    Chicken Philly and potato salad
    Diane H.

Wanting a sandwich on a Sunday, we headed over to Uptown Cafe near the main hospital. This cafe has been in business for just over 40 years and is a family-owned business. Support the local places. Apparently plenty of people agree because on an average Sunday the place was packed inside and out. We probably waited 45 minutes, which is more than we should have, but we didn't want to go elsewhere. So, we played on our phones and browsed the menu so we could order when our server greeted us. There are plenty of breakfast and lunch options to choose from, including omletes, scrambles, pancakes, french toast, sandwiches and salads. They are known for their smoked salmon! We were finally seated in the outdoor patio dining area. There were fans blowing and we didn't notice the heat as much. Our server was pleasant, but we could tell they were busy. We quickly ordered and received our drinks. Maybe 25 minutes later our sandwiches arrived. We ordered the Chicken Philly and the Blackened Chicken Wrap Press. Sandwiches and wraps are served with a bag of chips, potato salad or fresh fruit. Let me tell you, the quantity of potato salad is huge. Served in a soup bowl! Delicious too, I might add. We each finished about 1/4 each of the potato salad and half our respective sandwiches. We asked for to go boxes and received them and the check fairly swiftly. You will not leave hungry! All in all, it was a good lunch. We just have to figure out a better time to avoid the wait.

Wow, the service here is incredible! The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Love the painted murals and flowers. A cutesy little cafe with great service and delicious food. I had a hard time choosing what to order because it all looked so good. I ended up getting the "option" and my husband got the turkey avocado sandwich. I was blown away by the dill mayo that was on my sandwich. So good! And the signature mint ice tea that they served hit the spot. Overall such an amazing lunch spot!

We love going to local diners for breakfast and this place was very good and well worth searching out. The staff is very friendly and we had a brief wait and were able to enjoy the free coffee they had available. The menu is the typical breakfast fare with a few personalized additions. The food arrived promptly and we were surprised at the huge portions. The food tasted so good and our coffee mug was never half empty. A great way to start the day.

On a football weekend in Tallahassee, our family stopped in for Sunday brunch at Uptown Cafe. This is a funky little place on the outskirts of town. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated. I liked the setting, it gave a Diners, Drive In's, and Dives vibe! The food was delicious! I went with a bacon, cheddar, and mushroom omelette with an awesome biscuit. My rule of thumb is when in the South, order biscuits as much as possible! My wife had this amazing banana bread French Toast. I had a taste and loved it! One of the boys ordered the pancake which literally filled the entire plate. If you're in Tally and looking for a good breakfast or lunch, stop here, you won't be sorry you listened to me!

The BEST bacon I've had. The banana bread French toast was absolutely delicious! The server was very kind! The outside seating was great, well shaded and fans. Everything was great!

First time trying this restaurant. I loved the laid back, comfortable ambiance. They offer eating inside or on their covered patio. Nice menu filled with breakfast and lunch options, both non vegan and vegan. I tried the breakfast burrito with grits and coffee. All very delicious and large portions. A+++

Found this little cafe through yelp and they had limited outdoor seating with covid. I ordered the smoked salmon omelet after looking at some photos. The omelet was good but only came with a side of toast, nothing else. Thought that was strange for a breakfast place. The prices were okay. There were alfalfa sprouts definitely made the omelet taste funny. Service was average. Seems like with their reduced offerings, they have less wait staff there.

There was a little wait this morning but it was worth it. Our server was really nice and I appreciate his attention. Folks were outside waiting for parking and we lucked into a space. Can you say "Mint sweet tea ?!" Yes try a glass or two! Everything was really good. I tried the banana bread French toast and the salmon omelette. Very nice crunch on the French toast! I would return for a nice Tallahassee breakfast for sure.

    Mancakes!

Decided to try a highly rated local place and Uptown absolutely delivered. After looking at the menu, I was drawn to the Mancakes. Seriously pancakes loaded with bacon, sausage , and ham! Then if that was enough had to over medium eggs dropped on top. So much food! It was definitely worth the calories as it was a great mix of sweet, salty , and savory. I highly recommend Uptown Cafe and will be back to try more items!

I came here on a Thursday morning, it was rather impromptu. I was somewhat indecisive on what to order because the menu is quite comprehensive. I settled on the Uptown Benny because it was the dish that I was least likely to create at my own home even though after trying it I might try to replicate it. It was delicious, filling and a really nice size for the price. I also appreciated that they give you reusable to-go containers. The table service I received was very attentive and patient as I tried to decide what I was going to have. I highly recommend this spot for someone looking to dine local.

If you are missing a good home meal, COME HERE. Everyone is friendly , knowledgeable, and their recommendations are so so good Between the ABLT, with their homemade dill cream cheese spread, to the French toast banana bread, and true to Sunday brunch mimosa's, everything so delectable. Not only did they have amazing food, they are pet friendly and the sweet ladies behind the register brought out a water dish twice my little lady's her size to make sure she was also taken care of!

