    Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza
    Heather C.

My husband and I were in Chicago for a convention a couple of weeks ago. While I was getting ready for the day he was watching the news and says to me "we need to try this place". As y'all know from my other reviews he is a pizza perfectionist :) On the morning spotlight segment was this place called Whiskey Girl Tavern and they were talking how they are known for their hot honey pepperoni pizza and chicken tenders (which sell out). We didn't get to go to it that day and the next day we kept debating between that one and Robert's pizza which had been recommended. Well he couldn't get the image of their pizza out of his mind, so we hopped in a Uber and took the 25min ride to check it out. We sat at the best seat in the house ... the corner bar where we had the pleasure of meeting and talking to the best bar manager, Phil!! I ordered the Spill That Spicy T Margarita made with their homemade pineapple, jalapeño mix. It was the perfect balance.. of heat, sweetness (I don't do sweet) perfect touch of smoke from the mezcal and finished with a tahini rim ... omg I can't stop thinking about it!!!! To start we ordered the fried pickles which were the perfect size and lightly breaded .. delicious . Now the main event .. the Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza. Let's talk about the crust which in our opinion will make or break a pizza. We love thin crust with a nice char , not burnt which is a fine line. We needed to be in that small 2 person kitchen at the end of the bar to see how on God's green earth they have perfected this pizza crust!! And who doesn't love cupped pepperonis? I personally feel these should be on every pepperoni pizza instead of those big greasy ones. I just can't say enough about how delicious this was!!! While talking to Phil my husband tells him how we heard about it and that we took the drive to check them out. Phil tells us we have to meet and tell the owners. We met Heather and Christina who were beyond thrilled and sweet to have us there. It's a small world bcs while talking with them we find out that during Covid they didn't want to be locked down in the cold and bought a place 30/40 minutes from us !! They opened the tavern about 2 years ago and just recently purchased the old pool hall next door. They showed us around and it was so cool with an old school vibe with some brown leather couches, pool table and a nice size bar that had just opened that day. If have read this far , THANK YOU! And when in Chicago please go check them out you will not be disappointed I promise!! I am sooo glad and sad that we found this place and believe everything happens for a reason. Glad bcs it was (no joke) the best pizza I have had in a long time and sad bcs I can't stop thinking about it now that I am back home in Tampa!! lol Until next time! Salute

What an absolute adorable place! This use to be a billiard/pool place and it has been converted to a lovely bar. The get an extra star because they have sparkling rose and those crazy good chicken tenders. Those two things alone will get me in back there. Can't speak on the cocktails myself, but The Queen got Expresso martinis and had several. What I can speak on was the food. Menu was very limited, with pizza, fries and chicken tenders, but that was plenty. I am not a fan of pepperoni and I was looking over the pizzas, that was the one The Doctor and Queen wanted, so we got it. I have to say, pepperoni is never an option for me to order any other time, but man this one was so good! Made in a wood burning oven, the crust was just just thin enough to be tasty and hold the ingredients, but not too thin to fall apart. We also got fries, which were more like pomme frites...very tasty. But the star of the show was those GD chicken tender! Juicy, tender, seasoned and battered in what appeared to be a tempura batter. Those were so good that we got a second order. There was a selection of dipping sauces, from Sriracha mayo to Blue cheese, but we got the sweet chili one which was great. Nice flavor without being too spicy. Staff was very nice and fun to talk to. The bartender on staff, Phil, was funny and nice to hang with. Also got to chat with the owner, Heather. She was very receptive and talked about the plans for the place. There is a second part of the bar, a much larger room with a stage for live entertainment as a few tables (not sure if they are pool or billiard). It is a woman/lesbian owned bar, and that is cool. But even if it wasn't, I would still add this place on my rotation of bars to go to. Welcome to the neighborhood. Just need those chicken tenders to stay on the menu and let's get some sausage on that pizza!

