(Review based on the bird department) This place was absolutely FANTASTIC! I'm not a bird owner, just a person who likes to hang out with feathered friends every once in a while. The staff for the bird section was absolutely wonderful and answered all the questions we had. It's very important to consider that THESE ARE LIVING BEINGS. Treat them with respect, handle with care, etc. If you choose to handle the birds, there IS a possibility of you getting bit, clawed, pooped on, etc. and it's NOT anywhere close to zero. I advise being especially careful with the macaws, who bite HARD. They have very strong beaks, muscles, and claws that can easily punch holes in skin and scratch. Even the smaller birds are quite nippy, but aren't as likely to break skin (though they certainly do sometimes). Most of the nipping and biting can be attributed to affection, but is just as likely to cause infection (a fun play on words, but still true!). If you don't know how to handle birds, do not go in expecting to come out a professional, or go in with the expectation of all of the birds immediately loving you. These birds see upwards of hundreds of people a day and likely have no idea what to expect from you. I recommend talking with the employees, who I can't guarantee are all as nice as the people we talked to, but likely know the birds at least a little bit, and can help children and people wanting to interact in a safer way than just involving without caution. read more

I should have listened to the reviews and looked for another store. I have been looking for a parrot to bring into the family for a while. I've done plenty of research online, but this was my first time going to look at birds in person. Seeing this was a family run business, I decided to bring my business here rather than a big box store. Big mistake. Almost everyone working seemed to be stuck up teenagers and young adults. My family was in the store for about 30 min and not a single employee offered any assistance. Not even a simple hello. The bird section was absolute chaos. There's TONS of birds jammed into a small corner of the store which seems to be, by far, their most popular animal. The aisles are cramped and it's hard to hear anything with all the birds chirping away. There were 2 employees feeding/ tending to birds. They were pretty much ignoring everyone. I tried to ask a few questions about different species, yet I felt like an annoyance to them.. then I simply got told, if you're new to birds, just get a cockatiel. The guy wouldn't really give any information on any of the other species. I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need in my home before buying a bird, but it seems like they'd rather you just pay $$ now and quit bothering them. There's a bunch of signs up saying NO PICTURES everywhere. It felt like a prison with the wide variety of threatening signs all over the place. I did notice the cages seemed very over priced. An A&E cage I saw on Chewy for $300 was marked up to like $700 in there. The cockatiels were a couple hundred dollars more than Pet Smart. I wanted to avoid going to somewhere like Pet Smart or Petco to get a pet bird, but after this experience, I'll just take my business there. At least they have employees that seem like they care about helping customers. It's a shame to see a local business that can't provide better service than corporate big box stores. If it wasn't for your exorbitant prices, I suspect you'd be out of business by now. read more

So I used to come here quite often until I noticed a trend in who couldn't and could actually handle the small animals. So I scaled my patronage down a bit. Fast forward to today. My husband told me about some smaller bunnies he'd seen in there a few weeks ago. As I own a few New Zealand Bucks. Personally my trip in today was for a live feeder rat for my 6 year old ball python. Needless to say I saw two little bunnies behind a little girl who was sitting on a bench who actually wasnt even aware they were behind her because I asked were they hers and she said no. So then I asked the young lady at the counter could the bunnies be held or pet and she said yes. Soon as I go to pick up a bunny another lady who 1. Fails to even identify whom she is states Oh no you cant hold it, but you can pet it. So let me get this straight as a potential customer I cant hold an animal I'm potentially interested in?? So how many people go to buy a car and just purchase it right off the lot, no test drive? I'll wait... My point is every time I come into Pet Paradise I'm being told oh you can pet the bunnies or the ferrets but you cant hold them. Mind you I've seen "others," allowed to do just that. I've owned every animal mentioned previously in my 40+ years but it appears only certain people have the privilege here to actually interact with potential furbabies. Whelp they say word of mouth is the best form of marketing so figured I'd put the word out because it's a reoccurring theme I'm quite tired of and figured I'd let folks know about the fickle behavior of oh peep this the supposed manager who "Can Do what she wants," as I was told by the young lady behind the counter. Now last I checked a manager wasnt the owner but hey what do I know? I just need to find a better pet store with similar or BETTER options closer to me in Suffolk. Nobody buys cars without test driving, nobody adopts a dog without interacting, so why am I limited to petting a rabbit only and not holding it, but told oh you can hold it if your intentions is to buy one by the young lady behind the counter.. whew I could say so much but trust me I dont think I have to. read more

