I knew the moment I walked in, I would enjoy this place immensely. The atmosphere lends itself to tourists, with the friendly, small town staff, the signed money in various denominations and origins stapled to the wall, and the simple look and feel of the place, I ordered an iced tea to start, and the glass was absolutely huge! I definitely did not leave thirsty. After careful consideration, I chose the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with some curly fries. The cheesesteak sandwich was fantastic, with the right blend of peppers, onions and provolone. The toasted bun was crispy, yet still soft, and the meat was juicy and warm. The menu was quite extensive, and they have a weekday buffet I'd be willing to return and try. Also, I signed a 2 dollar bill I had been carrying around in my wallet and added it to the wall. The main reason this place exists here in Jackson is the alcohol. Without it, I don't think these folks would stay in business very long. Want some booze? Come on in. Want some decent food? Go somewhere else. The service was okay. Not good, not bad... indifferent. My wife's meal was awful in her words. Mine wasn't bad but you gotta please both of us to want to even risk it again. Although, the atmosphere was friendly and the restaurant was clean, the food was not up to par. I had a gumbo as a starter that was a bit tasteless. It needed fresher ingredients and less rice. Then i had a loaded baked potato that was hard and the shrimp seem to be dehydrated shrimp. So close to the water, I expected fresher food. I met a co-worker here while traveling through here today. The restaurant itself was clean and well decorated. I really had high hopes walking in. My coworker had been here previously and recommended the buffet. It was not the best choice. While the food was hot, it was just bland. The ribs were slathered in sauce, which you don't do unless you don't cook them correctly. The vegetables were canned in my opinion. The service was very good, making it worth coming back for sure. I will however try ordering off the menu next time, I have a suspicion it'll be better. Tried it again, food was still extremely underwhelming and the service was worse. Don't come hungry ready to eat in a reasonable time. I had ordered the Hamburger Steak with Gravy and Sweet Potato Fries. Drinks were not refilled during the wait. For the wait the meal came out cold. I'm guessing it is the only game in town late Monday night. The cooks must have forgot to screw the salt lid on tightly before seasoning the gravy because it taste like straight salt dumped out in it. The Hamburger Steak was dry. Side note: really has a nice bar room and I assume this how they make their money. Pros: They were open. Sweet Tea was to the southern standard. Got a 2 dollar discount for the wait and cold food. But I have eaten here and it was good, too. This building has changed hands a lot. Jacksonians need to support their local restaurants so that they can expand their menus and improve on quality. In Jackson, AL, I was not expecting much in the form of fine dining, so I went to the Downtown Grill with rather low expectations. The place was good, I enjoyed the buffet, which consisted mostly of your typical southern food... fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, etc... and a yummy selection of pie and other desserts. My only real complaint was with the service... the waitress seemed oblivious to all of our needs... she would walk past the table without even looking at us, often times forcing the people at the table to have to get up and take care of things themselves... like getting napkins, pouring more drinks, getting ketchup, etc... The grill was our GO TO spot for drinks and a good time! I think they are under new management and the service is POOR! The last three times I have been there, my food has not been cooked yet when I called in my order 40 minutes prior. Passing thru Jackson and happened to spot this restaurant. Was surprised to find the quality of buffet food. Catfish was perfectly fried crisp on outside and flakey on inside. Baked fish had a great tasted, also seasoned perfect. Fried chicken was very crispy while remaining moist inside. One of our party had the gumbo. Being from south Louisiana I had to have a taste. Reminded me of the gumbo my mother made when at home. Asked server if owners were from Louisiana and she said they were. Come to find out they were from my home town of Crowley. This place is awful. Buffet is not a wide variety of foods. The waitress we had took 20 minutes to take our order. I ordered a quesadilla and my mom and grandmother got sandwiches. It took OVER AN HOUR to get sandwiches. I believe this was the worst service I have ever experienced. The food was okay. So dont come here on s time limit because you will be here a while. The only good part about this place was the salad (because I fixed it myself) and the tea. But for the most part awful experience. Definitely will not be coming back for a while if ever. read more

We tried out The Grill a few weeks ago on sushi night. The girls and I were so excited about the possibility of a local sushi place (not having to drive to Mobile or Meridian!). The sushi was bad. Really, really bad. It was as if it had sat in the window and gotten soggy...it was like chewing gum. :( Bad food aside, the server was borderline rude and rarely checked on us. A very nice lady finally saw our entire table was unhappy and she refilled our drinks, etc. Thanks random lady who was not our server! Save your self time and Money, they cooked 30 wings for me, they were salty and over cooked in what appeared to be old grease, I called back and complained, they offered to cook me more which was fine, I offered to bring the remainder back which they didn't to let them see, however when I did they counted the wings and said they only owed me 13, petty they wanted the bit off chicken to they said which they never offered the remainder I did, when I got into a heated discussion about it they cook 4 more and added it to it, my husband walked in on Sabrina the supposed Cook manager telling customers about our conversation, What a great manager she has representing her business, my husband checked her on it, she had no clue who he was until he said you never know who you are talking in front of are about that's my wife you were on the phone with and she hollered what you wanted us to do y'all ate all the damn wings, in front of customers, wrong you served the salty overcooked wings and being petty about replacing them, moral of the story the manager the owner backed her in the situation Coralene, And nobody apologized for the wings instead they were salty as the wings that they did, and to get them to replace all of them was like pulling teeth, Do not order are think you getting a 5 star meal are customer service from these people, the service and attitudes needs adjusting. I had to rate this just to write a review but they will never get my hard earned money again petty people, petty business, service sucks, and food at this point every chance I get from people experience when I'm in town I'll share.
