Due to their unique hours, Lil Thai House is hard to visit because they are only open at lunch time on weekdays. I went once in 2021 and have been itching to go back for almost 4 years. After finally making the time, I gave them a second try. Longview is a small town and places like Lil Thai House are what make it so much better. The owners are a sweet couple that make some delicious Thai food. It's all cooked fresh to order, which makes it not the place to go if you're in a pinch for time. I also recommend getting here closer to 11 if you want to get seats in the restaurant. I think there are about 10 tables available that fill up quick. My partner and I ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Green Chicken Curry and Pork Egg Rolls. Starting with the egg rolls - they were very fresh and hot. The glass noodles inside were delicious and overall they were super meaty. The pad Thai and curry were tasty. Both had great levels of spice that weren't overbearing and added to the flavor profile. Thai food, fresh and cooked to order. The dining room is small, so you may need to order 'to go' or wait for a table, but it's worth it. It's a true family-run place with excellent food. First time trying Thai House! We were in Gilmer and I had a craving for Thai food, so I went to yelp for Thai food! I called in my order and it was ready by the time I picked up my take out. We had shrimp pad thai, shrimp tom yum, green curry with chicken, and beef pad thai. I was very impressed that their spices were en pointe! It's a charming and smaller restaurant with counter order Thai food that is delivered to your table. The owners were the ones who prepared and served my mom and I, and they were very kind, helpful, and caring about the quality of food and delivery of service. We shared a delicious Tom Kah Gai soup, Panang Curry, and Pad Thai. We were shocked with how large the portions were, and with how much rice they gave us for the curry (an appropriate amount in contrast to some of the stingy places I've gone that give you a tiny amount and up charge you for more.) It was definitely more that the two of us could handle in one sitting, but we were so happy to take back the rest to eat later. Very serious Thai food. Don't let the fact that this restaurant is in a small East Texas town lull you into thinking this is small town quality ethnic food. This restaurant will compete with the best Thai places in Dallas, bar none. This may be the best Thai restaurant in Texas! Thai owners preside in the small open kitchen and prepare each dish only after it is ordered. If you want a chance to a disk, just ask. The only down side is that some nights the wait is substantial because so many people want to eat here. But two nights ago, we were one of three couples, so it is not invariably crowded. Lil Thai House is a true gem tucked away in historic downtown Longview. I'm giving it 4 stars because Yelp doesn't allow for 1/2 stars - otherwise this would be a 4.5 star place. I can't in good faith give it 5-stars because of some of the quirkiness of the place, which I'll talk about in a moment. This truly is a hole-in-the-wall place. There are very few tables inside, and that's perfectly fine with the owners who are happy to tell you that they work enough to get by and serve as many as they can serve and no more. It is what it is. The food is excellent. Very fresh - you can see straight into the kitchen from the order/dining area and will be astounded by the piles of fresh veg and herbs sitting on the counter. Everything is cooked to order and you very much feel like you're eating at a friend's house rather than a restaurant. To that end, don't be surprised if your table of 4 receives each person's dish about 5 minutes apart rather than at the same time. Since we all ordered to share, that worked fine for us. We just added the next dish to the dining rotation as it came out. What we ordered: For starters we ordered chicken egg rolls and spicy beef egg rolls. Different sauces were served with each, perfectly complimenting the fillings For mains: Drunken noodles with chicken (delish and spicy), pad Thai with pork, gai pad khing (ginger chicken with noodles) and green curry stir fry with chicken. All were amazing and had very different flavor profiles. Vegan options are available, though we didn't go that route for dinner. Also, this was honestly too much food for our group of 4, but it was no problem to we pack the leftovers up for the trip back to our weekend getaway lodging. Do you like spring rolls? Get there early, because they disappear fast. Look for them in the tiny refrigerator at the counter. You can't go wrong with any flavor, but I'm partial to the shrimp, which are plump and cooked perfectly, alongside crispy cucumber, matchstick carrots and other vegetables and herbs. The sweet dipping sauce is a perfect compliment to this cold rice paper-wrapped delicacy.
