This is maybe the best bar in the whole world. I walked in a stranger and walked out as a friend.

Non douchbag bar is right! Great mix of good people. Bartender is extremely friendly. Love this place. Just the right mix of cool and dive.

Hungry? They have no kitchen, but a QR code lets you order in from R Public House, or you can fire up Uber Eats and the world is your oyster. The patio is huge and a wonderful place to sit on a warm summer day. The tavern is part of a set of wonderful businesses along this block of Jarvis, including Charmers (coffee), Horseplay (gifts), Taste (wine, liquor and more), R Public House (bar/restaurant) and Jarvis Square Books (bookstore). The business owners here are trying hard to build up a good sense of community and I think they succeed. It's easy to get here on transit, just steps from the Jarvis red line stop, and it's been my favorite neighborhood bar for almost five years now. Thanks to Tony, A. Leigh, Visili, Cory and everyone for making us feel welcome. I hope to see you there.

Really enjoyed our first time at Jarvis Square Tavern…read more We popped in as part of a day of bouncing around to catch the first half of the USWNT and enjoy a pint. It was a lovely time. We were clearly non-regulars, but we certainly weren't made to feel that way. Very welcoming, with friendly service and a little bit of chit chat. Could definitely see coming back up to enjoy another match; they also have plenty of interesting themed nights revolving around food, art/music, and celebrating queer voices (while also being straight friendly). Can't think of a better neighborhood bar if you live in the area, or, if you're like us, looking for a place to hang your hat for an hour or two.

High quality and innovative cocktails, reasonable prices, and a chic/classy ambiance make Ward Eight must-visit! I tried two cocktails when I was at Ward 8: Remember the Main and Vieux Carre. Both were decadent, delicious, and boozy. Triple threats! I loved them both, but the "Remember the Main" was different from drinks I've had before, so that was my favorite. My husband had a local beer. They have beer, wine, and NA options for folks who aren't into cocktails. They also have food which looks scrumptious, ranging from high-end appetizers to full meals. We did not come prepared to eat, so we'll have to come back again to try food in the future! The staff were welcoming and professional. The space was clean and Gatsby-style chic. There is plenty of seating and an outdoor space for when it is warmer. It is a fancier places, so prices are higher. But you pay for the higher quality ingredients and innovative recipes. If you enjoy cocktails and cozy cocktail bars, Ward Eight is definitely the spot for you!

I got the feeling that the staff were putting some effort into their craft. The place was crowded & there was even a live band performing. Love this venue! Wonderful decor, great lighting, super cool space…read more Came for the sunday night latin jazz, which was a great show. Small/medium crowd, easy to find seats. Had the cava brut rosé which was yummy and refreshing. Loved the ambiance and performance. One thing is that the website and menu made it seem like there was no cover on sundays, but it was actually $15. Not the end of the world but would've appreciated if that was more clear upfront, instead of getting charged on the bill at the end. Overall loved the venue and the performance, would totally come back!

The Cosmo martini to start was DEElicious! We were seated at a long table, but there were just 2 of us. Service was efficient and friendly, a little slow. We got food before drinks, but it was fine. Despite the name, there were a couple of instruments hanging up as decorations, like a trumpet and trombone. The bacon wrapped shrimp was good, but usually EACH shrimp has bacon on it, but this was a skewer with bacon wrapped around it. The potatoes on the side were good though. The music was nice and mellow, and the bathrooms were clean and clever, with pictures of French scenes. We saw the owner, but he did not play this time. The 'tip jar' for musicians in the middle of the room, suspended from the ceiling, was cleverly done. We shared a dessert of melt in the mouth chocolate mousse cake or something; it was awesome, very worth it, but the bar bill was quite high. With admission and drinks, I'd go AFTER dinner or a big lunch, and stick with wine if I'm on a budget.

There were a couple of performers playing some very good harmonica and guitar solos and singing some classic Chicago Blues, as some within the audience started dancing while others, myself included, continued watching, listening, and supporting the musicians with tips. The bartenders were very courteous and patient and prepared my drinks very well, including pouring our ginger ale ensuring every drip was gone from the can she was using. I ordered a hibiscus margarita and it was excellent! It had a fruity flavor that wasn't diminished much from the ice that was placed in the drink, and the tajin around the cup gave the drink a bit of a contrasting flavor that worked beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed the drink and even contemplated getting a second one before I decided that I should limit my spending that night. Since I don't think there's another Blues club in Chicago that are open on Mondays, the fact that this place exists is a true blessing for those that want to have some fun watching Blues live performances on Monday nights. It doesn't contain a crazy loud vibe, so I would imagine that it caters to a relatively more chill crowd. I would personally go regardless.