Customer service was terrible! We drove a hour just to get a feeder for our King corn, and they acted like we were aliens in the store! We couldn't touch anything. When we made it to the bird section, I was literally reaching for the sanitizer and the man demanded we put some on, and got mad at me for replying "I'm perfectly capable of reading " I'm new to the area ,and don't know if we will be returning to spend money in an establishment that acts as if they don't want you there. While the store itself is cool (bring the kids to pet the bunnies or get acquainted with the birds), I have two issues with this location. 1.) The staff, while knowledgeable, are not friendly and almost make it seem as though you're bothering them by being there. Very off-putting. But 2.) most seriously, their Tap-to-Pay was not working, so I had to use a debit card that I very rarely use. Within a few minutes, I began seeing charges I didn't make from various different vendors. I have dealt with something similar at an unrelated location, and it was due to the chip in my debit card being "skimmed." As I don't regularly use this debit card, and as the charges occurred not long after leaving this location, it is safe for me to assume my card was skimmed here - again, that is just an assumption, but all the evidence points in that direction. So now I have to wait for a new debit card, because I had to feed my animals and chose this location. read more

I went with a friend to check on a bird he had purchased last week. I assumed this place was a small pet shop but am very quite surprised. Many types of birds on display and was able handle most of them. A bit daunting because they seem to bite BUT it was a soft peck. The ferrets were also such adorable creatures. The back has lizards and a room dedicated to exotic aquatic fish and anemone. They have arrays of bird feeds, toys, aquarium decor, lizard cage, tanks, etc. the aisles were a bit narrow but manueverable. This place has some great exotic pets, unfortunately no dogs or cats supplies. Overall, had a great experience with the birds and would definitely recommend this place. read more

Best place to get your pets or to even come a pet one. They have such a great variety. This little guy is a ferret and I want to grab it so bad. Reminds me of one I had many years ago. Their Avery department is amazing. So many birds lose and winged and way to adorable. I have to retain myself from buying more birds when I go to get some food for my lovelies. I have 2 cocktails, Lucy and Ricky. When they have babies I would bring them here to find a new home. The employees are great. Just one of my favorite place to come. read more

This store has fair prices and specializes in birds, reptiles, fish and some small mammals on occasion. You won't find anything for cats/dogs here! The staff are generally REALLY knowledgeable. The store itself could use an overhaul, and about 2x more space than they currently have, but the animals' needs are met and they have good variety. We have a breeding pair of leopard geckos, fish and a quaker parrot - all purchased here. ADDED BONUS: They will trim your birds nails/wings for life, free of charge, which is great. From what I know, they will also buy back pets/fish/accessories like tanks or cages, in certain cases (relocating, etc.). My favorite thing about this store is that the birds are not all stuck in cages, so the experience (if it's not too crowded) can be hands-on. read more

Oh man, this is a free zoo! Pet Paradise is nothing like I imagined. The minute you walk in, there's animals everywhere. At one point I couldn't tell if there were empty cages, or if they had animals in them. I saw them taking animals from the cages and allowing the customers to interact with them. There were tons of reptiles, fish, and birds. Not too many guinea pigs or hamster type animals. There were a bunch of birds though. This store isn't that big, they jam a bunch of stuff in it. One of the employees gave my kids the low down on owning and caring for turtles. We enjoyed our day here, but it was obviously a little funky and crowded. However my kids did enjoy looking at the animals. read more

Everyone always tries to bring this place down but I honestly love it. I go here every Saturday to see the birds and reptiles and even though I can't leave with one yet, the moment I can you can best believe it will be from here. I've had the pleasure of just hanging and talking with the staff and some of these people really love spending time and loving on these animals. Of course the place is a little messy and smelly but what do you expect from a pet store? Until I have a reason to give them a lower score I have to give them 4 stars for the nice staff, the knowledge some of them have and of course their care for the animals that I've personally seen. read more

I was super weary about adopting a rabbit from a pet store, in the past all my pet store rabbits have been aggressive. However I adopted one of the babies from here and he is soo friendly and so smart! When you adopt a rabbit from pet paradise they offer free nail trims which is so convenient! Loved this! Wonderful selections of birds, reptiles, fish, and some different small animals. The bird section had both open spaces where you could hold some of the birds, they also had some of the small ones in cages. All of the birds were beautiful - ESPECIALLY the larger birds! Their reptile section had SO many different kinds of creatures, from chameleons to snakes to bearded dragons. They have a Degu in the store, which was a super quirky addition to the shop. The fish area also had a very varied range of species, which was very enjoyable to look around at. Finally, their small animal section that is the first thing you see upon walking in was cute. I'm not sure if they have a normal/regular selection all of the time, but the types of animals they have at the moment was nice. As far as the staff, the employees we interacted with in the fish area was very enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed there job. The reptile staff was helpful and answered all of our questions about the animals, and for any they weren't sure of they went out of their way to check with another staff member. We did not end up purchasing anything, but the range and amount of supplies they carry seemed very extensive and all of the animals were on par with typical pricing. The only 'warning' I'd offer to anyone visiting for the first time is the noise from the birds - that area is very loud, which can't really be helped. All in all, a very nice shop! read more

