The patio is huge and a wonderful place to sit on a warm summer day. The tavern is part of a set of wonderful businesses along this block of Jarvis, including Charmers (coffee), Horseplay (gifts), Taste (wine, liquor and more), R Public House (bar/restaurant) and Jarvis Square Books (bookstore). The business owners here are trying hard to build up a good sense of community and I think they succeed. It's easy to get here on transit, just steps from the Jarvis red line stop, and it's been my favorite neighborhood bar for almost five years now. Thanks to Tony, A. Our experience has always been delightful and we love supporting a local establishment, but, this evening i was treated so poorly by one of their bartenders, Im seriously reconsidering my former opinion. My friend and I originally sat on the patio, i took advantage of a great happy hour deal and ordered a flight of margaritas. One of the drinks was a spicy margarita and it had yummy tahini salt on the rim of the glass. Eventually, the bees on the patio drover us inside where we sat at the bar to finish our drinks. The bartender didn't seem too thrilled to have us there, which was odd because, at the time, the place had only 4 other customers sitting inside. The bartender never approached us, or acknowledged us in any way. i finished my drinks and wanted another spicy margarita. Since the bartender obviously didn't want to wait on us, I ordered it from our original server. The restaurant still wasn't busy but it took 15 minutes to get my margarita. when it finally arrived, it had no salt on the rim, but my server scurried away so quickly, i didnt have a chance to ask her about it. It took me another 10 minutes to get the bartender's attention, and when I asked, "Isn't there supposed to be salt on the rim?" She rudely informed me, "No, only if you ask for it'" I told her that nobody had asked me if I wanted salt on the rim earlier, and it just came that way so I assumed they were all prepared the same way, she literally turned her back on me and slammed the container of rim salt onto the bar. When I said, "wow! Whats that about?" She yelled at me and said I didn't know how to make a request and i needed to change my tone. I was a server for many years, so I know how stressful food service can be, but, if I ever spoke to a customer the way I was spoken to this evening, I would have been dismissed on the spot. i am a standard 25% tipper, and I do not expect preferential treatment, nor do I think the 'customer is always right', but, I do assume Ill be treated with common courtesy when I decide to spend my $$ at a restaurant. I will no longer be doing that at RPublic.

High quality and innovative cocktails, reasonable prices, and a chic/classy ambiance make Ward Eight must-visit! I tried two cocktails when I was at Ward 8: Remember the Main and Vieux Carre. Both were decadent, delicious, and boozy. Triple threats! I loved them both, but the "Remember the Main" was different from drinks I've had before, so that was my favorite. My husband had a local beer. They have beer, wine, and NA options for folks who aren't into cocktails. They also have food which looks scrumptious, ranging from high-end appetizers to full meals. There is plenty of seating and an outdoor space for when it is warmer. It is a fancier places, so prices are higher. But you pay for the higher quality ingredients and innovative recipes. We Then Respectfully Asked The Guests At The Nearby Table Whether They Were Using The Chair, And They Kindly Confirmed That They Were Not. We Moved It To Our Table Without Disrupting Anyone, And The Waitress Did Not Raise Any Concern Afterward. That Made The Initial Refusal Especially Frustrating. This Was A Small, Reasonable Request That Would Have Had No Impact On Other Guests Or The Staff. Instead, I Was Made To Feel Like An Inconvenience. It Was Also A Sunday Evening When The Venue Was Not Crowded At All. After The Initial Interaction, Our Server Never Came Back To Check On Our Table Or Ask Whether We Wanted To Order Additional Drinks. The Bartender Eventually Had To Come Out From Behind The Bar To See If We Needed Anything. For A Group Of Five, That Level Of Attentiveness Was Disappointing. A Venue That Promotes Itself As Welcoming And Accommodating Should Be Prepared To Make Basic Seating Adjustments For Guests With Mobility, Injury, Or Back-Related Concerns And Should Provide Consistent Service Throughout The Visit.
