OverPriced, Poor Diagnosis and Over medicated I am writing to express my serious concern and disappointment regarding our recent visit with our pet. We have been fortunate that our pet has generally been healthy. We brought him to Lighthouse after noticing that he had fleas and had vomited multiple times on Saturday. However, he had not vomited again after Saturday, and we specifically communicated this information when we brought him in at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Despite this, Dr. Dhami administered an injection for acute vomiting and prescribed vomiting medication. Why was it necessary when our pet had not vomited for approximately two days and we had specifically made the veterinary team aware of this. Ridiculous Rather than prescribing Simparica TR, we were given a more expensive alternative. What is particularly troubling is that the individual tablets cost less than purchasing the package. It clearly reflects their money making attitude. Most importantly, we were presented with a bill exceeding $500 without a thorough examination and investigation had been completed. There were no conclusive test results available at the time.. This has left us questioning whether all of the services and medications provided were medically necessary. We were also very disappointed that no one contacted us after the test results became available. As pet owners, we expect to be informed about the results of tests performed on our pet, particularly when we have incurred significant expenses Disgusted - And when we called the office, no apologies, just excuses! DO NOT BELIEVE their GOOGLE REVIEWS. Relieved to see on Yelp, they only have 3 stars because that's more like it! They actually only deserve 0.5 star. They only have 4.5 stars on Google because the clinic manager has been unethical and unfairly asking her friends to post reviews after her grave mistake. Also Dr. Pina the owner and vet who sold his clinic to private equity is quite a mean, stern, uppity man; he pressed harshly on my little dog's throat to prove his point, causing my dog to go in a coughing fit, and Dr Pina just said "see?" // This is a corporate vet that has been bought out by a private equity firm from Florida. // Unbelievably unprofessional Clinic Manager Lori R. She has been deleting all my reviews and have been asking her personal friends to write FAKE google reviews (which is a conflict of interest). Please, for the sake and safety of your own furbabies, PLEASE avoid this clinic at cost. They will name-call you, gaslight you, and thwart you into a swirl of terrible drama, even after you've spent over $1K at their clinic. I am deeply hurt, shocked, and disappointed by the level of unprofessionalism in which this clinic operates. Today, I received many unprofessional and angry emails from Lighthouse over a public review (2 Instagram stories that didn't even mention them), where I did not even throw anyone or even mention the clinic's name under the bus. My dogs are on social media, so I just gave their concern fans an update *without mentioning the clinic name*, but now I will forever spread the news that this is an unprofessional vet. Last time I checked, a business cannot bully you over something you post on your personal social media, especially when no names had been mentioned. This is beyond unprofessional. On top of that, I had been a client for years, spent over $1K on a surgery for my dog, and the surgery gave him a nasty skin infection. Most people would be upset if they had spent $1K only for their pet to end up with a very nasty skin infection in their supposedly sterile environment. (Makes me question how clean and sanitary and safe their clinic is.) Even though the nasty infection happened during / after the surgery, I wasn't even angry at them. I just wanted to get my dog healthy, and I worked with understanding and patience with the vet to get my dog's skin infection cured. When the vet asked me to swing by for a quick re-check exam, I had assumed it was a free or reduced-cost exam because she said "quick" and only checked his one area. It was $48 for a 30 minute exam. I had already spent $1K with them, so I was upset at this fee. When I tried to work it through with them *calmly*, the clinic manager escalated the issue by name-calling me and sending me angry emails when I had given them nothing but 4-5 stars reviews. They are NOT the neighborhood friendly vet they claim to be! I'm changing those reviews to 1 star now. Wish I could give them NEGATIVE 10 stars! After this experience, the clinic manager blocked me from everywhere and returned all my files and didn't allow me to come back. So much for a "friendly" neighborhood vet. Also, they are part of a vet private equity firm and have been bought out since the pandemic. They are not privately owned. They are a CORPORATE VET and the clinic manager is from Corporate (Florida). read more

Took me cat there because of GI issues (diarrhea/vomiting) and vet suggested it could be a number of things and recommended bloodwork/stool to rule out stuff. I was a little taken back when this estimate came to $671 (this was not including any of the meds that were also recommended- the anti-nausea, antibiotic). Tech said it's because they have to send their bloodwork to an outside facility to get tested. So just my thoughts- it seems it would be more cost effective to find a vet that can run their own results in-house. Also, fyi, if they give you a prescription to get filled, despite what you're told- you cannot get it filled at your local CVS, Kroger pharmacy etc. These pharmacies do not fill animal prescriptions. They had me running all around town trying to find a pharmacy to fill them. Staff seems friendly and it was easy to get an appointment, so giving them 3 stars. read more

