Took my mother and wife out for brunch recently, and I can confidently say this place is one of the best local spots for breakfast and brunch. Everything we ordered, from the massive Uptown pancake to the perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs, was absolutely delicious. The service was quick, friendly, and attentive, which made the experience even better. What really stood out was how accommodating the staff were with my mother's food allergies. They took extra care to make sure everything was safe for her, which we really appreciated. We chose to sit out on the patio, which was nice overall. The repetitive sound of the pedestrian crossing signal nearby did get a bit annoying after a while, but that minor detail didn't take away from an otherwise fantastic brunch outing. We've eaten here a number of times & always had a good experience. Years ago we had the smoked salmon, & wanted to order two for a large upcoming family brunch. I went in to order & the woman at the register told me they preferred customers to order online. If I had any trouble with that, to please come back. I tried to order a week later, for pickup, when the desired date showed as an option. But the order wouldn't go through, with the system telling me that it wasn't accepting online orders. So I went in a second time. The manager could not have been less interested in making the sale, telling me they might not have the salmon then. This was on the 11th, for pickup on the 22nd. If they had some now I could buy it, he said, but they didn't. When I asked if placing an order wasn't the same as reserving it for the desired day, he shrugged as he said yeah, but that they might not have it. He was offhand about a product they tout as a regular thing. I give up. read more

Wanting a sandwich on a Sunday, we headed over to Uptown Cafe near the main hospital. This cafe has been in business for just over 40 years and is a family-owned business. Support the local places. Apparently plenty of people agree because on an average Sunday the place was packed inside and out. We probably waited 45 minutes, which is more than we should have, but we didn't want to go elsewhere. So, we played on our phones and browsed the menu so we could order when our server greeted us. There are plenty of breakfast and lunch options to choose from, including omletes, scrambles, pancakes, french toast, sandwiches and salads. They are known for their smoked salmon! We were finally seated in the outdoor patio dining area. There were fans blowing and we didn't notice the heat as much. Our server was pleasant, but we could tell they were busy. We quickly ordered and received our drinks. Maybe 25 minutes later our sandwiches arrived. We ordered the Chicken Philly and the Blackened Chicken Wrap Press. Sandwiches and wraps are served with a bag of chips, potato salad or fresh fruit. Let me tell you, the quantity of potato salad is huge. Served in a soup bowl! Delicious too, I might add. We each finished about 1/4 each of the potato salad and half our respective sandwiches. We asked for to go boxes and received them and the check fairly swiftly. You will not leave hungry! All in all, it was a good lunch. We just have to figure out a better time to avoid the wait. read more

Wow, the service here is incredible! The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Love the painted murals and flowers. A cutesy little cafe with great service and delicious food. I had a hard time choosing what to order because it all looked so good. I ended up getting the "option" and my husband got the turkey avocado sandwich. On a football weekend in Tallahassee, our family stopped in for Sunday brunch at Uptown Cafe. This is a funky little place on the outskirts of town. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated. I liked the setting, it gave a Diners, Drive In's, and Dives vibe! The food was delicious! I went with a bacon, cheddar, and mushroom omelette with an awesome biscuit. My rule of thumb is when in the South, order biscuits as much as possible! My wife had this amazing banana bread French Toast. I had a taste and loved it! Found this little cafe through yelp and they had limited outdoor seating with covid. I ordered the smoked salmon omelet after looking at some photos. I stopped into Uptown Cafe for lunch on Saturday and I now understand what all of the Uptown rage is about! My first recommendation before moving to Tallahassee actually came from a fellow Yelper and it was to visit this restaurant, as well as to secure a home for rent within about a two mile radius of this vicinity. I accomplished each of the aforementioned tasks (although it took me more than two months to dine here - and boy, was it worth it!). I ordered the Johnny Cash Omelet and was allowed to substitute the ham for Bradley's sausage and it was SO delicious! Shortly before our meals were served, a lady (who I presume was the manager or head chef) came out to notify me that the omelet egg had cooked a little harder than she felt comfortable serving. She offered to remake the meal, and I told her that I had not dined there before so I might not mind the overcooked egg, but that I didn't really have anything to compare it to - to which she immediately replied that she would happily remake it. That conversation immediately indicated to me me that the staff at Uptown Cafe is very conscientious and responsive to customer needs. They actually care about the quality of food they are serving their customers and demonstrated impressive flexibility in offering to remake something before a customer event feels or expresses dissatisfaction. I am looking forward to returning to Uptown Cafe with my family when they visit in a few weeks. I definitely plan to experience more of their breakfast menu! read more

