It's just like any other planets fitness. There's exercise machines, dumbells, cardiovascular machines, circuit training, big giant propellers and everything is covered in yellow and purple. Yes I have the black card and yes I love it. All planet fitness gyms are not created equal. But this one is pretty good. Their circuit training 30 minutes workout is pretty good. I do that every time I don't get to work out for a while. Plus it really does kick your butt. Their machines are pretty good,, there's usually a treadmill or an elliptical open. I'm ok doing cardio right next to someone. It's about the work out for me and staying fit. It's not about my antisocial quirks. Anyways, I'd work out here again. I joined the Troy, MI PF in 2011. It was the first large-scale public gym I had ever joined, so I was quite impressed by all it had to offer. I continued visiting this location for several years and multiple facility improvements. Eventually I upgraded to the Black Card because I had moved out of the area but still worked in Troy, so I wanted to be able to visit multiple locations. As PFs go, Troy offers a lot of work-out options. Unfortunately, the morning staff are mostly unfriendly, with zero interest in customer service. It wasn't always that way. Staff were pretty good back in 2011 but over the years things have gotten worse and worse. At this point, I wouldn't recommend it. There are a lot of options out there. read more

The bald short white dude here must be racist or just hate his life, a few weeks ago I came here and my phone wasn't working he didn't let me in because I didn't have app. So it took me 10 min to get it open on my friends phone who was with me. And today I left my jacket on a chair at the front because I was just picking a friend up for minute and he chased me down right when I found me friend to let my friend know I'm here with the ride and he said "you can't leave your jacket over there, you need to go back and get it and take it with you or put it in a locker". Facilities are fine price is good. Issues are with staff or corporate. My credit card was expiring, so went in to fix, but they said it pulled straight from my bank account. I then got a late fee. I went in again and they said my bank info was incorrect and could not pull from CC. I said I came in to prevent that and blamed corporate? Then I upgraded to black from classic and it still has not updated. I spend too much time at counter. Bottom line - I would suggest trying Crunch or another affordable facility... read more

I used to frequent this Planet Fitness around 2012-2014 during college and now I'm back. It's super affordable (easy to cancel if necessary) and has what I need for my workout plans. This place has really changed in a good way. Noticed that there were more treadmills than before. Definitely helps when you try to come here on a weekday night when everyone is there. The women's locker room looks so much better now. The lockers are clean and new unlike before when it was showing sign of wear and tear from scratches. (Quite similar to an old high school locker back then.) Loved this place before and I'm loving it again. I'm glad that this place is still 24/7 like back then. Very convenient. read more

Worked out at this planet fitness location for a little over two years. The staff was always friendly and the facility was always clean. There is a lot of equipment available for use, so you can typically use the machine you want without a wait (depending on the time you go.) The gym received updates and the changes that they made were all great and enhanced the gym. The new look made it fit better with some of the newer plant fitness locations and makes the black card experience well worth the money that you pay for it. This was definitely one of my favorite PF home clubs. read more

This gym just got newly renovated and the grand opening is this Tuesday August 21 from 11am to 1pm. They will have food and prizes. Should definitely check it out. I have gone here before the renovation and honestly it is basically the same. They added a new stretching room. The tanning room and message chairs are basically in the same spot but is updated and nicer. They cleaned the locker rooms up but basically everything is the same. The staff is friendly. read more

My membership was terminated because I complained about being harassed by the staff about my mask. I wore it over my face, but while exercising, if it exposed my nose, a member of the staff would come over and tell me to pull it up over my nose. I am an Asian American and I noticed that other members were not being harassed by the staff and I pointed that out to management. The same day I was terminated, a member was using the elliptical in front of me without even covering his face. No one said anything to him. While being ejected, a member was walking through the front door without a mask. I had to remind the manager to say something to that person. I feel that this facility is very biased as to whom joins and if you are an Asian you should keep this in mind before signing up. I cannot believe a facility like this is allowed to operate in this day and age. read more

