountains telling members not to spit in them and the nasty treatment I got from some middle-aged hefty employee named "Gabby" I was DONE!! It also nearly took a restraining order to get marketing twerp Gino Santia to quit bugging to come back. I've been at Planet Fitness for almost 2 years now and am much happier! read more

He is a talented choreographer with energy and commitment to all who attend. He greets all with interest and enthusiasm....Ike brings great joy to participants. Amazing!! I am thankful! read more
