I am a 47 year-old male and live a pretty active lifestyle. Injuries from lifting, Spartan racing, and skateboarding - as well as slouching in my office chair for years - have taken their toll on my body. I experienced occasional back pain and had difficulty running long distances because my lower joints would ache. I rarely used my stand-up desk at work because it also hurt my hips, knees and feet. In the past I've only used chiropractors sparingly when I experienced pain instead of for ongoing treatment. But when I met Dr. Mike, I agreed to a check up with x-rays and a mobility test, and discovered I had spinal degeneration and misalignment. So thankful to have found this place! I've been dealing with lower back pain for a bit which impacted my ability to do the things I love or even functional living. I came in after seeing Dr. Pinto at the Brentwood farmers market (pre Covid) and got an incredible introductory offer. Truthfully, coming here every week is the highlight of my week as I leave feeling refreshed, energized and ready to tackle anything the day/week may bring. After taking X-rays, we devised a plan on how often I should come in based off of a set of goals we came up with together. After every adjustment, there is a set of movements they teach you and have you do to supplement your adjustment... every few sessions extra movements are added on, all which help achieve the most from your adjustments. There are regular movement tests and additional X-Rays to show progress at which point you reevaluate your goals (more/less/same amount of sessions a week, etc). Have you ever been faced with the thought of never walking again? Ever been forced to choose between living in agonizing pain or having a surgery which could potentially leave you paralyzed? Facing those choices is not just "scary"... it's downright terrifying. You see, I was in a rock climbing accident. I slipped, fell thirty feet straight down, and landed on one leg. Now...I was lucky in that I didn't bust my knees, shatter an ankle, or crack my head. I'll give you that. But I did totally compact my entire left side which pinched nerves in my lumbar/sacral area. I was confined to laying on the floor of my living room for 90+ days before I could even move enough to go to the bathroom by myself. No work, no life, no health, just tv from living room floor. My girlfriend became my live in nurse. She fed me, bathing me, and even cleaning up bedpans. All the while my "doctor" prescribing pain pills like they were tic-tacs. The choices given to me by my HMO doc were either A) live a life of pain managed by opioids, or B) have surgery to try and fix my nerves and spine. One catch though...I'd have to risk paralysis I only share this for context...because after 5 months of living like this...I was desperate for anything to give me some relief. While discussing the pros and cons of surgery with my lady, she recommended I at least hear what a chiropractor had to say before going under the knife. After all, they are spine specialists, right? So, I figured what could it hurt? Figured it was best to have all the cards on the table when making my decision. So...I went to see Dr Mike. Now...never having been to see a chiropractor before...I had NO IDEA what to expect. And I was a little apprehensive. (I was raised up under western medicine where there's a pill or surgery for every ailment. Hahaha) Little did I know, this decision would forever change my view on "medicine" and my way of life. I was blown away by Dr. Mike. He's very professional. I could tell from our first meeting that he's not only very intelligent, but also very passionate about his craft, and the connection between body and mind. Dr. Mike took the time to go through my past health history, my present situation, and discuss a plan to get me to my "ideal" future. In 2 sessions he knew more about me than my general practitioner of 20 years. The plan he put together was more like a "life plan" - not just a "care" plan. Anyways, we discussed the plan, he answered all 1,000 of my questions, and he made sure I was comfortable and on board with it, before we proceeded with his recommendations. In addition to the spinal adjustments he made sure I continued to move daily as well as taught me how my spine is designed to move. I had accumulated a lot as a result of being rough on my body over the last 30 years. He taught me a daily movement routine, gave some diet change suggestions, and off we went down the care path. Hands down the best decision I have ever made. In just a few months (and by doing the stretching and changing my diet) I am basically pain free and mobile again!! To think that a few weeks earlier I was contemplating risking surgery is mind boggling to me! Walking, running and even climbing again all pain free. Even my GP couldn't believe the turn around. And, on top of correcting the spinal injury, I no longer have sinus issues or migraines, and I sleep way better than before the accident. I cannot recommend seeing Dr. Brook enough!! I have dealt with many chronic issues due to sports injuries. Throughout my youth and in college I played football and rugby. During my time as an athlete in these sports I injured my knee, my back, my neck, my shoulders, my collar bones, and, last but not least, my face and jaw. These injuries have followed me and became somewhat of an issue when I trained for the LA Marathon, most recently completing it in 2020. Between then and now I began working as an attorney, while often at a desk, only to further worsen my previous issues and injuries. Dr. Mike helped me transform my life. Before June 2019, I was 1.5 years postpartum with my first son. Since his birth, I had extreme lower back pain.