I wish my experience was as pleasant as some of the other yelpers, but alas, to each their own. I signed up in December for the black card membership. I went in, and waited at the counter. This snotty, oranged colored girl asked for my license, handed me a key tag, and pointed to her right and said "locker rooms are over there." Then she walked away. I had no clue if someone was supposed to show me around, she didn't give me the T-shirt I had coming, had to get that from another girl, so I was kinda put off from the beginning. The second time I had her again and she really needs to learn how to smile and like her job more. The other problem I have is they are super busy whenever I go in. I had the same problem with Fitness USA and quit them because of it. No one goes to a gym to stand around and wait for stuff to open up to use. There really isn't an issue with the treadmills and cardio machines, but twice now i've given up on weight machines. I also don't like when people just stand around other people's machines talking to them while they work out. There was a girl in front of me on a treadmill and every time I looked up her standing around friend was staring at me. THIS IS THE REASON I DON'T LIKE GOING TO THE GYM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! So, I don't know, I may check out the Warren location, or I may have just wasted $240.00... I think i'm more comfortable running the track at the local high school. Planet Fitness just opened up a few weeks ago (right behind the Sonic in Troy that's brining the masses to flood the parking lot for a cherry limeade) and promising thus far. Pros: * Price - amazing price structure. We locked into the pre-open specials and are only paying around $12 a month. * Clean - all equipment and common rooms have been clean. I always see an employee wiping down machines or vacuuming when I'm there. * New stuff - sure, it's new. All the stuff is new too. Awesome. * 30 minute workout - they constructed this mini workout plan, tucked into a half circle, for those on a quick time schedule. Light flashes to switch stations to keep the workout at 30 minutes flat. Things to consider: * Amenities: There's no pool, racquetball or basketball courts, or special yoga/workout studio spaces. Also why it doesn't cost a month's worth of groceries to be a member. * Hours: It's 24 hours during the workweek, but Saturdays and Sundays are only 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. * Trainer hours: All members get to build a workout plan with the gym's trainer and can attend classes. Catch - classes are limited to four people for each segment, and the after work schedule is limited to a few hours between Wednesday and Thursday. I'm yet to find a time that works. No weekend training hours. Overall - so far, so good. Will reevaluate after the holidays to see if they earn that last star. read more

It's been awhile since I've belonged to a gym so I was a little hesitant to purchase a membership from anywhere especially after witnessing the shit show that was the Jersey Shore...but with resolution season around the corner I thought that getting a jump on them would help me persevere this New Years. I came in for a tour and to get the lowdown on this place after seeing the Talk thread about Michigan gyms. Jennifer did my intake. She was really friendly and informative and she showed me the entire facility. If she was selling, I didn't feel like she was pitching me anything, which I liked. I knew I didn't want anyplace that took itself too seriously and as far as benchable mega-weights, I have a refrigerator at home if I feel the need to lift dangerously heavy stuff over my head. I just wanted a chill place to get some cardio, that has decent equipment and a friendly atmosphere for likeminded people interested in general fitness. What I found I liked. The facility is clean, they offer classes to small groups (while on a first come first serve basis), they have free tanning for Black card members (if that's your thing), the locker room was clean and the equipment is pretty idiot proof with diagrams showing proper execution, targeted muscle anatomy and explanation of the machine itself. Their free weights go to 65 lbs. and the machines run from upper body in the front of the gym working their way down to lower body machines towards the back. It's just a straightforward setup here and the cost for the top tier a mere $20 a month plus a mid-membership dues fee of $39. It may not be the most inclusive gym but I feel pretty at home at this place. 3-7 pm on weekdays seems to be their busiest hours but even at their peak on "free pizza Mondays" it wasn't totally slammed. And they have Free Pizza Mondays WTF...hilarious! Promoting job security...I like it. read more

