Visited for the first time with my son, who recommended the location. We entered on a quiet Tuesday morning and it was 1/2 full. We were quickly seated and approached with menus and settings. I had the french toast with bacon and my son had the pancakes with a bagel. He had a cup of coffee and I ordered a white milk. The food was delivered quickly and it was awesome. Great breakfast! What a great start to my Monday morning. It was the exceptional service for me. The special is only to go but he allowed me to sit and eat. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Simple yet satisfying. Can not beat that for $6 I have been wanting to try this place for a while, and I'm glad I finally did. The food was good, typical diner/homestyle fare. Service was friendly as well, and the ambiance had a cute homey feel. The only reason I am knocking off stars is because I was charged extra for things I didn't know were extra (the menu nor waitress addressed this). For example, charging $1 for a small thing of jelly and $1 for hot sauce was surprising to see on the bill considering most places give these out with no charge. Recently I organized a mini-family reunion at the Lighthouse Cafe, including 8 extended family members. I asked the Lighthouse owners if they could accommodate us at one table in the rear of the restaurant. They did. The service was outstanding and timely, coordinating multiple orders with custom preferences. The 5-egg omelettes were great and substantial, including the side dishes, drinks and many other fixings. Went with my fiancé and parents recently. Got there and it wasn't busy at all. Even with this the service was super slow, never asked us if we wanted refills or need anything additional when our meals came out. My moms Mexican omelet was supposed to come with black beans in it...there was a totally of three. When she asked to get a bowl of them on the side since she noticed they gave her a bowl of a total of 8 beans. In the back we could see the waitress talking to the owners and they seemed annoyed by this request. The waitress then scoffed at her when she decided not to eat them as she felt they gave to her the small portion out of spite. She informed the waitress how she felt and the waitress just stood there. Very unprofessional, do not recommend going here. I would say my favorite part of ordering breakfast from Lighthouse Cafe was that there were not two eggs on my eggs benny, but three! The English muffins were a little tough and hard to cut, even with normal cutlery not the takeout kind they provide. But for $8.50 for three eggs benny, I might be ordering this again. The meat burrito, their take on a breakfast burrito, was just okay: nothing fancy. It was cut up into pieces which did make it easier to eat. I'm a bit of a regular at this place. Whenever i don't have enough time to make breakfast usually I'll order a breakfast burrito and pick it up. Pretty much the one thing I order. The food is phenomenal, don't get me wrong. the breakfast burrito comes with a cup of salsa and a cup of sour cream. sometimes the cups, I have NO CLUE why, would have issues. Today pushed me a bit over the edge. Is there a shortage of Salsa and Sour Cream? are we rationing the salsa? i don't understand! I've worked in the restaurant business and i always fill the cups 3/4 the way minimum. This is just ridiculous. Today the food was a bit under seasoned but what can't a bit of my salt packets do. I got my eggs fried but they came over easy. They only gave me two slices of bacon. The hash browns we're lacking in salt but cooked well. Although it's nothing fancy, there is something really appealing about the local feel, cheap prices, lighthouse emblem, and breakfast specials taunting me each morning. I never saw this place before it's renovation, but the new decor is fresh, open, clean, and inviting. It gets busy weekend mornings, but nothing compared to the crazy wait lines for similar joints in Somerville. The biggest draw for this space is the food, and not because it's the most exotic or briliantly prepared menu. The portions are ample, and the food is tasty, and reminds me of something I might cook up at home myself. If I had any request, it would be that they should serve higher quality orange juice. Didn't expect any extras or fancy add-ons because when you walk into the cafe, it's obvious it is an old-timer breakfast/lunch spot. The food overall was decent and there wasn't that much hash browns under the toast. But our breakfast plates (we all ordered eggs) took 40 minutes to come out. I understand there was only one cook, but there was a total of 5 tables and the cafe wasn't even half full. When the server came to take our plates, she put down all the other plates on our table and started sorting through the dirty dishes so it would be easier to carry to the kitchen, not minding the leftover food that was falling on our table that wasn't even from our plates. For the price and location, it doesn't get much better. I love breakfast and this is my favorite place to stop in the area. I love I can get so much food for $10 or less, and have never had bad service in the 3 years I've been visiting. I've been coming here since I was in high school (now in college), which means I *always* come with a big group of classically annoying students. We have never once had a problem with getting our check split, though the different waitresses do it differently (some just take our orders on separate checks, some have us list off what was ours at the end of the meal and then she divvys it up), have never had our food mixed up, and always receive the right food, though it doesn't always come out at the same exact time (which is okay by us, given it's only a few minutes difference). We usually go when it's quiet (I've never seen a full house), usually on a weekday, and easily get our table of preference! It is a little hard getting a waitress' attention at first, but we've never been in a situation where they've ignored our table. We've always gotten the drinks/food/items we need (and always tip exorbitantly as a result). Drinks are good. Nothing special, but for this price you're not getting hand pressed juice and home made chocolate milk! What's really great is the french toast, which is always luxurious and honestly, unlike anything I've seen in the area before. I also enjoy their pancakes, which come in a hefty portion size. We always have to pass around our plates at the end of our meal because we're simply too full to finish! Their potatoes aren't great, but honestly I've been to maybe one diner where I've had good hashbrowns or homefries. My friends liked them, though. Sometimes my over easy eggs are cooked a little too hard, but it's not the worst I've experienced; I've many times received raw eggs or practically scrambled at other places. Their food, except the french toast, does come out a little bland, but plenty of condiments and options are offered to spice it up. I like this, honestly, because you can make it to your own taste. I do wish the toast was buttered in the kitchen, since with a big group it sometimes gets cold by the time it's served and is difficult to butter, but I've never bothered to ask for it buttered in kitchen. Overall, great service, great food for the price, decent interior, awesome location. I wouldn't order delivery breakfast from *anywhere*, and I would go during a quiet hour for the best experience, since it sounds like their staff have trouble with rush. This place is exactly what you think it will be if you take it face value. My boyfriend and I love this spot! We don't expect the best service as it's usually just one server and a cook or two. Food is exceptionally fresh and well presented (again) for what it is. It's a diner people! Not a Newbury street cafe! The cornbread muffins will keep me coming back. The food always comes out exactly as ordered so that's a plus! I sent it back for some cheese and they put a slice of cheese on it and microwaved it. The French toast was fine. The prices are reasonable. However the quality has gone way downhill. No more fresh potatoes, the hash browns were from a package. My mother didn't want to come here this morning. She had warned me because she had come with her friend and they had an awful meal. The staff was friendly, the prices are amazingly cheap, and it was pretty busy so we were off to a good start. I had the 3 eggs w/ bacon, toast, and blueberry pancakes. The eggs were cooked just right, the bacon was very lean which was good but the pancakes looked delicious but the flavor was lackluster which was sad and odd. My other half had the corned beef with hash and eggs. I had some of his hash & beef but both were disappointing. I love crispy hash but this tasted like it was sitting on the griddle for way to long--dry & slightly burnt. The corned beef tasted like it was from a can so that was also disappointing.