We stopped in Saturday evening after dinner for some post-meal drinks and had an all around great time at Whiskey Girl. Bc we had just eaten we did not try the food, but the cocktails were excellent! Service is a tad slow, but that is to be expected with any business that just opened, and the staff was SUPER friendly. They plan to expand to the other half of the space, and I look forward to checking it out and coming to play some pool and watch sporting events on TV (and trying the food next time)!

WELCOME TO EDGEWATER!!! In an area in sore need of coolness, here comes WHISKEY GIRL knocking it out of the box on the first night! Rolled up early, anticipating this place hopping - anxiously awaiting this opening! Billed as an "upscale sports bar". I'm going out on a limb and billing it a Sports Bar For The Rest of Us! Those of us who enjoy watching a few types of sportsball games, but do not like the testosterone-poisoned, backwards baseball cap, BLARING TVs vibe of many sports bars. The drinks menu was created by Meredith B! Formerly of Marys Attic, the "swim up bar" at Ombra and Vol. 39! She's back for occasional guest appearances behind the bar! This means incredible drinks! The drinks: I started with a Daiquiri - elegantly garnished with a orchid! Beauty! The daiquiri was delicious, and served in a traditional daiquiri glass. I felt very literary. And slightly tipsy. My companion had a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned both incredibly delicious and beautifully made. Cocktail prices were well in line with norms in this area, but then they are little pieces of art. That you can drink! I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the really tasty ZERO PROOF cocktail I had here - made with BARE Gin It had the appeal and taste of a booze-based cocktail, minus the booze! No more clutching an inelegant plastic cup of club soda for those who'd rather not imbibe! They currently have a limited menu, soon to expand. I'll be back for that! Everything we saw rolling out of the kitchen looked really great. Great crowd, great space, great drinks, women-centric, looks like a success to me! Plans for expansion abound, pool tables may appear. A stage! Dog friendly area! I will be very happy to watch this place grow and thrive, and will visit often. For the DAIQUIRIS and hoping for an encounter with WHISKEY, the namesake puppy!

Visited during happy hour, great deals on appetizers. Love the whiskey flights! Atmosphere was nice... enjoyed billiards; the staff were friendly and attentive.

Having fun with our sister from Florida in the orange blouse
    Gladis I.

I took my sister in law visiting from Orlando and her partner visiting from Grand Rapids to this bar on a Saturday night because they wanted to hang out at a Chicago women bar. What a disappointment it was there was no contact from any of the employees at the bar. The only one that greeted us was the young man carding us at the door. We walked in and went to the new area in the back. My wife went to order drinks at the bar, and the bar tender told her it was closed to go to the bar in the front. She got us drinks and a very nice young man brought the drinks to our table. put, there was no music, so my sister in law asked about it, and he said there's a jukebox in front. My wife and Sue played pool as we sat and talked it was so dead in there that we quickly got bored and left. I'm sorry I love to support my lgbtq businesses, but I won't be returning here anytime soon. I've heard really great reviews about this sports bar, but this was not a good experience at all, and I was embarrassed for taking my sister in law here with her new partner.

Great new place in the hood! I loved my old fashioned. The chicken fingers and cauliflower were so tasty and fresh. I love that the breading isn't heavy at all