Well, if you read my review about Lifetime Fitness, you know I can be a little fussy when it comes to gyms... I do have a few minor issues with Planet Fitness, but at $10 a month (and sometimes $50 down) for a basic membership, who would listen? For those of you who don't know, I'll clue you in- this is almost FREE. Now in my late 30s, I've been in countless gyms since I was about 14 years old. I've also been a part of every crowd- I've been the skinny nerdy kid, the body builder (or so I thought), later I was the fat guy, and I've been the endurance athlete on the tread mill for 3 hours training for a marathon. Never once at any gym was sand kicked in my face, was I teased, or made to feel inferior. Apparently, whoever started PF was, and their whole philosophy is that they don't judge you here- unless you're a body builder or someone in good shape, then they hate you. I think the concept is stupid and completely hypocritical and taken to extremes (there's no scale in the bathroom, I guess so you won't feel bad about yourself). Anyway, you can read all about this stuff anywhere on the Internet, people have lots to say about it, so back to the review.... Even though this mantra has created it's share of critics, I don't find it to be much of a problem in practice. I've heard a lot of negative stuff about PF, in terms of service and equipment. In truth, this place lacks very little. I've been here about 8 months, and have not really gone wanting for any piece of equipment, save maybe a few slightly heavier dumb bells and maybe a machine or two. But equipment-wise, it had everything the 3 Powerhouse Gyms I was a member at had, except the cardio equipment is more plentiful and newer. As you might expect, it attracts some not-so-serious fitness enthusiasts, probably more because of the price than their philosophy. Great for those among us who are not so fit, no so great when it comes to basic gym etiquette. People taking too long on machines because they're dawdling, yaking on cell phones when they're on equipment, not looking ahead to see if a piece of equipment is being used before hoping right on.... But it's not too bad. I actually find the members less annoying than Lifetime for the most part. Peak hours right now are kind brutal, but I there are still usually machines available- I am a little concerned though, every time I go there, it seems someone else is signing up and I wonder how long it can go before this place is so busy you CANT get a machine. On the bright side, I don't believe I am under contract with them, I can quit at any time, so if it gets annoying, I'll just leave. The free weight area is pitifully small, and the few d-bags that are in this place are usually all over it. If they drop the weights, the front desk can set off a stupid alarm that rivals the weight dropping in irritation. That's about the only thing I might want a little bigger, the dumb bell area. I find it odd that they don't stay open 24 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday- and because of that and the pool, I still keep my Lifetime membership. The gym is clean, it's cheap, and it's probably got more than enough for 80% of the members to satisfied with it, before we even get into price. Hard core fitness people might want a little more, like classes, but I even keep this as a second gym just for a change of scenery. You really don't have much to lose in giving it a try. read more

This is by far the most interesting gym I've been to. and by interesting, I mean I'm not sure if it's good or bad. They have wayyy enough cardio machines. you can always find your spot even when it's rush hour. And I don't see why you don't get the black card (the upgraded membership), you get half off on all the drinks and you get free tanning and massages. I love the half off drinks. That means I can easily leave my bottle and home and get drinks here without getting ripped off. I don't do crazy work outs so this place kinda do its job, just kind of. i'll get to why in a minute. this place opens 24 hours on weekdays and during daytime on weekends. so it's pretty convenient. now we can move on to the interesting stuff. upon the signing of my agreement, they gave me a planet fitness shirt in the size of XL. I asked for a medium size. the guy said:" we only make them in XL so we don't have to ask what size people wear." then I said "shouldn't you guys make XS sizes so people can loose weight and wear the shirt?" they also have FREE PIZZA days. PIG OUT AT THE GYM, REALLY!? unforgivable. TOTAL FAIL. "judge free zone". i mean, are you kidding? it's our nature to judge. everybody judges. how can a gym make sure that other people are not judging at their own free will? that's like promising somebody that you'll love them forever when you've only dated for a week or something. although this place do have a lot of cardio machines and weight machines, i find a couple things missing: - medicine balls. - space for people to do workouts with medicine balls, or stretch, or push ups and what not. routines, that's the word. - a pool - a basketball court - a shower room - yoga classes - zumba classes - trainers? - anything else that makes a gym LEGIT. if you want to casually work out this place is a good place to go. but if you want to drop more than 30 pounds and get serious with a certain workout routine, i suggest you go elsewhere that are more well equipped. read more

