Kool Beanz Cafe remains a Tallahassee institution. I came to visit while in town and I'm so glad to…read morehave experienced their out of the box menu, with some staples that remain on it. Staff was kind and friendly. Patient with any questions. Started with the black bean cakes. They were a great portion and so delicious. Then shared a salad and a fish entree over jambalaya rice. Both were so delicious and fresh. The fish was so tender and juicy. The dressing on the salad was also delicious. Didn't have room for dessert but really enjoyed dinner here. Ambiance was nice and chill. Enjoyed their dog paintings on the wall. Can't wait to come back here in the future!

Of late we have had some success getting here during their lunch hours which has reminded me of just how good they are. The menu changes some pretty regularly so there are new ideas to try over time. There also are dishes that have stood the test of time that will always be present. The rainbow trout is one of those and you will never go wrong ordering that. Always delicious. Otherwise have at the several choices that may appeal to your taste. I doubt that you won't like it. The location is a converted mini market. I am remembering that the first restaurant conversion was a classic diner that was good for breakfast but Kool Beanz has been here for a long time and thriving. Some of the best seats in the house can actually be on a stool at the counter watching the chefs ply their trade. There's an additional large dining room at the end of the building and they have created a nice outdoor space as well. What may be hard to come by when they are busy is a parking space. Service has always been friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable considering the creativity that is involved. You will pay more at dinner which is why we love to catch them at lunch.

There are many great restaurants in Tallahassee, but not all restaurants have great dessert…read more While Food Glorious Food is one of our favorites for lunch and brunch, it's our absolute "go to" for picking up a dessert on the way home. Whether it is a seasonal special, or the classic "perfect chocolate cake" we are never left with a sugar craving that can't be satisfied. The counter service for "desserts to go" is just as impeccably staffed as in the restaurant. They take their time making sure that your dessert is plated beautifully for when you arrive home to enjoy it. We also enjoy popping in for dessert and coffee, as there is usually a spot at the bar or the community table. There really is no wrong time to go to Food Glorious Food. Regardless of the time of day, your dessert is sure to be GLORIOUS.

We went back to Food Glorious Food with high expectations after a hiatus of a couple of years. In…read moreprevious visits we had had very nice brunches and lunches. A recent, glowing review in TALLAHASSEE Magazine whetted our appetites for an updated and re-imagined cuisine. What a let-down! We were told the menu changes daily, which is hard to believe. The indoor seating is marginally attractive, in a cold, windowless dining room with concrete floors and walls that bounces sound like ping-pong tables. The table was so unstable and shaky, I feared for the glasses of water that finally arrived. The waiter was blase, collegiate, and nonchalant about the menu offerings. No bread or condiments offered, just water, when we did not wish the wine list. We ordered the small plates of fried oysters, with sides of garlic spinach and potato fries, a "T-bone steak" with mashed sweet potatoes and spinach, and a Caesar salad to share. These were served piece-meal and slowly from the kitchen, by our waiter who seemed in a rush, although the dining room was only one-quarter full. The oysters arrived, ($18) a plate of heavily fried batter and sauce, but scarcely a trace of real oysters inside. My wife found something that looked like the nub of a rubber band inside one battered lump. The Caesar salad was adequate but uninteresting. ($14). The sides of potatoes ($5) were thin slivers of greasy-stick-like crunchies that could have come out of a can. The spinach side never arrived. My "T-bone steak" ($18) was largely t-bone, with a minimum of meat and some gristle and fat that had not been trimmed away, leaving 3 or 4 small bites of steak. It was cooked medium-rare. I asked the waiter why he'd not asked me how I like my steak cooked, and the indifferent answer was "it's all cooked the same." The sweet potato mash was not bad, but too sweet with the addition of brown sugar, which obscured the flavor. To finish this mercifully, we complained to the manager. She apologized for the poor quality and to her credit offered us a free dessert, which we declined to take. Our waiter never offered any apology or comment. He simply walked away. So we left, leaving the food uneaten on the table. We cannot account for the poor food quality and service except as FGF must be dealing with poor food quality from suppliers, and a new and inexperienced wait staff. As for the desserts, without trying any we admit that they look extremely attractive and well-presented. When and if there is significant improvement in food and service, we'd like to give FGF another try.