The blackened chicken is tasteful and goes while with the two over easy eggs, sautéed onions and peppers, feta cheese, and perfectly cooked shredded hash browns. I've been going to Uptown for years, and enjoying their curbside pickup during the pandemic. I recently had a chance to eat there, sitting outside (no indoor seating at that time) for brunch. The service was attentive. My coffee cup never emptied and the food came quickly. I ordered my personal favorite: the BD omelette. This has Bradley's sausage and their "Greek mix" with has spinach and feta. It's huge and delicious. I also had an order of kartofel: griddled potatoes, red peppers and onions with paprika. It's also a standout dish. So I'd now be telling you they get 5 stars. Except for how the food and coffee were served: paper plates, plastic utensils and styrofoam cup. And this was to eat at the restaurant, not to go. It's wasteful and inexcusable. I'm sure it's easier to not have to hire and pay a dishwasher, but that's no excuse. It's simply wasteful and lazy. Come on: go back to actual dishes with actual mugs and actual silverware. For this reason, only 4 stars. Sad but true. read more

We stopped in on our way to Orlando and wanted to get a down home breakfast. It's a small quaint place with a lot of local impact. Our server was very nice and we were greeted by more than one person when we came in. We hade the bacon pancakes and the corn beef hash. The bacon in the pancake was a neat concept. The bacon was over cooked and the pancake was okay. The hash was below average. They took corn beef, cut it up and cooked it somehow and add what tasted like frozen hash browns and they were to crispy. I ate it because we were in a hurry but this wasn't the experience I was looking for. The cinnamon roll was bad ice. I thought I was getting a fresh one but then I saw the server take one from the tray that had been sitting out and everyone had passed by it to be seated! It was dry and needed more icing. I was not feeling the BD until I found the sausage. THAT was the point when all flavors came together and the BD was elevated to a new palatte of flavors. Pancake: 2.5 stars. This place is a hidden gem. It definitely looks run down and random when you first walk in but the food is outstanding and the waiters are so nice. I got the smoked salmon omelet and it's probably the best omelet I've ever had. My hubby has always told me this place was great so on a Sunday afternoon my niece and I were in the area and popped in for brunch. We weren't disappointed! After parking in the back, we walked through the patio seating area into a clean hosting room where a friendly guy explained how to sign in for the waiting list and to have a seat outside where they provided coffee while you wait. It was great to be in a space not crammed with people during the Delta Covid spike. We waiting about 20 min before being seated in the outdoor dining area, not long at all. I ordered the pancake with blueberries and pecans, it overflowed my oval plate in ALL directions and was totally delish. If I were to change anything, I'd make the pancake smaller so the blueberries and pecans would seem more in abundance and be more proportionate to the pancake. As it was I still ate a lot because it was so good but I also left a lot because I eventually stopped eating after I picked out all of the good stuff...the remaining carbs were too much for me. My niece ordered the eggs on grits bowl topped with salmon with a croissant on the side. It looked really pretty and was more than she could eat. The grits were made with cream cheese which made them super creamy...she loved it all! The inside dining was well spaced but I still wasn't comfortable eating in considering that if I don't work, I don't get paid and I don't have paid time off so I can't afford to really even catch a cold. Also, should I need to go to the ER or heaven forbid, be admitted to the hospital, my insurance doesn't cover anything until I hit my $7700 deductible. SO, the porch was a wonderful option! It was about 86 degrees and climbing but the outdoor fan helped. Adding some oscillating tower fans in the corners would be a nice touch since covid sends makes outside the only logical choice for someone like me. But, it was tolerable and didn't interfere with our enjoyment of the meal or the ambiance; I would love to visit when it's cooler though and stay longer. Loved the wall mural in the patio dining area. So glad I got to finally eat Uptown, we'll be back and especially to see our fun server Ryan who took such great care of us! read more

The menu has grown to have just about everything you could want for breakfast or lunch, pandemic precautions are terrific and the owners communicate that, and They aim to please. I asked for something that wasn't on the menu but for which all the ingredients were on the menu, and they accommodated me without batting an eyelash. I absolutely love Uptown Cafe and highly recommend everyone try it. But beware- you can wait up to 1.5 hours for a table, so I would suggest not showing up starving at 11am on a Sunday (last weekend we waited over an hour for a table of 4 people). Despite the wait, I really appreciate the fact that they have a table with water and coffee for everyone waiting. Also, the food is SO worth it. I've had their Cuban sandwich and their smoked salmon salad and both meals were super filling and flavorful. Make sure to try out Uptown Cafe ASAP!! read more