I've been a member of several gyms at this point in my life. I've been to the big and fancy ones, and the ones they write songs about, ones at schools, and ones in friends basements. I have to say, this place stacks up to the competition. The facility is convenient, situated at the end of two major cross streets in Troy, MI. It has plenty of parking, and is really easy to get to. It's open just about any time you want to go work out, being 24-hours Monday - Friday, and from 7am-7pm on the weekends. The staff, from who I have encountered, seem to enjoy their jobs. They're friendly, and don't have that "I work at a gym, I am fit and beautiful'" and thus are a douche-bag, attitude that I have encountered elsewhere. They're attentive, and at the same time, seem to keep busy with cleaning the facility and helping members. As far as cleanliness goes, the facility is pretty clean all around. It appears that the machines are all pretty new and are well kept. There have been days that some machines have dirt on them from members shoes, but the next time I'm there it's gone, so I wouldn't say it's a problem. There are cleanser sprays and paper toweling about 15 feet from you at all times in the gym to clean up the machines you're working on, and it seems like most all of the members take this que to clean up after themselves. The tanning booths leave a little to be desired as far as cleanliness goes, but those things kind of freak me out anyways, so maybe i'm just a bit picky. They do leave a cleanser spray with paper toweling, like in the gym, in every tanning stall, so you can just spray everything down, like I do, if you're paranoid about germs. Overall, it's an environment I feel comfortable working out in. People from all walks of life seem to be working out here, and there isn't anyone showing off or gawking at you while you get your fitness on. It's a nice environment, and I'll probably continue to work out here as long as I live in the area. read more

Close to both work and home, Planet Fitness fits my limited needs. Open 24 hours, low $10 monthly fee, good mix of cardio equipment and weights. The only time it's really busy and you may not get the station/machine you want is in the late afternoon to early evening. To work around that, I started performing my workouts in the morning. Some weights, 40 minutes walking on the treadmill. Can't believe I was such a slug that it took until May before I started going back, but now's the time to get active and get summer ready! Planet Fitness is for the casual to middle user and is pretty unapologetic about it. I enjoy it and recommend it for anyone with similar needs. read more

I really like working out here. I never have to wait to use a cardio or weight machine. The staff is very friendly and I love hearing, "Have a good workout," at sign-in. It's also very clean. Sure it's lacking things that other gyms have but show me a gym that offers everything PF does plus a basketball court, pool, sauna, child care, etc and still keep the membership price at $10/month. My favorite part is the circuit area. I like grabbing 3 or 5lb weights and working my upper body on the steppers. I used to bring my own weights in for that area but was told I'm not allowed. I feel bad monopolizing the weights for 30 minutes and wish they'd have a few pairs of light weights for the circuit area. I also wish they'd do a better job of enforcing the circuit area rules. If you go between 5-7pm, you're going to wait for a machine but that's normal for any gym. You can call daily and ask for their peak hours if you want to avoid the busy times. I was turned on to this gym by a family member who started off by saying. "You should go to this really cool gym it's like $10 a month." Hearing this I was skeptical and just waiting for a catch. I decided to go anyways and I was glad to be proven wrong. Let me detail why this gym is so great. There is no shortage of cardio machines in here. You could come in here on the busiest hour you can think of and I guarantee you that you'll have no problem finding a machine that's free. The only machines that do get a little crowded are the weight machines though but this generally only happens during rush hour. Overall though you should never be waiting for a machine. Secondly, the price is dirt cheap.You can choose $10/ for a normal membership which gives you full access to the machines. There is also the black card membership for $20/month which include unlimited tanning and half off drinks. A membership at normal tanning salon will be more than $20 by itself which makes this more than worth it. Lastly, the staff are extremely nice and helpful. The people at the front desk are very kind and always willing to help. There are also people on the floor always working to keep the place clean. Unless you need amenities like pool or sauna this gym simply can't be beat! read more

Been going to this gym for a while now since 2016 and finally leaving a review. This PF is quite big compared to the other ones i've been to and the cleanest. And they did a little remodeling last 2 months ago which is super nice. A lot of machines and equipents to use that are still new. The restrooms/locker room is very clean and reminds me of the airport for some reason lol. All in all, best planet fitness i've been to and im glad its close to where i live! read more