The ambiance is chic, warm, and welcoming. It is also a spacious building with a bit more seating than Little Bad Wolf, so that is nice. We went from a 1.5 hour wait at Little Bad Wolf to almost an immediate seating at the Good Wolf's bar. You can't beat that! The bartender/waiter, Zach, was great! He took good care of us, making us feel welcomed and answering any questions we had as first timers! I got the charred boulevardier cocktail and my spouse got a local IPA beer on tap. We both loved our beverages and were very happy! To eat, we started with the brown butter broccolini side. It was so delicious, decadent, and flavorful. We will definitely get this again! For entrees, I got the duck gnocchi and it was divine. Perfectly filling, delightfully flavorful, and high quality! My spouse got the fish and chips and loved it! I tried a bite and loved how crisp the fish was! And the giardiniera aioli was scrumptious! Prices were reasonable for such a high quality meals. And the space was clean and welcoming. We loved it! It's not flashy, it is less busy, and if you don't know... sneeze and you'll miss it. The vibe is dark and moody, with notes of brown and dark blue. The art also fits the overall atmosphere well. I question, however, the large TV screen that seemingly only shows their name. It's not intrusive, just a bit weird. However, it was so dark that seeing the menu was more challenging than it needed to be. I can light it up with my phone, though I do (and did) so at the risk of being 'that guy'. Top-down lighting folks, I see the lamps up there, too! I ordered: - Oysters (4 as-is, 4 with mignonette on the side) - Duck Gnocchi - Sticky Toffee Pudding The oysters were medium-sized and excellent quality! They were delightfully briny and without a hint of cartilage or sand. The first order came with mignonette, and while enjoyable, being a bit of a purist, I put on a second order with mignonette on the side. Sure enough, I found myself adding it of my own accord. All the more evidence the kitchen knows what it's doing! Further proof? The Duck Gnocchi - the gnocchi themselves were soft and pillowy, more so than I've experienced up to this point. The duck in the dish was tender and soft as can be. The veggies (mirepoix) were sliced and cooked perfectly, adding texture, freshness and bulk (fiber?) without overpowering anything. To top it all off, breadcrumbs for a little crunch, and a mild sauce that tied everything together in perfect harmony. For the most important course, dessert, we have the Sticky Toffee pudding. A well cooked, well sauced helping of pudding, topped with a large scoop of ice cream that slowly melted, transforming the flavor as you go. For drinks, I ordered the Charred Boulevardier and the Burnout. The Boulevardier was rich, sweet and savory, in contrast the Burnout was brighter and fresher, and still boozy. While neither drink was a smack to the face with alcohol, after getting up, I could feel the effects. In terms of their service, it was polite and attentive, and all items came out fast! The prices are okay, though if you love oysters, keep in mind they will set you back $4/each! Final verdict: There is nothing at The Good Wolf that I wouldn't happily order again. It is hard to choose a standout when everything was of a high caliber. I look forward to working my way through their menu, and continuing to feed the good wolf (props is you know the story of the Two Wolves).

The entrance to the bar is located to the left of Lonesome Rose, which gives it a hideaway feel. The décor is lovely and the vibe is cozy and chill. I kind of felt like I was in a Western bar with the big bull head starting down at me. I would say that for parties of 2 to 4, this is a good joint to hang out in, but any larger groups, I did not see a space to accommodate more than 4 people. The night we were there, they had a cool 80s playlist going and that was nice to sit and chair dance while drinking my cava. The Doctor liked the fact that the beer was really cold. And I loved that they had sparkling wine. There is a small section on the menu for food: chips/salsa, Chile con queso, guacamole, Heartbreaker Burger (Chorizo Smash Patty, Grilled Onion, Cilantro, Chile Con Queso, Pickled Jalapeno, Shredded Lettuce, Jalapeno Ranch, Sesame Seed Bun) and Truck Stop Nachos. I got the Truck Stop Nachos (Black Beans, Queso, Pickled Red Onions, Pickled Peppers, Tomato, Crema). You have the option to add Picadillo Beef, Chorizo, or Carne Asada as protein. But you also have the option to have it vegan. I went with steak. Overall this was a nice snack but would have liked a little more steak added to it. I am not sure if you can order from the menu of Lonesome Rose, but the next time we go, I will ask about that. And I have to remember not to call Lonesome Rose, Lonesome Dove (the novel and mini-series). The selection of cocktails is decent, and it is nice that they have non-alcoholic beverages as well. For those that like hard seltzers, they have those as well as a "Toke Cosmic Berry", which is a THC seltzer. Service was nice, the bartender was attentive and friendly. We will definitely be adding this to our rotation of happy hour places.

My advice is to talk to your bartender and find something you will enjoy most. To help not drink on an empty stomach, I ordered the Crispy Shrimp Tacos. As far as bar (gastropub?) food, these were extremely respectable. The shrimp was cooked very well, and the use of greens and onions helped offer a balance and freshness. As a note, the space inside is small and intimate, and I've no complaints about the service.
