Had to work in downtown Tacoma for a few days, I like trying small coffee shops and hit up the ol' Yelp and saw this spot was real close to me and they are open early. It's located in the downtown post office building/Court House Square on the A St. side. It's a walk up window/counter, not a store front per se. Friendly baristas on both days I came by, only a few people in line each day so they were able to fix up my latte drink pretty quickly. Coffee is tasty, lattes are nicely made as well. Prices are pretty good, they do have a menu with some specialty drinks if you into that. There's a small pastry case if you need something. Super chill vibe inside for a quiet morning and I brought that vibe to work as I walk up the street to the office. Some people at my office need to do the same. Glad I came by, will be back when I come back. read more

Purchased a cup of mocha. Burned my tongue, extremely hot, and flat. The coffee bean has fruity taste not bad, but the barista needs to do some more practice. The milk temperature was well over 200 and my tongue was injured from just the little touch of the coffee. When I asked the barista if she could make me another cup and please try to the keep temperature at 155-160ish, she wasn't happy about it and did it slowly. My cup of mocha tastes like flat full fat milk late with fruity note espresso in it. The interior seems good, but due today's experience, I won't be back here again. read more

Seats not as uncomfortable as most hip Arch't/designer spaces, where their "look" seems more important than your comfort. I ordered a drip coffee. A DRIP COFFEE!!! The barista said they had a few drinks ahead of me...fine, sure, I can wait... The barista makes all of their drinks (slowlyyyyyy) and then proceeds to make drinks and serve people who definitely arrived after me. The cafe is located in the lobby of a historic post office in downtown Tacoma with floors and walls clad in white marble and wood. Beverages are beyond the ordinary, although standard espresso drinks are well crafted. Fresh combinations of hand crafted syrups, fresh citrus, spices and more are combined for seasonal drinks to temp your pallet. Winter's spiced pear cider is to die for. There is a good selection of non-coffee drinks, including local kombucha. Pastries and quiche are made fresh and local. The presentation is artistic. Lift Bridge is the place I walk to for coffee from my workplace in Tacoma, despite the fact there is a chain shop that starts & ends with 'S' in our building; you just can't beat hand-crafted coffee that is built uniquely to the community they serve. The atmosphere inside is great for sitting and discussing with friends, and isn't noisy or chaotic. The walls are adorned with incredible artwork commissioned of a few local artists, and the area behind the counter is very well laid out. Each time I have been here, the baristas are very friendly, asking about what is new; they really treat you like a guest. The quality of the coffee is bar none, and is prepared very skillfully, with an artful expression produced in the foam of every drink. They offer a great pastry selection from a local baker. Cost-wise, the drinks are very competitive for this area. I can't ask for a better coffee shop, and have rarely found one I like as much as this. So convenient that it is right down the block from me! read more

I love coffee and this place has GREAT coffee. I've only been once so far, but my first time will not be my last! I ordered the Madama Blanc and holy moly was that amazing! The coffee was rich and smooth, just enough sweetness and the foam was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better cup! The service is great too--answered my questions, gave some great recommendations and just overall nice conversation while I wanted for my beverage. Oh, and if you're vegan--their coffees, like the Madame Blanc is made with almond milk and they offer vegan breakfast burritos too! Can't wait to try more from their menu! read more

Wow! What a gem! When my friend took me to the post office, I made a frowny face. "I thought we were getting coffee!" My frowny face faded as we walked up to a window inside the building. I rarely hand out 5-star reviews for someplace I've been to once but the experience was exceptional. Customer Service - There was one person working. She took our order, she made our coffee, cashed us out, got us pastry, basically, took care of all our needs. She was polite and conversational. Coffee - I had an iced americano and it was sublime. It was smooth, had great color, and had just enough bite. Pastry - They serve Spilled Butter pastries here. We ordered a "ding dong" and a "chocolate twinkie." The cake was moist and sweet but not overly so. The little frosted bits had a nice texture and added to the flavor of the cake. The cream inside was light and sugary with the correct balance. It wasn't too light or too heavy. It was the perfect after lunch snack to go along with our coffee. Location - Despite being near a line of 6 postal customers, it was surprisingly quiet. There were a number of places to sit and the cutest furniture in a little nook. This is definitely someplace I want to return to when I visit Tacoma! read more

This is an excellent and new coffee shop that opened up in the building where the downtown Tacoma Post Office is! I got a hot pour from a selection from a selection from Kuma Coffee which was great! There is a little area where you can put honey in with your drink. Careful for the elevated glass honey jar. You don't tip and pour, the honey comes out from the bottom. I made a bit of a mess not knowing that. The staff here are incredibly sweet and the coffee is great. Their is a small seating area in the coffee space as well as out in the lobby area of the post office where they now have tables and chairs! I'm looking forward to stopping by here on my breaks to get more of their great coffee! read more