Stay away from this place. Their membership cancellation process is horrible!! I have moved out of state and called to cancel my gym membership. They do not let you do it over the phone, email or anyway that is convenient for the member. This place wants to suck all the money out of you that they can. You have to send a certified letter before the 10th of the month to get them to stop taking automatic withdrawals from your credit card. This is a horrible customer service experience Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness needs to make it easier for members to cancel and maybe then they will have a higher number of returned customers. Great gym. It's open 24 hours, lots of machines to use, no waiting time required. It's really exactly what it's saids"No frills, No judgement ". It's a clean, comfortable, non/judgement atmosphere. This is the only gym where I feel totally comfortable working out in. It's pretty clean, there's always staff cleaning and wiping and disinfecting equipment. The majority of patrons are observed utilizing the disinfectant stations before and after using the equipment . The locker room ( women ) is fairly clean. It's a public gym, of course it's not going to be spotless. All equipment is usually in good working condition. Yes the gym is busy on weekdays between 4-7pm, what gym isn't, however I have never had to wait for any equipment that I wanted to use. read more

About 5 Years later, and I've come back like the ghost of Liftmas Past to warn you about this place. So put down your baby weights, get off the reclining bike, and finish that slice of lukewarm pizza that you found in the last box at the front of the gym and open your eyes. I'm gonna deviate from my reviews and my sexuality for a second and tell you what they advertise as GOOD in this "GYM" and why it's actually bad for you. 1. COST - $10 - Good right? Cheap, you can be a member and not worry about the cost right? Wrong. $10 is cheap, sure, but this place doesn't offer you a pool, good personal trainers, squat racks, free benches, and free weights above 65 lbs. Plus they overload the place with cardio machines, leaving very little room for weight training. Which brings me to my next point. 2. CARDIO MACHINES! - You think cardio is good for you right? Are you running marathons in the near future? Any Ironmans marked off on your calendar? If not, you probably think that spending a few hours on these babies will get you the body you always dreamed of, right? Wrong. Cardio is garbage unless you get your nutrition down. And when you do, you'll lose weight and gain muscle way faster than you can with cardio. And studies have shown that too much cardio can actually burn your muscles away instead of fat. 3. WEIGHTS - No weights above 65lbs? Why? It's like they want you to stop being fit once you get to a certain point. You can't get any more muscle if you can lift more than 65lbs. Why are they trying to steal your gains? A gym should help you move forward, not stay stagnant. 4. LUNK ALARM - The most annoying thing here. Apparently if you drop a weight or grunt, an alarm is set off that tells everyone at the gym how much of a douche you are. Fitness is all about picking things up and putting them down, and challenging yourself and pushing your body to the limit. And if you push it to the limit, chances are you will fail at some point and be forced to drop the weights. If I stop before I fail, I lose that muscle tear that will grow back bigger and stronger than before. Studies have also shown that grunting actually HELPS you lift, because it tightens your diaphragm and tightens your core (expels air) allowing you to push it harder. They want to STOP that?? And did you know that this alarm is actually set off by someone at the front counter, and not a sound detection system? Now who's the douchebag? 5. LACK OF KNOWLEDGEABLE PERSONAL TRAINERS - people that come here aren't serious about fitness. Sure, they have an idea of what to do and what to look for (because of instagram) when they come here, but chances are they need help. Unfortunately, there are no PTs here to help them, and they just "lift" light weights so they think they are doing something, and then hit the cardio machines and call it a day. Sound familiar? 6. "FREE" PIZZA AND BAGELS - Nothing is free. This comes at the cost of your body and your health. You might say "well, as long as I don't eat too much of it, ill be fine", or "Once in a while is ok". Well, this might be ok, but you don't eat pizza before you work out, or after you work out. It even sounds stupid just saying it! Sure, you can say this is a "cheat meal", but chances are people that come here are not very dedicated to their health or know much about nutrition, so they just "eat healthy" and gobble up that pizza without a care in the world. Now, it sounds like I'm just bashing this gym for no good reason, but I've been here. I know who works out here and what the people who work out here look like. So what should you do, if not join this gym just to join a gym (Yes, I know why you joined this gym)? go on Youtube, learn about macros and nutrition, doing weights vs doing cardio, and how to do weights correctly. Get in the mindset that you are not just joining a gym to lose weight, but you are dedicated to making a change in your life and to change your health and your body. Then, armed with a new mindset and new knowledge, join a real gym where you can drop weights, you can grunt to crank out that last rep, and where you can generally push yourself without fear of being judged (Only PF cares about how you look, no other gym does). If you're serious about your health, PLEASE stay away from this gym. This gym does not put you in the mentality that you need to succeed. It holds you back, it makes you comfortable.
