While I was trying to flip my breaker on, my back was turned and Ty Harris (who doesn't live in my building) came up from behind me and physically assaulted me. He hit me, threw me into a concrete wall, put his hands all over my body ripping at my skin, and chased me up a flight of stairs... I was bleeding from multiple areas. This is a premeditated assault. Violence.. There has been no apology from structure properties, no explanation for his behavior. Why do I have to explain to human adults that unlawful violence is bad?

Saj was in touch with us frequently through the application process, but once our applications were submitted, communication was less consistent. That said, we found out the next day that we were approved! At least, we thought we were. Nobody at Ukiyo had confirmed whether we have pets (we do, and didn't want to double-list them with multiple adults applying), so they had to recalculate the deposit and needed us to provide vaccination records. Once we did so, we paid the deposit and went to bed, feeling like the next day we would pick up keys to our next home. Instead, we found out that the property owner doesn't allow pets, and that our entire application process was wasted. Not only are we not moving into what we thought would be our home for the next decade, but also we're having to find another option and wasted a week of time and energy. I can't claim I understand property management. That said, either the owner provided incorrect information to Ukiyo (in which case Ukiyo needs to do a better job screening owners since they "don't work with just anyone" according to their site) or Ukiyo didn't ensure that they had the correct information in their listing. Whichever is the case, the entire process has left us with a terrible impression of Ukiyo's business. It's already exhausting enough to navigate bay area housing without this kind of mess.

While we didn't get it we were able to use the same application for another unit in the panhandle within a month. Finally, we found a unit near USF and talked with Jackie and Liz about our interest in it. They prefer email, so it was hard to find someone to call. However, once things got kicked off they were prompt and responsive with email correspondence. The onboarding process was straightforward, and they were clear about the initial deposits, rent, commission and scope of their business. Very positive experience overall with the 3-4 times we toured units, and we love our new apartment!

I contacted B+T today to set-up showings. They gave me the phone number to a leasing agent named Jason. I contacted him to set-up showings. His text message response was not professional at all. "Hi ya sure,.." "Also would you care to get pre-approved in our system beforehand..." Who asks that?! I understand if he doesn't want to waste his time, but that is part of his job -- showing units to potential tenants & providing a warm inviting experience. I let him know that I was planning to do several viewings, not all by B+T. He turned off his read receipts and just ghosted me, stopped responding to my messages. If that is any kind of indication of what kind of company this is, or the type of business they run. I am happy he never got back to me. I'll take my business elsewhere.