I switched to Dr. Pina in 2020 cuz it's closer, has lots of high ratings, and had a pretty organized covid operation. Dr. Pina is good but I can't say the same for all his support staff. I normally only go in for annual check up and flea preventative which means I only use their services twice a year. Kinda hard to screw up customer service when you only go twice a year right? And I'm normally a very forgiving person. So where did they go wrong? Let me count the ways. 1) charge me for nail clippings that weren't done. 2) constantly get my email address wrong 3) lecturing me like a child for refilling my pets' flea preventative so close to the weekend. Ever been lectured like a kid before for making a follow up call to check if medication is ready? The guy took out his bad day on me and now I'm 4 days with no meds. So much for 24 hours min notice. It's only 3 things. Could be worse, but to be lectured like a child is disrespectful even to a child. Most of his staff is good. Dr is good. The one male employee who treated me like I was his bad kid destroyed it for me. Update- was told the guy giving me a hard time may be leaving today. read more

The vet was honest and did not perform unnecessary exams so that he could charge more money. He diagnosed my dog with an ACL injury and prescribed him an anti-inflammatory and pain meds. This will be the vet clinic I will take my animals to from now on! read more

I lost my most beloved dog today. Pets become our family, and I just wanted to say that Dr. Pina at Lighthouse Vet is the most amazing vet. He cared for and looked after my baby boy for many years. When we put him down this morning he was wrapped in the blanket my grandmother knitted he is the best vet in Sugar Land. After seeing all of the 5 star reviews we decided to contact Lighthouse to have our pet examined (little guy was not doing well). Saw Dr. Pina and decided to do a full blood exam to determine the issues. Others have indicated that Lighthouse is reasonable on charges, but that really seems to be exaggerated. The CBC was $45, the Chem 17 Blood Profile was $82 and the electrolyte was $20 for a total of $147.00 and this seems a little steep. Oh well - lets forget the pricing issue and discuss our total experience. Dr. Pina, after looking at the blood work results noticed several areas that needed attention. Our pets blood sugar was very low and his red blood cell count was also well below normal. As refusal of food was one of the issues it was discussed as to how this might be improved. Steroids seemed to be indicated, and an injection was given along with a Rx (tablets) to give at home. The desired result was increased appetite and an improvement might be the result. The blood sugar issue was to be treated by giving out pet 1 tablespoon of corn syrup four times a day. This did not work. No improvement in appetite and impossible to determine if a change in blood glucose was the result of using corn syrup in food. To make a long story a little shorter our pet required euthanasia two days later. This is where our experience started to deteriorate. While Dr. Pina was caring and understanding his staff was anything but. They showed no caring attitude with regards to what both we and our pet were experiencing. The final straw was when the drugs were administered to end life and a young lady came in with a portable card reader wanting payment. I was holding our pet and saying goodbye and my wife was behind me. She took out a card and made payment while our little guy was still warm. If Dr. Pinas employees have no empathy, they at least need training in how to fake same. They were totally indifferent and apathetic to the pain that we were experiencing. This alone causes me to disagree with all of the 5 star reviews, and might be something for others to consider. read more

I lost my Jack last year and I'm still very traumatized by it. When I called their office to let them know, no one returned my call. I even emailed Dr. Pina but still no acknowledgment. I wanted to think that they cared but I guess not and have since moved to another vet. I wouldn't have even written this review but what's even worse, they're still mailing me reminders that Jack is due for his yearly checkup! Thanks for reminding me of my loss. read more

The doctor Pina is good with his expertise, no complains. However it is so horrible to deal with his office front staffs for anything. Normally we just ask for annual check ups or monthly prescriptions. They always put you on hold and never returns to pick up no matter how long you have been holding. We understand they are busy so asked them to give the prescriptions to other pharmacy, but they refuses to provide. After receiving them I noticed their nails were chipped and split in half. absolutely no consideration in behalf of my cats and the pain they felt. I called them to let them know and they gave me absolutely no answers nor solution. repeatedly I called and no call back. The worst service for a vet clinic located in sugar land. The second their client encounters an issue with their service they will wash their hands clean and not take accountability. I hope that if ur considering going to this clinic that u reconsider otherwise. Beware! Do not take your pet here. I took my dog in for an ulcer on his left eye. Dr Pina said there was no ulcer, gave him steroid eye drops (the exact wrong thing to give a dog with an eye ulcer, the eye could dissolve). Somehow, today, at my regular vet, a week and a half later, there is clearly an ulcer exactly where I said it was. Only worse now bc of his incompetence. I've been a huge fan of Lighthouse for a very long time. I have taken several of my dogs there and the rescue group that I work with used to use them before they quit that. Today I took a 6 pound Chihuahua up for a dental that ran me almost $700.the last time I was up there it was approximately 250 with the blood work. Please be careful going them. My fur baby and I are super happy with the care we got here at Lighthouse Veterinary Clinic! My cat needed an appointment with the vet to get shaved because of some really bad matting (she's a super long-haired and I hasn't taken her to the groomer in a long time bc of COVID - totally my fault). They were able to book me for an appointment within a week (they also have same-day sick visits but you have to call pretty early in the AM to get one of those). When you get to the clinic, you call to check in and then they come out and get your pet. The vet checks them out and then gives you a call to discuss. Dr Krueger was SO nice and patient and wasn't judgmental at all during our call. He answered all my questions and got me set up to bring her in to get shaved under sedation (she wasn't going to tolerate it any other way). The next week I dropped her off in the morning for her procedure and picked her up that evening. He warned me that since this was a medical shaving that it might not look super pretty, but I think they did a really good job. She's not going to be winning any cat shows anytime soon, but she looks a lot happier afterwards. Pricing is also very reasonable, I paid about $50 for the initial check-up and $100 for the shaving. read more