It's no secret that I wasn't high on Tacoma when I initially moved here a few years ago. However, places like this have helped it grow on me. Places like LIFT BRIDGE COFFEE appeal to my enjoyment of pulling for the underdog. It was really kinda cool enjoying my caramel latte in what is essentially a post office. Most of Tacoma has this reclaimed, old, restored feel and this place is no exception. It is half a block away from the lift bridge and is very bare bones and yet, somehow very welcoming. The staff are a bit on the hippie side but what do you want? It's a coffeehouse. The furniture is simple, comfortable and well placed. The light pouring in through the huge, old windows was nice. I would like to know if they tend to have music? As the acoustics must be amazing bouncing off all of that marble. Overall, I would highly recommend that you walk a block past that fuckin Starbuck's (I'm totally over them since I found out they sponsor Fox fuckin' News) and support this local, independent coffeehouse. read more

One thing I love about Tacoma is that there is always something new to find. Lift Bridge Coffee is one of those really cool finds. It's tucked away in the very cool, old post office in Downtown. There are a few comfy chairs and I wished I'd had time to just hang out. The coffee is very good and I had a wonderful latte there. There was also a small but delicious selection of pastries. They're just a m-f operation, which is sad for me because I'm usually working during their hours of operation. But if you're in downtown during the week and in need of a solid cup of joe, this is a great place to go. read more

So far, the best coffee I've had in Tacoma. I tend to be a purist - coffee should be black, and maybe have a little frothy milk or cream. But these guys blew me away with a browned butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon latte that was perfectly balanced and understated enough to actually let the coffee shine yet interesting and complex. I've only been once, but need to return soon. My next two visits will be to try another one of their atypical coffee concoctions and then to get a straight up americano. read more

Lift Bridge is a gorgeous new artisan coffee walk-up in Tacoma's downtown post office building which also houses SOTA. They serve Kuma Coffee, Mad Hatter Tea and Spilled Butter Pastries (please see my review for that great mini-bakery for the lowdown). We've been by several times to test various cold & hot drinks and have loved everything thus far. Owners Wes and Adam are fantastic. They are everything the neighboring postal workers are not: friendly, funny and super good at what they do! They pull some mean drinks...and the word is that they'll be doing nitro coffee for summer. I love the design of Lift Bridge - think mid-century and small. They have an old US Postal counter for the bar, and then a seating area for about 10 people max to the side...think of a lobby in the 1940's or 50's and you'll get the idea. There are also a few chairs in the general hall....very comfy for hanging out and reading or lap top camping. Lift Bridge has the same feeling of Zeitgeist or Herkimer coffee shops in Seattle....just lovely. Open Monday - Friday, currently til 2. Punch Card Alert: Buy 10 get 1 free! Great little spot hidden away in the post office downtown. Super cute cafe with great coffee (Kuma for espresso while I was there) and a very warm and welcoming staff. Clean modern look in the historical space bodes well for the future of the building still undergoing renovation. The setup is small but there's seating available at a few tables in the space right next to the bar. Not exactly quiet here due to the acoustics of the space but not very loud either. Has sort of a New York Penn Station or LA's Union Station feel to it. Small pastry selection while I was there in the afternoon looked to be about the only food option, but that's not a bad thing. The coffee is the star of the show here. I do honestly believe it was the best cup I've had in town thus far, and I've been to most every cafe in town at this point. They're only open during the week which is a real shame, but is understandable considering the lack of traffic down there on the weekend. Hopefully things will change in the future. It is well worth the effort to check out Lift Bridge- especially if you're a serious coffee drinker. read more

being both a coffee pervert and a lover of old post offices, I had to come. they have a large window, right next to the post office window, but also a cozy sitting area both on their right as well as in the wide hallway near the palatial arched windows. the cappuccino was made well with foam being like velvet with the tell tale siena spearmint leaf adorning it. the bean used was of a lighter roast and I while I appreciate all roasts, I always prefer a medium-dark roast. I'd say it was pretty close to barrier and Bronson. they are only open till 3, so having a more Italian perspective on when coffees should be consumed, breaking away from the PNW anytime/anyplace mantra. I'd come again if in the area doing other business during that short window, but with the tight paid parking during the day, I wouldn't make a special stop. read more

Coffee is excellent, but the service is very lacking. Feels like at one point there was more concern for the regular customers, but seems as though there has been a bit of turnover with folks that don't really smile or go out their way to be friendly. I used to visit 2-3x per week, the experience became less consistent with them running out of things, the turnover, and attitude from a couple of the female staff. My visits have cut back to 1x every 2 weeks or so, and even then I ponder if I feel like dealing with the lack of customer engagement. One thing if you are going stay small, but if you don't get the customer service down pat you will be taken out by your competition. read more

Got an Americano and the coffee was real sour but customer service was good and it's an adorable place. My guess is the shots need to pour a little longer for a full extraction.