The Johnny Cash Omelet with Bradley's Sausage instead of ham, served aside wheat toast

I stopped into Uptown Cafe for lunch on Saturday and I now understand what all of the Uptown rage is about! My first recommendation before moving to Tallahassee actually came from a fellow Yelper and it was to visit this restaurant, as well as to secure a home for rent within about a two mile radius of this vicinity. I accomplished each of the aforementioned tasks (although it took me more than two months to dine here - and boy, was it worth it!). I ordered the Johnny Cash Omelet and was allowed to substitute the ham for Bradley's sausage and it was SO delicious! Shortly before our meals were served, a lady (who I presume was the manager or head chef) came out to notify me that the omelet egg had cooked a little harder than she felt comfortable serving. She offered to remake the meal, and I told her that I had not dined there before so I might not mind the overcooked egg, but that I didn't really have anything to compare it to - to which she immediately replied that she would happily remake it. That conversation immediately indicated to me me that the staff at Uptown Cafe is very conscientious and responsive to customer needs. They actually care about the quality of food they are serving their customers and demonstrated impressive flexibility in offering to remake something before a customer event feels or expresses dissatisfaction. I am looking forward to returning to Uptown Cafe with my family when they visit in a few weeks. I definitely plan to experience more of their breakfast menu!

    Blackened Chicken Hash Brown
    Amanda H.

This amazing little Cafe is located across the street from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. If you blink while driving by you will miss it. This is the place to get that great cafe food. Their smoked salmon is amazing. However, today I ordered the Blackened Chicken Hash Browns for around $12. This is not my first time enjoying this marvelous tummy stuffing heaven of a meal. The blackened chicken is tasteful and goes while with the two over easy eggs, sautéed onions and peppers, feta cheese, and perfectly cooked shredded hash browns. Just like any times before eating this glorious meal, it was made hot to order and just like I love. The savory flavors were on point and the staff was friendly as they always are. I highly recommend this place whether your craving breakfast, brunch, or any meal.

Whether it is a seasonal special, or the classic "perfect chocolate cake" we are never left with a sugar craving that can't be satisfied. The counter service for "desserts to go" is just as impeccably staffed as in the restaurant. They take their time making sure that your dessert is plated beautifully for when you arrive home to enjoy it. We also enjoy popping in for dessert and coffee, as there is usually a spot at the bar or the community table. There really is no wrong time to go to Food Glorious Food. Regardless of the time of day, your dessert is sure to be GLORIOUS.

We went back to Food Glorious Food with high expectations after a hiatus of a couple of years. In…read moreprevious visits we had had very nice brunches and lunches. A recent, glowing review in TALLAHASSEE Magazine whetted our appetites for an updated and re-imagined cuisine. What a let-down! We were told the menu changes daily, which is hard to believe. The indoor seating is marginally attractive, in a cold, windowless dining room with concrete floors and walls that bounces sound like ping-pong tables. The table was so unstable and shaky, I feared for the glasses of water that finally arrived. The waiter was blase, collegiate, and nonchalant about the menu offerings. No bread or condiments offered, just water, when we did not wish the wine list. We ordered the small plates of fried oysters, with sides of garlic spinach and potato fries, a "T-bone steak" with mashed sweet potatoes and spinach, and a Caesar salad to share. These were served piece-meal and slowly from the kitchen, by our waiter who seemed in a rush, although the dining room was only one-quarter full. The oysters arrived, ($18) a plate of heavily fried batter and sauce, but scarcely a trace of real oysters inside. My wife found something that looked like the nub of a rubber band inside one battered lump. The Caesar salad was adequate but uninteresting. ($14). The sides of potatoes ($5) were thin slivers of greasy-stick-like crunchies that could have come out of a can. The spinach side never arrived. My "T-bone steak" ($18) was largely t-bone, with a minimum of meat and some gristle and fat that had not been trimmed away, leaving 3 or 4 small bites of steak. It was cooked medium-rare. I asked the waiter why he'd not asked me how I like my steak cooked, and the indifferent answer was "it's all cooked the same." The sweet potato mash was not bad, but too sweet with the addition of brown sugar, which obscured the flavor. To finish this mercifully, we complained to the manager. She apologized for the poor quality and to her credit offered us a free dessert, which we declined to take. Our waiter never offered any apology or comment. He simply walked away. So we left, leaving the food uneaten on the table. We cannot account for the poor food quality and service except as FGF must be dealing with poor food quality from suppliers, and a new and inexperienced wait staff. As for the desserts, without trying any we admit that they look extremely attractive and well-presented. When and if there is significant improvement in food and service, we'd like to give FGF another try.