UNSAT Came by and called everyday for over a month about a bunny I was trying to buy for my wife's birthday. Understandably, the bunny was too young at first and could not be sold. I called on a Saturday 28 March inquiring about the bunny and it was still not available to be sold. On my wife's birthday 29 March, the bunny was sold to an employee the night before. Thanks so much for leading me and my wife on for a month. Why not just lock the doors and make this place an employee only pet shop! read more

It's pretty much a free zoo Im not going back ever Negative stars 100% do not go Unless you want to look at the bunnies reptiles ferrets and reptiles like a free zoo caution when you purchase birds here. I guess you have to purchase baby birds as they hatch and work with them. I don't know what the problem is. I figured if we got two from the same cage they would be civil. Purchased 2 hand fed baby parakeets from the same cage at the same time. We have two of everything in a large cage. They are hurting each other. The first day they were picking at each other and I figured maybe they just needed time and space so I left them in their cage and gave them space. It's currently day two of them being home and it's not getting any better and they are still fighting over everything And it's getting worse. We called and asked if we could exchange them and the manager said no. What is the point of warranty or receipt if we can't exchange them with in the "10 Days" given on receipt. I didn't ask for money back. I was just hoping to get a bird that doesn't act like a evil brat, feel free to replace with curse words because jeez one is possessed or something Very upset !!! Please use caution!!! Also they are very expensive and over priced! found an amazing cage on "AMZ" twice the size with feeders and toys for the same price!! Don't worry people we are getting two cages now ! if Exchanges weren't allowed why wasn't it on the receipt. The teenagers working were generally nice and one in particular was very patient and accommodating helping me and a few others see their breeder ball pythons which they have a great selection of. Not much else good to say, however. Has the same sort of pet shop smell as does Simply Pets on military highway (if you know, you know). Pretty cramped and crowded throughout the store. VERY disappointing reptile section in that I saw few cages that were both the right size for the animals they are housing. Most reptile cages were incredibly bare and I was especially disappointed by the large bearded dragon whose enclosure had nothing but a fallen hammock and maybe a food bowl, nothing else. Very disappointed in the customer service here. The men who work here are very professional but some of the women are very rude. Multiple times I have gone in and left thrown off by the way some of the female employees act. The first couple of time I tried to give them the benefit of doubt that they were just having a bad day or maybe had just dealt with a rude customer. I always try to be very nice to people who have to work with the public as I have been in their shoes. There is another pet store closer to where I live so I will be going there for now. It is not a nice feeling going to a store and having the employees make it feel like having to talk to a customer is not worth their time. Especially when I go out of my way to be nice/ show gratitude even when all I ever get is a bad attitude. read more

After not having much luck elsewhere in adopting a rabbit, my fiancé & I took my coworkers advice to buy one from Pet Paradise. He had bought his lop eared bunny around Easter & said she was a healthy rabbit. The rabbits are right up front when you walk in & with permission from the young woman working my fiancé scooped up our little guy. She was very informative on answering all of our questions, recommending the accessories that he would need, & seemed to genuinely care for the animals she is working with. I'm know all rabbits are different, but our 8 week old Dutch bunny was very comfortable being handled by us & used his litter box without any accidents in the first week. He received a healthy check up at his vet appt & has been a wonderful addition to our lives. I would definitely buy another pet from Pet Paradise & trust the advise from the staff on what's best for our little dude. read more

Where do I began so my husband and I have a 6 year old ball python that I unfortunately have to feed live. Which can present danger into itself so finding a clean friendly place is important to us. I've always gone to simply pets which is wonderful and clean but I wanted to try something closer to home. Big mistake!! Pet paradise more like pet hell seriously when you first walk in you hit with the smell of feces and it is obviously dirty, then you have to go to the back of the store where there was a line no prob. Yet, the employee was talking about how to kill a rat for a customer who doesn't want to feed live, but wants a fresh one wtf!??? " Just grab it by its tail and whack it against something?!! Then the other lady was showing someone crickets they had and when she was done instead of putting them back she just shakes them off her hand onto the floor??!!? Speaking of which there where dead crickets everywhere on the floor never have I ever seen so many people just stepping on them. I get the circle of life bullshit but it was just borderline animal abuse. I cried when I left and contemplating bringing the rat I bought back if I didn't want to go back in there. 10/10 never again , read more

This place are experts in birds. I bought my Sun Conure here 22 years ago as a youngster. Now that he is elderly it's be difficult keeping weight on him. I never hesitate to consult these professionals even over my vet for advice! Everything they have offered has improved his overall health and weight and fortunately we have an elderly healthy old loving Conure. read more