I was introduced to this wonderful place through Almost Home rescue, through whom I was fostering two dogs. I had to take the fosters to Lighthouse, but it only took one visit before I was bringing all of my animals here. The entire staff is so kind and caring. The two techs who take my dogs' vitals each time are so sweet and are the only people on earth who can clip my chihuahua's nails. Dr. Krueger found my older dog's cancer and stayed well after closing helping us book specialist appointments and answering all of our questions. Their prices are so reasonable compared to other clinics, too. I shudder to think at the thousands I spent on exam fees and bloodwork at my previous vet. So glad I found Lighthouse!! read more

I just want to give a shout out to this place.. I have taken two rescue cats there .. one that we couldn't save she was to damaged from whatever happened to her and another Farrel cat they helped me with both of there situations the best. The baby kitten we couldn't save they worked her in the same day .. she couldn't walk was using the bathroom all over herself and the they where totally booked .. but when they saw what was going on and she was left in my front yard .. they took her in..I took her to work with me and they called and said they doctor will take her. When he called me and told me how bad she was I was a mess crying the hole nine Yards.. I said OMG so how do I pay to put her out of her suffering and he said we will call you later don't worry about that today. I was like what ? who does that .. totally unexpected and showed they have true HEART for animals. Today I took my two Shitzus just for shots and check up .. I have never had a vet be so complete in explaining the exam.. bone wise teeth wise weight wise all of it.. totally impressed they take their time don't rush the calls and explain everything that is going on .. ON top of all of this amazing service they honestly have the most reasonable prices I have ever seen .. I rescue, I have 5 dogs of my own I care for and three cats. This is the best place around and trust me when I tell you I trust KNOW one with my babies. I have a personal groomer I have had for years they go to her house..like I am over the to the crazy fur baby mom. I totally trust this entire staff to the way they answer the phone to the way to take my babies to the doctors. This is just over the top in my book .. I don't post much but just had to shout out to this place. My animals are my life and that is also why I rescue when I can and I will always bring my babies here and refer them everyone .. I already have been telling everyone I know with pets to come here... Oh yes one last thing.. On my farrel stray I had to catch him.. because he bites to neuter they told me catch him if you can call us we will work you in if you trap him and they did... they followed through on their word and worked them in their busy schedule. You have to love a vet that takes time to explain things to you and knows a lot. I was highly impressed with the office and the staff. We did not have to wait long and there was not a lot of other animals in the office which is good for my fearful dog. Dr. Pina explained everything to us straight and did really took the time to answer our questions about our dog. We also took her in to help with pain management at her old dog appointment. After years of going to another vet in the area I brought my dog here when she needed an emergency appointment. I can't say enough good things about this clinic! From Dr. Pina and Dr. Krueger to the whole staff they are fantastic. I like the fact that they perform most things in front of the owners and are very loving and comforting to the animals. My pets (2 dogs and 2 cats) used to hate going to the vet but they are so much happier at this clinic. Additionally, the cost here is MUCH more reasonable. Think twice before you take your babies here. They are all about the money. A rescue pet was brought here and they cut her open and pretended like they fixed her. She was super sick after so we took her to another ver with great reviews. They said she was already fixed! They should have known her. She also had to huge lumps on her neck and they said it was acne. The staff was rude and literally handed me my dog (drugged up) and didnt give me any information. Where to begin? I adopted a cat from the Rosenberg shelter on Monday, she was scheduled to be spayed on Wednesday and picked up latet the same day. It is now Saturday and I'm taking her to an Urgent Care Vet clinic for the SECOND time to treat the chemical/electrical burns that she has suffered from, immensely. Her tongue, the roof of her mouth, esophagus, and possibly her stomach are all affected and are causing her agonizing discomfort.Its hard to tell for certain what is wrong without KNOWING what happened to her. i was told nothing from this vet clinic other than they preferred to watch her overnight to monitor her recovery from surgery and anesthesia. even if it didn't happen on your watch, which it sounds like it did..shouldn't you be able to recognize a chemical burn on the face of an animal you're operating on?! she is miserable / suffering and I just want to know what happened to her so i can help her and they told me nothing! I am appalled at the negligence my animal has suffered while being held under their care. read more

Unprofessional and very poor communication. Was there for 3 hours today waiting on my puppies to get their rabies shots and wasn't told until the very end that they were "too young" to have their rabies shot.....they will be 13 weeks this coming up Tuesday but their 'very accurate' age test check said they were 10 weeks old so that's now on their health certificate, which is NOT CORRECT.....Had a vet tech flat out lie to us today. Very unhappy. my family and I, and the organization we work with, will not be returning.
